Reviewer's comments
"In this remake there is possibly a few things that may be new (i don't remember this room in the Venice level with beautiful music where you monkey swing from a candelabrum) but i may be wrong. Anyway it is pleasant to play , except of course for the gunmen placed on the ledges of the canals shooting at Lara while she pulls up out of water : this is still very boring to deal with that. I think the builder could have been more inventive. I like the atmosphere in the Xian level and the lighting is good generally. The texturing could be better in some places but globally taken the areas look convincing. Good work." - eRIC (27-Jul-2020)
"I was really looking forward to see the rest of this remake... It's very well polished and detailed. Faithful to the original levels and very fun to play." - Adriel (25-May-2020)
"Except the secrets, placed in new locations, and some few and new rooms, the gameplay and the areas are basically the same than in another remakes. Of course, the architecture and texturization are quite good, the rooms well ornated and the enemies well balanced (I missed more ammo for the shotgun though), but after some dozens of TR2 remakes played, I think the players start to get tired about visiting all the times the same areas and do the same actions. I think Gabriel could use his talent to better build levels from scratch. Good work anyway." - Jose (26-Sep-2019)
"If people are tired of tomb raider 2 levels in level editor why they are playing them??? that's what I don't understand. No one is making you play it. Me, on the other hand, love them and here I'm playing another one. Very polished and detailed, I loved the remade areas and challenges. Some textures with issues but not so many. Recommended!" - Allicya (20-Jul-2019)
"At the risk of overkill, I'll repeat the sentiments expressed in earlier reviews by suggesting to all other builders out there, that if you're considering doing yet another TR2 remake - please stifle the urge. Or if you can't do that, at least start at the end and work your way backwards. Or better yet, maybe in the middle. That being said, I enjoyed this latest iteration of Great Wall and Venice, which provided some new twists and turns and was pleasing to the eye from start to finish. My only negative comment would be that since the builder provided the ammo for automatic pistols, he should have provided the actual weapon as well. Gameplay is fairly linear and not too taxing. Even the timed boat ride at the end of Venice was manageable if you slowed the boat ever so slightly before entering that narrow alley, to keep from banging against the side walls and losing precious milliseconds. Despite the fact that the market for TR2 remakes was flooded long ago, this one is certainly worth the download and the builder was wise not to let it fester unplayed on his hard drive." - Phil (08-Jul-2019)
"This Great Wall and Venice level is up to the standard of TR2 and the other remakes and it was very fun revisiting all of the areas of TR2 in a new way :D" - JoeTheCrazyGamer (07-Jul-2019)
"A remarkable remake of the original TR2 adventure. I have to say that this demo shall be a great start for a real remade game, and I am sure this game has its potential to continue. On the other hand, there are some flaws which shouldn't be forgotten, such as the bad pitched Lara SFX, too-lit rooms, and etc. . The main point is that some elements have been changed by the desire of the creator when it comes to comparing this adventure and the main TR2 game. Last but not least, I can't wait anymore to see the next game! Top recommended. Thank you!" - Mehrbod (03-Jul-2019)
"Despite the over-abundance of remakes of the Great Wall and Venice, somehow I always seem to be ready for another visit. This is largely familiar stuff, with just a few diversions from the original levels, but visually it’s a real treat. OK, we’ve been here umpteen times, but I enjoyed myself all the same." - Jay (29-Jun-2019)
"As always, you cannot fault the aesthetic strengths of this builder as this is yet another gorgeous looking game, with plenty of pleasing texturing and lighting flourishes. It's a shame though, that the main gameplay here is yet another rendition of the first two TR2 sections, with only a few very minor additions. Admittedly, piloting the speedboat around Venice hasn't lost any of its enjoyment and the way that the secrets were hidden and the placement of the enemy encounters were well thought out, but as a whole, it was a rather underwhelming raiding experience. That said, I did like the load screens between the two levels..." - Ryan (29-Jun-2019)
"A few rooms with additional (but never really immersive) gameplay have been added, but this game is otherwise little more than an attractive copy of the first two levels of TR 2. The builder has cared a lot for small details, and I really liked the load screens with those paintings, but after the probably 15th remake of Great Wall and lately also 5th of Venice even well textured and lit environments won't make me ignore that creativity - once more - has been neglected almost entirely. To all builders out there: Please just stop doing these almost 1-to-1 remakes, and better even any kind of remakes at all. There is so much potential for something entirely unique that just another copy is little more than a waste of time. Thank you." - manarch2 (28-Jun-2019)
"For TR2 fans only. I don't normally use such adjectives in my reviews but the first level was plain boring. The second level, Venice, is a bit more "creative" in re-doing a few things in different ways, even though not really ever enticing. The fact that there are loads of enemies is a TR2 feature, so that's alright. I say whatever's basically left of it is seeing how TR2 could look like with newer textures. It would look ok, I guess. I'll end as I started: for TR2 fans only." - Jorge22 (28-Jun-2019)
"I was very skeptical about this one but in the end it was both less ambitious and less annoying than Brad's so we got another worthy remake here, with some extra locations yet not overdone, some extra combat and yes overdone, and relocated pickups, mostly to better places (rare and appreciated phenomenon). The sounds are again broken and they have been through too many levels so bring it on and fix them already..." - DJ Full (27-Jun-2019)
"So this is again, one of many attempts of a remake for TR2 . This one does not try too hard to be cool and it's definitely not a bad thing . Right off the bat, you are greeted by a very similar build as if you're playing the original . Lara has got a new running and climbing animation . I wish the author had included the fast shimmy too but thankfully there are not too many places to shimmy so it's ok . Gameplay is not an issue and you won't have to second guess where to go since it's very close to the original except for some puzzles for a refreshing element added, so it's clear here that the author wanted the adventurer to simply have an enhanced experience by staying as true as possible to the origins . Textures are smooth , fitting and beautifully placed . When reaching the top of the first area, the only thing that was missing is the illusion of an everlasting view but instead you are simply greeted by a blue, plain texture . Some texture flickering occurred here and there but nothing too major to minimize the experience . Lighting is beautifully placed, fog effects and blurring at certain areas . Thankfully (for me at least) there are not many if any dark places that make it hard to go through . Enemies and secrets are very similar to the original . I do like the fact that the author went around details to create a more exploring atmosphere when trying to obtain some of the secrets . And extra lever here, a trapdoor that needs to open first etc. My favorite aspect of this demo is definitely the music and atmosphere . A beautiful selection of tracks was used in very appropriate times . All of them were not related to Tomb Raider but somehow fitting and on brand, and just when you're about to say that you want a classic ost, you get on the boat and you hear the Venice track playing . All around a very well balanced pack with minor errors that shouldn't be distracting you from the experience . It is recommended and it should be a relaxing ride for most TR fans out there ." - Zuxuna (26-Jun-2019)
