Reviewer's comments
"So that's why the previous level ended so abruptly; it continued on this one. The messed up sounds are still present, but there's also a big problem here which is those butts you will find everywhere. Some of them work as poles, but I guess others were enemies that failed to be triggered or something. At first I missed the key, so I had to DOZY all the way back to the beginning, but I don't think it was useful for anything. I also didn't like that in order to open a door, you had to look for an unmarked trigger, which I wouldn't have known of if I hadn't read the walkthrough. Also, I think at some point I managed to see Lara with two heads?! But oh well, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at this point XD. All in all, I think these 2 levels were more like troll levels to get a laugh at the silly sounds and nothing else." - alan (23-Oct-2022)
"As before, the pity point goes to T&L because there’s lighting. Really, everything you say about one of the builder’s two levels also goes for the other, except this second one has even more bugs (it’s full of butts), no dobermans are present (unless they, too, have been transformed into butts), and the level can’t be completed, as it doesn’t even have the decency to provide a finish trigger, or fails at any rate to grant the player access to it (the level ends at a door that won’t open). For the rest I should like to refer the gentle reader to my review of the builder’s Return to Rome 1." - Mulf (08-Apr-2022)
"This is just as much of a mess as the first one. We have invisible poles marked by butts, the messed up sound effects, killer floors that don't look like they should be killer... I really have to wonder what Ice Man was up to. This can't have been an accident. Just no way. Folks, you can avoid this one. Unless you WANT to climb up buttpoles, of course." - Chel (03-Mar-2019)
"When I noticed the problem with the flash of the pistols was fixed I thought the author used a new wad, but in this case the problems with all the sfx are still here. Invisible poles, parts from Lara's body as pickups you can't get and the usual bugs when a wad is not well compiled. Again the same slides and jumps in rooms with no properly marked deadly tiles, some itemms to collect you will never use... If you played the first version you know what you'll find here, but this time without enemies. Not worth to play." - Jose (18-Dec-2017)
"What an incoherent mishmash of a level. I get that we're supposed to be in Rome, but the textures barely represent it. You also have butts everywhere (a couple even resembling poles!), unmarked death tiles, funny sounds when Lara swims and a freakish effect when she fires a gun. Don't even bother with it." - Ryan (08-Nov-2016)
"Oh, good grief, this is even worse than part 1. At least there are no dogs to shoot so you can dispense with the awful missing head effect, but everything else remains, i.e. the bums everywhere and the weird sound files. Avoid." - Jay (20-Aug-2016)
"Released a full two days after this author's first level(which, judging by it's overall quality, surprises me not one bit) this must surely rank as one of the absolute worst custom levels ever;but it actually entertains in a 'so bad,it's good' kind of way. The textures exhibit no trace of anything Romanesque;gameplay consists of one simple slide/jump sequence;and Lara's mis-matched sounds are as hilarious as they were in the first level. You can't reach the Finish Trigger;there are butts all over the place;and it will provide you with a good laugh for eight minutes. Unsurprisingly, the builder never released another level." - Orbit Dream (14-Apr-2012)
"Everything I liked in the previous part except the lighting is gone here. I don't wanna write too much, because there is nothing to write about, maybe except the buttpole... This word sounds like "jumpswitch" or "rollingball"... but this is a different story when some neologism gets into the official language, and we should still talk about the level. Unfortunately, a very poor level. SUMMARY: Want to know more about the game? Read about the first part - it is much better than the second one, which can't be recommended at all." - DJ Full (05-Oct-2010)
"hehe, a basically first builders time, the only thing i think i should award him with is the fact that its funny, and i think should be classed as a 'joke level' the new sounds for everything lara does makes me laugh until i fall off my chair! there is basically stretched textures galore, massive room galore e.t.c. basic first ever level without reading the manual levels :)" - ColeMoles (30-Jun-2007)
Yes, this level is worse than the first. The worst part is that it can't be completed as is. I still wanted to see the end though, so I grabbed my TR Position Editor and went to work. When I did get on the other side of that door, I realized that the trigger was set there. So, the door was 'openable', you just had to get on the other side of it first. After the door problem, I found a few things to do, but not much. There were two things that I could ACTUALLY pick up. I am not sure as to what their names were, since they were simply called 'load'. I also was never able to use these objects... which was kind of sad. There is no atmosphere, no sound, no cameras; and I gave a one on textures for the simple fact that they did exist - well, at least in most places. As with the other one, only download if you like a good little chuckle at other people's mistakes. Otherwise, stay away, stay far far away. - trplayer (07-Jul-2005)
"This level is even worse than 'Return to Rome 1'. Like the previous one I copied only the .Tom file and the scripts there is a strange sound (footsteps) a pool a brief sliding slope sequence the textures are stretched and there are butts everywhere (the only objects that aren't replaced by butts are medipacks flares vases and ammunition). This level is shorter than the previous one and it doesn't have a finishing trigger. This author needs to learn how to submit his levels by looking at the types of files that he has to send in order to prevent people from getting a bad image of his level." - Sakusha (03-Aug-2004)
"Ok for me it isn't to boost my review count but there aren't many levels out there I haven't played so I am down to the bad and buggy ones. As the previous reviewers said I also had butts around and stopped after getting the revolver. I didn't see a way to open the gate on the other side of the pool and I quitted as it's not worth the trouble. The jumps on the slopes are a piece of cake also climbing a butt pole was hilarious. The sounds are crazy in this level they are mixed and horrible plus Lara's head disappears when she shoots. Not that I found any enemies but since I read it in the readme file I had to try it. I wish the author have asked for some help to fix those bugs before releasing this. I am sorry to say that it's not worth the download." - Kristina (05-Aug-2003)
"I'm with Matthias this time just to boost my level count for the rest you better throw this one in the bin as it is a bad as the first one but a bit longer. 09-01-2003" - Gerty (18-Jan-2003)
"Being the optimist I am I really thought it can't be that bad as the others say and despite some textures and a respectively good lighting I sadly have to agree with them. Besides the small jump sequence there really is nothing to the gameplay and since Lara couldn't operate any of the butts in any way I had to Dozy to get a bit further where I was stuck for good. I guess the author didn't bother much himself about fixing all the bugs so I wont bother being the nice reviewer who enjoyed this horrible level." - eTux (28-Dec-2002)
"I should have taken the advice of the other reviewers and give this a miss but it seemed an easy way to up my review count. Bugs galore missing textures strange sounds floating butts and like everybody else I wasn't able to finish the level but the jump sequence was not that bad actually." - Dimpfelmoser (24-Nov-2002)
"Level designers usually get better at skills with every new level but it apparently is not the case for this one. It's just more of the same as the previous level but this is even worse! Butts all around!! Yes right at the beginning Lara can climb up a 'butt polerope' so she gets a key that she will use and it will have no effect. I can't understand this one and it has the same bugs of the previous one. Waste your time if you're into it." - Treeble (22-Sep-2002)
"Just like in the first 'Return to Rome' the same sound and shooting problems occur but this time there were also butts all over the level in place of objects like poles and I assume enemies as I never came across any I don't know if this was a problem that I could have got around when installing but it was an autoinstall so I didn't have much choice in where things went. Besides all that there was barely any game play anyway and the only key pick up though I don't know what it unlocked if missed couldn't be returned to. I really hope if this creator plans on making more of these levels that he fixes all the problems before releasing them otherwise they are total wastes of time." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"While part 1 still allowed some sort of progression and a glimpse of what these levels might end up to be when the bugs are sorted out this one is quite a nuisance with the same sound problems and a gameplay that seems to require the keys and pick-ups from part 1 (which you do not have) and apart from one slide/jump sequence does not offer anything of real interest." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"I am sorry but these two levels should never have been released. First off if you convert them with the accompanying files the sounds are all misaligned. When Lara swims she makes gunshot sounds etc etc. This can be rectified by replacing all but the .tom and the .wad files with the original files from the level editor and then converting to a .tr4 file. However Lara is still not working as every time she fires her head disappears and rays of coloured light emanate from where her head used to be. The galling thing is that the author knows this and advises of the bug in his readme file but as far as I am concerned he should fix it before releasing it for public consumption. I have deleted both and eagerly await the corrected versions." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is as horrible as Return to Rome 1... nothing else to say..." - Leandro (21-Jun-2002)
"It's almost hard to believe but this is worse than the original Return to Rome level. The bugs are still there and actually even worse. Plus what little gameplay there was in the original is now gone. I did like the jump/slide puzzle and I liked seeing the door from Chronicles with the dragons over the door but everything else needs serious work. It sounded like some a bad porno when Lara was swimming with all the grunting noises and the gunshots going off. I would love to see a level using the Rome textures but not this one!" - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is even worse than 'Return to Rome 1'! The texturing is worse there are even more bugs and I couldn't complete the level because of a door that I couldn't open. I suppose there wasn't anything of interest behind it anyway." - Magnus (21-Jun-2002)
