Reviewer's comments
"Yeah, I don’t think this is actually any better than the builder’s previous efforts. True, there’s more than one room this time around, but all you do in them is pull a few switches and kill a few enemies—precisely the same as in the builder’s debut, Egypt Hotel; except in this case, the (ever so slightly) more complex construction brings with it more errors and glitches, such as dysfunctional enemies. There is a prize pickup in the room where the finish trigger would be, and I guess that’s what tricked some reviewers into believing that there’s any gameplay to be had here. For further details the reader may refer to eTux’s comprehensive description, but I should like to add that I was amazed by the doors that flip from being open to being closed with no animation inbetween (something otherwise mentioned only recently by Torry). My rating honours the builder’s idea with the mummy, even though it doesn’t so much rise out of a sarcophagus as pop into existence on the tile where the sarcophagus happens to be, which ruins the effect when all it would have taken to work was to give it an OCB of 2." - Mulf (08-Feb-2022)
"Another 5 minute mini adventure from this author that offers no challenges, paper thin floors and harmless opponents with doors that simply vanish upon Lara's approach. Really not worth the look I'm afraid." - Torry (06-Oct-2019)
"Another very short level by this builder, with a couple of jumpswitches to activate, a brief bout of swimming, harmless enemies and again no finish trigger. The mummy emerging from a coffin was a nice touch, but otherwise there's nothing else worth mentioning." - Ryan (18-Nov-2016)
"Oh look, another terrible shooter level from Dylan. Only its set in Egypt this time around and with seemingly none of the issues from his previous works fixed in the slightest. So in the end, this can just as easily be tossed into the recycle bin like the rest of Dylan's other so-called releases up to this point. Avoid at all costs, unless you're a fan of mindless shooting." - Ceamonks890 (02-Dec-2014)
"You don't need to kill any single enemy in this game. You also don't need to pick up any item. But even if you kill all the enemies and collect all the pickups, this level is still a speedrun, which can be hardly called "gameplay". The level is full of identical pillars and identical doors. Texturing is monotonous, and the lighting is constant. The only thing I liked was a mummy rising from its sarcophagus. SUMMARY: Not recommended unless you want to watch the mummy rise from its tomb. It's in the end of the level, but if you decide to see it, you won't be waiting long, as the whole game lasts for at about 3 minutes." - DJ Full (06-Oct-2010)
"At the cost of having more than one room, there are quite a few wafer thin walls. But, when you compare this level to the others from this same author, I think this is the one that actually stands out. Still, it's a very early build. I thought the mummy coming out of the sarcophagus was a fun touch. The lack of a supplied script file also causes you to crash to desktop with every reload. 5 minutes. 11/08" - Treeble (10-Nov-2008)
"And so another 10 minutes of an afternoon passed playing two of this builder's levels. Actually there is some gameplay present in this one, so that's a step ahead. The enemies consist of one scorpion, some harpies that were stuck in the walls and a mummy that seemed to pop out of a coffin(pretty neat that one). Lara sports a nice wetsuit and there are some weapons and ammo to pick up + some very low jump switches to pull in order to open a door or two. Apart from that I support Gerty's suggestion. Please read through the manual and learn the basics: how to avoid wafer-thin walls, how to apply non-stretched textures, how to create a vivid atmosphere by decent use of lighting. First and foremost: do NOT skip the paragraph explaining how to create a finishing trigger, because you seem to have forgotten it again....as in every one of your creations." - Selene (09-Jan-2008)
"Another bad attemp of a level. A bunch of boxes (rooms) with some enemies to shoot. No puzzles, no musics, no cameras, paper walls, bad textured,... I pick up a scroll but I couldn't find a finish trigger and I supposed it was the end. A waste of time." - Jose (21-Nov-2007)
"It was a nice effort to make a level but still it needs a lot of work. This time we have a cleopal setting with again many thin walls and a very short level with minimum gameplay. There are a couple of jump switch to use, harpies and a lonely scorpion. I found no finishing trigger and lasted three minutes. Also if you try to load a savegame you might have a crash. I experienced that with a couple of my savegames. It's not a complete game but I think the builder is improving." - Kristina (05-Nov-2007)
"Another miniscule level from this builder and frankly it's not much of an improvement on the previous two. You get a couple of minutes of rudimentary gameplay - throw a couple of jump switches, kill a harpy, ignore two more who just want to fly into the wall, grenade a mummy and grab yourself a scroll. The end. Oh, and needless to say, no finishing trigger." - Jay (18-Oct-2007)
"A quick level that does not last longer than one minute, if you don't bother killing the harpies that are stuck in the walls. No lighting, stretched textures, thin walls and floors, a couple of jump switches...No finish trigger... and a mummy that makes a guest appearance at the end." - eRIC (14-Oct-2007)
"I think this is kh2lover10's best level to date. Sure, it has stretched textures, paperthin walls and non-existant lighting aplenty, but it does also have eight more rooms than some of his levels, water, one door was triggered by a {rather low} jump switch and Lara is sporting a rather fetching wetsuit. It also has a rather cool 'mummy coming out of a sarcophagus' moment. {I liked that!} What this level doesn't have is a finish trigger, though... Which is a shame, crashing to the desktop is never fun." - Kitkat (13-Oct-2007)
"Another bad level by kh2lover10 but there is one up side ... It has more than 1 room, it has 9! Some harpys (thats what i think they are called), a mummy and a scorpion. 3 minutes of net gaming time, better that aldwych nightmare in the gameplay, but worse in the way you built it. I just couldn't bother to do another detailed review because the builder didn't seem to bother with the level. It was a very bad level and again, not worth the download." - Cory (10-Oct-2007)
"Combine a smidgeon of gameplay with a simple storyline, add a few boring textures and no atmosphere, mix in a few waferthin walls and standard enemies (one of which gets stuck behind a pillar) and garnish with no Finish Trigger. The end result is a very paltry meal indeed." - Orbit Dream (10-Oct-2007)
"Arguably this was nine times the effort vs previous levels, as it has 9 rooms, but the score of 2 in the Enemies, Objects section is for the nice moment when the mummy pops up from the sarcophagus. Scorpions, harpies, 2 jumpswitches, plenty of thin walls/floors, no finish trigger. Try getting to the scroll in less than 60 seconds - it's possible." - MichaelP (10-Oct-2007)
"Poor Lara, she for sure will starve as I found (again) no finishing trigger. She cannot survive with the Scroll she found, unless there were some incantations on it I couldn't read. So Dylan, why not go back to the manual and do some more reading on how to texture, how to avoid paper-thin walls and how to use lights. Then perhaps have a read at how to make a finishing trigger." - Gerty (09-Oct-2007)
"Well, the author clearly knows how to connect rooms, make some of them to be water rooms, place objects and pickups, modify the wad to give Lara a new outfit, he even knows how to trigger enemies and make a number of other trigger types work, so you really have to ponder what was the trouble to go one step further and set up a finish trigger to at least give the player closure for finishing this rather brief run in the Cleopatra's Palaces setting. This level rather clearly is done without prior experience in constructing the tutorial level, and it shows as the room geometry is almost untouched, lighting never got a second look from the author, the textures are applied in a way to at least imply what kind of room the author intended it to be, but is far off a convincing environment, enemies appear out of thin air and generally the events feel rather random and disjointed even with a rather linear flow to the game. You can't even write down the oddities of the game to intentional surreality, so the overall impression comes off as rather weak. It's not that big of a download to make the game neglectable completely, but is not something you'll remember for a long time to come either if you play it." - eTux (09-Oct-2007)
"There isn't much to comment on here that the reviewers haven't already said, but in general, poor lighting/texturing/gameplay does not create an enjoyable experience. Despite the lack of a finishing trigger, I was pretty sure of where the level ended, which left nothing else for Lara to do other then wander around the level and ponder at some harpies that got stuck behind a pillar earlier." - Spike (09-Oct-2007)
