Reviewer's comments
"Just another egyptian level which is a remake from the TR4 level, only that I felt as if it was another normal level set in Egypt. There are some baddies and scorpions to kill. I thought I had to find the 2 canopic jars in order to proceed, but no, after you find the first, you need to use it to get the second one. There's also a lot of backtracking, so I'd say it's just another average level." - alan (05-Sep-2020)
"It's a nice little level back to Karnak. Some backtracking like this long shimmy over the pit that must be done several times. Some ninjas and crocodiles without much difficulty to eliminate. 25 minutes and 1 secret to finish this pleasant level." - Drakan (24-Nov-2018)
"Nice to be back in Karnak again - I rather enjoyed this one. The setting is pleasing and the flybys well done. The search for the Canopic Jars is on, as Lara has to avoid ninjas along the way. Certainly a competent remake." - Ryan (12-Dec-2016)
"Looks like Jay, Jose and I are on a crusade to get these older levels played and reviewed before old age catches up with us. Here's another classic Egyptian raid with moderately challenging gameplay and a bit more required backtracking than I like to see. Lighting is good, so you can see everything, and the enemies are the usual suspects. I got through in a little more than 35 minutes, and Harry Laudie's walkthrough got me through the occasional rough spots. It's certainly worth the download." - Phil (16-Nov-2016)
"I really rather enjoyed a visit to Karnak - this is based very much on the original TR level and looks good. The gameplay is not a copy of the original and involves quite a lot of ninjas and scorpion shooting, but there's plenty of action aside from that. Nothing difficult to achieve - perhaps a bit too much backtracking, but the enemies are quite well placed and not overly used. It's a pleasant enough 30 minute raid if you like the Karnak setting." - Jay (04-Aug-2016)
"The environments are well created, and there's a good architecture, but the gameplay involves a lot of backtracking, forcing you to run long distances through the same places. Also I was very disoriented 'cause I thought I must get two jars before come back to the place with the receptacles, but I was mistaked. In this sense, the author could place a camera pointing the door opening to get back to the starting area when picking up the first Jar. The secret shotgun appeared too late, only useful to shoot a couple of ninjas before the ending; the remaining features are similar to the Karnak level, but without puzzles. Playable but not very enjoyable." - Jose (12-Jan-2016)
"A simply competent remake of the Temple of Karnak from TR4, that's somewhat merged in some aspects with the Great Hypostyle Hall and Sacred Lake levels from that respective game. Texture and lighting use, enemy and music choices, gameplay tasks you need to accomplish... it's essentially identical to the original Karnak series of levels in many areas(minus the cutscenes). However, unlike the original TR4 levels, the actual level design itself is mostly different, involving you traipsing back and forth several times in order to get some canopic jars and be able to retrieve the Amulet of Horus in this level for some reason, before leaving via a new route opened up to you and having the level end. Overall, nothing too out of the ordinary by today's standards. But will still provide a relatively fun raid of around 27 minutes, if you're up for it." - Ceamonks890 (04-May-2014)
"Not too much of a remake , except for the arrival , for the puzzle with the underwater mirror room , and for the area where Lara can walk on water after placing the canopic jars. For the rest , the author has well captured the essence of what Karnak ruins should be, it could have been much more atmospheric with a decent lighting. As for the gameplay it is rather pleasant but with some uneventful backtracking at the end. I really like the flyby showing the ninja running and going into a hole with a lot of style , that was brilliantly executed. [ 28 minutes / 1 Secret ]" - eRIC (08-Aug-2009)
"It may be a heavily altered version of the original Karnak prj but it's actually highly enjoyable and very competantly 're-designed',with a good sense of timing for the enemy attacks, some interesting water and lighting effects,well-caught atmosphere and a smooth flow to the gameplay with even the occasional puzzling bit thrown in. No classic, but it's a very fine way to spend half-an-hour." - Orbit Dream (18-Jul-2008)
"This is a variation of the original Karnak level that is technically well done, but holds not much surprise (except for the follow-the-ninja camera flyby). Lights are okay, very blue water looked cool, well placed enemies. To make this passable level a good level, it would require more originality instead of sticking too close to the TR4 we already know." - Ruediger (08-Feb-2008)
"It's a remake of the original Karnak level especially the room with the canopic jars and the solid water. The start is also the same with scorpions and ninjas around and your goal is to get the two jars and the Amulet to open the final gate. I found one secret after getting the first jar and finished in thirty five minutes." - Kristina (16-Sep-2003)
"A blatant Temple of Karnak rip off with many aspects being identical to the original. You are on the hunt for two canopic jars to retrieve the Amulet and except for a chasm to negotiate this is a simple somewhat tedious level that will take all of 30 minutes to complete." - Torry (22-Jan-2003)
"It took me some time to realise that this was a remake and even then I thought it was very entertaining till the end. There were a few new ideas there were there?! Good placement of enemies solid texturing neat camera angles atmospheric lighting; can you ask for more? Well what like a real challenge or an original gameplay. Sod off and play Devil's Lair then. If you want half an hour of nostalgic loitering you can't go wrong here and the underwater mirror is great. It would have been even better if Lara could have admired herself in it." - Dimpfelmoser (24-Aug-2002)
"I am a lover of TR4 Temple Of Karnak and I enjoyed this level as well. It starts with the same rooms but later it's completely different. Lara has to shimmy across a deep pit to get to the other side to find the first canopic jar then I don't know why there was a secret lying behind an opened door? and after placing it it was quite simple. I didn't understand why Lara has to place the Seth canopic in the receptacle near the Horus textures. No real problem - I really doubt anyone ever noticed this... It was a nice 20 minutes adventure though." -Treeble (26-Jul-2002)
"This level uses the Karnak WAD and this is pretty evident as some of the initial areas including the water freezing room puzzle are quite similarly laid out as in the original Temple of Karnak level. The aim here is to locate the 2 canopic jars to freeze the water and then retrieve an Amulet which although only took me 35 minutes seemed to take longer and made good use of the tightly spaced indoor and outdoor game environment with back and forth progression. This isn't a fantastic level but it definitely kept me busy and interested while it lasted." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"The resemblance with the original Karnak levels was so evident that I checked three times whether the WAD was converted correctly. Still it is a solid level with a few nice camera shots like the one following the ninja. Nothing out of the ordinary but a good half hour of fun exploring with a few scorpions ninjas and crocodiles to battle." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"The level is very similar to the level 'Temple of Karnak' of TR4. I have found a secret and no bugs. The necessary time to end it is about 45/50 minutes." - Boris (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a well done Karnak level that reminds me a lot of the original. The puzzles aren't hard but there are a lot of places to explore as you search for the two canopic jars. Once you place them you are given access to the ankh and the final door opens. The many pickups help with the enemies mainly ninjas and crocs as they like to jump out when you least expect them. Highlights include the underwater mirror room freezing a pool of water the reach in switches that put out a flame and the great camera angles." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"Very short and similar level from TR4 Temple of Karnak. Find two canopy jars to get the Amulet and in between shoot some ninjas some scorpions and two crocs. There is one secret although if you don't find the jars you can't access that secret. Nice level for in between the hard ones. Very pleasing was the lightning of this level. 24-05-2002" - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
