Reviewer's comments
"Well, that was a bit pointless, wasn’t it? ‘Test level’, yeah I would agree, except what was being tested? The builder had already shown us in his Cold Chamber that he was perfectly capable of stacking rooms. So, was it water rooms? Was it…stairs? What else could it have been? Whatever; I have a feeling I’m not getting M@ster the levelbuilder quite yet, him and his unwholesome obsession with squelchy footstep sounds. (Though I strongly suspect it’s the default sample when you work with the TR3 engine, and the builder was merely too lazy to change it.) If your conceit is to get Lara up to a high place from which she then may perform a swandive, then you should probably make getting up to that place a tiny bit interesting. Maybe make the swandive itself a challenge, as Marksdad did in The Adventure of the Hollow Mountain. At least make the player work for it a bit, as Pascal Scherer did in The Lava Temple. Or make them work for it a bit more, as Mulf did in The Lost Mountains of Heroic Madness. None of this or anything else is happening here however, so it’s difficult to recommend this unless for the purposes of scoring a cheap review." - Mulf (05-Apr-2021)
"I think this level would have a potential to be a decent platforming level, but unfortunately the level was ended too early. Nice big pool tho." - Charles Kane (04-Apr-2021)
"The Vengaboys' song by the same name actually lasts longer than this level. Climb a few stories, collect a few pickups if you care enough (not that you'll ever need any) and then take a swandive to reach the finish trigger shortly after. 5 minutes. 09/19" - Treeble (29-Sep-2019)
"This level is exactly what the title says it is. Lara gets a shotgun, shells, flares and a large medi pack, none of which are needed. Footstep sounds are messed up up. Each step sounds squishy which was grating. Not recommended. More like a test level." - Chel (26-Oct-2018)
"Ok, I'm confused. What is this about? I guess it is a test with the editor or something. As the name of the level reveals: You climb up a tower, you fall down a tower, you swim through a tunnel, level ends! And while you do so, you pick up some goodies for no reason. Not a big deal at all. At least the author gave kind of attention to texturing and gave each floor an own design." - Nuri (26-Sep-2018)
"I wish I could have seen more out of this level. I suppose that instead putting time creating meaningless levels, it's time to think about something really different. Something that makes sense, actually." - Mehrbod (31-Jul-2018)
"Why take the time to actually build something as pointless as this? Two minutes and you are done and other than practicing your swan dive technique there is no point to this one." - Torry (24-Jul-2018)
"At least this time author used more texture tiles to decorate the square rooms, and also some pickups (why? Nothing to do with them). Here you'll only climb some steps up to a stacked rooms above and at the end jump to a pool and swim a bit. Nothing more." - Jose (04-Nov-2017)
"The title of this level describes it quite succinctly - you climb up a few ledges and climb down a few as well. There are no enemies at all despite being given a shotgun and medipacks, and most of the rooms were empty save for the holes/ledges to the next area. The only fun I had was diving into the pool at the end. Don't bother with this one." - Ejecta (14-Aug-2017)
"Climb up, pick up goodies, and jump to the water. I think that part was a bit exciting for me because I like jumping from high distances to water." - alan (22-Apr-2017)
"Well this level stays true to its title. Up, up, up and down. Visuals are shabby. Don't bother..." - Ryan (24-Mar-2016)
"The general experience offered here is pretty much as its alluded to in the title. You find yourself going up and down again, as you traverse from one barren, soulless area to another(collecting optional pickups along the way, if you can be bothered.) And that's it. Cannot be recommended, unless you're looking for a level to bore yourself instantly with." - Ceamonks890 (19-Sep-2014)
"Found this level boring. Textures were somewhat out of place and gameplay was plain. You can skip this level with peace." - Casual Raider (10-Jul-2013)
"Test level, I think, comprising several floors and less than 20 secs of swimming. There's nothing to find on the ground floor. You need to locate the stairs and pull up onto each of the following floors to find some items. Texturing is average. SUMMARY: Play this game only if have never seen any kind of stairs in your life, to learn the meaning of this word." - DJ Full (07-Oct-2010)
"A rather short level with non-fitting textures and too simple gameplay. Not recommendable." - manarch2 (12-Jul-2010)
"Very prmitive level. All in one climb up the roof and jump to the water. There are pickups too, but nothing important for you." - Obig (25-May-2010)
"Doesn't look bad. Lara climbs up stairs for shotgun, climbs up for ammo, pulls up higher for medipacks and flares. Lara swan dives into water and swims to exit. Might make an introduction to a level, but it isn't clear why this was released as is." - dmdibl (15-May-2010)
"This the first level I have played that took actually longer to download than to finish. Lara climbs and runs up, gets the shotgun and some ammo and dives into a pool. End. Maybe it should have been in the joke category, since the sound of Lara's feet sounded like as if she was in a swamp." - Blue43 (15-May-2010)
"The title says it all, going up, get a pick up, up again and again, back down and finish." - Gerty (12-Feb-2010)
"One of the most pointless level I've ever seen. Climb up, and swim down. And...that's all! Pointless and unfinished." - rtrger (11-Feb-2010)
"Less proficient than 'Purely Training', which the author also released at the same time. Not much to say about this one. Completed in just a couple of minutes, poor wall papered textures, non-existant lighting." - TheStig (14-Nov-2009)
"First of all I must say that I really do understand how new and budding builders are eager to have their work put out there for others to see. What I don't get is why they don't put them out onto the forums as screenshots to have people assess the level BEFORE it's released for people to play and rate. Surely it can't be much fun to achieve the lowest ratings possible? I can also understand that sometimes you get tired of working on the same level over a longer period of time, but in this case it's best to just let it lie until you feel refreshed and ready to continue working on it. Don't just slap it into a zip file and send it off for release. Although it can be ok for the players to earn a freebie in terms of the review count there is a limit for how much we like to see of huge, box-like rooms, stretched textures and lots of pickups that become redundant because there are no enemies or anything else around that can be a threat to Lara. One thing I've learnt is that it must be extremely difficult to set up a trigger that will end the level. That would explain why it has been left out in ALL of the half a dozen or so levels that I've played today. Oh, sorry about that. It hasn't been entirely left out in this one. The game does crash every time you approach what I presume to be the end though and that is almost just as bad." - Selene (25-Oct-2009)
"The title is almost a walkthrough in itself, as all you do in this quick 2 minute raid is climb up through three rooms, pick up a few goodies (or not) and dive down into water to swim to the finish trigger." - MichaelP (23-Oct-2009)
"This builder certainly doesn't deceive with his level titles. You climb a few flights of stairs, picking up a completely superfluous shotgun, ammo, flares and medipack on the way and once you reach the top you get to come down again, far more quickly, by jumping into some water. And once more, Lara sounds as though her boots are full of custard." - Jay (22-Sep-2009)
"Not much more recommendable than Labyrinth, the first room is nicely textured, but the looks go downhill after that , the texturing becoming repetitive and the rooms quite empty. And there is nothing to do in this level , the few pickups are quite unnecessary." - eRIC (22-Sep-2009)
"Although as simple as it's possible for Gameplay to be,the application of textures is pleasing.Pick-ups are wholly superfluous, however,as you'll encounter no baddies (which could have spiced things up marginally) and it's all over within a couple of minutes." - Orbit Dream (20-Sep-2009)
"Close to no excitement to be had here. As promised in the title, you do get to go up and down in a setting that vaguely resembles London. You can collect some ammo and the shotgun, but since there's no one standing in your way anyway, you can skip that part to just speed up to reach the end." - eTux (13-Sep-2009)
"Hm, not much to say about this one. Run up some stairs, collect the shotgun and some ammo, do some diving and the level ends. No enemies or decoration objects, but a strange mud sound on Lara's footsteps no matter what ground she is walking on." - Jerry (11-Sep-2009)
