Reviewer's comments
"I am a sucker for colorful lighting, but even I would be reluctant to call this an upgrade over the original level. Sometimes the light or fog is too strong and makes the visuals look very flat. However the lighting looks pretty cool sometimes, like in the fountain area where Lara swims for the first time, nice combination of light and fog there. Aside from the lighting changes it's about the same as in TR4, except without a mentor to talk to you or kill those pesky hogs for you (luckily Lara went to Costco and got a huge set of medpacks there). That means the gameplay is very light - only a couple of spikes put you in some semblance of danger, and there are some skulls to find, otherwise it's just going from one lever to the next. The texturing + architecture is pretty solid, although there's some texture warping on some walls. If nothing else, this might be worth a download if you are a level builder looking for new inspiration in your lighting. 10 minutes." - JesseG (10-Feb-2021)
"Drive that Jeep! Oops—sorry, Dude: wrong rip-off. This is one of the grandaddies of the various levels whose ‘builders’ took one of the original TRLE project files, made a few changes (or even none at all) and then claimed them as a work of their own. In this case it’s the angkor.PRJ. The Dude changed the values of a number of placed lights and cranked the intensity up to 11. The object tint of some static objects underwent the same treatment, while ambient lighting and fog colour weren’t harmed during the making of this level. He removed von Croy and the obstacles that you needed him to deal with, though the warthogs are still there. Finally, he replaced the texture of the inaccessible underwater passage at the first drawbridge with another one (intended to be used with one of the light statics) that looks like Lara should absolutely be able to pass through. Why? For the same reason that this level exists in the first place: no reason." - Mulf (15-Jan-2021)
"This is just the original Angkor Wat level from TR4 but some colors have been added to certain parts and a bunch of large medipacks near the beginning. Only difference is that there aren't cutscenes nor Von Croy." - alan (10-Feb-2018)
"Very few modifications in this copy of the original Angkor level. Simply the author opened the PRJ file and added many light bulbs with colors. The only interest here is to look for the golden skulls. Not a level to replay." - Jose (15-Nov-2017)
"This is simply an exact copy of the Angkor Wat level from TR4, with added psychedelia. The first two categories get nothing as it is not the authors, one point for sound because there was sound and 3 for the last category because it looked nice. But that's all. I don't think it's worth playing." - Ryan (14-Apr-2016)
"Just a remake of the first level of the fourth TR. Nothing new but the colourful lights and that there is no Werner." - Gonxii (20-Nov-2015)
"Well, somebody had fun with his colouring book. Basically, this is the old familiar Angkor Wat territory without Von Croy but with added hallucinogenic drug of your choice. OK, all a bit pointless really, but the colours are lovely." - Jay (11-Nov-2015)
"This is simply just the 'Angkor Wat' level file ripped from the main TR4 game, only with nonsensically done multi-coloured lighting effects(that at times hurt my eyes due to how strong the various colours were in-game), and no Von Croy around to show you the ropes(though I would consider that a blessing in disguise.) So in conclusion, this is just another release from the early years of custom levels that is probably best forgotten about entirely nowadays, due to how pointless and completely unnecessary it is, in the long term." - Ceamonks890 (26-Nov-2014)
"I definitely dislike the author forgot about nice music this level originally had and didn't reinsert it. The rest is simply fine, and I really like those colorful lights, placed here and there accordingly to the quite original idea. They make the whole level quite relaxing. Shame there's no Von Croy. SUMMARY: Quite short, quite good. If you wanna feel original TR4 climate but don't have time to play the whole game, give this level a try for it to bring you something different and relaxing placed in old, good scenery of Angkor." - DJ Full (07-Oct-2010)
"I suppose somebody had to do it,some time.Take an existing .prj and readjust some of the lights to make a few of the areas appear colourfully zany. Not a good idea if(as a builder) you want to score many points;not a bad idea, however,if (as a reviewer) you want to write a review while expending the least amount of effort." - Orbit Dream (07-May-2009)
"This is once more one of these levels, where one can grab himself to the head. Nevertheless, you still know the training level from TR4. Where Lara hops as Young Lara with von Croy in the area? Then you know everything what you must know, because it is precisely the same one. Only with the exception, which a few rooms in colours wrapped, which prepare for ocular pain. In this respect fits the title. And probably nobody knows, what the many Medipacks had to do here, coz nobody need them. Nevertheless, both poor wild boars are absolutely harmless If you have nothing, absolutely nothing, nothing to do, generally, you can risk a look and sacrifice 15 minutes of your precious lifetime." - Scottie (17-Apr-2009)
"A remake of the 1st level from TR4, without Von Croy and the audio files for the training. The other difference is that the author has implemented colourful light effects throughout the level ,effects which are sometimes exaggerated. Recommended only if you haven't played TR4." - eRIC (23-Jan-2009)
"This is the Young Lara/VonCroy in Angkor Wat level from the original game with some modifications. Lara finds three skulls, and does that rope swing to open the gigantic circular stones. The most striking difference is the strong primary coloured lights on the textures making it look like an exercise in colour. I've no idea how much work was actually done with this wad otherwise. It looks good though." - CC (12-Sep-2005)
"The really low rating is due to the fact that the author has just changed the lighting of the original 'Angkor Wat'-level - otherwise it's exactly the same level and I suppose most of us have played that level before. The new lighting is quite nice only because of the colours not because it in any way fits the level. All in all not worth downloading if you've played the original Angkor Wat-level. The new lighting just isn't worth it." - Magnus (29-Jan-2004)
"This is a copy of the original level with minor modifications. For example there is no Von Croy and some areas are changed past the waterfalls. Just ten minutes into it with levers to pull and the rope swinging. Five golden skulls found." - Kristina (05-Aug-2003)
"To be frank if I would like to play Young Lara in Angkor Wat I rather play the original. And it isn't even my favorite level so this didn't do it for me. Psychedelic yes fun no. 17-01-2003" - Gerty (18-Jan-2003)
"I'm not sure like if you do a remake can you import the level from somewhere and modify it or do you have to rebuild it from scratch. If the latter the adventure in hand seems to me a real waste of time. Reconstructing a level that wasn't that exciting in the first place just to add a few colourful lights is a bit pointless isn't it?! I mean I take your word for it that it is a faithful copy of the original game cause contrary to what Michael believes I haven't played it many many times. In fact I played it only once and as it hasn't made such a big impression on me - I can barely remember it." - Dimpfelmoser (13-Oct-2002)
"Let me describe it like this: Take an original TR-level put some different coloured lighting into it and that's it. The chosen colours almost burnt in my eyes in some places because of their intensity. Besides it's the training level of TR4 which isn't the most thrilling one so I didn't find it that exciting." - Sheevah (11-Aug-2002)
"All I can say about this level is remember back when you were a kid and you used to trace a comic book character? Well that's all that has been done here. This is an exact copy of the original Angkor Wat level and except for the change of a few colours and the departure of Von Croy has no artistic right to a score." - Torry (01-Aug-2002)
"I can not rate this level any higher in the first two scores as this is nothing more than the original Angkor Wat level relit so the recolourist as he did not create the environment I can not call him the creator does not deserve anything for them. I must admit that although the lighting is pleasant to look at by the name I expected more from the look of the level maybe some different slightly bizarre retexturing but there wasn't any apart from a mirror image ending that really wasn't necessary for game play." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"An exact copy of the original which we have all played many times but without VonCroy as a guide and with some colouring and lighting that has to be seen to be believed. Funky to look at boring to play." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This is nothing more than an edited version of the known Angkor Wat. There are many color lights in all the level. It is nicer than the original nothing less nothing more." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"From the name of this level I was expecting something wild and funky something fun to play. However it's just exactly the same as the original level with some different colored lighting. The original version was one of my least favorite levels so it just didn't do much for me. The colors were pretty though." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
