Reviewer's comments
"Egyptian...what? Egyptian what? Egyptian darkness, that’s what. Plus one of the lesser known Egyptian plagues: the curse of symmetry (four ramps, four pools of water, four pushables). Otherwise: rooms to large, pointless pickups, couple ninjas; and a whole lot of tedium crammed into its short running time." - Mulf (31-Oct-2019)
"Short, basic raiding in a classic setting. Not at all badly made, but nothing really exciting happens either and I was rather annoyed at the somewhat overdone darkness in a few spots. I also found the textures a bit repetitive and dull in quite a few places. A few ninjas and scorpions to shoot, a couple of statues to push, a bit of climbing around and that's pretty much it. There's also a LaserSight provided, but for absolutely no use at all." - Ryan (17-Jun-2018)
"In this level textures are applied repetitively. It's hard to notice some openings due to that. Gameplay is just about finding some levers, shooting scorpions and ninjas, finding two halves of a cartouche. According to the story, Lara is looking for that cartouche only to use it and then get out of there. It's very dark in places and I only had 3 flares. Not recommended." - alan (01-Feb-2018)
"A very easy and linear level where you have to find two pieces of a cartouche. There are very dark tunnels and rooms but only a few flares. Very average level." - vienna (12-Sep-2016)
"A very easy and short level in which your only quest is to find and join together two pieces of a cartouche. Enemies were only blue ninjas and scorpions. What I didn't like about this level is that most of the time it was dark and you only have to cope with the three flares you begin with." - Gonxii (17-Nov-2015)
"Twenty minutes of simple raiding in an Egyptian setting. Nothing much worth mentioning in despatches but fairly decently made and if you fancy a short simple exercise in shooting ninjas and scorpions and finding two cartouche pieces, go ahead." - Jay (05-Oct-2015)
"Not worth to play for me this short level, simple architecture, monotonous texturization, no flares to light the way, a couple of levers to pull and an artifact to place, shoot a bunch of scorpions and several ninjas, what the revolver ammo was for? No puzzles, black rooms, no secrets, huge and empty rooms with no objects (well, perhaps some statues); the only task is move a couple of statues to clear the way and run/swim to find soon the end of the level. Boring." - Jose (03-Jun-2015)
"Here is a good example which also short levels must not necessarily be bad levels. Lara must flood a water basin, find both parts of the cartouche, push a few statues and is after 20 minutes already at the level end. Opponents were some Baddies, scorpions and a mummy. Though the level is short, but is well built for it. There are no stretched textures. The lighting feels well, only two small places were too dark, but the three Standardflares were completely sufficient. Result: Who searches a small and good level for occasionally, makes a find here" - Scottie (05-May-2009)
"This is a good example of how an author can make a decent level , and make it hardly recommended to play because of a bad and poor lighting. I had to add flares to be able to go through the 20 minutes it takes. The level starts in a big room with a symmetrical structure at the center of it , and from where you have to escape. This was a good concept. The rest of the level is a bit less interesting , although I quite like the cartouche that appears when you push the 4 statues , and the ending section in a big water area is even more disappointing." - eRIC (30-Nov-2008)
"Now, I know it's a extremely short and standard tut1 level, but you just can't deny it's nicely crafted and polished (well, it is in comparison to a number of levels I've played between last Saturday and today!), most of the rooms follow a very logical design, although it can become boring, and even though you have multiple paths to take, they all lead to the same area. After picking the two pieces you swim a little, pick up the lasersight for whatever good it will do and leave. 10 minutes. 01/07" - Treeble (31-Jan-2007)
"It just goes to show with a little thought you can make any room look great. Very early is a huge hall with slopes sloping towards the centre of the room in the shape of a cross with four pools in each 'section' look impressive. Around the walls were corridors and ledges to get you up on top. Further on are more large rooms with simple and effective structures. After that it's a matter of lighting and texture application in this case the tut ones so the thing I remember most is the look of the level. Gameplay is quick and easy with a handful of enemies. But I did get the impression that there could have been more to do that I hadn't been everywhere that I didn't get to push all those statues around in fact it could have been a lot more involved. Huge potential totally underused space so it could be classed as a demo more than a full level." - CC (15-Oct-2004)
"A few things disappointed me here. I loved to play this level but there is little difficulty. It's a nice simple level but most of the places are dark without any flares around to use and only two objects to pick up. Now why does Lara need the lasersight if the level gets to the end one minute after... better to call this level a demo I think..lol." - Yoav (10-May-2004)
"I was most impressed with the striking architectural design of this level (an area which Richard Leedy elaborated upon more strongly in his rather good follow-up level) and with his appreciation of the 'draw distance' limitations of the LE. In fact the first 10 minutes or so of this little adventure could easily be described as 'breathtaking'. Unfortunately the remaining 8 minutes could equally easily be described as 'mundane' and 'disappointing'. In short the level has a great start but then goes nowhere. But it does at least go nowhere quickly!" - Orbit Dream (07-Mar-2003)
"That went very quick too quick if you asked me. Just getting into the game so to speak. Nothing much to do than getting the Cartouche. Nothing more to find than some weapons and a medpack or two. Enemies scorpions and ninjas. That is all. The lay out was very nice indeed as you start of in a big room with four pools (one is empty and in need of water). Then you come to another big room filled with water and from there just find a way out and the level ends there. The game is a tad bit too dark could have had a bit more lighting and although I did like the look of it all it was rather empty of gameplay. 18-12-2002" - Gerty (22-Dec-2002)
"A very dark level that thankfully only lasts 20 minutes with no flares to be found anywhere. The central room was nicely done. The object here is to find two halves of the cartouche and then exit. Pretty standard fare I'm afraid." - Torry (09-Sep-2002)
"I was really surprised when this ended abruptly after only 17 minutes cause there were so many corridors and areas I've never been to. Not to mention all the movable statues I've never touched. This is pretty common tutorial material and yet I found this fast paced exercise fairly appealing and there was something there I don't know what exactly that sets this apart from all the other tutorial quickies. A solid setting if a little plain at times an unchallenging gameplay and yet I enjoyed this for the time it lasted." - Dimpfelmoser (20-Aug-2002)
"As the name suggests you find yourself in a quite darkly lit Egyptian setting (recognize the cleopal WAD textures). It starts off quite interestingly making you find your way through the structures and rooms there are scorpions and ninjas to kill but it then turns out to be quite linear as it progresses and it has a very sudden end after 20 minutes.“ - Michael "The main thing I can say about this 20 minute level is DARK. I'd like to say it had glorious textures and lighting but...you couldn't see it. You start out wondering what to do in these 3 giant square pools of water that have absolutely nothing in them. You will soon find your way to a lever which fills another area with water which has a tunnel in it. Seems the main objective here is to find 2 halves of the cartouche place it and get out. There are not many pickups in the level found a laser site and some ammo for uzis shotgun and revolver but I found no weapons. Probably because it is so dark and I did not find one pickup of flares. A few scorpions 1 mummy and some ninjas with guns are your enemies." - Momster (13-Aug-2002)
"This level seems somewhat darkly lit even when it seems it shouldn't be and that always detracts from the actual game to me with a great looking large room that you start in and an awesomely immense watery room that you finish in neither was used to its potential especially the last which is just a shame as the mind boggles at what could have been it's quite fun throughout but finishes quite quickly and maybe that is the reason that I feel the loss at the emptiness of the final room." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)

"You'll start this level in a BIG room that at first makes you wonder what you're supposed to do. After a little exploring though you're on your way. Your objective is to find the two pieces that make up the cartouche and use it to progress further into the level. You'll find the regular Egyptian style textures used here and not many puzzles but a few interesting jumps and a few ninjas closer to the end. The rooms were way too dark for me and I spent a lot of time looking through the binoculars - I didn't find many pickups here. This a shorter and fairly easy level but great for those of us who don't always want a super hard level." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"A quite dark and short level. You begin with filling a pool with water to be able to go further to darker rooms and finding only a cartouche you end the level not long after. In between there are a few scorpions and baddies as well as some corridors to find your way to the upper level of a huge room. More water and baddies and that's all. The textures though are nice nothing wrong as far as I could see. It would be good if the author took advantage of that atmosphere to put a few puzzles in there." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002)
