Reviewer's comments
"I liked that the rollingballs go back and forth sideways as they’re trundling down towards you, and as soon as I got the joke, I asked myself whether it might be possible to survive the trap. However, like eTux, I did not consider it worthwhile to actually repeat the experiment myself and take MichaelP et al. at their word when they say that the title in fact greatly exaggerates the fatality of the trap it advertises. This being the case, it could make for an interesting task in an actual game. As it is, though, it’s pointless, and for this reason may serve merely as a focal point for existential musings or other extraneous purposes. But it’s certainly better than the builder’s debut, not least because of its brevity." - Mulf (09-Jul-2021)
"Dodge some traps, thats about it 3/40" - JoeTheCrazyGamer (17-Apr-2020)
"Pointless level. Even though I managed to avoid the boulders and get to the top of the ramp on my third try there was nothing up there and no finish trigger so it left me wondering, why?" - Torry (28-Oct-2019)
"You can avoid the boulders (it is possible, after many tries). But then you walk up a ramp to find that you can't properly end the thing. Ah, well. One point for the idea, but there's not much going on." - Ryan (08-Nov-2016)
"I woke up in the middle of the night, chased down the slope of memories. Waves of awareness echoed in my head, one by one piercing its tubes with spikes of nostalgia... A burning basic wonder how one joke level can do that much, especially if played either right after Rene's Sanctuaries or Richard's Plain, so its pain should hurt even more. So I revisited it for answer, trying a dozen times to reach the top, but there was still nothing up there except death. It's in fact the most real-life level ever created. It hits the essence. Recalls the past, clarifies the presence and forsees the future. We got here by accident. We struggle to survive, wondering about the point. We find none, so maybe indeed it's about making and nothing else counts. But it doesn't even matter if we make something or nothing at all - for one day we die anyway. Could I really call it a joke? Not at all. SUMMARY: An absolutely must-play revision of everything, not providing an explanation but still making You think. And seriously, wherever this builder is, I truly miss him." - DJ Full (26-Apr-2015)
"All you're attempting to do here is trying to survive the massive onslaught of spiky boulders thrown in your general direction(in the hopes that you'll eventually reach the end unscathed), only to discover that there isn't a finish trigger in sight(after the countless amounts of retries that it took to get this far). So in conclusion, while slightly better than the builder's initial debut, I still wouldn't recommend this to anyone but those who are truly bored out of their minds, as there isn't really much point to this release otherwise." - Ceamonks890 (30-Nov-2014)
"Yay, I have made it to the other side of the room! That's pretty much the only thing to say, there is no end trigger. I think I have failed the sense of the level - to not survive... To compare it with the first level of the builder, texturing was a bit better now. The avoiding of the boulders was quite interesting. A really high rating for a one-room level, I think, but it gave me few minutes of fun." - manarch2 (22-Feb-2011)
"One can make in this level a lot. One can avoid several Spikeballs, hear an earthquake sound, see the screen wobbling, run upwards, run again downwards, run again upwards, run again... Oh, sorry, I had pressed there probably by mistake the repeat key. In any case. One can do here a lot. Or also not. Since the inclined player is not able to do one here. Namely to have his fun." - Scottie (21-Mar-2010)
"I have no problem believing that with a few fancy moves you can actually survive this Tomb Raider style execution, so I gave the solely point for this (most likely unintended) quirk, but I neither had the patience nor will to try if it worked myself, so I'll take it on faith alone that others have done it. Nothing else to say, though, reading the reviews for this level is probably more exciting than playing it - that should give you the best idea of the overall experience here." - eTux (30-Oct-2007)
"Another jokey 'no way out' level. Mildly amusing, for the 3 seconds it lasts." - Orbit Dream (18-Oct-2007)
"Boulders roll down hill and lara dies. That is all that is in the level. How can you do a detai;ed review of some boulders that roll down a hill and kill lara? Well at the beggining two of the boulders do not move because they haven't been triggered yet and they seem to roll side to side before rolling down the hill on the way to kill lara. Lara can either stand there to await her fate which will make her last longer than if you just try to run up the hill to welcome her death. So lara dies, it really is as simple as that." - Cory (15-Oct-2007)
"Well, this is basically a bunch of rollingballs coming to squash Lara into a pancake. Luckily, however, it's possible to avoid the boulders and then...either burn to death or stay at the top of the slope for all eternity. Although, in my opinion, the best option is to quit and play something else instead." - Spike (20-Jul-2007)
"Joke, what joke? Got as far as avoiding the rolling balls and then what....? Nah, this is the pits." - Gerty (09-Jul-2007)
"I remember an old programme where they had kids describe something, and then the contestants had to guess what they were describing. The only reason I remember this, admittedly quite forgettable programme, is because my brother had a chance to be one of those lucky kids when he was little, but he chickened out. We still taped the episode he would have been on, though, since my brother's best friend wasn't as much of a coward as he was. Anyway, my point is that if those kids had been asked to describe this level, they might have said something along the lines of,"kind of like The Many Deaths of Lara, but not as much". Because the whole point of that level was to kill Lara in as many ways as possible, but here she's killed by the boulders within seconds (or, if you're a better player than I am, you might make it up to the flames at the top of the slope). We all like killing Lara every now and then, but this level isn't the best one for that purpose. The name gave me a chuckle, though." - Magnus (15-Oct-2006)
"I'm not even sure if this can be considered a joke level, it certainly felt more like one of those one-room test levels. Anyway, you're on the bottom of a slope and four boulders are running down toward you. If you stand still, it'll take around 5 seconds until you face the inevitable. BUT, you CAN dodge them by using the side slopes, and guess what you'll find running up the slope? A closed gate on a wall (pointless, I'll add) and a burning floor. Not quite creative, but fun for trying. It takes less than 3 minutes to master the jump over the boulders, and that's still half the time the download might take... 10/06" - Treeble (08-Oct-2006)
"It's a nice trap, and it's no hard to avoid the rolling balls jumping left and right over the slopes. The burning tile up the ramp is another surprise. But is this all? What a level so poor!" - Jose (26-Jun-2006)
"With a little bit of patience and skill you can get passed the rolling balls but then there is nothing else to do so the whole level is just a big disappointment. Not to mention that because Lara can actually survive 'the fatal trap' the title is all wrong. Don't bother." - Kristina (12-May-2006)
"I don't read any reviews for a level until I've written mine to avoid being inadvertently influenced, but you know, just this once I really wish I had because I probably would have opted out. As a reviewer, I generally feel obliged to try and play all new levels - the good, the bad and the ugly - and occasionally a joke level comes along that is actually a. amusing and b. worth the download. This is not one of them." - Jay (24-Apr-2006)
"I didn't quite get this level, as it isn't a fatal death trap, with the right monovering, and the right timing, you can get through this is practically no harm what-soever, but then theres nothing else to do, where is that fatal death trap i was waiting for?" - ColeMoles (22-Mar-2006)
"No offense, but get a life...what junk." - TombRaiderFan (21-Mar-2006)
"In many languages, one commonly accepted grammatical rule states that two words with a similar meaning put in the same sentence is a redundancy, unless it's a stylistic choice to reinforce an idea - in which case it becomes a pleonasm. In this level's case, "Fatal" and "Death" seems to pertain to the former insofar as there's no need to insist on the lethal factor which can be easily skipped. "The Endless Death Trap" would have been a better literary choice - in my humble opinion - as there is no way here to put an end to Lara's predicament. A feature that we unfortunately encounter in many of the so-called "joke" levels. Speaking of which, I wonder whether this concept is a good choice for that category as most of the time there's hardly any humor involved unless one considers waiting in a line for hours with nothing to do or staring at an empty wall as being funny. This said and in all honesty, the "joke" levels have a great advantage for us reviewers. They allow us to boost our reviews count with little effort or time cost and are usually no-brainers. We also can write totally boring and pointless reviews and spend some time saying anything that comes to mind without worrying about relevance, as nobody will read them anyway. And I must say that any reviewer should experience a joke level at least once, just for the sake of it. See it as an initiation ritual of sort. Now to the point: there are boulders, a ceiling, a floor and walls, all textured. You have now reached this review finish trigger. Thanks for reading." - Sutekh (20-Mar-2006)
"Sorry to say, but this level is not worth the download (unless you like Lara facing 6 rolling balls at the very beginning...). The other reviewers have already mentioned enough hence I think there's nothing more to add. ;) " - Tinka (19-Mar-2006)
"As usual with joke levels I'm not amused. In fact I don't see the point in releasing a level where there's nothing else to do but to patiently try to see if you can find a way past the six spiked boulders crashing down on Lara as soon as the level begins. As for the rest of it there is none. A ramp in a closed room and nothing else to do. Not funny at all." - Selene (17-Mar-2006)
"The trap in this 30 second level was neither fatal nor death inducing, in fact my Lara somehow managed to fluke through the first time round and not even a reload was necessary. Was this possibility intended by the author? I'm not sure but as there is no finish trigger maybe we were never meant to make it through. Anyhow the trap that is at the heart of this blink and it's over level is a sloped tunnel with a bunch of boulders rolling down at you all at once and out of sync so that they are scattered when they meet you, there are though slanted sides in this tunnel so that if you judge it just right you can execute a couple of jumps and get past. If there is a positive here it is that at least for a 'joke level' there is actually a degree of anticipation and a modicum of thrill when you match wits against the boulders. Saying that, it took me around 20 minutes to download for mere seconds of play, you weigh it up!" - Sash (17-Mar-2006)
"Well, I will be little more generous with my scores, simply because (maybe unintended by the author?) you can actually do something here, because it is possible to avoid and survive the rolling balls, but of course only to then either starve to death or burn to death at the top of the slope. So, play only if you want to test your patience to get the timing right for the jump to avoid the first trap - nothing else to do here..." - MichaelP (16-Mar-2006)
