Reviewer's comments
"A Tomb Raider speed run. Nice. Took me well over 12 minutes to complete but probably half an hour in real time with all the reloads. I see some times were in the six minute mark. How the hell? My old fingers don't work quite as well anymore I guess." - Torry (15-Oct-2019)
"This is probably more enjoyable for those who were able to attend the actual meeting, so the hype was a bit lost on me. I've never really tried to rush through Tomb Raider levels (custom or otherwise), so my total time (15 minutes and 20 seconds) is probably really poor compared with others on here, but I didn't really mind. No enemies, objects or secrets, but the background music and colourful jazzy textures were admittedly fitting for the speedrun. Give it a try if you want to beat your best time." - Ryan (18-Jun-2018)
"Not very interesting except for the players who wanted to participate in the contest. Short level with a cool background music where you need to execute all kind of jumps and gymnastics through a series of floating blocks with colourful textures. Good for beginners to practice. My time: around ten minutes (leisurely)." - Jose (25-Aug-2017)
"My time was not really good and I don't give more points for speedrun levels but the jumping parts were really interesting and made great fun. Visually it is OK but the greenish textures are just for a better view for the path. Luckily this level was really bright, so nothing was too annoying. Recommended for perfectionists and green lovers." - manarch2 (30-Jan-2011)
"This is not a Lara's adventure but only a timed game, I love those levels. My time 6' and 25" is actually the best time. It's a good training game for the beginners." - Pablito_it (07-Aug-2009)
"A levelpack based on Mirror's Edge?I hate it,but these levels were awesome.Entertaining way to test your skills.Nothing special about the enviroment and the textures, but the music fits perfectly to the levels. My time was 8 minutes.A creative levelpack.8/10 and lots of fun." - rtrger (29-Jul-2009)
"While I couldn't attend to the actual Meeting, I did see a few videos about this competition on YouTube and that made me decide to give it a shot. It is indeed a fast paced platforming level and while everything looks quite simple, most of the time you will be required maximum precision and excellent timing for some jumps. My computer is obslote so I suffered some lags in certain angles (which is rather funny, considering how clean it looks), but I still had a blast with this level. I reached the end in 10:47, but it probably took me around half an hour to actually finish it. 07/09" - Treeble (13-Jul-2009)
"I guess this won't come across as effectively as it did in the TR Meeting and is just one of those moments where you had to be there to experience why levels like these are built. The speed-raiding competition with the author himself, MichaelP, Michum, Clara and Buck was definitely one of the highlights of that meeting for me, even if I didn't manage to win any bragging-rights in the end! When you're racing other players for a best time you forget that using the room editor's colour scheme with a random horizon and rain is a bit of a cop-out, even if a creative one, that the music isn't exactly suited for concentrating for any of the tasks at hand (possibly done so on purpose :P) and that it's actually a fairly short linear ride from point A to B when all is said and done. But the tasks are exciting enough to keep you going, the whole setting has a somewhat surreal puzzle-game feel to it, and the entertainment factor surrounding the event as a whole was exciting enough for me to rate the level somewhat higher than I would normally. Of course, none of this might convince you to like the level more, but I only wanted to explain why I liked it and why I might feel biased towards it. You should still try it, if only to see how you would fare - I managed to get my time down to 8 minutes and 4 seconds on my 4th retry - i.e. first one after the actual competition." - eTux (08-Jul-2009)
"This level is not Lara's classical adventure, it is rather an obstacle race and running of crossings that asks for quite a lot of dexterity to finish it in honourable time. It is also a very good game of training for the beginners. The decor is simple but enough for this type of level or they pass very quickly everywhere, not the time to admire the landscape. Anyway it is amusing to play and it is the basics." - Daffy (06-Jul-2009)
"It's purpose is clear, to amuse a group of Tomb Raider fans, at an all-Tomb-Raider meeting (LE to be more precise). I thought that by playing it I could try to feel some of the emotions those attending the meeting felt, but this is one of those things where you just had to be there. For a Tomb Raider level, it's nothing special really, but just for why it was created this is something that will go on the history of TRLE for some long time. On a more positive side, it is good to test your playing abilities. One last thing, if you have the chance of playing a this level with a friend, do it. PS - If you have any problems blame the rollerball..." - Just Croft (05-Jul-2009)
"I have absolutely no intention of embarrassing myself by mentioning how long I took in my first try at this. Suffice it to say that I could do better. You really should try this, it's a lot of fun, leaping about in the sky on colourful shapes to some driving music. Obviously, it's a bit difficult to rate this as a level as it is purely a speed trial and not intended to be anything else. Just think of it as a psychedelic assault course and see how fast you can go." - Jay (03-Jul-2009)
"It's a gymnastic workout for Lara. Clever design to push the raiding skills, and do it all in a rush. I guess the bonus of using the Editor window colour scheme is that you can't be accused of bad texturing. And whilst it may all look rather simplistic (by intention), you have to appreciate the design work that has gone into making this all work so neatly. Objects are intentionally scarce, but the ones used such as the kite and pushblocks all added to the gameplay. The music selections all added to the adrenalin rush of the speed raid. I'm glad I was able to take on this assault course in the comfort of my own space though, as it could have been quite embarrassing in a competition situation as was done at the German TR Meeting. Very good fun." - EssGee (03-Jul-2009)
"Unfornately nothing special, just an another speed runner level. Its would be super, but no. Textures from the "Level Editor", i dont know why didnt you used normal texures from an classic TR game, or i dunno. Gameplay is good, not too hard, not too easy, my stat is 9 minutes, first time. Nothing object in this level, just Lara and polerope, aaand a big medi + "tightrope". Music is good, but on the 2nd level the track stucked and play twice at the same time, very annoying! :-( If you a speedrunner, or just want to test your skills, try it, but hmmm... as i said, nothing special." - Roli (03-Jul-2009)
"Also to the jubilee meeting there is a speed contest again. This time the level comes from Christoph (aka illyaine). The rules are quite easy of course: Jump, slide and climb as fast as possible. Here of course one may not expect the high level architecture with perfectly built rooms. But this is why it does not go also at all. Here are many floating islands spread about a big area. And there the player has to go by. As fast as possible. And this gives incredibly a lot of fun. One is again and again in search of even shorter ways and tries again and again to underbid his/her own time. And of course the better time of other players. And then one is occupied with it already for a while. In this sense: A lot of fun and happy Raiding" - Scottie (01-Jul-2009)
"A nice fun little interlude here from your typical tomb raider adventure. Very good for practicing your jumping skills! Nice to play something totally different :)" - TheStig (01-Jul-2009)
"This is such a treat of a little level if you are into testing your skills in moving Lara around a course as quickly as possible. The sterile setting in the rain and the driving audio work well together and there are plenty of moments where you can gain or lose time by moving more or less swiftly. At the time of writing this review, my best time was 7:44, but I trust this will be beaten by the usual suspects out there and I will follow with interest to see what the best time will be in the end. Great fun! And even more fun to go through this in a live competition, as we did at the TR Meeting with illyaine, eTux, Buck, Michum, Clara and myself playing through this in parallel. Hats off to illyaine again for a glorious victory there!" - MichaelP (30-Jun-2009)
"Reviewing this level is actually a little more difficult than usual for me, partially because (in my opinion) everything within it suffers from that old "double-edged sword" effect. To start on a high note, the gameplay is generally fun and fast paced, with a nice focus on bounding around the environment in the best time you can. While a little more variety here and there would have been nice, the level should be entertaining enough as a whole for most players. The visuals are also clean, and allow the players to easily see where they have to go. Also, the audio is certainly fast paced and matches well with the "Speed Raiding" theme of the level. However, as suitable as everything is from a technical standpoint, my personal opinions differ greatly. The visuals may be clean, but they are also incredibly bland and held little visual appeal for me. The audio may be fast-paced, but to be frank - I utterly despised it, and would have gladly muted my speakers had I not decided to continue listening to it for the sake of this review. Objects are far and few between, and while this also contributes to the clean and sterile feel of the level, I once again feel like more effort could have been put into their use (perhaps a few crystal or glass structures could have been added in the distance here and there?). As a whole, this level is generally quite different to the norm, in both good and bad ways. When it boils down it, this level basically "does its job" and nothing more, due to the lack of interesting or appealing aesthetics. Still, it's always entertaining to see Lara channel the power of a goddess into her muscles on those swingpoles, eh?" - Spike (30-Jun-2009)
"You really had to be there.Picture the scene: a long table with rows of laptops;"ready-steady-GO!";the furious tapping of keys;the frantic music;the exuberant spectator commentaries;the panicked cries of the players as they missed a jump. It's not the same on your living-room table at home.On the plus side, though,is the fact that no-one can see you cross the Finish trigger in a perfectly mediocre time of something-and-something-seconds without any accompanying derisory jeering.Gameplay is fast and furious (as is mandatory)but occasionally a little sneaky,as some of the floating blocks are red-herrings.There are no enemies (if one discounts the fiendish jumps),but objects are used well. The Atmosphere is appropriately odd, while the bright primary textures are used to full effect. It's fun, fast and a right good laugh.Don't miss out on this.(Better yet,get a bunch of friends and their laptops round, and play it as a group!)" - Orbit Dream (30-Jun-2009)
"I thought this was a very neat, little level, all it needed was some objects and secrets and it would have been great. I thought it was a very interesting idea to make a assault course level and i applaud you for it. I dont really have anything else to say. Overall - 7/10" - herothing (30-Jun-2009)
