Reviewer's comments
"Pretty much what you'd expect out of a Cain level really. Massive rooms with automatic texturing, hardly any work on the lighting side (which made spotting the pickups that much more annoying), and a bazillion of large sized enemies to drive you insane. The first fight was rough, but afterwards it got easier, I felt, and I ignored all enemies on the floating platforming bit as it seemed much simpler. For the completionists only, and even then this is still a questionable endeavour. 25 minutes. 12/22" - Treeble (30-Dec-2022)
"Wow this one even has gameplay and foreshadowing: there is a key placed in a way that you can see it earlier on through a semi-transparent texture, and you have to figure out how to get there - phenomenal. The drive down the tight passage where you can’t see anything due to all the T-Rexes in your path – legendary. The other highlight was the change from ‘Save Game’ to ‘Save Cain’ – yes, I think we need to save him from himself. He’s just too great." - Sethian (14-Dec-2020)
"An extremely combat heavy level where Lara guns down all sorts of enemies: giant fish, giant bid monsters, star wars droids, devilish dogs, and so on. There isn't much else going on except for some rope swinging and pushing a block. Also you get to run over some of the enemies in a pizza hut truck which is certainly a unique way to end the level. I liked this one a bit more than Cain's Tower, although that doesn't say much. 23 minutes." - JesseG (02-Dec-2020)
"For better or worse (more likely the latter), Cain stays true to his recognisable style here, namely go in and slaughter everything you can and then some. I could go into detail about lighting and texturing but... you know the score. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're a mindless shooter fan. I did think that the Pizza Hut vehicle and overlarge machine gun was funny though." - Ryan (30-Mar-2019)
"I found the atmosphere of this level to be better than the previous ones, as this one uses some varied lighting and rooms aren't so blocky. The tedious thing was battling the enemies, and I didn't want to waste time using pistols or other weapons so as usual I had to cheat to get rid of them easily (and the minigun is back :D). It can be a little awkward while Lara is crawling, as you can literally see her panties O_o The ride on the pizza hut car wasn't any better, as you had to make your way through some T-Rex-infested passages and it was hard to see where you were going. It sure is a horrid place to be trapped, and only Lara can be kidnapped and taken to the most bizarre worlds that Cain can create." - alan (20-Jan-2019)
"Another tedious shooter level, as we run around in unnecessarily dark and unappealing environments, trying our best to survive through the increasingly unfair enemy odds, with the lack of proper gameplay balance being especially damning and prevalent here. So, if none of Cain's other attempts have convinced you by now that he was a builder who was ultimately terrible at what he does, I don't know what will. Avoid at all costs!" - Ceamonks890 (04-Dec-2014)
"I honestly don't know if I've played all of Cain's levels by now,as I'm not going to waste any time going to check - and they all look and play the same anyway;but this possibly just scrapes the (admittedly lowly) award of 'best Cain level' by dint of having a smidgen of gameplay progression (you actually re-cross earlier areas by different routes - a relatively sophisticated style of design),a degree of strategy at the start (conserve ammo before you're able to collect your heavy weaponry reward),and a hilariously nifty Cain Superweapon. Everything else is typically cut-price;but tolerable nonetheless.30 minutes of incessant killing, with a hint of enjoyability in there somewhere." - Orbit Dream (06-Nov-2014)
"I don't think I'm the target audience for Cain's levels, but I feel like they deserve analysis regardless. This is a fairly generic 20 minute shooter, where Lara packs heat and downs baddies en masse. If you're up for riddling things with bullets, then this is exactly what the doctor ordered. If you're like me and want more story, atmosphere, and puzzles, then you will do best to avoid this one. Though the pizza hut car was kind of cute." - Xela (31-Aug-2014)
"Gameplay - 2 (I am glad Cain did that rope swing - it felt really fine when it appeared it is not another backtrack, but a clever planned path crossing the previous one) # Puzzles - 1, as there is a few of them (actually only one key, but well done) # Enemies - 3 (a Cains profession) # Objects - 1 (many of them, but not so well placed, e.g. a tree floating above a floor # Secrets - 0 # Atmosphere - 2 (much above the average) # Sound - 1 # Cameras - 0 (there is one, showing Lara locked in a cage in the beginning, and it is very fine, but not enough for me) # Lighting - 2 (it is not better than in other levels of Cain, but it immersed me in dark, gloomy interiors, in the end exchanging with bright, juicy green outside) # Textures - 3 (they are the best part of this custom, and the author has proved one can do many good things with Maria Doria tiles, even if they are accompanied by average lighting) ## SUMMARY: If you like Maria Doria levels, you gonna love it. This level includes the best textures of all Cains works. But remember this custom is still a serial killer level, with linear gameplay and few puzzles, definitely not recommended for someone who prefers classic raiding and loves complex riddles." - DJ Full (04-Aug-2010)
"Masterpiece from Cain?God,it's garbage.Dark and boring.I liked the droids,but they're coming endlessly,and this is fustrating after a while.Don't play it." - rtrger (17-Aug-2009)
"With 20+ minutes, this level lasted more than it seemed, which is a good sign that the level was far from being boring :] This is a Cain's level , with all the usual suspects , and an army of T-Rex as special guests while Lara is driving a"pizza hut" van :] Another crazy moment was the jumps room where enemies appear out of thin air while Lara lands on the pillars :] I thought I would be running out of ammos and health as I noticed the grenade gun only when returning above one the first rooms , the one with the couple of ropes. The best moment in the level was when Lara has found Cain's special magnum and she can have a lot of fun killing an army of Giant birds with that new weapon. I won't speak of the texturing , lighting or puzzles , as you know what you can expect in a Cain's level." - eRIC (22-Aug-2008)
"The 'tagline'of this adventure is: "A real masterpiece by Cain." I love that! I also love the strange phenomenon that are Cain levels by Cain. Sure there are paperthin walls, weird enemies, bad lighting and no real puzzles except how to stay alive. But somehow it is fun. Maybe it is the self deprecating humour or maybe it is the pizza delivery car. I don't know. I just know I enoy them." - Kitkat (20-Jul-2008)
"Quite the usual Cain Level with 20+ minutes of killing frenzy, slaughtering yet again the weirdest mix of enemies on a fairly linear romp through fairly square and relatively dark rooms. The Pizza Hut Jeep which allows you to drive through hordes of T-Rexes is quite cute though." - MichaelP (01-Jul-2008)
"What an utterly waste of time. Sorry I just don't get it. What is the fun of huge enemies appearing out of thin air with all the weapons you can imagine and then to shoot them to smithereens? That is no fun in my book. I could have used some flares, as it was too bloody dark. Oh well another level I can chalk up." - Gerty (01-Jul-2008)
"Unfortunately this level didn't make an impression on me. Mostly you have to keep running and shooting various kind of enemies and thats's almost everything you have to do which means that there's not real gameplay included in this level. Surroundings are very boxy rooms that have only ambience lighting and boring texturing. The best part of the level was when it ended. Play it if you like shooting enemies all the time." - Samu (30-Jun-2008)
"Well this is classic Cain - complete carnage with copious amounts of weird enemies (although the chickens do make me laugh). There is a little more in the way of gameplay going on than usual but unless you're a real hardcore shooter fan I wouldn't bother - there certainly isn't any pretty scenery to admire in between the bouts of slaughter." - Jay (30-Jun-2008)
"If someone would ask me which of the phenomenon is worse - the Cain or the Amanda Lepore one - I would not be sure what to answer. Fact is, though, that both builders spawn new levels like mushrooms after rain and the whole community is there to take the force of the blow whether they like it or not. If you've played any other level of Cain's this will really offer nothing new. You battle the infamous Cain eels, chicken, bird monsters, T-Rexes, purple wolves and Star Wars enemies (what, no boulder-headed bears?) in a setting you could describe as the TR2 shipwreck (after it's been beaten to pulp) and with an impressive arsenal to take care of them. There are also a few rope swings and a ride with a Pizza hut delivery car, but as you guess the main chunk consists of the bloodbath. That said - figuring out how to survive the first minutes before you get some decent firearms was fun enough, and there was something quite exhilarating about shooting an entire squad of birdmonsters with your newly acquired and appropriately titled MiniGun. If you can rank them - this would probably be Cain's best to date, but quite honestly it's not all that different from his rest so if you enjoy his style - you'll like it, but it probably won't win any new fans." - eTux (29-Jun-2008)
"I really liked this level. It was actually something to do and a bit varied in textures, although there were some paperthin walls. But that didn't ruin the fun of playing this. :)' And Cain's mini gun is awesome! :D But some scary music would have fitted in aswell. :) Keep up the good work Cain, you do get better. :)" - Larson 1988 (29-Jun-2008)
