Reviewer's comments
"This hotel was recommended to me by Tripadvisor and I have to say that I was really disappointed. Here's why. 1. Yes, I did have a clear view on the Bronx but that was about it. 2. There were no towels but on second thought there was no bathroom either so indeed why should they provide towels. Ok, strike that remark. 3. Had to sleep on the bare floor so I had massive neck strains in the morning. With all those tall buildings it was hard for me as a tourist to enjoy looking up to those. 4. I had to climb out of the window and shout for help to get down as there were no doors. No need to say I was glad to fly back to Belgium after all of this." - bERT (30-Sep-2022)
"Nothing more than a joke. It gets a 1 in textures from me for at least having textures at all." - Lorax (01-Feb-2022)
"The one joke that never gets old, am I right? 1 minute. 10/21" - Treeble (01-Nov-2021)
"I would have prefered Lara in Brooklyn. Brooklyn is bigger and more populated." - eRIC (16-Jun-2021)
"I cannot express how I adore this level. It is a masterpiece that not everyone would find easy to create such a level like this. I give it a 10/10" - Kubsy (30-Mar-2021)
"REALLY? Good grief what a pointless level that is imitating another pointless level. I'm a dodo bird for even downloading this. It's punishment in and of itself. Tom Foolery indeed!" - Chel (03-Feb-2020)
"Ah ah ah, that was funny! A great sequel to the greatest level of all time ... Wolfy Regards." - Wolf7 (27-Jan-2019)
"Rubbish. Do not even bother downloading this." - Torry (21-Sep-2018)
"The pun Was flattering, otherwise this is Just a continuation of the original meme, the Bronx JPG is an improvement that made this level become HoF material... or not, oh Well I chuckled I guess. :o/" - SeniorBlitz (02-Aug-2018)
"There are just too many puzzles. Some of the traps are hard to get through and alot of the enemies take way too many hits. Sarcastic Comments aside. This is just an empty room. I guess it deserves a little credit for the View but that's about it." - JoeTheCrazyGamer (11-Sep-2016)
"Absolute tosh." - Ryan (09-Jan-2016)
"Have you ever had one of those snickers that you immediately regret afterwards? I get those frequently with bad puns. It was creative enough to get me to snicker momentarily, so I'll hand it a point in gameplay. Not worth much more than the title though." - Xela (29-Jan-2015)
"Essentially Lara in a Box 2, with the only difference being that there's a window to see the outside world(which is apparently close to a city.) That is all you really need to know." - Ceamonks890 (08-Dec-2014)
"Useless not reccomended." - janachorider (06-Mar-2014)
"Well... it's just the same boring (but famous) box from lara in a box but with a window which shows a city. Still pretty boring but it's a joke." - afzalmiah (19-Apr-2011)
"Nearly wanted to give a point for textures, I'm glad I didn't." - manarch2 (04-Dec-2010)
"Lara is stuck in a box again, but this time there is a window with a view of Manhattan. Nothing else. That's it." - Blue43 (18-Oct-2010)
"The second part of a breakthrough series, incomparable to anything else before. I think Tom Foolery means the same for levelbuilding what Philip Glass means for music - he's the leader minimalist. (Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is stripped down to its most fundamental features. It is rooted in the reductive aspects of Modernism, and is often interpreted as a reaction against Abstract expressionism and a bridge to Postmodern art practices. SOURCE: WIKIPEDIA) One point for atmosphere - who doesn't enjoy being in New York? One for textures as well - really, I've seen worse, believe me. And, if we treat every building outside the window like a separate object, how many points for them should this level get, let me count... OK, OK, I'm sorry, it's Tom's joke, not mine! SUMMARY: A classic that doesn't need any kind of presentation. Known to any trle visitor, more famous than Lara Croft herself, "Lara in the Bronx" will stay forever in our hearts." - DJ Full (05-Oct-2010)
"One takes Lara in the box, make a window purely with a photo of New York and already one has Lara in the Bronx. Really epic! This is the cracker of the year. No other level gives so much variety. There are no stretched textures and no paper-thin walls. Well, the lighting is not thus the true one, it could have been better. There are no heavy jumps, no heavy riddles and above all there are no opponents. A right relief which one must not shoot wildly around himself. Allowedly, the playing time is a little bit short, but one cannot have, finally, everything. It is a pity, that there are not more levels of Tom Foolery. His next level would have had certainly two windows. Would this have not been brilliant? Oh man, I notes only now, what nonsense I have written. Because I have run out of time, I make it short: Brain-cracked level, by no means play!" - Scottie (09-Jun-2009)
"Level was very interesting. I must mark you for the textures that you used though." - herothing (09-Apr-2009)
"Don't." - Orbit Dream (11-May-2008)
"At least it was textured" - Cory (15-Oct-2007)
"'Lara in the Bronx' by the same person who brought us 'Lara in a box'? I think so. If there was a category for "balls" I would give this person a '10' because, considering the reception 'Lara in a box' got, this release was very brave of him/her! At least in this version Lara has a window to look out of..." - Kitkat (23-Jul-2007)
"It's like 'Lara in a box'...but in the Bronx! Not funny, not any good, and not worth the download." - Spike (01-Jul-2007)
"A direct copy of the room from Lara in a Box with a box window view of New York City added. Well this adds a new dimension to that tried and true classic. On point for the view, one point for the parody of LIAB - that shows a sense of homour." - EssGee (24-Mar-2007)
"When looking back now, I find it kind of funny how serious my comments for some of the earlier joke levels, like the Titanic, and the undeniable inspiration for this little 'gem' here - Lara in a Box seemed to come across. "Not funny!", "Pity there's no negative ratings!" yadda, yadda, yadda. While I have a hard time recalling how seriously indeed did I take those levels back then, now I've embraced them for what they are - an opportunity for a free review! Plus a smile on your face if the punchline is good. The former applies to this little level, but I can't say I smiled at anything other than the thought that the joke's on the creator of this little 1 or 2 room level. Seriously - I know most of these joke levels are out there merely to represent an idea, but the author even stole that from another joke level! How desperate and imagination-deprived must one be to reach a new low like that one? I guess you could call it a variation of a theme, but as much as I don't mind joke levels - I'd at least appreciate if the authors took the effort to make me laugh. Now that came across a bit bitter, definitely following the pattern of my serious-sounding joke level reviews, as mentioned at the start of this review, but I really don't have anything to complain about - why should I when everything I need to evaluate the level's qualities for a legitimate review is to start it up and then quit again after 10 seconds? Assuming you have read it this far (based on another assumption that the longer reviews might be neglected by the reader) - I can only recommend to give this one a miss if you're looking for something to play, but definitely look it up if you need that free review to be closer to your next reviewer award or any personal goal you might achieve by playing this level." - eTux (18-Mar-2007)
"Lara in a Box with a window. It's an old idea, but for some reason, level builders seem to think they've thought of something new and unique when they make levels like this one. Pointless joke levels rank right up there with old 'knock knock' jokes and According to Jim. They weren't funny to begin with, and this is just beating a dead horse. But the joke's on the level builders, really, since no one gets fooled, no one finds them the least bit clever, and everyone gets a free review. I do love just being able to start up a level, quit the game, and write a review. It's like taking candy from a baby. Far more interesting than the level itself is the name of the author - obviously a play on the word 'tomfoolery', which means, "something trivial or foolish; nonsense". I couldn't agree more, Mr Foolery. I couldn't agree more." - Magnus (06-Sep-2006)
"There is nothing in this level, sorry in this room I mean, to do at all. Lara can only see a city (part of a wallpaper actually) through a window and I didn't find this funny at all. Don't bother." - Kristina (15-Mar-2006)
"Ooh Lara in a b(r)o(n)x sounds funny, just load the game only a room with nowhere to go so i decided to bin this joke in the thrash Review. Yay I m getting closer to Silver Award by reviewing this level" - Anurag (02-Feb-2006)
"I agree with all the other reviewers. . . . . . . . . .OK, so I wanted to boost my review count a little." - Staticon (24-Dec-2005)
"This level reminds me of 'Lara in a Box'. Like 'Lara in a Box' (created by Gotcha), the author has a name (Tom Foolery) that clearly shows that this level is a joke, the title (Lara in the Bronx) resembles the title 'Lara in a box' to a certain extent and Lara is in a box-like room. However, there is a window that shows the outside world. So unlike 'Lara in a Box', Lara isn't completely isolated. I wonder why the author chose the Bronx as the setting of his level (did he want to compare Lara Croft to Jennifer Lopez, who apparently lived in the Bronx during her childhood?). The skyscrapers clearly contrast with the blandness of the box-like room." - Sakusha (13-Nov-2005)
"A room with a view is all you get. Maybe the picture of the cityscape you see through the window was taken from the author's actual window or maybe I'm just overthinking it as the author sure didn't overthink this." - Sash (01-Nov-2005)
"Don't bother to download this one! One score only for the horizon you see when looking out of this single room adventure. No storyline... so here is mine... as it reminded me of this:
''Once upon a time there was a lovely princess but she had an enchantment upon her of a fearful sort which could only be broken by love's first kiss she was locked away in a castle guarded by a terrible fire breathing dragon. Many brave knights had attempted to free her from this dreadful prison but none prevailed. She waited in the dragon's keep in the highest room of the tallest tower for her true love and her true love's first kiss... but at least she had a nice view out of the window.... ROTFLOL." - Tinka (28-Oct-2005)
"When I compiled the level and saw that there were only two rooms, I thought it couldn't be a good thing. When I install the level and play, I realize my suspicions are correct: only a room with a window to see a small photo of New York! There is no need for comments." - Jose (25-Oct-2005)
"......." - QRS (25-Oct-2005)
"My oh my, why did I even bother loading up this one??? Because I was bored and curious about the level's bad reviews. Well, it certainly only added to my boredom and the only thing I learnt was that the poor reviews were well deserved. Lara is stuck inside a square room, no doors, no windows(except for a small, glued-on window with a poster-like view over what is presumed to be the Bronx) and no way out. This is meant to be a joke level, but there was certainly nothing funny about it. A tip for the builder: add a doorway or some other means of leaving that friggin' room and then add some 20 rooms more and you're well on your way. Keep trying!" - Selene (24-Oct-2005)
"Three little words - do not bother." - Jay (18-Oct-2005)
"Lara standing in a room with nothing in it, just a window she can look out from - and that's it...:-( Not sure why this level got added to the listing, a mystery to me..." - Engelchen Lara (16-Oct-2005)
"A room with a view, of the New York skyline. Let me see, what else . . . nothing. The author's name was a dead giveaway for this tom foolery. The interesting thing now is, will there be lots of reviews, as there was for another short and annoying level way way back in time." - CC (15-Oct-2005)
"I thought this might be a honest-to-god joke level with some humor in it. I was wrong." - Duncan (15-Oct-2005)
"One room with catacomb textures and without objects. Through the window without glass you can see (probably) picture of the city Bronx. Textures doesn't fit with outside area, room is empty and pointless. There also isn't readme file to get some point. Atmosphere isn't funny, it's kind a hollow. Keep on building." - Oxy (14-Oct-2005)
"This even I can make." - Gerty (13-Oct-2005)
"Memories of the all-time-classic 'Lara in a Box'. This is much the same with the single addition of a nice view of the skyline. Funny? Not much, I think, but I had to smile anyway." - MichaelP (13-Oct-2005)
