Reviewer's comments
"There's something rather odd about this level. The long, sweeping opening flyby sets the scene for a rather majestic adventure and indeed that's what you might expect. It's a shame that the actual gameplay didn't really live up to my expectations. It's not bad as such, but there's just not much to do apart from shoot guards with some high powered weaponry, push a lot of buttons and do some running around. Found a few missing textures too." - Ryan (30-Jun-2017)
"Well that escalated quickly! We went from no action at all to fully engage from no were and that's actually a flaw from this level. Why don't they just attack Lara to begin with? And the two first keys are just a bit to easy.. The level it self was well design and even with the annoying cameras was a nice place to be even with everyone trying to kill you. But the fact that you went full agroo just because you pick up some weapons its just a bit to much.. The sound was buggy, the textures were a bit miss placed in some snowy places and the lightning in the last part was.. well.. there wasn't! Still, loved the AK-47 even if a bit to over powered and the action at the end was fun! Will recommend to play for a bit but be patient with the beginning and the backtracking" - Leeth (21-Nov-2015)
"A lot could have gone better on this one. To start i don't know if it's considered a two level trle. Russia2 seems more like a part 2 then a new level, so i'll considered it like this. I loved the introduction to the level, it really gives you the feeling that the next minutes you'll spend on this level will be worth it, but unfortunately, not really. At first the first two keys are practically giving to the player, it was preferable if there was no keys to pick up. Second the fact that when you go outside, the soundtrack doesn't chance to an outdoor theme really ruins the setup. It felt like i was still inside but snowing. Third, the second part of the level contains a super OP weapon to be used against the Russian guards, which was the only section through the game play that i enjoyed. Fourth: Lara has no animation when opening a door. And last, some textures were missing. It's a weak level overall, a lot of things could have been done better...but it's not that bad. At least it keeps the player entertained by the minimum amount through a couple of minutes." - Zhyttya (21-Nov-2015)
"In this fairly short level Lara must find her pistols and escape a Russian prison. The guards are friendly at first but after Lara picks up the pistols and an AK47 (nice) this whole level turns into one big death match. That pretty much sums up the whole game play. There are three secrets and while I think I did find them all, there was only 1 listed in the statistics. Textures are nice but obviously applied in a hurry as there a plenty of missing ones here and there, but overall the level has a fairly modern and attractive look and if you don't mind a few bugs, wrong animations and other shortcomings this shooter could be a perfect fit for in between. (20 min)" - Blue43 (21-Nov-2011)
"It looks like you can play this from the download; NOT so, you have to get a copy of the Title TR4 and the uklogo into the Data folder. You also have to convert te audio from MP3 into wav files. This gives limited music though. This level is not for me, I hate shooters and the big NO NO here is that limited ammo for the guns, not that I mind a challenge, mind you. Must be a boy thing. Had no problem with the loading on my XP machine. Texture wise it could use improvements as some are squashed and I even saw a place that wasn't textured at all." - Gerty (24-Jun-2010)
"The supplied tomb4.exe seems to take forever to load on Windows XP, and I was tempted to use the standard one but I guess it would have made things to simple, seeing as the game puts you in prison without any weapons and limited pistol ammunition. Like other reviews have mentioned, several of Lara's animations are missing. The end of the world is right within reach, and enemies will pop out of thin air (mostly on the second part). Picking up the TNT loads up the second part, so make sure you pickup the AK47 next to it before. After using the TNT, you just drop into a cave and collect an Eye Piece to finish the level. With more work and a little more to do other than push buttons, this level could turn into something I'd enjoy a lot (as I do like base and snow based levels), but as it is right now, it seems to be rather incomplete. 15 minutes, 2 secrets. 11/08" - Treeble (03-Nov-2008)
"I seem to have appreciated this much more than my fellow reviewers but what's not to like? Wrong animations for opening doors where Lara just gets into position and without using Ctrl the doors open. Yes, the builder is new and messed up the animation but the end result is funny moments in an area where there are usually few laughs. Good opening flyby, setting the stage amid a snowy, cold clime. Once Lara picks up the TNT, her guards, who have ignored her previously, are now on a determined mission to stop her from escaping and it takes some strategy to get Lara safely beyond the gates. I enjoyed this short little adventure with the falling snow, silly animations and ending gunfight and I'm hoping the author hones his skills and brings us a continuation as I saw an area that looked like it could be the start of the next installment." - Bene (09-Oct-2008)
"A nice short level in which you have to get out of a base surrounded by guards. The opening flyby is very nice, other than the changes of music half way through. Gameplay is simple and you can reach the end in around 15 mins." - Cory (29-Sep-2008)
"Strange level. When Lara escapes from the prison the guards does nothing; only when she get her pistols they attack, but rest of the guards disappear. I liked the natural snowy environment, the russian soldiers, the lowering health into the cold water and the AKS74u. The floor lever in the first level is unnecessary (?); you can finish the level quickly without doing half of the tasks. The two levels are very short, but is enough action in both to be occupied all the time, although I missed some puzzles." - Jose (29-Jul-2008)
"This 15 minutes 'quickie' is perfect to play in between the biggest adventures. It is not difficult but you get a bit of adrenaline at the end. The level begins by a good presentation with a long flyby of the Russian base under the snow (this fly by goes through some object at one point though). In the first level, Lara must open some doors and find some weapons plus the object that will allow her to leave the place. Until that point the guards (there are plenty of them) were friendly, but then at the level change, all hell break looses on Lara as these guys are now hostile and they are quite resistant to kill, plus they drain Lara's health to the max. So the challenge is to find the good tactic between running and shooting back, but as the end is not far it should not be a problem to reach it. Maybe more could have been done for the looks, and there is a couple of details that seem odd, but the levels are globally solidly done." - eRIC (26-Jul-2008)
"The guards don't initially seem too bothered that Lara's breaking out of prison, which is just as well considering she hasn't got any weapons about her person (although a generous starting amount of medis is provided). This is a debut level and a brave attempt. It may not work in every aspect and shows signs of inexperience, but some thought has obviously been given to the storyline and overall look of the forbidding mountain stronghold and for the short while it lasts the gameplay isn't at all horrible. A builder with good potential I feel." - Jay (05-Jul-2008)
"As far as debut's go, this is actually half as bad and had great potential to be a good level, but a list of shortcomings amounted to a less than optimistic outcome. There are missing animations (Lara opens doors with the power of her mind), odd object placements (2 double doors in a row?, boxes floating on top of icy water?), simplistic lighting and Lara's odd relationship with her captors. As long as she is unarmed they did not care about her roaming the base in the slightest, but as soon as she found the pistols, they figured something's wrong and the massacre began. The gunfights were more prominent in the second part of this game, but by then you had more powerful weapons to take care of the soldiers, and they were little to no trouble despite the limited ammo for all your weapons. Be wary that picking up the TNT ends the first part of the game, so be sure to do everything you want in the first part before the pickup. Other than that - it's a nice 15 minute level in an icy base setting and while it suffers from a lot of trouble's that most beginner efforts do, it shows promise of great things to come (with more initiative from the author himself, obviously), so worth a go." - eTux (01-Jul-2008)
"A short double level of about 15 minutes which conveys a fairly authentic escape-from-prison scenario due to the use of the patch that limits your available weaponry and ammo. Generally not too much to do though, except a few levers and buttons and then shooting your way free to the exit. Make sure you pick up the AK47 first and then the TNT as this triggers a level jump. As a debut level this still shows a few technical flaws, like the doors that magically open, the invisible door block at the exit, the switch/button animation that is wrong and the texturing and lighting needs more care and work, but it is still fun to play while it lasts and we can only hope to see more from this builder." - MichaelP (01-Jul-2008)
"The opening 30 seconds of this level (a long and rather graceful Flyby) so beautifully sets the (well-constructed) scene that the resultant small adventure can't avoid being anything but a disapointment. Which is a real shame as this is a very decent stab for a 'first level',with a very effective sense of place incorporating a well constructed outdoor Prison compound.Once the game begins, however, you notice all the traditional beginners errors: doors placed incorrectly and too large for their slots;incorrect animations;enemies appearing out of thin air. The gameplay is elementary and is basically all about machine-gunning hordes of baddies. It's fun but basically undemanding and you'll be through in no more than twenty minutes.Nonetheless,it looks good and has a clear and solidly portrayed storyline. Give it a go for a short spell of enjoyable entertainment." - Orbit Dream (01-Jul-2008)
