Reviewer's comments
"I have a soft spot for Xmas levels, but I can't recommend this one. There's no proper gameplay, no objective, textures overused, and weird level design. Cute song, 5 minutes later I finish it. I don't even know what else to write about because this was incredibly short and lacking in all aspects. Skip this one." - Zhyttya (22-Jun-2022)
"Very short and easy this christmas level. You start off outside in some lovely snowy area with christmas music and snow falling down around you. Then to get started you have to look around the area for some items and a key to get inside a house, in the house there is a torch task and some items to find and place and then thats about it! all over in 10 mins unfortunately but i did enjoy the music and atmosphere and the textures were good" - John (30-Dec-2021)
"Script entry and door bug could be fixed considering this level took probably one day to make - it's five minutes and goodbye but I still enjoyed the soundtrack and managed to die in the pool. Recommended." - DJ Full (25-Jul-2019)
"Lara appeases a judgmental friend who will only let her in the house after she arrives with a wrapped present. Gameplay is purely exploration, there are no traps or combat, and the only "puzzle" is trial-and-error usage of a couple of items. It doesn't last long at all, not long enough to justify being released as a level. Decorative objects are used nicely. Immersion is decent enough to get into the holiday mood, and the architecture is functional (what little there is of it). Camera cues are used effectively. Textures are too wallpapered and a bit warped where uneven ground occurs, but otherwise functional. Lighting is decent and uses some different colors, but the fog is a bit too thick in places. Overall a very brief raid to get you in the holiday spirit. 5 minutes." - JesseG (30-Nov-2018)
"A sweet looking Christmas level but so short. Nice music, nice costume for Lara and that is it. Find a present, wrap it in paper, open door, light the torch, ignite an empty fireplace. It will however put you in the Christmas mood." - Gerty (08-Jan-2018)
"Short, too short. What we have here is a minute long level with a short swim, a tiny torch lighting sequence, a quick jump, a secret and a jaunty Christmas song. That's pretty much it and it's not worth the download as it might take longer to do so." - Ryan (01-Feb-2017)
"This is one of those levels that feels like it was used just to test what could be done in a simple Xmas level. It's remarkably short, clocking in at only about 5 minutes. It will probably take most players longer to read the reviews on this page than it will to play the actual level. Not to say that what we get is bad. The atmosphere is nice and festive, and the song is nice. Had it been extended into a full 30 minute experience, it could have really proved to be a charmer. As it is though, it's not really worth the download." - Xela (16-Feb-2014)
"Very short level, there is not much to do. Just think to combine two items to open the final door. The atmosphere is good" - Drakan (15-May-2013)
"I don't know if it's worth to download a level so short. Only a couple of tasks and when you begin to introduce yourself in the game, it finishes. The best, the ambience and the Christmas song." - Jose (28-Apr-2013)
"A nice enough level for the few minutes it lasted. I decided to play it without using a walkthrough, and I was amazed to find I didn't need one. The only task requiring just a little brain power was realizing that you had to combine two pickups to form the present that, once placed, opens the exit door. A seasonal hors d'oeuvre that barely justifies the time it takes to download and fire it up. Useful chiefly for beefing up one's review count." - Phil (28-Feb-2013)
"All fine here but a bit brief for a stig's taste. A few nice christmassy town locations with around 8 mins of gameplay. Suitabe for youngsters as there's no nasties to get you. Stiggy." - TheStig (02-Feb-2013)
"Not so special. The atmosphere was pretty good indeed, but there were quite a few texture mistakes, expecially in the house, that was the worst looking area of the game, and it had no sense, it didn't look like a living place. Also, why 2 fireplaces in one room? The gameplay was simple, maybe too much, and too short, and all what you need to do is collecting 3 or 4 items and use them in their obvious places. Another mistake was the first pool, the water in there didn't freeze like the second. I hope next year there will be a better level from this author." - Topixtor (04-Jan-2013)
"What I didn't understand is, why the word 'special' became part of the name of this rather short game. Lightning a torch, finding a key, combining a box and wrapping-paper to a present: that's all. Lightning, textures and atmosphere were not that bad, but mediocre." - Christian (26-Dec-2012)
"Kinda short for a Christmas level to be honest! Just when I was warming up, the level ended, oh well... I want more, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, we need levels that take at least 1 hour of game play, this level was over in 5 minutes, to bad I would've enjoyed it more if it was longer!" - young Lara Croft (24-Dec-2012)
"Ye gods, that was short. OK, it was sweet as well, but I was just settling down to enjoy myself when it ended after about five minutes. Lara just got to pick up a key from freezing water, light a fire and wrap a present. Oh, and find a secret. That's it really - a nice little Christmas taster, but I certainly wouldn't bother downloading it if you're still on dial up as I imagine it would probably take longer to get it than to play it." - Jay (22-Dec-2012)
"I guess it is the thought that counts, so what you get here is a very, very brief, but well intended little Christmas Greeting in form of a 5 minute custom level. Nice objects, a nice seasonal tune and a few simple tasks to accomplish, but it puts you right in the mood for the next Xmas level to play..." - MichaelP (22-Dec-2012)
"This is an attractive snapshot of a Christmas level, so the lower scores are mostly for its brevity and minimal gameplay. My first reaction was: Wonderful, a Christmas level, players won't have to contend with that cold water damage as in the author's previous level. Actually, there is cold water damage right at the start, but since there is clearly nothing in the pool, players can avoid it. Lara starts in a hazy snowstorm outside, gets key, wrapping paper and stuff in a few other rooms and the level ends. Even though this is brief, I wondered why a fire burns on a hardwood floor. Shouldn't the two fireplaces have had logs in them to burn? And a chimney might be nice. In other Christmas levels Lara puts a teddy bear in a gift box. Here Lara picks up a box and wraps it with paper, and my concern was whether there was something inside the box. There is a secret, but it seems part of the level. This is something to play while making a hot cup of tea or cocoa." - dmdibl (21-Dec-2012)
"'Tis the season to be jolly, so to celebrate this festive period, I decided to try out one of the newly-released Christmas levels. 3 minutes and 50 seconds later, I was ready to try out one of the other newly-released Christmas levels. I've seen a few people complain about the lack of Christmas levels released this year, but playing this I realised that I would rather play 1 or 2 great Christmas levels than 25 levels like this one. Gameplay is linear and easy, there's an easy secret, textures are okay, but the author really needs to learn about 'crack mode'. The only good thing about this level is the fun music track which, rather depressingly, stops playing once you find the secret. But don't be too glum, as you're only without music for about a minute before the level ends! To summarise, this level will really get you feeling festive, and leave you feeling festive during the time it takes to download a better Christmas level. 5 minutes, 1 secret." - Cory (20-Dec-2012)
"This appears to be a showcase of some tasks from this year's TR Forge contest and some design elements of the new Levelbase advent levels. Certainly a nice idea but really underwhealming when you regard the shortness of the level and that not much gameplay was added in this level (finding and placing some items, one short torch interlude) and that the surroundings aren't exactly pleasing, with mostly wallpapered walls, a bit careless object placement and a sound track that stops after finding the sole secret in this level. I would recommend to play this one before playing the other levels, as this one gives you (very) rough ideas what you'll get this year, and may get you in a nice raiding mood as you might get hungry on some more serious gaming experiences. 4 minutes." - manarch2 (20-Dec-2012)
"At 4 minutes, this has to be the shortest level I've ever played. I do think 2/10 is a little discourtious to the author, I mean, it doesn't take much effort to download it or play it, so should be rated higher. Anyway, the texturing is quite well done. I like the christmas wallpaper! the snow is custom designed, not just your regular snow, objects used look nice, we have christmas presents, decorations, trees, even ice covering the water. I agree with the others about the lack of gameplay, so much more could be done even with this small area, you wrap a present, light a fire, and open a door, that's about it. One secret to be found. There's an issue with the fog being too thick. Not a bad effort in my opinion but as I say more could be done with this." - sonnyd83 (20-Dec-2012)
"I had to play this diminutive Christmas level twice as I was convinced I'd missed something the first time around. It turns out that that was exactly what had indeed happened,as I managed to discover the one secret - which added a full ten seconds to the four minute level duration. The background music is charming enough;the objects are placed with a degree of sympathy;the crack mode should have been used once in a while, and the volumetric effects are unnecessarily over-done.Light a fire, insert a key and wrap a small present. As the meercats would say,"simples!"" - Orbit Dream (19-Dec-2012)
