Reviewer's comments
"A rather unexciting title for a custom level but I was very pleasantly surprised by this one. There's nothing too difficult to accomplish in terms of gameplay, but you get a nice amount of varying tasks (a few slope jumps, a boulder trap, a bit of monkeyswinging, rope swinging, a couple of items to find and a flipmaps) that make the 15 or so minutes you spend here enjoyable and worthwhile. Enemies are just a couple of ninjas (which isn't always a bad thing), but I found the textures and lighting to be very solidly put together. This is a solid debut, and it's a shame this builder never went onto building anything else." - Ryan (13-Aug-2018)
"This is a short, blameless traditional Egypt level which would be ideal for a new player. At under twenty minutes, there are a couple of ninjas and jackals to shoot and two eye pieces to find, with a few simple jumps, a timed run and a rope swing to accomplish. It's actually very nicely made and one wonders why this builder never made another level." - Jay (12-Aug-2017)
"Really a pain that this good builder never continued building. All is OK in this small level, very good texturization, perfect use of cameras and musics, entertaining tasks... Perhaps the rooms are not very ornated, empty of objects, there are not puzzles to make me think and there are not many enemies to shoot, but I think this is a level worth to play for everybody. Play it; you will not regret except for the short gameplay." - Jose (28-May-2016)
"A short old school Egypt level that can be finished under 15 minutes without a problem and it is easy enough to be recommended for beginners. Despite being a debut level, the builder avoided all the usual mistakes and created a really nice atmosphere in which Lara has to complete a variety of tasks to find the two artifacts and finish the level. There are a couple of dogs and ninjas in the mix and they are easily taken care off. A well made, tricky boulder trap and a timed door spice up the level. There were several secrets and some helpful and good-looking camera flybys. Texturing and lighting looked solid and has a good quality feel to it. A nice level that could have been a lot longer, but it still had a completed feel to it. The shortness of the level unfortunately always has a negative effect on the ratings, but if you were looking for a quality classic TRLE Egypt level that's not too difficult, I would really recommend this one." - Blue43 (01-Dec-2010)
"It always bugs me when people complain about today's games being too short. Ignoring the fact that games weren't longer back in the day (they were just more unforgiving), I think we should value quality over quantity. Too many game designers drag things out needlessly just too appease the people who complain about the length of games. And then we get things like the stupid triforce hunting in The Wind Waker). It sucks. This author seems to be a man of my own heart, as he made this level just as long as he felt he could make it without dragging things out needlessly and adding a lot of boring parts. My last save was at 7:00 exactly, so the level was almost over before it started. But! It never got boring. There's a miniature timed run, a boulder to dodge, three enemies, two flipmaps, two key items to find, a rope to swing, a short swim, one lever to push and a jumping sequence over lava. It's all very condensed, but it's also surprisingly solid. It won't rock your socks off or anything, but then again - it's just seven minutes. What do you have to lose?" - Magnus (21-Mar-2009)
"A short below 10 minute adventure but has some fine tasks for the time it lasts and is never boring - the small timed run the rope swing escaping the rolling ball and the lava slopes sure make this more interesting than the average level. The looks are not bad it is textured and lit nicely but a bit boring and there's nothing special to it. A nice try from the author you can give it a try in a short break." - eTux (16-Oct-2003)
"Here's a perfect example of what you can do with the original Level Editor programme without adding any of the fancy 'zany graphics' or 'funny costume' accessories. Short but delectable gameplay; good construction; well-handled textures and lighting. Overall a short but fun experience which begins with what appears to be the Tutorial opening room but quickly progresses into interesting and well thought out areas. I loved the camera angle as Lara (if you got it wrong) plunges to her doom; the boulder trap and the rope swings; and particularly the well placed secrets which gave the adventure an added little challenge. All in all a fine little effort." - Orbit Dream (26-Apr-2003)
"A very linear tutorial quickie with a few surprises along the way. The short timed run at the start was rather clever as you hear the mummy burp when you pick up the medipack and in your panic you are bound to mess up the jump at least once. That doesn't make much sense really if you haven't been there so I guess you have to download it and see for yourself. Jumping across the lava was fun and surviving the spiked boulder took me a few tries. Nothing extraordinary as far as the setting is concerned but at least you get an assassin and some dogs instead of scorpions and ninjas. Good entertainment for the 15 minutes it lasted." - Dimpfelmoser (11-Nov-2002)
"A little 15 minutes level for beginners. I found it a bit boring. Some baddies a mummy a few dogs a spikeball a monkey swing - that's all. The texturing could have been a bit more various but the lighting was okay." - Sheevah (11-Aug-2002)
"Such a shame this level was so short 15 minutes as it had some really good ideas and taken further would have been a great level. No surprise it is set in a tomb environment the object is to find the 2 halves of the 'Eye of Ra' the Eye of Horus renamed and place it but along the way you get to alter the look of a room and then add something to that new alteration beat a timed gate that has quite a deadly surprise on the other side of it and find 2 secrets. I can only hope the author's next level is longer." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Well this is a fairly standard 15 minutes adventure but if you look into the walkthrough you will see there are three secrets to be had so try and find those without looking there. Other than that you have here a little jump sequence some rope and monkey swinging and a rolling ball to dodge as well as a few ninjas and dogs and two flybys that are solidly designed." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"I don't know what resemblance this level had to Edgar Allen Poe's famous story but it was a fun little level nevertheless. Taking around 15 minutes the rope swings need to be spot on to work (which can be frustrating) but necessary. The textures were nice and lighting was (finally) adequate to the task at hand. This really is one to play folks." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a short level (it took me 10 minutes to finish) and quite linear with interesting flipmaps in the main room. I found 2/3 secrets that were not very hidden. Lara has to find the two pieces of The Eye Of Ra in order to open the final door then she runs to the shadows and the level finishes. Beside the flipmaps area where the pit and the pendulum (actually a rope) are the outside room was good looking too but Lara was there for a really brief moment. The textures are good and the lighting is too simple but it still looks good." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"Though short at only 15 minutes this is a nice little Egyptian level with a few clever ideas. The run through a timed door had me reloading a few times there was a fun slide/jump puzzle over some fire I enjoyed the rope swings over the massive pit and the last door in the level was opened in a way I don't think I've seen done before. Very few enemies but there are plenty of pickups three secrets to search for and some good camera work. Not a long hard search for the two eye pieces but worth doing." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"I rather liked the title 'The Pit and the Pendulum' had to think of an old movie with the same title. This level however has nothing in common with that movie. The author has some good ideas and taken that much further it could be a great level. This one was way to short. Lara never died didn't use a single medpack and only shot with her trusted guns. I guess I was very lucky today :) Even the jump toward the rope missing the rope completely I ended up on the other site of the pit. The first secret was in my opinion no secret as such as you would use that lever anyway. The other two were nicely hidden however. Enemies ninjas and some dogs maybe even a scorpion thrown in but I don't remember. Main goal is getting the two eye pieces. Hope there will be a next one. 22-06-2002" - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"Very simple short level. No difficulties rope swing monkey swing room changes & many levers." - Fairy Godfather (21-Jun-2002)
"There was nothing difficult to do in this level at all. Everything was very straightforward in this level. At least the level was clean there were no textures missing. There were a few flybys and these were ok but only displayed the obvious and not very helpful. The rope swing jump has to be pixel perfect to achieve your goal. No need for flares to see where you are going." - Jason (21-Jun-2002)
"A classic Egyptian level with one puzzle and some levers. One obvious secret and only two dogs and a ninja as enemies. Apart from that the textures although ordinary are nicely put. A level you can complete in ten minutes." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002)
