Reviewer's comments
"Quite a few unfortunate issues in this short Nevada style level. There seems to be some kind of portal issue present throughout, causing the camera to constantly get stuck, and sometimes Lara herself gets stuck in a void, so save often if you attempt to play this one. Other issues include unactivated traps, paper thin walls, missing textures, flat lighting, wallpapered texturing...you get the picture. I did enjoy being able to use the quad bike for a bit, as well as the handful of enemies to contend with, except that pitch-black snake pit which was a bit excessive, with an equally excessive pushblock to help you climb back out. 26 minutes." - JesseG (08-Apr-2021)
"If you ever wondered what a migraine looked like, look no further. The camera in the first half of this level is completely broken, getting stuck every two or steps. Fortunately the problem doesn't happen later on, but that's not much of an improvement as everything is simply too flat. Huge, boxy and empty rooms where all you do is mow down soldier after soldier as you hunt down the next button. Ok, there was a (conceptually) nice snake trap and a short quadbike ride, but ultimately nothing really stands out in this level. Nothing besides the weird camera issues, that is. 30 minutes, 2 secrets. 12/19" - Treeble (09-Dec-2019)
"There are many bugs - blinking enemies and cameras show both sides of walls. The camerawork doesnt work. Textures are also somekind of blinking. I liked TR5-styled shootable walls and some objects from TR5. This is quite short level. Level has a lot of enemies (MPs and snakes). The level have somekind of idea but the bugs ruin total grade of level. Not recommendable." - vienna (02-Jan-2017)
"This didn't work out so well, for me at least. But, let's start with the positives. I liked the spooky snake pit and the brief, optional quad bike ride. Everything else just didn't pan out. Buggy, nauseating camera angles, invisible walls, little gameplay aside from shooting guards and repetitive lighting and textures. Not recommended." - Ryan (12-Aug-2016)
"Lots of crawling and a nasty camera (more a bug I think) in some of the rooms in this complex that made me quite nauseous. Be careful with your health, as the enemies are hardly ever alone. There is even a small bike ride you don't really have to do, but it is fun. There is also a nasty pit full of snakes and I found one invisible door in front of a gate. Fun level to do if you have some spare time." - Gerty (25-Nov-2014)
"An ultimately bland and quite glitchy base level, where we find ourselves essentially shooting every probable threat on sight(while collecting supplies/important items needed for progression along the way) and that's basically all there is to it, at the end of the day. With lazy texturing, dull gameplay, unconvincing lifeless level design, a concerning number of bugs and a generally lackluster presentation at the overall core of the experience, this is just another worthless release that you're better off skipping altogether." - Ceamonks890 (13-Oct-2014)
"It seems my first review of this level didn't find its way to this site properly, so here is a new version of it: It's my least favourite level of this builder. The looks are pretty amateurish, with wallpapered textures all over the base part and not very carefully applied desert textures either. Gameplaywise this level starts a bit slow with long passages to traverse and a fan Lara had to run through, but it turns into a halfway pleasant shooter level. I found the quadbike ride to be not very difficult but it was a nice diversion at least, the snake pit was a rather unnecessary detail though especially with that long block push. What I also didn't like were several of the bugs - like cameras going crazy in several rooms, enemies blinking in and out of existence (maybe because there are too many?) and the invisible walls that only appear when riding the quadbike, the latter feeling like a cheap trick to not let players kill the soldiers with the bike. All in all 25 minutes of below-average raiding." - manarch2 (23-May-2013)
"We are in a base. The main challange is the battle. We have to kill lot of baddies. The camera sometimes stucked me, I've just repaired it with the Numpad0. There is a better level by the author, but this worth for a little playing. Mainly if you like the battles. We finish the level with swimming. So it could be sequel. :)" - Obig (30-May-2010)
"This 30 minute adventure provides a rather bland setting of boxy rooms that are way too high and very little care went into texturing and lighting. But in its simplicity it does flow quite well, with plenty of guards to kill who drop vital keys. There is some odd camera behaviour in a few rooms, but the look key is your friend. The drop into the pitch black snake pit was a good idea but did not work out so well, especially with the tedious long block to push to get out again. 3 secrets found." - MichaelP (18-May-2010)
"As a basic shooter this works pretty well. Lara not only takes down lots of guards for pickups, but can return later and search the bodies for a second (or third) round of pickups. At the beginning of the level the bodies flash in and out of existence. Also the tracking camera seems to lag, though pressing the Look Key solves that problem. I think the bugs are from too many objects, since after Lara falls into a dark snake pit and shoots eighteen snakes the problems seem to go away. Lara can roar around on a quad bike to run over a guard, but the bike isn't really necessary. Basic construction, a few oddities, but still some fun here." - dmdibl (03-May-2010)
"Exploring the police area itself is much more entertaining than escaping from it. I admit that one has a terrible glitch, texturing is very basic, and has a stupid gameplay idea with pushing one box for minutes. On the other hand, riding the quad is big fun. Unfortunately, that doesn't make the level worthy to download. Still better than the Military Police Area Escape, but not enough." - rtrger (19-Apr-2010)
"The Snake Pit is the thing which makes this level - it's creepy, dark and sinister;and there's seemingly no escape from it! Once you've enjoyed this highlight you're left to ponder on the rest of the level, and in particular why the camera angles are so often distorted (and headache inducing);why many of the baddies keep disappearing mid-battle;why the Quadbike repeatedly becomes stuck in invisible blocks;and why every room is at least three times larger than it needs to be.Textures are wallpapered and there's no apparent lighting, hence the lack of atmosphere. It's by no means the worse Base level out there (the action gets pretty frantic at times),but there are too many bugs to make it properly enjoyable." - Orbit Dream (13-Mar-2010)
"A decent army base level , despite some annoying bugs. There is some doors which are not placed in portals but I don't think that in this case it explained all the times when there was strange and annoying cameras shots. Besides, there is also other bugs : I had to reload a savegame when an invisible block prevented Lara to progress with the quadbike , I could not quit the game properly (had to reboot the PC) , and sometimes both objects and enemies disappeared from sight, this bug was more funny than annoying. The absence of lighting plus the mood track that is not unpleasant but should not be used as a permanent audio loop ruins a bit the atmosphere. The level is not complicated to play and there are some good ideas not often seen in levels , such as the pit with all the snakes , or the slightly different panel you have to shoot over the ovens. Many enemies but enough pickups are provided. Despite the bugs, a level that is worth checking. [ 36 minutes ]" - eRIC (02-Nov-2009)
