Reviewer's comments
"A quickie , under 10 minutes , somehow inspired at the beginning by the TR4 tutorial, then it unfolds to be a lot more ... simple than this. Thus you don't accomplish much here , where many of the enemies can simply be ignored." - eRIC (04-Dec-2023)
"I reckon the builder of this game was in a very bad hurry, due to the fact that everything about this level was messed up. The textures, the lighting, I mean, everything, was not in the place where it supposed to be. Repetitive triggers made you to put the controller device down and run away from the game to be honest. Loads of bugs with the cameras, as you could easily break the camera, hence you could yourself into a big trouble very easily. Unfortunately, I lost my motivation to play this game again. Not recommended. Thanks!" - Mehrbod (13-Feb-2019)
"A very short Tutorial level with not much to speak of gameplay-wise, some simple enemy attacks and adequate environments. There are a couple of looping flyby cameras too, but you'll likely hardly notice and it at least looks different from the original layouts." - Ryan (05-Dec-2017)
"Again my apologizes. This days I'm very thick, I don't know what happens with me, and by another error I sent my review for "Tut Ankh Amuns Legacy" to the level "The Silent Oasis" so I'll post my review for "The Silent Oasis" here. I'm very sorry again. Not very silent that oasis with all those enemies. Lineal level easy to play but a lot of defects especially in the texturization; very elongated and/or stretched textures, missing textures, too colorful textures... The enemies are not well balanced and usually you'll need to shoot many at the same time; many times the objects trespass the walls; paper walls... There is an effort with the flybys to create atmosphere, but the final one doesn't have the “one shot” button and repeates itself continuously; at least the control of Lara is active. Not interesting tasks, not enough ammo for shotgun and uzis... A vulgar level." - Jose (09-Nov-2017)
"A short (13 minutes) settomb level with a nice story. Lighting is mostly dark and there are no flares scattered. The only enemies you encounter are 2 scorpions, mummies and 2 ninjas. You find an eye of Horus, and other pick-ups. A little longer would've been fine. It looks like the author won't continue the series as this was created 16 years ago." - alan (30-Sep-2017)
"Just another Egyptian debut level, with decent texturing and lighting serving as the main positive aspects here, while every other design aspect was not given nearly as much attention. Give it a go if you're looking for something easy to review." - Ceamonks890 (11-Jul-2015)
"For a Tut1 debut level of its age, this has a least tried to look a bit different, even if it does bear many of the hallmarks of an inexperienced builder. It's short (ten minutes), very easy and basically involves finding two eye pieces and shooting a couple of scorpions and ninjas." - Jay (11-Apr-2015)
"Here one plays an interesting variation of the Tutorial level. The first both rooms correspond to the Tutorial level, indeed, with other textures. For the rest the level builder has used his own ideas. But he has not always worked carefully, because one sees on occasion stretched textures. A few Flares would also not have been bad, because it was sometimes a bit dark. The Level ends after Lara has used the eye of the Horus. the play time was 15 minutes. Opponents were two Baddies, scorpions and a few mummies. Result: A little bit briefly and not carefully enough worked, but, nevertheless, quite well for the level hunger occasionally." - Scottie (06-May-2009)
"Very simple short level with a lot of problems one being a looping flyby because you can move Lara during it. For me making Lara stand still until it's finished didn't work so I just had to keep running along and keep pressing the look button to gain control back of Lara. It very much a tutorial level with settomb textures that are very dark and busy. However I do like the tall room with monkey swing across the ceiling and water below it was the most pleasing to look at." - CC (15-Oct-2004)
"Well it's not that bad! Alright so those fly-by cameras are rather irritating but the texture set is well chosen; the lighting nicely applied and the architecture is occasionally clever. I enjoyed it for the time it lasted and look forward to the proposed sequel 'The Abandoned Tents'; although seeing as how almost three years have elapsed since the announcement and nothing more has appeared I think I'm in for a long wait." - Orbit Dream (04-Nov-2003)
"Very short level in which the author shows he can stack rooms. The one with the curved ceiling and water below was good. Unfortunately with the fly-by's everything goes wrong. During the fly-by it's always best to let Lara freeze ie that you cannot move her or let her do something meanwhile. Not here: if you accidentaly hit a button during the fly-by you have the chance of getting stuck because the camera's trigger gates to open: touch a button before the fly-by ends and it's bye bye progressing in the game. Nevertheless the richness of the textures was used to the full here though some may say it's too full of textures. All in all an author who wants to put drama in his work but better trains a bit more with the camera's to achieve maybe a masterwork in the future who knows." - bERT (27-Jul-2003)
"Ten minutes of easy game play. The only puzzle is the Eye of Horus in an environment that looks like the tutorial level but with slightly different textures. Two ninjas at the end and mummies plus some scorpions are your enemies the shotgun and Uzi is given to you. I liked the way the last door opened so that Lara can exit the tomb. A nice try." - Kristina (10-Dec-2002)
"A very short (under 10 minutes) Tutorial wad but at least this author went to the trouble of making it look different changing textures atmosphere etc. Trouble is it's so dark and I found no flares at all. You need to go up a staircase chased by mummies and down a staircase chased by mummies with a water room thrown in for good measure. Lara needs to collect the 2 eyepieces to escape into the light and I was so happy to get away from the dizzyingly nauseating flyby." - Momster (19-Aug-2002)
"12 minutes of linear fast paced and easy fun that starts out in the oddly textured tutorial premises. Two mummies two scorpions and two ninjas are all you meet so I didn't bother to monkeyswing to some extra ammo on the other side of the pool. Remarkable here is that the fly bys are triggered again and again and Lara can still move; so that gives you the opportunity to walk out of the picture which is quite funny. You can see how far you get without knowing where you are. Collect the two pieces of the Eye do a long climb and exit; that's it basically." - Dimpfelmoser (18-Aug-2002)
"I thought this was a good try for a first level. The textures seemed to be a blend of those from the tutorial level and those from Seth's tomb and it was a bit dark in areas but nothing was hidden in the dark so it wasn't too bad. It only took me 12 minutes to get through so it was fairly simple and consisted mainly of collecting two halves of the Eye of Horus and opening a few doors and then towards the end I was attacked by two ninjas but I had found both the shotgun and the uzis so they were easily taken care of." - RaiderGirl (26-Jul-2002)
"This is an extremely short level at only 10 minutes and unfortunately there isn't that much to do but easily locate the two halves of the Eye of Horus place it and finish the level after some quick combat with a couple of ninjas. Texturally this has quite a uniqueness about it that stands it apart from all the other Egyptian styled levels but it was just a little dark in places." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"The first level of the author as the readme states but you can easily see that anyway. Virtually every bug all of us level designers went through in early stages can be found. You name it he got it: waferthin walls water without texture falling through the floor Lara control not disabled with a flyby that opens a door etc. The gameplay is simple with one small 'puzzle' and the textures and lighting seem patchy and often out of place. I liked the area with the water pool and the rounded roof with the face like texture but that was about the only really remarkable thing about this level. It is over after 10-15 minutes and one would hope the author will improve his future levels to come." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This 13 minute level offers no challenges and is way too dark in places. The object is to get both pieces of the Eye of Horus and place them in the door to basically exit the level. In one spot there was a bug which as Lara went to vault up onto a ledge she 'fell through' the ledge and was stuck there forever behind a column." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a 10 minutes level that doesn't hold anything besides some stretched textures and a bug with a door. Lara has to find the Eye Of Horus pieces to find a sarcophagus and finish the level." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is extremely simple without many places to go - and lots of bugs as Michael specified. Though simple- it was totally enjoyable for some weird reason. It's enjoyable because it's a level which you don't have to crack your brains or rapidly shoot- it was smooth and flowing I wasn't stuck anywhere I just 'flowed' with it. Also a good point is the extraordinary texturing it was really eye-catching. The lighting was dark in some places- and it added a lot to the feeling. Of course all that lasted for about 10 minutes..." - Yonatan (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a very simple level. A little dark and with not really much to challenge the gameplayer. Some of the flybys are very annoying: especially on the stairs where it occurs every time Lara ascends or descends leaving her at the mercy of zombies." - David (21-Jun-2002)
"First level by Peter and you can see that. That doesn't mean it can't be a great one. After playing some "shoot everything in sight" I liked this level because it was very easy. Game play is straight forwards and I liked the roof at the pool." - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
