Reviewer's comments |
"As I had read some of the reviews before, I opted to play this one with the walkthrough
close at hand and thus the whole obscurity of some of the tasks did not hinder my progress
much and I got through it in just under one hour. But - nevertheless - this adventure, as
nice and clean and solid as it looks, still bears all the elements I dislike about a Home
level. Endless running around for a series of buttons and keys, little coherence as to why
one thing triggers another thing in a completely different place and general sense of
emptiness. If you do not mind these things, you will find this a very pleasant raid. And if
you like accompanying music, you get a wide variety of choices you can trigger throughout
the manor. For me though, I was glad when I finally reached the Jeep and could move out of
here..." - MichaelP (14-Jan-2024) |

"Surely one of the better manors which took me over two hours to finish (maybe I would shrink the size a bit). It's one of levels where I got more relax than frustration (was stuck for a couple of minutes with the crowbar since its resting room also had a switch so I thought it's cleared already). I just wish more shadows were used because it all looks too uniform, also objects tend to flicker so I think the level needs an update with bigger bounding boxes." - DJ Full (17-Nov-2023) |

"A bit of a step back to be honest here. It is maybe not the very classic home type level but has many ingredients of it, a lot of to and fro around a familiarly designed mansion which make the progression a bit dull, despite the nicely integrated story with the characters. There are also many pushables to use here, in general some gameplay elements are okay while others are not very exciting, for example the timed runs are way too easy to pass. Visually, the looks are much more clean than in the builder's debut but that is not always to the better. While there are little technical faults in texturing, they are rather monotonously applied on some walls and the lighting in the exterior areas and some interior ones, e.g. the attic, is excessively flat and sometimes even painful to the eyes. I also didn't like the object design in some rooms which feels sterile and not lively enough for an inhabited mansion, although the used objects were pretty nice. Anyway, not a bad level at all - just one that doesn't manage to impress with new ideas and great design - which took me 45 minutes to finish." - manarch2 (16-Aug-2021) |

"omg i loved this manor level, its a an original mansion which ticks every item on a
list of things i hope will be in a home level (i love home levels) you've got a
gorgeous main hall, stunning pool room with lighting to die for! some tight timed
runs inside the house then a new gym with traps! great! then another timed assault
course with traps which i loved, aquariums, hedge maze with adorable pushable gnomes
and just too many other goods things to mention. the mission of the level is to find
winstons lost watch and it starts off and continues with finding keys, items,
switches to open up more rooms, doors etc but the puzzle underneath the hedge maze
was just great and its a big level with loads to explore, now unfortunately its not
perfect due to the fact id say theres a little too much block pushing for me and this
level would be impossible to complete without a walkthrough because theres just too
many items and objects disguised as switches, same with pushable items etc, i really
liked the music very relaxing to explore in but by the end id had enough of the main
theme music and was getting too repetitive but theres loads of great music in from
past tr games as well to give you a rest from it. there has been so much care taken
in some rooms in terms of detail with texturing and lighting and objects and check
out the lara statue in the garden! haha, we have spiders and bats as enemies and
really for me the only thing missing was maybe a vehicle to ride in, excellent level
please play if you like home level like me i had such a great time" - John (30-Apr-2021) |

"This level makes its gameplay intentions abundantly clear from the very start, with
the notorious 'Toaster Switch that opens something somewhere' - except that,in this
case,it doesn't actually open anything;because you need to find a second lever (which
has the temerity to actually look like a lever) to use in conjunction with the
Toaster Switch in order to make that aforementioned something happen. Elsewhere you
will encounter a multitude of 'pushables that don't look particularly
pushable';switches disguised as things that don't particularly look like switches;a
'cupboard object' that can't be opened, nor can it be pushed;but which can,on the
other hand, be entered (even though it doesn't look like that's possible) provided
Lara does a forward crawl. The only 'puzzle' that actually makes proper logical
sense is the 'shovel and earth' sequence;everything else happens in that way that it
does, simply because the builder has decided that it should be so.Provided you have
the power to divine the builders mind,OR (more likely) choose to follow the
Walkthrough every step of the way instead, you should get through this level in around
75 minutes. It's really very decent otherwise: the voices (particularly Winston's)
are entertaining;the music is interesting;textures are well placed;lighting does its
job;and the Mansion has been creatively and adeptly constructed. Everything is above
average in all but that one crucial area,in other words." - Orbit Dream (21-Nov-2020) |

"I'm usually the one complaining about dark levels, but there's nothing in that respect here
to complain about. Everything is brightly lit, to the extent perhaps that the surroundings
take on a rather garish quality. Moreover, the looping music, although pleasant enough, gets
on your nerves after a while, especially since it lets up only for the obstacle course
segment when we get instead a burst of Jeep music. And speaking of the obstacle course, I
found that to be one of the most exhilarating parts of the entire level, not because of the
tightness of the timing, but because of the frustration getting past those spike traps.
Sure, it's a house level, with most of the familiar trappings you'd expect to find in a
house level, but it's a fun raid when you have the walkthrough close by so you'll know where
the phantom tiles are, which lamps act as switches, and where you need to dig. You get your
pistols fairly late in the game and need them to complete certain tasks. The only enemies I
recall were a single bat and a single small spider near the end. I took my time and spent a
little more than an hour here and had a good time." - Phil (04-Oct-2020) |

"As usual, not very agree with the other reviewers. I never liked the mansion levels like this, where you only need to go from room to room pressing buttons, looking for keys, find concealed objects that work like switches and thinking about where to use this or that item (ex: where to use the shovel?). The environments are nice to explore and, at least the hedge maze was not very nasty, but definitely this level was not entertaining for me. I appreciate the effort, but I'm sorry for my comments." - Jose (07-Aug-2020) |

"Here we have crates to push, spikes to dodge, and of course a watch to recover. Gameplay is mostly a hunt for various items, with a few puzzles, most of which I enjoyed. I wasn't a bit fan of the room full of pushable boxes, because it was hard to figure out what the goal was, and the boxes were inconsistent between solid versus not solid. Texturing is a bit wallpapered, of course this is a house level so this is only more noticeable in the natural areas. The lighting is flat in a few areas, but nice and colorful in others, particularly the underground places. I appreciated the crypt areas, which diversified the level and made for a brief change of pace. The use of interactive and decorative objects is great. Overall a charming house level. 1 hour 30 minutes." - JesseG (22-Jun-2020) |

"I have found on here Home levels are usually really good or
really bad, with no in between. This one was really
good. I enjoyed playing it so much however i have to say
I did enjoy Wise's debut level. But all in all its really
good. 36/40" - JoeTheCrazyGamer (17-Jun-2020) |

"Every once in a while, along comes a mansion level that I actually enjoy. This is one of them. From the opening scene in which Lara tells Winston that the fact that he keeps losing his watch is why he’s not allowed out of the freezer very often I settled down to have fun. The mansion is based on the original one luckily (although completely new and much, much nicer) so there aren’t vast great areas to explore. The storyline is lucid and gameplay is interesting. Unlike a lot of mansion based levels, Lara isn’t in the midst of a home invasion (just a couple of builders inadvertently wrecking the electrics) so enemies are minimal and just what might turn up in an ancestral pile, i.e. the odd bat and spider. Even if you normally avoid mansion levels like the plague, do give this one a go, it’s lovely." - Jay (10-Jun-2020) |

"I must say, it made a pleasant change to play a home level that tries to mix in a bit of a challenge for the player, despite none of the tasks being inordinately difficult. This is quite the thematic shift from Search for the Hidden Stone, with the graphics being light and bright all round. Although the lighting is rather similar and the textures could use a bit of tweaking, the overall look is quite eye-pleasing. There's a fair bit of backtracking present (as is the norm for levels of this genre) and there was an odd walkthrough glitch with the gnome puzzle (already mentioned by Jorge), but nothing game breaking and the assault course timed run and lever puzzle near the end spiced proceedings up. A neat touch was the secrets being familiar artifacts from official TR games. I enjoyed it, despite my usual aversion to Home levels." - Ryan (05-Jun-2020) |

"I asked for *cleaner* and I got *cleaner* - a lot
cleaner, in fact. It's a mansion level, something that's
always a bit risky regarding possible ratings. And
basically peaceful (Lara doesn't have the pistols she so
needs during most of the game). Lara's humble abode, in
spite of getting its inspiration from the original, looks
like it's been designed from scratch, which is good.
There's a lot of exploring to do and background music
throughout, but it doesn't get very annoying, especially
because it's Tomb Raider based instead of some merry-go-
round tune. I found all five secrets, a rewarding feat,
and I particularly enjoyed the one after the outdoors
timed run along the training course. I did find one or
two glitches: the door to the attic closing again for no
special reason and crossing the dwarves like a ghost, for
instance. Having a hard time finding the right spot to
use the shovel is a classic (and it's the obvious place),
so that one's not on the builder. And I did find a few
red herrings, namely in the pushable boxes room, where I
was led to believe I should place a box under every
fleur-de-lis, which I did, and in the attic, where it
definitely looks like the boxes are to be placed under
some very clearly marked spots. It's also possible to
jump out of Lara's bedroom balcony to the area with the
workers before the entrance gate is open, which shows
that maybe no thought was given to that. By the end there
are a few bats and spiders, as well as traps or, at
least, trap environments. All in all, it was basically
well crafted and enjoyable. And I'm also glad it was fun
to build." - Jorge22 (01-Jun-2020) |

"A very cozy, beautiful version of the classic manor of
Lara . I appreciate that the manor is created from
scratch . Let's begin with the story of the level . You
start off in the kitchen as Lara (AgentXP) talking to
Winston (voiced by DJ which, c'mon it can never go wrong)
. You have the task of finding Winston's lost watch .
Right of the bat, I see rather large scale rooms . Having
such large rooms can be a tricky situation cause they can
feel empty without a proper usage of wads . In each room,
you are greeted by a stereo that will play various
soundtracks from Lara's adventures which is always nice
and brings nostalgia to the table . I like the version of
Lara's gym , which has some deadly traps that you
wouldn't normally see in a manor level . I guess Lara
needed to amp up the danger huh ? Some interesting
puzzles up until this point BUT I can't help but mention
the push block puzzles (boy oh boy don't you just love
those) that always take unnecessary time from the
experience . Some times runs are included that are not
very hard to complete which is a plus . Another issue I
had at times is while pressing some of the triggers,
there is no indication of what it did or where to look at
. So some camera hints would have been appreciated . Some
of the interactable objects are not easy to recognize so
you might end up pressing action on stuff at times (there
is a specific item in the construction site garden that
took time to find when it shouldn't have) . Also to
mention a nitpick, items at times start flickering in
void which could have easily been resolved . Atmosphere
is serene and joyful mostly . Lighting is almost not
existent . The rooms would be elevated tremendously with
some shadow/light bulbs . Lighting is always so fun to
look at . Textures are nicely done, not much to say
about that . And lastly, the secrets are well placed
without any absurd hidden placements that wouldn't make
sense . Bonus points for adding artifacts of past
adventures as the secrets . Overall a lovely , chill
adventure from Wisey ! I hope my constructive criticism
isn't too harsh and will help you grow further as a
builder, rising to the potential you truly show ." - Zuxuna (30-May-2020) |
