Reviewer's comments
"Short and easy level set in an icy environment (a good change from all these Egyptian levels!). It's not bad per se, in fact, it's pretty entertaining for the short time it lasts. You kill guards and also transparent scorpions, which are much easier to kill with the handy jeep. The texture sounds have been applied correctly, and they sound a bit different from the normal ones, which is something we gotta give the author some credit for. Then something funny happened here: I left the jeep parked on the ice while I went to open the gates to proceed, but then I also triggered a rock that broke the ice and now I was unable to get back in the jeep because it was now floating in mid-air! LOL. I wasn't going to proceed on foot so I reloaded. There's also one little mistake here: Lara's hat mysteriously disappears whenever she's shooting! 🤣 The second level or part is just a simple climbing exercise before reaching the top and grabbing the artifact (make sure to choose the right one or else you will die!)" - alan (14-Mar-2023)
"I've finished this level in less than 10 minutes, so it's a pretty straightforward, blocky, big, kind of beginner level. I appreciate the usage of trigger cameras, so I knew where to go. The scorpions are absolutely and should be, avoidable. They are nothing but an annoyance and you will eventually run out of medipacks if you decide to fight them. The first icy area is deceiving, was stuck there for a minute or two. The camera work is a bit odd, but it is nice to have a roundabout of a new area, it also makes the playthrough more enjoyable because this is not necessarily the game you'd like to explore in detail. You find the stone, you pick up the correct one and the game ends. It even closes the game for you, so you don't have to manually exit it. To cut it short: I don't recommend it." - Zhyttya (03-Jul-2022)
"At a very early stage in custom level history, this oddity took the notion of boxiness to an entirely new level. Judging by the reviews, its main attraction at the time were some retextured objects (Lara and SAS in matching camo outfits; big scorpions textured to look transparent à la TR2G). It certainly wasn’t the gameplay, which is a thing that this level impotently gestures at with two lazy trial-and-error ‘puzzles’ (one in the beginning, and one at the very end).
The evidence of the level itself, however, suggests that the builder’s overriding interest lies in creating flyby sequences, of which there are quite a lot for such a short level. A pity, then, that he soundly and thoroughly mucked up the one intended to show off the level’s centrepiece (a large iron bridge that you pass across within seconds, and which serves no other purpose). The others are surprisingly well done, though; few builders ever make use of the FOV option. Of course, given the builder’s pronounced lack of interest in room design and, well, everything else really, they don’t and indeed couldn’t show anything more intriguing than Lara in another box. More’s the pity." - Mulf (09-Feb-2018)
"Rather underwhelming, this level although I found the icy textures to be nicely used and I'm sure it wowed players back in the day. There's not much else occurring other than gunning down guards and running down giant scorpions with the handy Jeep. Aside from these, there's a minor block puzzle and some climbing around, but not much else." - Ryan (02-Jul-2017)
"This author and I have something in common when it comes to Tomb Raider aesthetics, and that is the fondness of windowed or see-through textures. Views into other rooms or larger areas is always an aesthetic I love in the old Tomb Raiders, so that's what drew me to this. I gotta say, it's a painfully dull level in almost every category. Gameplay and puzzles were very basic, but there was a degree of creativity with that first pushable block on the narrow icepath, as well as the ice scorpion encounters. Otherwise nothing interesting to do. The ice scorpions were a serious pleasant surprise considering the amateur nature of the level, their appearance really wow'd me, hadn't seen anything like it. Still, the lack of objects, other notable enemies, and secrets in this level probably lent to its overall dullness. Many of those super empty rooms could've been made much more interesting looking just by adding some objects. Sounds were kinda annoying (but well-done for the ice scorpions), atmosphere was meh, and cameras were very awkward. Lighting and decent texturing were practically non-existent, except for the nice use of the ice and see- through textures. Overall, this is a super passable level. However, I can't say I had a bad time with it either. If anything, it gave me a few nice moments with the ice visuals and handful of shock encounters (spikes under first pushable block, ice boulder, ice scorpions, spikes under artifact), but still left me wanting something with much more substance." - BHM Productions (13-Feb-2017)
"Short and simple. The idea is good and the ice scorpions effective, but the gameplay is very unengaging, involving killing a few guards and a jeep ride, which takes care of the scorpions. The atmosphere is quite effective but there's just not really enough going on to entertain even for the approximately 10 minutes it lasts. Nice to see such an early level branching out a bit though in terms of genre." - Jay (12-Sep-2016)
"I didn't quite understand why this level was a two-parter as each took 5 minutes to finish. Even combined they are very short. Anyway this level had a lot of potential 'cause the visuals, atmosphere and sound effects are good but it was wasted by simplistic rooms and lack of any gameplay. You just keep going from a square room to a square room without any path left or right and pull the occasional lever. Paper- thin walls were another mistake throughout the levels. Icy levels are relatively rare so if you are bored of the sands and cities you can check it out, but it is nothing special." - Nomad (11-Sep-2016)
"Sure that another players thought something about this too: why link so short levels and not release only one level? What's the hint to know where to place the moveable block? What's the hint to know what lizard stone you can pick up at the very end? Simple architecture with very few objects, paper floors, no puzzles to solve, no extra guns but the jeep as a "gun", no pickups, no secrets... I liked the use of cameras and flybys, and also the texturization is good, but not enough to create an entertaining level." - Jose (22-Feb-2016)
"A very short raid , even if divided into two levels , with not a lot to do , except for flipping a few levers , a fight with a couple of gunmen with appropriate camouflaged outfit , another fight with a couple of translucent icy big scorpions, and a simple journey with the jeep where you have the leisure to drive over a little army of other big icy scorpions. The snowy leopards were funny as at one point they became stuck like statues. The highlight of the level is only visual with a very well made metallic bridge under which Lara drives. As for the rest, the looks , despite some appropriate transparent icy textures, are not too great , with wallpaper effect texturing , thin walls , and a flat and bright lighting, or rather absence of. Worth a look for the few different things you can find here, but consider this level more than a demo." - eRIC (24-Jul-2009)
"This was a little better than the last level, although it was a lot shorter. The only gameplay to offer here is driving, climbing, shooting and jumping - there isn't much in the realm of puzzle solving and the final part of this level involved climbing and not much else. There were two crystals at the end. Collecting one of them crashed the game, the other ended the level but everything went weird!! The text in the menu was different and everything had a red tint to it - even the flyby. A bug maybe or intentional?????" - Necro (25-Feb-2009)
"I appreciated this level because it conveyed a Tibetan atmosphere (it reminded me of TRII). This level is well-built, but I found it too short. I appreciated the ice textures, the bridge, the invisible scorpions, the retextured SAS soldiers and the ice spikes. It was interesting to see the boulder crash in the icy pool. It was surprising to see the two leopards run away and the eagle fly overhead during a flyby sequence. I also noticed how an invisible scorpion can kill an SAS soldier during a flyby sequence. Gameplay mainly consisted of pulling switches and pulling one pushable block. There weren't any pickups (except for the artefact at the end), but I didn't need to use any medipacks, and the jeep made the showdown with the five scorpions easy. Luckily, I picked up the correct artifact on the first try at the end of the level. I found one minor bug (when Lara shoots, her hat briefly disappears), but it doesn't disrupt the atmosphere of this level." - Sakusha (09-Jun-2006)
"After reading some latest reviews on this level, I decided to give this one a bash myself and I wasn't disappointed as I really enjoyed this little level of game-play. There is nothing too tedious to accomplish during this adventure, its pretty much straight forward and linear in game-play and your only task is to find the jeep keys and eliminate some baddies with guns and fighting off some ice scorpions, which was in itself well worth seeing. Most of the enemies were fairly easy to eliminate, as you could run most of them down when driving your jeep. So after a bit of driving and pulling some levers and doing a bit of climbing on some climbable walls to finally reach and collect those precious artefacts, you unfortunately reach the end of another fine level. On the whole, there is nothing hard about accomplishing this little adventure and I think it would suit most beginners who are entering into the TR world, which would enable them in getting accustomed and to seeing how these custom levels are laid out and getting them used to doing the various moves which are required in completing them, to then venture onto some more difficult and more complex levels with more puzzles and challenging tasks. The layouts and textures were very well done and nicely applied to suit this artic and snowy environment setting." - Gill (09-Jun-2006)
"I started this ages ago and while chatting with Ian I found out my game was bugged as I was so stuck with that jeep. So downloading again now the download was corrupt. And after some epics I had been playing lately I was in need of a short level. So... this time around I could get it to play and even finished it. Not so fond of ice levels and this time Lara was dressed for the adventure. I hate to shoot the leopards but actual the leopards probably wouldn't be killed as they never bothered Lara as did the vulture. Best part are the use of transparent textures even with the scorpions. 05-06-2004" - Gerty (06-Jun-2004)
"Unlike the author's first level this level actually has some gameplay worth speaking of. Still the gameplay isn't that interesting. It mainly revolves around finding levers and killing some enemies. The enemies are easily avoidable though. The texturing is quite nice and the level starts out good but in the second part you can easily see that the author lost interest. The level ended after seven minutes which means that it was even shorter than the author's first level. Well at least it was more fun to play." - Magnus (29-Jan-2004)
"What a shame this is so short. Gameplay wise it's find levers run shoot drive. I really liked the Tibet environment. It's the elements that stand out the snow leopards that run through a wall the eagle (I think) slowly flys away giant ice scorpions (transparent) one gunman I shot but the other ran away. I also did the jeep parked on ice thing first time. I liked that iceball that breaks the ice and leaves the jeep floating in midair. I liked the block puzzle near the start that killed me a couple of times. I thought the bridge looked great but the flyby needs a sedative. The scorpions from here on can be run over with the jeep. Great atmosphere and lighting. Too short." - CC (19-Oct-2003)
"It's what the title says. A level in ice with nothing to do except pull some switches and open the way to proceed. Nothing remarkable in it you get the jeep and drive through also do some climbing and finally meet big scorpions. It just looks so empty and boring. Ten minutes of running driving climbing and shooting." - Kristina (04-Jul-2003)
"Well this is a very simple and short level with a good icy atmosphere. I can't write so much about the very linear gameplay. There are no Secrets and there isn't any single pickup in the whole level except the two 'Ora Daggers' at the end. You can't get stuck in this level although some puzzles offers the 'sudden death' experience so try to be lucky. The soldiers and especially the 'ice-scorpions' aren't so dangerous if Lara has the jeep. Anyway I found funny that we can arrive into the 'scorpion-chamber' with or without the jeep. Without the jeep those beasts could be very tough but if we have the jeep then they are no problem. I chose this easy way first but later I tried to leave the jeep in the air (as Michael did) and I killed all of scorpions by using the pistols (it needs some medipacks). From the rest viewpoints the level wasn't bad: good atmosphere with the TR2's textures from Tibet some nice flybys Lara looks good in Her 'TR5-Russian' outfit some 'enemies' who know Lara very well and so on...My final advice for this short adventure is very simple: download it if You want... :)" - Sys (17-Mar-2003)
"That's it is it? 112 (or so) rooms and it's over in around 15 minutes? Well it begins alright with some good camera positions and a few invisible scorpions; and then the designer clearly gets bored with the whole thing and winds it up very quickly. Two leopards did a runner instead of going into an attack; a bird of prey flew off likewise; a well-built metal bridge served little purpose and wasn't even shown off to good purpose in a horrendous flyby; and then it ends. Decent atmosphere and neat scorpions but that's it." - Orbit Dream (27-Dec-2002)
"This has great potential I think. Brilliant atmosphere nice camera angles and fly bys (save one) lovely textures creepy enemies and a fun drive across the bridge. Unfortunately it only lasts for fifteen minutes and apart from one moving ice block it's more or less a question of pushing levers. Also in the second part the author seemed to have lost interest in his creation as the rooms become quite plain and boxy. And if there had been only three big scorpions one might have actually been tempted to put on worth a fight." - Dimpfelmoser (11-Aug-2002)
"Even though it's a fairly simple with just a few levers to pull and a pushable block puzzle I found myself really enjoying it because of the great atmosphere and the textures used from the Tibet levels of TR II. Other things placed in the level made it a lot of fun too - parking the jeep on the ice to see it float the snow leopards put in a brief appearance but run away from me so I don't have to kill them the eagle flying overhead was nice the invisible textures everywhere were fun driving the jeep over the giant scorpions was great and I liked the little house set in the valley. And I can't forget the battle with the giant scorpions near the end. The only thing that I thought needed some work was the flyby of the bridge - it seemed to have some serious problems. This was a great level though and I hated to see it end after only 18 minutes." - RaiderGirl (22-Jul-2002)
"What I liked about this level was not the gameplay as that was simple but the great texturing or should I say non texturing of not only the one boulder in this arctic level but also the 8 or so giant scorpions 5 or 6 of these in one room that I could either take on with my guns drive over with the jeep or run I pulled out the guns and starting blasting! There isn't much else to this level but to pull a few wall levers shoot a couple of SAS dressed exactly as Lara in pale camouflage outfit and climb some walls to the end. There is one bug however that I found I parked the jeep on an iced over pool and then pulled a lever that released a boulder and this smashed that ice leaving the jeep floating in mid air with no way of getting to it and even if you could you can't drive on air but at this point you don't need it although it can help with the pack of hungry scorpions I spoke about a little earlier. 15 minutes and it's over." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"With a nice camouflage outfit for Lara you enter this indeed icy world. Freezing atmosphere a few nice camera angles 'invisible' giant scorpions and rolling balls and really nice transparent ice textures make this short 15 minutes level a pleasant experience. Try parking your jeep on the ice that is shattered by the rolling ball and you will have it floating in the air - cool but I guess unintended effect. Loved the eagle flying away and like all the other reviewers I ran away from the five scorpions attack and was then lucky enough to pick the right crystal (which is actually the left one ;-) )" - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"A very simple linear level that will not take you 15 minutes. There were no real challenges here except for when you came across five giant invisible scorpions with only your pistols. What to do? Run like hell. LOL." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"A graphically beautiful level in TR2 style with a puzzle much original but unfortunately too short 15 game minutes. Lara has to find an artifact hiding in a cave among the ice but first she has to find the key of a jeep and kill or better invest some SAS guards and big ice scorpions." - Boris (21-Jun-2002)
"This was a short 10 minutes level that was fun. The texture sounds were carefully edited. And the enemies were beautifully texturized as well: the SAS are using snow camouflage (just as Lara) the giant scorpions are invisible like the TR2 Gold monks. The level was fun had a jeep ride and the second part had a bit more action than the first. You have to kill (or run away that's what I did) 5 giant invisible scorpions at once then some climbing and jump action. On the final room you have two choices. There are two Ora Daggers on the floor. One takes you to death the other is your reward! Get the original one and you're done in this level." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"A very short level about 15 minutes to play it looks more like an experiment for me. Not bad but for me is not enough atmosphere in this ice world the author uses a lot of transparent textures for nearly everything a rolling ball also and a lot of big scorpions who are easy to kill by driving over them with a jeep. No challenging puzzles when you push a lever the door next to you open and so on I have found no secrets. It's worth a look anyway" - Freeman Porter (21-Jun-2002)
"Very short level. A few icy creatures to destroy or avoid. A jeep ride. Gameplay easy." - Fairy Godfather (21-Jun-2002)
"Little is to be done in this level. Opponents appear and disappear again also vultures and tiger. The big scorpions were also no problem. The transparent objects were not also the yellow of the egg rather the whiteness of it. Naturally I had to try out tombraidergirl's tip and park the jeep on the ice this was actually the single climax in this level." - Xxenofex (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a very very short level. You have to get through an ice world. After a short while you'll find a jeep. And you will encounter some of the baddies wearing the same camouflage as Lara. The scorpions are nearly invisible which gives them a very icy touch. The riddles are mainly using levers which are not hard to find. Be careful not to loose your hat while shooting and also do not park your car on the ice unless you want to have a good laugh." - Tombraidergirl (21-Jun-2002)
