Reviewer's comments
"Extremely short level. You open doors until you reach a dead end. No enemies, or secrets (that I know of). I liked the TR3 Lara model that was used, though." - alan (19-Mar-2023)
"It's incredible how this level managed to take a so bad mark showing nothing that terrible: I mean, have we seen waffle walls? Nope. Have we seen stretched textures? Nope. Have we played a game? No. Gameplay and enemies are absent from the level. And we are left in some sort of silent limbo from which no exit is found ('cause there isn't any finish trigger too). Pretty meaningless despite not showing something noy entirely bad. And ... I got stuck in the vent because in the end, a toggle opacity 2 was applied instead of a 1. Wolfy Regards." - Wolf7 (27-Jan-2019)
"Perhaps it should be a good start for a VCI-type level, but only for a start. A few corridors with some switches to open doors is not really a level. Playable, yes, but when the player expects a larger room with something to do, there's no more gameplay. Only an attemp of a level." - Jose (05-Jan-2018)
"It's not badly made, but it'll not last more than 5 minutes. It's basically door opening mania until the missing finish trigger. A short review for a short level." - Ryan (05-Dec-2016)
"Three minutes is brief even by demo standards, so it's perhaps hardly surprising that gameplay is almost entirely absent. Run down a few corridors, throw a few switches and fail to find a finish trigger. It's reasonably solidly built, albeit a bit boring, in a VCI style but, apart from a rather nice camera angle showing Lara from outside the building, there's not a lot to get excited about." - Jay (16-Sep-2016)
"At first I thought that final door will open if one sets a correct 5-switch on/off combo. I had no time for search for such solution now, so I didn't mind using Fexinspect in this case. Anyway, it appeared I was wrong - and the problem is weirder than it seemed to be: one needs to remain on trigger squares for that door to work properly. What is more, it looks like all the doors are delayed here... I've seen this bug before - in "Aldwych Nightmare". But I really don't know what causes it (will need to ask someone on the forum). Anyway, it definitely affects gameplay negatively - I read I wasn't the only one to assume that door doesn't work. Still, searching for those switches gives some raiding fun - I think it happens thanks to placing a gun next to one of the switches and applying a nice camera by another one, what prevents this puzzle from becoming repetative. This little achievement is unfortunately the only one we can notice, as the level ends just after that puzzle. There is nothing more ingame, except several nice-looking pipes connecting some metal structures (vents?). I didn't like the background sound (weird, as for a VCI game). SUMMARY: The trigger bug prevents many from finishing the game. If one doesn't encounter it, the game lasts for 4 minutes of nice texturing and fine lighting. Too short one, though." - DJ Full (21-Jan-2011)
"Main thing in this level is spotting five levers. Not very interesting to play but some nice textures here. Try to make it to the last door in under one and a half minutes, if you want." - manarch2 (27-Oct-2010)
"It is a pity which has become no full level from this demo. I like VCI level. Well, some of the textures are stretched a little, but I am quite sure that the level builder this would have done. The clothes look good, I have already liked this in TR Chronicles. However, the demo has got a little bit briefly and because of the missing Finishtrigger I have wandered about a little bit in search for a switch for this door at the level end. However, as a demo the level was ok." - Scottie (18-Mar-2010)
"A "demo" that can be completed in 3 minutes , if you spot all the switches immediately that need to be opened in the corridor over the trapdoor. There is a bug in this level, which is explained by the author : you have to stand a few seconds on the square after activating the switches otherwise the doors or the trapdoor will propbably not open. I had a look at the prj of this level, and the author has included a finish trigger but strangely it does not work in game ? Good looking VCI setting. There is no enemies and I like Lara "TR3" model." - eRIC (23-Dec-2007)
"I have followed bERT's instructions but I have only managed to pull one switch which hasn't triggered anything even after waiting for at least 4 seconds. This author needs to learn how to send his files because instead of helping people install them properly you have to figure out the installation process for yourself. The first two rooms have VCI textures which are well-applied and Lara has a TR1/TR3 look because of the catsuit and the fact that she held her hair in a bun instead of a braid. The shotgun has been retextured and it looks like an HK gun which has no use whatsoever. Even though I have only been able to get a glimpse of the level (due to a few technical difficulties) I think this author has some potential. Tomb4.exe crashes when you exit the game however." - Sakusha (15-Aug-2004)
"Despite including a rather cunningly concealed Switch (which could have garnered a 'one' for Gameplay) I penalised this level with two 'zeros' as I disliked the way the Author couldn't be bothered to compile the relevant files and made the expectant player do all his work for him for what was nothing more than a short demo. He didn't even include a finishing Trigger. Nice to look at though." - Orbit Dream (18-Aug-2003)
"This took longer to install than to play. Three minutes in it and all you will find is a few switches to open doors and the HK gun. No puzzles no enemies nothing. Obviously it's something like a demo or a project. It could be a good level if someone bothered to use the WAD. It has a VCI kind of setting and Lara is wearing her cut suit. Not worth the download if you are searching for something good to play." - Kristina (24-Jul-2003)
"Forget this author's installation guide. Just do this: rename the four files with RedAlertLilKid in the name by replacing 'RedAlertLilKid' into 'city' and then convert city.TOM. Start the game and choose City to play that's it. No mumbo jumbo and you get rid of the nauseating arrogant readme file (shame on the author!). For the game itself it is no game just a demo in which the author shows talent for (a) creating nice VCI corridors and (b) good static camera placing. It's a mystery why this chap did not make a real level with this talent!" - bERT (07-Jul-2003)
"The hardest challenge about this level was installing it. And when I eventually got it to open I had butts all over the place so it was for me unplayable. But I can say that it looked really good. This is probably the first non-review review ever!" - CC (27-May-2003)
"It took me longer to install this level than to play it. And looking at the date it was released the author knew much more about the TRLE than I as he made one and I never have. Even with everything written down how to do it it didn't work so I was glad that I could use the TR4 file provided by Torry. So for me I already was peeved and it only got worse. On the upside I can put another notch on my 'have reviewed' list. What a waste as it does look more like a demo and I still have the feeling that I missed something. 11-01-2003" - Gerty (18-Jan-2003)
"Dear reader of this review. This exe file level was made available to the humble Mac player who writes those lines by Torry the benevolent chap from Down Under. He also put The Temple of Horus up for download on the same day and I read the reviews of both levels in order do decide which to play first. Then I went to work and when I got back I started with Tower Block A as this was supposed to be the shorter of the two. One minute into the game I found the MK5 and then I remembered something from the reviews along the lines of: You'll meet all kinds of enemies but it's no problem with the MP5 you get. I then spent ages in this level to find those enemies until it dawned on me that I got the reviews mixed up and that there must be also a MP5 to be found in the Temple of Horus while Tower Block A has neither enemies gameplay nor a finishing trigger. There is one nice camera view from the outside of the building though." - Dimpfelmoser (28-Nov-2002)
"Well this level was harder and longer to install than to play it. I believe there's no finish trigger and you can get to the supposed end in 5 minutes. It's a short level nice as well. The little time you play it you find nice textured areas even if without lighting effects. With a bit more work this could have turned into a better level and also there's no use for the HK Gun as there's no enemies in the level - just a few switches to push and a nice camera outside the building but it caught things it shouldn't. Give it a try if you're curious." - Treeble (22-Sep-2002)
"The hardest thing about this level is the installation and I don't think that it is very nice to make the player do all the things the author was too lazy to do himself. But there really isn't much to do in the level too you just find a useless HK gun (no enemies in this level) running around in a TR3 catsuit and pulling a few levers with the wrong animations. I ended in a kind of hallway with a texture of a door but I'm not sure if the adventure ended there. So I'm not completely sure that I finished this level but since there was nothing to do I didn't even bother thinking about it. You can give this a try if you want a 3 minute look of a VCI level... and if you can install it." - eTux (02-Aug-2002)
"I'm not sure if I missed anything because it sure feels like it. It took me all of 3 minutes to finish this level ending in an airduct where the only possible progression point was a gate that wouldn't open and when I ran Lara into it she didn't keep running which tells me it is not a functionally opening gate. Before this all I did was press 5 switches and pick up one gun which was useless as there are no enemies. If I have missed something though I will re-rate this level otherwise all I can say is 'I just don't get it!" - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"This is more like a demo and plays for about five minutes featuring a nice TRC catsuit outfit and Lara without ponytail the HK gun and well applied VCI textures. All you have to do is pull five levers and you need to be a TRLE expert to get it installed correctly in the first place." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This as the author indicates is a VERY short level more to show off the VCI type textures and Lara's sexy black cat suit (a la Chronicles). The level itself really gives you nothing to do but to find a few switches and observe a nice camera fly-by from outside the office building. I do hope the author continues on and makes a worthy level as this certainly holds promise." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"I'm hoping this is just a demo of a project James is working on because everything looks really great. The textures and the outfit are from the VCI levels in Chronicles and are very well done. However apart from pulling five switches in this five minute level there is nothing to do here and although I found one gun there are no enemies. The camera is used well with some interesting angles that are very subtle yet show off the environment well - my favorite was the view from outside the window. I'd like to see some interesting puzzles in the final level and not just a lot of baddies the switches need to be fixed and please make it easier to install! I couldn't have played this if Torry hadn't sent me the .dat and .tr4 files. This could turn out to be a great level though and I hope he finishes it." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
