Reviewer's comments
"I suppose on an educational level (and for people who understand the language) this might have been a fun romp, but as it stands you just run around collecting a couple of items while looking at pretty paintings plastered onto the walls. Fast forward 20 years into the future and nowadays we have games like Assassin's Creed offering virtual tours through the settings the games are based on. Not sure how much better that concept could have been applied to TR, especially under limitations of the TRLE, but this level might be a good indication. The scrolls reveal passwords for some reward pdfs, so I'll stick to my guns and say this was presented as some sort of school project or another. 10 minutes. 04/21" - Treeble (04-Apr-2021)
"Really a big effort with the outfit, the objects and the texturization, but this series of very small levels don't offer an entertaining gameplay, but only admire the environments without traps or enemies. Got the codes to unlock the documents, but you'll need to translate them if you don't know German language. Nothing funny here." - Jose (29-Jan-2018)
"There is really almost nothing going on in this level, but it's such a cute offering that I can forgive the builder this time. Lots of nice paintings and photographs to look at and the feeling of being in a museum is rather strong. Despite of heavily wallpapered texturing and bland lighting at times the looks are okay, standard "museum" objects are decently used and the "secret" task is good too. The sole point in gameplay goes to the starting sequence which was very nicely done, otherwise there's really not much to write home about. 8 minutes." - manarch2 (23-Oct-2016)
"A bit of an oddity, this one and thus hard to rate. The download seemed a bit out of proportion for 10 (!) minutes of gameplay, but I am guessing that's due to the added PDF documents and sounds. Gameplay is nonexistent as you simply pick up a few scrolls and use a few buttons. The photographs of different places and temples were an original touch but there's not much else. A good idea, badly executed. So much more could have been done." - Ryan (02-Oct-2016)
"This is more of a showcase of places Lara has been rather than a playable level. The aim here is to admire as much of the scenery as you can before the time is up. You get to visit places such as Rome, Greece, Norway, India, and more. The lighting is fairly flat throughout, but texturing is fairly well done, I guess it has to be as there's so many different places to visit. I enjoyed the large pictures in some of the areas such as Zeus or the parthenon. The last area of Rome didn't really feel like a museum as it was outdoors. I've awarded 1 point for gameplay since you can pick up scrolls and push buttons to move between areas. The receptionist was quite a large guy compared to Lara! Sound changed with each area giving it a slightly different feel. The best bit in my opinion was the title flyby of the town, very impressive, and perhaps waste as I would have liked to have taken a walk around there. 15 minutes to complete." - sonnyd83 (09-Dec-2012)
"I still have the numbers written down on a sheet of paper. After picking up "Sofies Welt" item, I thought mash gave me this book to read, and I felt a bit disappointed after it appeared the .pdfs are screens only - but anyway the idea of a reward is great. We need more unusual secrets like this. Unfortunately, apart from finding the secret passwords and key, the gameplay practically doesn't exist, comprising of proceeding from one room to another. Anyway, lots of pretty things attracted my attention, not letting me become bored, and the final feeling when I realized what the writing on the wall is... was pure joy. Joy, not fun - I don't know, why it happened, but mash has created it inside me. Shame he didn't make any puzzles nor finished the lighting. But the custom texturing is sometimes really good, improving the atmosphere much, and the objects are great: pillars, plants, chains, statues, inventory items - everything matches everything. Cameras are pretty, but useless, as there is nothing important to indicate in this level. SUMMARY: Such a paradox! Nearly nothing to do - and still, very good gameplay. Nice little try, with a surprisingly original secret. Then, recommended more than all other average levels I recommended till today." - DJ Full (22-Nov-2010)
"An unusual idea for a level and it was actually funny. The gameplay, puzzles objects etc are not really present here, hence the low ratings. The sound and atmosphere is great though. I get the feeling that I walk in a museum, looking at some paintings proceed to an outside area and back in again. Just like I have done before on real museums LOL. A short visit just like in this game. The textures are sometimes good sometimes not. The outside area is borrowed from the coastal level so that doesn't really count :) If you have a fast internet connection and want 10 min of fun indeed download this 40 meg file. If not, you might get disappointed." - QRS (11-Dec-2005)
"Hmm that's not right! I just spent almost three hours downloading this level only to finish after 13 minutes. Did I miss something have I overlooked something I may just have to call the phone numbers that are included in the readme to find out. There is I have to admit a kind of beauty to the way this virtual museum is brought to you with the settings culminating in a small town in Greece that is in itself another part of the museum but all that happened in this series of very very short levels is the collection of 4 scrolls that had no purpose and a couple of tokens that you do use the second quite a cute idea but didn't seem to have any relevance. As it plays though I cannot in good conscience recommend this as it is too great a size for too little a payback." - Sash (23-Oct-2004)
"I don't know what this level (is it really a level?) was built for. Lara walks around in some rooms with many pictures and nothing to do other than collect a few music scrolls. The download is big the fun is very small. I think levels like this are not needed not to play and not to build." - Xxenofex (12-Oct-2004)
"Some levels try too hard to be bizarre and wacky and end up merely looking silly. This one tries hard to be educational and ends up instead looking bizarre and wacky. I have absolutely no idea whatsoever what it was all about but it was very pleasingly surreal and fun. Far too big a download though." - Orbit Dream (15-Sep-2004)
"As Mark explains in his readme this is a virtual tour through a Museum. No shooting no puzzles no nothing. Get the coin to enter the museum and get 4 scrolls. You go through different areas where you see pictures of the Greek mythology Asgard and Walhalla and the World wonders. Back in the museum write down the codes and with these codes you can see some screenshots from the level. That is it. 27-07-2004" - Gerty (15-Aug-2004)
"This is a fascinating oddity. It really is a tour round a museum with some fabulous artwork and positively surreal surroundings and apart from picking up scrolls and coins there isn't anything to do but relax and enjoy the sights. No enemies no puzzles and it's based on young Lara (although I think it's supposed to be Sophia) so no guns either. From the number of TR4 files that came with the download I thought it was going to be a really long level but each section was so tiny it was a whistle stop tour. I thought it had oodles of potential and it's just a shame that more wasn't made of it." - Jay (14-Aug-2004)
"The title more or less gives it away. This is not an ordinary level. It is rather a walk through a picture gallery followed by a 'reconstruction' of Walhalla and a tour through a ('reconstructed') part of Athens and at last some Egyptian edifices are displayed. In some cases one could feel that there should have been different categories for reviewing different kinds of levels. However this level wouldn't deserve a very high score even if there were an appropriate category for it. It is simply awkward and boring. At the end the player gets a 'small reward'. Having read a few of reviews before playing my expectations were very low. Still I was disappointed. Even this level has a few highlights though. The reception desk is rather exceptional the pictures are quite detailed there is a hefty snow storm for Lara to pass and an original binocular stand. One could probably make interesting educational levels but I'm afraid this is neither interesting nor educational. It seems to be a half finished work without a clear purpose." - Bogey (08-Aug-2004)
"Tricky one to rate. Even if you take your time to look around it will not take you much longer than 15 minutes to get through collecting four scrolls and two coins. And I am not sure the educational effect really comes through. Yes there is Sofie instead of Lara the receptionist is funny and I liked the Snowstorm effect and some of the photorealistic textures. Unfortunately the latter I guess are the reason why this set comes with many TR4 files thus causing the download to be hugely out of proportion compared to the experience you get. Only recommended for Broadband people. And what's with the reward pdfs? Guess I would at least have expected something more original than what you get. A good idea gone rather bad...sorry." - Michael (02-Aug-2004)
"The title flyby scans a large town and you hear the bells from the Rome level in the background and see a figure standing on one of the streets. It's not Lara in fact I don't even know if it's male or female. But whoever it is they visit the museum. As with Lara's Home in Paris Mash really should put the word demo after the title because both of the levels need more work done to them. However this museum is a great place a museum of Ancient History because we visit Mount Olympus and then through changes of levels visit the sites of the Ancient Wonders of the World. In four areas we pick up scrolls and in two we pick up coins. I thought it a good idea that one of the coins is used in one of those binocular stands so you can see the view. Some of the areas are really very beautiful like the water area at the base of the Pharos Lighthouse. A great little level but as there are no enemies (unless you jump over a barricade and get to grips with a warthog) and no puzzles or jumps the enormous download doesn't justify getting the level. Someone please give mash some pointers on how to reduce the size of downloads. Just on a personal note: the main character is most peculiar almost comical looks like a Pokemon character but then again perhaps a lot of people will love him/her. Keep going mash you obviously have loads of ideas coming through. And mash dear you could make our lives a little easier also by putting English descriptions in the download i.e. write down what the names and signs mean. A lot of people speak German on this forum but I'm guessing the vast majority speak or understand English." - CC (01-Aug-2004)
"I'm sorry but this level is absolutely terrible. I can't believe the download is 42 MB for ten minutes of gameplay in a very bad setting. First of all the entire files readme etc. were in German so there's no way for the rest of us that don't speak the language to read what this was all about. Fortunately the author included mp3 files which are a plus. Then the levels titles are Athen Olymp which were awful and had nothing to do not only with Greece but with a decent level in general. Then the other levels had the names of Monika Pawlus' Walhalla and Asgard ones which I am not sure is appropriate. I am sorry to be so cruel but this game deserves it. Now the good things are a few pictures on the walls that depict Greek Ancient Gods and other mythological creatures from foreign countries. The goal is to find a few tokens and four scrolls which will give you access to four pdf files that have pictures from the levels you just visited therefore I don't really see what's the point in playing the level. There is a fifth door that looks like it needs another scroll but there isn't one to be found or at least I didn't find it. Lara if that was Lara has ugly blonde hair but the outfit is nice. The only thing I liked in this level was the way the binoculars were used a nice touch. I wonder where the city is that we see in the flyby. I hope we won't get to see another level like this one which is not only huge with no reason but also uninteresting and with such many problems as far as the setting is concerned." - Kristina (30-Jul-2004)
"Young Lara in five levels. They were very short - took me 25 minutes to finish without any puzzles to solve the only things to do is pick up token key and four music scrolls. They are not even hidden - all of them on the way. Sounds boring indeed - sorry for that - well after all the textures look nice with some great paintings on walls and scenery wallpaper." - Yoav (30-Jul-2004)
