Reviewer's comments
"The level in itself isn't that bad but man, there are more butts here than in GTA 5." - alan (18-Mar-2023)
"This is what happens when a builder doesn't know how to use a tool to merge objects from wads: parts of Lara's body floating everywhere. Apart from this, the gameplay is based only about look for two keys and use them, shooting only two wild pigs and a croc. The outside rooms are very bright, and there are not flares to light the darker basement rooms. I found a lot of bad placed objects, showing parts that should not show to players, paper walls and floors and another minor defects. Not really enjoyable this level." - Jose (03-Jan-2018)
"Hmm...another level full of butts. Not that much to do and if you discover the blatant shortcuts, the time you spend here will be even shorter. I took those shortcuts and ended up with a gem but no key so I couldn't end the level. But whatever, it's hardly worth it." - Ryan (11-Dec-2016)
"Aaaargh, another plague of Lara's bums all over the place. Otherwise, it's a fairly typical coastal village setting, replete with the usual enemies, although in small numbers. As the game only lasts for a maximum of 15 minutes (unless you stumble upon shortcuts), there's not a great deal of variety. There are far better coastal outings to be had." - Jay (15-Sep-2016)
"In my ongoing quest to play all the earliest levels I have encountered several undoubted gems which I had previously missed for no apparent reason;but this level was one I had avoided specifically because it was so bad.Unmarked climbable textures;a walkthrough wall;and butts absolutely everywhere. For all that,it's at least possible to reach the Finish Trigger (a feat I accomplished after 10 minutes or so)and there's a bit of shooting to do to occupy your attention, but it can hardly be recommended for those two things alone.Unquestionably,a 'review and forget' level." - Orbit Dream (26-Jul-2013)
"Actually, the level can be finished normal way. But(t) I agree there are lots of shortcuts, e.g. a walkthrough wall in one of the corners. And if you get on the roof, you can explore almost every place in the level starting from there. But I really liked this option. I treated this as a reward for finding a hidden way to reach the rooftops. And it was nice to see this little city from the "sniper on the roof" perspective. It felt rather like Medal Of Honor (without any soldier) this way, but was still a bit interesting. If you collect the first secret, the next one doesn't count. But all in all, there are two of them to find. For gameplay, it's average, but boring - we find too much pits to get in and out. I don't like it, so I give only 1 point. Puzzles are average - keys, doors and a marked tile. SUMMARY: Standard coastal episode, playable to its very end and you can try it if the pits and butts don't repulse you, to walk on some roofs. But just as eRic already said - there's a better version of the same game around. Keep it in mind." - DJ Full (28-Oct-2010)
"There is no need for you to play this level which should be called Buttland : play Search for the knight's gem instead which is an extended version of this level which can't be finished the normal way. I stumbled by accident in the walkthrough wall that permits to reach the undergrounds , while you are supposed to go there after finding some key and use a jeep which of course are not provided here. I found the knight's gem but not the key that allows to hit the finish trigger, anyway I have seen all what this level was supposed to offer." - eRIC (09-Aug-2009)
"I guess there's not much I can say that hasn't already been said. It's basically a 5 to 10 minute romp through coastal inspired settings with an addendum of Lara's butts. There seem to be inklings of what could've been good ideas with the right care and effort put into them, but as it is they don't amount to anything much more than killing the 2 boars, the crocodile, collecting the trident, the gem and using the 2 keys to reach the finish line. Not abysmal, but you could do better. Found 1 secret. I wonder what the footsteps were about, though?" - eTux (28-Jun-2008)
"No WAD provided so you're left with a lot of hips around. There are lots of floating objects, most of them are in fact, and not much to do other than pick up a couple of items along the way. There was one walk through wall that was not marked as such (and funnily enough, I only approached it because it looked like an unmarked climbable wall). 10 minutes, 1 secret." - Treeble (31-Aug-2007)
"There are parts of Lara all over the place the texturing is mediocre at best and the level can be finished in around five minutes. So yeah... It's not a very good level." - Magnus (29-Jan-2004)
"I don't think that this level is complete because there no objects or something else to do and after five minutes Lara is stuck and cannot find any way to continue I love to play coastal levels but this one is very bad." - Yoav (29-Jan-2004)
"One more butt level to the list. It's the author's first level judging from the title and it shows. Thin walls everywhere no objects no gameplay. Two set of keys and one gem I never used. I killed one crocodile and one wild boar. Going down avoiding the fire areas and opening the last door led me to the end." - Kristina (10-Dec-2002)
"A quick and easy coastal experience with butts all over the place and only two wart hogs and a crocodile for company. A bit of back and forth progression and you leave the level with a trident and a gem. You are actually able to complete the level and as far as I can tell all key pick ups are accessible." - Dimpfelmoser (10-Nov-2002)
"There are a few bad design flaws in this level that really should have been fixed before it was released such as many objects replaced by floating butts some I assume may have been enemies as they moved and a section of wall that can be walked through only one way which cuts time off finishing the level. Besides those flaws this 15 minute level set in and under a small town was not difficult to progress through and although nothing special to look at still had nice aspects to it. At the end for curiosity sake I decided to flycheat up to the rooftops and found a revolver which was funnily much harder to find than the one easy secret was. I look forward to seeing what this author's next level holds but I just hope they take more care in making sure it is a design fault free level." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"It shows that this is a first attempt and as only a TOM file is provided and according to the readme the WAD had been modified this is another one on the list of the 'butt-levels' ie Lara's butt is all over the place. Other than that this is a pretty standard coastal scenario with a few warthogs and crocodiles and the one secret being a rather simple pick-up. I am not sure that the walkthrough wall was intentional but it allowed me to complete the level quickly after less than 10 minutes and that was certainly a good thing." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is so flawed that it should never have been released. There are Lara butts everywhere and key pickups could not be picked up and this is unfortunate because what there was of this level looked quite interesting." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"I remember trying to play this level soon after it came out but could never finish it so put it away in my 'stuck' folder. Having just spent another half hour on the level I am no further than before but I feel like I've seen most of the areas by now. This looks like it could be a great level if only the bugs were fixed. I found two sets of keys and a gem but never used the gem I found a few weapons and the crowbar on the roof and I kept hearing footsteps and thought someone was sneaking up on me but never actually saw anyone. Spooky." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"A butt level strange indeed. Set in a small town it was rather confusing what to grab and what not. As I found the coin and couldn't grab it so I wondered what Lara was doing here. I take it that this is a first attempt to use the LE. 08-05-2002" - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"Well - it's a first try ... ;-)" - Sheevah (21-Jun-2002)
