Reviewer's comments
"Despite the repetitive texturing , the absence of lighting , and some benign design mistakes, it was a fun raid that succceded to get interesting the whole 15 minutes i raided here." - eRIC (15-Oct-2023)
"A very short romp through a 'Great Wall' style level. An adequately designed map with a focus on trap rooms makes for an entertaining playthrough of this mini level. Though it mostly feels basic and unimaginative in terms of creativity or setpieces. Textures and lighting are quite crude and it feels like the author cut corners in a lot of places so they can finish the project faster. Texture flickering and paper thin walls make a return and there are a few avoidable illegal slopes as well. It's a shame that this project is unfinished because I did ultimately enjoy my time here due to solid gameplay. An above average level that I can recommend to people looking for a bite sized adventure." - LuxQSD (27-May-2022)
"I downloaded this level with the firm intention of collecting all secrets, as a challenge for myself after reading the reviews. I found it’s impossible to miss the Gold Dragon, and I don’t know how some managed regardless. The Jade Dragon, on the other hand, is a good (if not particularly difficult) secret. I myself missed the Silver Dragon, even though I dived into the water (which wasn’t necessary for progression) and had a look around there. This was due to the usual suspects, sameness of textures and absence of lighting.
Even if you don’t find all three secrets, you amass an awful lot of ammo for only two tigers that you can kill at your leisure from across a body of water. (The only other enemy is one hostile crow at the beginning.) There’s one instance of uneventful backtracking through an underwater tunnel (featuring Treeble’s remarkable air pockets), but otherwise it’s an entertaining, trap-centred romp through a perfunctorily designed “Great Wall” environment—boxy rooms; functional geometry; some illegal slopes that should have been easy to avoid; you can reach the end of the world at the Jade Dragon secret because builder was too lazy to put another room on top of it. Still, the map is cleverly and efficiently constructed. On several occasions you get a glimpse of areas that are as yet out of reach. One caveat, though: the zipline doesn’t reset. If you somehow bungle the ride the first time through, you’re stuck.
Most of the traps are not particularly difficult to overcome (one rolling blade is set up in an odd way, rolling down a cliff and then going back and forth underwater), but there are one or two surprises along the way. The level manages to sustain interest until its strangely abrupt and unimaginative ending on a random block that Lara looks at—after acquiring the key to a Treasure Room you never get to see. There’s also a Maze Key, which caused me some concern when I picked it up, but while it is appropriately named, the maze turned out to be one of the most benign examples I’ve encountered. In terms of gameplay, it’s a huge step up from the builder’s previous effort. In terms of design, it’s a tiny step, more of a wriggle really. It’s a pity that the builder gave up on this whole Level Editor thing just as he had embarked on the path of the righteous." - Mulf (06-Apr-2021)
"Fairly simple Tomb Raider 2 level that takes around 15 minutes to complete. Pretty standard fare of hunting for levers and keys with the only enemies being two tigers. Graphics display the usual paper thin walls and the textures fade in and out." - Torry (27-Nov-2019)
"This is a 13 minutes long TR2 level that doesn't really have a whole lot going for it, aside from a couple of amusing traps, simple enemy encounters and the three nicely tucked away secret dragons. Scenery is crude and unattractively textured and the ending is so abrupt. Nothing to get excited about." - Ryan (07-Dec-2017)
"A rather simple and straightforward adventure with elements mostly from The Great Wall. Nothing too taxing as you quest for keys and levers and work your way to a treasure room, only to find out you're late - and you'll never know what happens next as the next level in the series was never released. A random thought: the author has provided not one, but two air pockets in an underwater tunnel that barely needs 30% of Lara's oxygen bar. How about that? 10 minutes, 2 secrets. 05/17" - Treeble (28-May-2017)
"A short 10-15 minutes adventure, which was quite fun but had no special "things". It is similar to the great wall..." - Nuri (14-Oct-2015)
"There was only one word that continually assaulted my mind while playing this level: uninspired. And it served as a persistent theme throughout my nine minute playthrough for the purpose of this review. Level design, texturing, lack of any decorative objects, traps and enemies nonsensically placed, dull gameplay, non-existent lighting/atmosphere... literally no aspect of this release has any real polish or care put into it and seems more like it was rushed out, purely for the purpose of having another level out under the builder's name. And it shows. While this isn't a release that I would classify as horrendous at the end of the day though, it isn't exactly a particularly gripping or memorable one either. So, can only really be worth recommending if you're incredibly bored with nothing else to do and/or need a quick level to play during your lunch break and nothing more beyond that." - Ceamonks890 (02-Sep-2014)
"It won't take you very long to get through this "The Great Wall" inspired level, but if you attempt it, you will find it has its moments. It's fast paced and not overly complicated, but the traps help to keep it exciting, and I have to admit, that I fell for the trick with the trapdoor above the rolling blade. The textures are applied decently enough, but don't really stand out for any innovative approaches to the setting, and the one pack of flares you find is completely superfluous, as the lighting is bright and practically untouched from what my builder's eye could tell. I liked the placement of the jade dragon, but I managed to miss the gold and silver ones. Enjoyable for a quick raid, but rather forgettable." - eTux (09-Aug-2011)
"A very short Great Wall based level, just as Great Wall Madness, with a variety of never a bit hard things to do. Few bugs in this level like non-working traps, and the rolling blade that goes diving also wasn't really a nice touch. Often traps weren't even a real trap as you can bypass them quickly or even don't run over them. Texturing was very simplistic and without much care. 10 minutes of little fun but don't expect much" - manarch2 (12-Jul-2011)
"This is quite enjoyable - a brisk 15 minute TR2 romp with the usual complement of slashing blades, roller balls etc., plus a couple of dragons to find (at least I only found two so perhaps I missed one as traditionally they come in threes). Enemies are merely a vulture at the beginning and a couple of tigers which you can shoot from across the water, so no problems there. A pleasant enough coffee break raid." - Jay (15-Nov-2010)
"Short, but good little adventure. A relaxation among the harder levels. But there are spikes, rolling balls, and three secrets, but I've missed the Golden Dragon somewhere. We have to find two keys, liner level, so hard to stuck." - Obig (29-May-2010)
"This level has more gameplay as his previous one. Still not top notch though, but fun nevertheless." - Gerty (09-May-2010)
"I had fun here and it looks attractive, using the Great Wall textures. Lara carefully avoids roller blades, and climbs up to open a door, for an added little surprise. I liked the runaway roller blade, and seeing it continue underwater. And Lara uses a zip line and swims for key and secret. Maybe unpolished, but short and pleasant." - dmdibl (27-Apr-2010)
"A quick 15 minutes run that is fast paced and fairly linear, with occasional enemies, a few switches and keys, a quickly navigated maze and a few traps to watch out for. It is let down by crude architecture with many thin walls, missing water textures and a very sudden end with a bare 'treasure room', but it is still fun to quickly run through." - MichaelP (19-Mar-2010)
"For this author's previous level I wrote "As far as gameplay goes, this is not bad for the 15 minutes that the level lasts",and that applies equally well here. The exteriors were clearly built in a hurry, and some of the traps are unintentionally amusing (the spiked wheel that trundles on merrily past Lara and eventually ends up at the bottom of a lake;the as-yet-to-be-triggered cicular blades that hang in the air);but it's always entertaining, reasonably well designed and I missed one of the two secrets - so it even has replay value.Unpretentious fun." - Orbit Dream (28-Jan-2010)
