Reviewer's comments
"Mixed feelings towards this level. On the one hand, I thought level design was rather ingenious, but at the same time I felt there was too much backtracking involved and sometimes things felt too contrived. The atmosphere was absolute at some points (the lava cave, for instance, in areas not covered by the red fog) but I spent the first 10 or so minutes adjusting to the relative darkness. Enemy attacks usually come in waves which I thought was a nice touch, but for the most part it was down to platforming and exploring, which made the very good looking updated (and already 15 years old as I write this) Shotgun redundant. The outside area was also beautiful, but alas that was just for the finish trigger. Bottomline is, this is definitely a good level, but it could have been a great one. 40 minutes, 1 secret. 03/21" - Treeble (28-Mar-2021)
"This settomb-type level is very laborious, with many tasks to do and a lot of backtracking if you choose the wrong paths. Not real puzzles, but a lot of levers to pull, crawling and shimmying. The ambience is too dark and I found only a pack of flares. And what about the weapons? I was shooting all enemies only with the pistols. Sometimes there are helping cameras, but another times it was difficult to figure out where to go; example: how to know the fire near the pedestal with the cartouche turns out when you approach? Also there's an error in the design 'cause you can trigger the long blades in the stairs leading to the exit by walking slowly up the step from the very left side, missing that way a very big part of the gameplay. Anyway a good design and a solid level worth to play." - Jose (14-Jun-2017)
"This is a 45 minute long journey through a Tomb of Seth environment, primarily based on exploration, with very little thinking puzzles, as such. The lighting was dark, to be sure, but not irritatingly dark. There didn't seem to be many secrets (I only located one) and the enemies are the usual jackals, bats and scorpions, but it was definitely fun while it lasted. Definitely recommended." - Ryan (17-Nov-2016)
"Dark labyrinthine cave levels are not everyone's cup of tea,so this particular example may need to be approached with caution by some players. It's certainly true to say that I became thoroughly confused on several occasions, what with all the retracing of steps through somewhat similar environments - but, despite this, the builder has worked really hard with lighting and textures to create a convincing subterranean environment and accompanying atmosphere;and, more importantly, well devised back-and-forth gameplay, where acute observation is the key.Lava caves;timed flames;monkey- swings;cunning rolling boulders;switch puzzles and plenty of nasty dogs - you're continually occupied and(provided you're not a swizzy spoilsport, and cheat through the Blade Finale prematurely)you'll be entertained with this for at least an hour." - Orbit Dream (23-Aug-2012)
"This is a fairly challenging one-hour raid that deserves its high scores. The most visually appealing area for me was the deep lava cave. It's all typically Egyptian and you won't find anything new, but it's as good as many of the levels coming out these days. Dutchy and Gerty have provided their usual reliable walk. Recommended." - Phil (26-Dec-2011)
"Thoroughly enjoyable in every way. I loved the multi-levelled chambers, making really nice use of height making the tombs vertically high (rather than wide). Superb texturing and lighting, with transparent mists and cobwebs everywhere. The lava and red mist in the lower chambers is used very effectively Found one secret which comprised of some ammo and a shot-gun, but only found the shot-gun as a weapon pick-up. Completed the level in around an hour and 20 minutes due to backtracking more than once needlessly and getting lost once or twice. The only bug to note was that Lara's head often didn't seem to match the lighting over her surroundings (always dark). Positive 100% tomb raiding. Well worth the download, you wont be disappointed :)" - TheStig (17-Sep-2006)
"This is another wonderful cave/settomb type adventure setting, that you have here. So yet again I was in my element, as I started exploring all those dark and gloomy caves, for all those concealed treasures, like the Timeless Sand, Cartouche Piece, a Guardian Key and the Eye of Horus. I really enjoyed the game-play immensely, as I took up the search for all those hidden items, floor-switches and jump-switches as I crossed bridges over high waterfall lava areas, shimmering around high caves, timing jumps over fire blowers, avoiding being crushed by spiked balls, which tended to take me completely by surprise and eliminating all those wolves, which seemed to be just around the next corner, as you entered a new area of game-play. As you proceeded further and continued on with your tasks at hand and made your way through all those eerie and misty cobwebbed caves, your only other enemies you will encounter will be of scorpions and bats, which were fairly easy to eliminate. The whole layout of this adventure, was just amazing, yes its a bit dark, but thats to be expected for this type of cave environment setting, this to me just added the right kind of atmosphere for this adventure. Precise and spot on textures were chosen by this author, with the right kind of lighting applied and objects placed too, which gave you the appropriate atmosphere, which was needed for this type of environment and game-play. I enjoyed this level very much and was very sad to leave when I finally reached that amazing outside area, of sand dunes, pillars and palm trees." - Gill (18-Jun-2006)
"We are adventuring in dark caves sometimes among rivers of lava to find the Amulet of Horus. This we find quickly only the escape is puzzling. In the big Lava Room we are searching for two levers to pull; after that the blades will retract from the stairs which mean the end of the level. In the meantime we have to find the Cartouche and Piece items. The enemies are only jackals scorpions and bats. I found only one secret on the level and for the Uzi Revolver and Grenada Gun only ammunition. Though the locations are dark the textures are various but there are no custom sounds. Neither timed runs or hard puzzles. It was a good adventure I advice everybody to try it. You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version) savegames and pictures here: http://www.freeweb.hu/treditor/12/taken_in_the_trap.htm " - Obig (08-Dec-2004)
"Not sure why Lara is here as there is no storyline but one thing is certain it is for our pleasure to raid in well crafted 'Tomb of Seth' caves with lava waterfalls and cobwebs. The author is gifted to lead us in interesting progression in intricate and atmospheric small areas. There is also a big cave at the end with lava and fog where finding the eye of Horus is needed to exit the trapped exit. The gameplay in this part of the level is a little less exciting with long ladders to climb. The outside area at the end ruins in the sunset is really beautiful. Atmosphere and camera work are excellent. Highly recommended." - eRIC (27-Nov-2004)
"It's a little sad that nowadays when you see a level with a small download as in this case you automatically think it will be quite primitive and uninspiring and I have to admit to allowing these thoughts to creep into my head but it is such a wonderful surprise when these ideas are wiped away when you find yourself emerged in a really cool and intriguing level such as this. On the hunt for an Ankh Lara finds herself deep underground in a cave where a temple has been located this temple hasn't got what you would call a vast array of puzzling but what it lacks there it makes up for in fun exploring and some great sand effects. Unfortunately the player can finish this level early after about 25 minutes or so if you inch your way safely past some falling blades but you would miss the best part of the level a large lava cave as you go in search of the intended triggers to those falling blades. I also only found one secret the shotgun and like all the other reviewers left with ammo for four other weapons without finding the weapons so either they are for possible future levels we all missed the secrets the weapons were found in or the author is just playing with our minds. When the 45 minutes this takes to play is over you are going to wish there was just a little more to it but I was just happy I got what I got as it was a lot of fun." - Sash (23-Oct-2004)
"Your goal is to get out from this underground cave area and so you will. But it will take a bit of dying and very careful observation in the darkish settomb surroundings which makes this a fun level to play if you like exploring for the next crucial thing to do. I liked how the various puzzle areas were set up and interacted like the open/close doors lever sneakily hidden chains and jump switches the clever usage of sand and the camera work that goes with it. You get to find a cartouche timeless sands guardian key and of course the Ankh - your prize. Sadly you can end the level rather prematurely by tricking the Seth Blades and making it to the outside after a little under 30 minutes. But really you would miss an extra 15-20 minutes of gameplay for the Eye of Horus pieces that you would not want to miss as the lava cave is really awesome. Found the nice shotgun secret and enemies are a bit of a non-event (scorpions bats dogs) although the first attack by four dogs was well set. Particularly if you enjoy a Settomb environment this is a level for you - try it." - Michael (18-Aug-2004)
"I was amazed what still can be done with the 'normal' TOM files. I'm still not bored with Egyptian levels and this is a great little gem. Could have used a bit more flares as those red stone walls are rather dark. Lara is in search for The Ankh and then has to find her way out of this cave. There is some jumping and shimmying to do and do look around corners as there are some chains hidden that you need to pull. When you come in the large lava cave you get a nice camera of that huge cave beautiful. Not much enemies scorpions and dogs and they never travel alone. Getting a Cartouche the Timeless Sands and a Guardian key and last but not least the two pieces of The Eye. There are some long long climbs and I thought that the way the author used that room with that big pile of sand was just a great idea. You can leave without the eye but you'll miss quite a nice trip in search of them. Got one secret lots of ammo and the shotgun.24-06-2004" - Gerty (18-Jul-2004)
"This is brilliant gem of a level Maxime has offered us here. This time she has chosen the Seth's tomb environment and it is very gratifying if done well and it certainly is here! Though the level is quite dark it improves as you go on and I just loved to gawk at the little pleasant details the author has put in - cobwebs mist - if you jump through the lava fall - Lara burns - excellent eye candy! Oh and while talking of eye candy lets not forget the extremely beautiful ending outside by the ruins - I thought I'd melt there! And it does pretty well on gameplay too - though nothing new or overly demanding I had immense fun playing this through the 45 minutes it lasted and really can't complain about anything in the level. There was one great secret which had the shotgun and that made me wonder what all the other ammo was for... maybe that hints that there will be a sequel? I certainly hope so - raiding through the sunset dunes would be immense fun I think!" - eTux (15-Jul-2004)
"I liked this level very much. Although it had nothing innovative the setting was well built and I had fun playing it. With greenery around and scorpions as enemies we have to find a cartouche piece a guardian key and the Eye of Horus to be able to finish the level. Be careful of your surroundings because it's possible to miss something like I did near the end and not be able to proceed. The use of the sand filling puzzle and the Timeless Sands item is what you'll also find as well as a big lava area with bridges all around. I found a few textures that were stretched near the blades area and it's possible to pass through the blades without deactivating them or get the Eye of Horus since that's the item that leads to the lever for the blades. Those two bugs though didn't spoil the level and I was really surprised to see what one can do with an original wad. I hope we will see more of the author's work in the future." - Kristina (28-Jun-2004)
"This is very much a settomb environment which means it's rather dark. It's also absolutely riddled with jackals. Apart from them you get bats and scorpions. The basic idea is to find the two halves of the eye of Horus and escape from the caves and that does take a bit of doing. There are no really difficult manoeuvres to achieve it's more a question of keeping your eyes open and finding your route. When you finally find the eye of Horus you can deactivate some blades and make your way to freedom with a last minute jackal and scorpions to wave goodbye to you. I should like to have had more time in the impressive looking outside area. I found one secret the shotgun and although I found ammo for the uzi revolver crossbow and grenadegun I never found the relative weapons so I'm not sure what that was all about but I certainly enjoyed this level." - Jay (28-Jun-2004)
"This settomb style level is simply excellent most of adventure in caves and few rooms with nice Textures. The Objects and crowbar are hidden very well. Dogs and Red Scorpion enemies the end of the level looks cool. I really liked that. I can only say well done." - Yoav (28-Jun-2004)
