Reviewer's comments
"What an adorable little place this is. I understand this is a homage to the real life location where the German fans once met (and hopefully still do?) on occasion to celebrate our communal love for Tomb Raider. You run through a few houses in search of a few key items to ready up dinner for the meeting, even talk to a few guests with excellent voice acting from all parties involved. The secret in the bathroom had me giggling. Perhaps not quite as deep and elaborate as other releases out there, but this little gem had me genuinely happy to roam about freely. 20 minutes, 1 secret. 12/22" - Treeble (25-Dec-2022)
"here we have a too short of a home level that really has me on the garden fence in terms of opinion of enjoyment, it starts off outside with lovely textures, sunny atmosphere with lots of garden and greenery areas to explore well at least i thought! i kept finding myself being constantly irritated by lara bumping into invisible walls when im trying to explore and find a way to gain access to the house or any building, plus what is this timer about? i wanted to relax and immerse myself in the surroundings not worry about if i have to find or do something quickly. The things i did like was the timed run from the toaster to the cellar to pick up a crowbar in time, the platforming to get on the roof areas and the interesting objects to find and how you use them to progress were very original and clever but at the beginning i was irritated by how much i had to rely on a walkthrough when maybe a simple camera hint or "lara look" hint would of been better. Trying to pour water on that meat that was on fire was a real pain, because lara would either catch fire or the water wouldnt pour on even though i couldnt get any closer, the constant loop of the tr2 theme music did my head in every time i entered the house but the use of the lift to solve how to bring dinner to your friends was very clever. i enjoyed some of the level quite a lot but thats equal to what i didnt enjoy unfortunately, a real mixed bag" - John (10-Jun-2021)
"A captivating little level which took me 22 minutes to complete. Gameplay is pretty barebones(ultimately being nothing more than a speed run-worthy keyhunt), but the environment is still breath-taking to look at and the English voiceovers provided by Greenkey2 and R.King help bring a fair bit of distinctive personality to general affairs, in spite of how brief this levelset is. Sure, the amount of invisible walls placed throughout the map spoils the exploration factor and ultimately boils this level down to a mere novelty in the end. But it was still enjoyable while it lasted. And over 10 years after its original release in 2008, I have to say its aged rather well." - Ceamonks890 (01-Jul-2018)
"I'm afraid I encountered a few too many glitches in this otherwise beautiful level. Twice I got stuck in the surrounding areas and when I came to use the lift the second time it refused to open so I was unable to finish the level. That said it was indeed very aesthetically pleasing. I do like most of Clara's lovely levels but had to score this down due to the glitches (so sorry about that)." - High Priestess (29-Oct-2017)
"A 30 minute raid through a cute small house with a campsite outside of it. It's a nice way to kill some time but I wasn't really impressed to be completely honest. A variety of objects are used and this makes the level feel more unique when compared to others but it doesn't offer that much in gameplay. The puzzle near the end was kinda messy and confusing, exploring the house was fun though. The visuals are not very great but not bad at all either. There are no enemies whatsoever so you can wander around with no one disturbing you. Expected a better level so I'm kinda disappointed but it still has it's moments." - misho98 (10-Apr-2016)
"Not much to say, except to thank Clara for bringing the meeting to those of us who couldn't be there. Nice to hear the TR2 theme again. Great to see Lara finally prepare dinner for her guests. Thanks again." - Ryan (26-Feb-2016)
"Since the moment I have found THAT switch at the very border of playable area (and therefore the last think to check), this part (1.5?) went much better than Part 1. Tight explorable space which doesn't allow too much confusion, clear mission to feed hungry people, lots of minor details mysterious to an outsider yet clearly referring to meeting events, and significantly greater amount of audio applied in the always-comfy form of role-playing dialogue make this game - brace for rarely used word - fun. It sounds simple, and it is, but there's nothing more needed here. Clara is just universal, she has no troubles (?) in making a coherent level which doesn't have to be totally ambitious (still, it's lagging a bit but meh why not?). I found out two errors: 1) you don't even need the laser sight (so also the problematic switch), 2) you can see two bowls of soup if you do some elevator progress earlier than intended. None of these is an obstacle, and there's just one which I consider troubling: the invisible wall around the house isn't quite consistent - sometimes you can cross it to the next area, sometimes not, and I don't quite understand why (maybe the author just wanted to prevent people from accessing the illegal slope near the Youth Room, but there are better ways to deal with such things). SUMMARY: Different than Part 1 and I prefer it over that one. Recommended." - DJ Full (22-Jul-2015)
"A wonderful level with a lot of invisible walls! It's ironic that the outdoors contain so many restrictions, I learned to cope with the inposed rule and had a lot of fun exploring. The atmosphere was awesome, the friendly and cozy guest house was nicely decorated, the rooms were simple but effective and I knew my way through. In conclusion it's a relaxing playthrough, don't count the timer it's not important , just take it easy and enjoy!" - young Lara Croft (22-Feb-2015)
"A very, very amazing level! I loved this adventure from beginning to end and still play it now. Clara makes the most amazing house levels. The voices fitted in perfectly as well. You mostly have to find keys and meat. The textures were really good and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are actually where ever lara is. There was a hard part where you got to extinguish the fire to get the meat. Other than that it was very fun and recommended to everyone." - afzalmiah (04-Mar-2011)
"Fun and with a touch of reality the 30 minutes it should last. Some innovative elements were brought in, textures and lightning were very good. Nice atmosphere here. Recommended." - manarch2 (18-Dec-2010)
"This is a pleasant, enemy free, romp that reminded me in several ways of the Christmas levels we've been seeing lately, in that the player explores a house and the immediate environs in search of certain ingredients involved in the preparation of a meal. It all fits together quite nicely, although it's a bit brief as these levels go. I finished in a little over a half hour, but I can certainly recommend this level as a nice diversion from the slugfest and trap-ridden fare that we normally encounter in Lara's raids." - Phil (19-Oct-2010)
"If this depicts the actual venue for the '08 Meet,(and it seems to do so) then it's a charming location for a TR gathering. Clara charms us with not only with the location and atmosphere but with the new objects such as the coffee pot, matches(sigh* I did try to use them on the campfire) a 'useable' wine bottle and yogurt and chocolate for medipacks. Lara makes coffee, soup and uses a timed toaster to start a run for a crowbar. The cook's 'moves' a la Michael Jackson made me smile and it's part of the camaraderie shown in the ending scene where Lara serves up her home-made soup. There's a challenge to re-play the level in the quickest time possible and a running clock in the corner screen to time it. Well done, Clara." - Bene (14-Oct-2008)
"The author has made an amazing work to recreate in game the place where the TR meetings take place each year in Germany , with many convincing and realistic details for the decor. This level has great qualities, in the sounds category too. If there is no great action to perform , there are many cool objects and original puzzles to solve, some of them are not really obvious. The fact that the"gameplay area" outside is limited by invisible blocks is odd, but we get used to it after a while. There is no enemies but some humoristic personages." - eRIC (03-Aug-2008)
"As ausual in this author, a very well made level with a nice environment. A lot of new objects, good animations, no enemies to shoot, fantastic architecture and very well lightened and textured. Your goal is to make a soap and take it to the dinning room so the people can have a good lunch. But this wont be easy 'cause you have to figure out many actions out of normal in TR custom levels. Although some tasks are intuitive like to put the meat in the bowl or light the wood in the campfire, another times it's difficult to trigger something 'cause the objects don't work in any position or direction. Even so it's an excellent work with a lot of new features." - Jose (29-Jul-2008)
"This was fun, although I half played it on the TR meeting I had to do it again all by myself at a later date and it still was fun. Clare did capture the atmosphere of the meeting place in Bad Emstal excellent. Of course there are some liberties that Lara took as we for sure didn't smash a boulder through a door. For the rest, you had to be there to fully appreciate what Clara made. As I am lousy in playing on time, I will not reveal my time but it was way over 30 minutes" - Gerty (24-Jul-2008)
"well very short level to could make any remarks about it ........some keys to find and finaly prepare the soup for the quests and bring it at second floor for the party ;)..the only toughest part was at the very beggining to find the lever to open a door and get a sight for revolver wich albeit need to use only once to shot a high placed button in the wall .....pleasant level to play albeit i cannot give such high marks for a short level with nothing special trapp or difficult jump /time run on it ....is a level suited for begginer riders ..... albeit not bad one cheers ...." - Jack& (11-Jul-2008)
"Mainly I just want to say thank you for bringing us all to the TR meeting in truly lovely settings that make you wish you'd been there too. Quite well imagined and put to work, there were a few moments I really loved, namely the chef's intervention and also a few times when I got very stuck - that is, until I found out the solution: a toaster with a switch for a timed run, my that was really clever! Quite enjoyable, thanks again." - Jorge22 (10-Jul-2008)
"Really great but a little too short level. The beginning is very hard because Clara used unconventional ideas,it is also very interesting and inventive. I enjoy it very much and i am sure that everybody should try to find the only one secret which is hidden in .. Nope i will not say :-) My opinion 38/40 Great work Clara !" - ersatz (10-Jul-2008)
"I had the pleasure of playing this at the 2008 TRMeeting and the owner of the Hostel was actually standing behind me,watching me play. She was unaware of custom levels and therefore thought that the game was shop bought. You can imagine her surprise (and not a little fear!)when she realised that Lara was running around her own house! Everything about this charming and delightful little outing is just so absolutely right that it's an intense pleasure to play and, take it from me,the house and gardens (and horizon) really do look just like that in real life. Gameplay is inventive (a timed Toaster!) and full of humour and the details are lovingly caught. I was particularly fond of the Table Tennis Table and the 'Beth hillside' - but you'd have had to have been there to understand why!" - Orbit Dream (28-Jun-2008)
"When I first started playing this level I just thought it was so beautiful that I wished Lara could have a seat on a bench and take it all in! I did take several minutes looking around and gawking at that amazing horizon! I have never seen that before in any level. Regarding gameplay, I thought there was much creativity and lots of fun things to do. I was too duncey to figure out that the lift was going to be for moving the soup bowl later, so I ended up with two bowls and some confusion, but I figured it out! My biggest complaint was the awful bird sounds audio. I had to turn the music volume all the way down so not to go crazy. I use headphones (my speaker wire fell victim to my puppy's chewing habit) and the bird sounds were quite unbearable. Due to this, I missed what the cook had to say by the meat house. Besides this and the strange two-pot situation, there was little to complain about regarding this adorable level. I just loved it!" - Shandroid (26-Jun-2008)
"It's true that the way you look at this level will probably differ depending on whether you attended the meeting in Bad Emstal or not. Having had the pleasure to be there myself, I can only congratulate Clara on capturing the feel of the place excellently, even down to minute details - I think even the delicious Strawberry pie was there in the kitchen! The gameplay itself has a plethora of clever moments, like the placement of the secret, the toaster timed run, the use of a boulder among other things, and even if you're competing for the best times, the funny dialog lines easily break the tension and thus rounds up to an excellent little level to play. The looks, as mentioned, are authentic and I could easily relate to my own experiences in the house as an added extra. If anything, the invisible walls that separate the playable from the non-playable area rob the level its believability, but on the other hand - I think it would've been far fetched to expect Clara to build the village and woods area around it for the sake of believability, and the level serves it's purpose well overall, so short of giving my best recommendations for this level, I think I have nothing more to say!" - eTux (26-Jun-2008)
"What a good idea for a level this is, although I must say Lara's manners need some improvement. Smashing open the door to somebody's house with a boulder is not good behaviour in a guest. She does make up for it by preparing dinner later on though. This is a lovely looking level, well worth taking plenty of time to appreciate before attempting any speed trials. It looks so realistic that I felt as though I'd had a nice little holiday break with friendly people in charming surroundings. Whether you want to play it for speed or not, you should really enjoy the atmosphere and unusual objects to interact with. Good fun." - Jay (26-Jun-2008)
"Okay, I admit it. I love Clara's levels and this one, while short, is certainly no exception ! The venue of this is perfect. I feel like I got to sample some of the flavor of the meeting and even assigned names to the people who gathered in the end. The new objects are wonderful, especially the cook and his cheeky gesture ! Lara's objective is to locate the various keys needed to unlock several rooms and ultimately gather everyone for what was no doubt a fabulous dinner. Wish I'd been there. My time is not worthy of publication because I stubbed my toes on the "closet" and in the smoke house. Ah well, never mind. Thank you Clara !!" - Mugs (24-Jun-2008)
"This level will of course work so much better for those people who (like me) have actually had the great pleasure to be at the TR Meeting IX, because Clara has wonderfully captured many details of the location and it is really amazing how authentic the overall look of the place is. Apart from that you do get a decent little 30 minute level to play through with a few funny dialogues and original objects and activities, like a toaster switch for a timed run. Speaking of timed runs, the level also does have a timer and so you can choose to compete for the fastest time to get through the level as well, if you were so inclined. My current best effort - 9:56 mins, 1 secret." - MichaelP (22-Jun-2008)
