Reviewer's comments
"This was a straightforward level in a station similar to the TR3 one. There are some plenty easy tasks: guards to kill, blue thingies to shoot (I don't know what they're called), deadly pools to avoid and a bike to ride. There could've been more flares to better see in those dark areas, and also those moths or whatever they are that spawned at some points were a little annoying, but fortunately enough they just appeared twice, I think (why did the original TR4 developers thought those things were a good idea?!). The flybys are a bit crazy, but it doesn't matter. Play it if you feel like playing something short and simple." - alan (20-Oct-2022)
"This is a relatively short and straightforward romp through an apparent Underground Train station. It's not very evocative of the official TR3 Aldwych section as many of the rooms seemed rather simplistic and the sky seemed a bit too close for my liking, but it's not a bad effort nonetheless. The high points were the multiple timed runs that provided a bit of a workout and the brief bike ride near the end that provides the always welcome opportunity to run over a few soldiers. The walkthrough actually overcomplicates this level - it shouldn't give you that much trouble. Finished in 20 minutes." - Ryan (03-Dec-2018)
"A 25-minute raid, for which you're provided a 6-page walkthrough. One could almost classify it as a shooter, given all the soldiers in the area (which unfailingly die without leaving anything behind). A moody atmosphere with commendable lighting provides the backdrop for your linear quest for the exit door. Along the way you get a nice timed exercise and the opportunity for some quick-on-the-draw shooting. The sentry guns were a bit annoying, especially since there's no way to sneak up behind them and exact revenge. The motorbike ride is short but rewarding, as you get the opportunity to run over some of those ubiquitous soldiers. A good level to play on a rainy day when you have nothing else to do." - Phil (15-Mar-2018)
"This isn't very much like the official TR game of the title, although some of the lovely textures are present and correct. The atmosphere isn't bad in a gloomy sort of fashion and there are one or two fun bits in the way of a timed run and a timed target shoot and you get a short motorbike ride that helps with getting rid of some SAS." - Jay (19-Aug-2016)
"As you can see in my ratings, a mediocre but playable level. Not really a train station, except for the Aldwych textures. You can get stucked near the beginning, pull some levers/jumpswitches to open doors/trapdoors, a timed run, a timed door and some target practice. I found only the uzis with very few ammo, but not the shotgun or the grenade gun (?). Many rooms are very dark but neither extra flares to help. The flybys are offten unuseful, 'cause the triggered objects are very near; and when you really need a camera (the timed run) it doesn't exist. Not very appropriate musics, simple texturization and no secrets to find. Not very funny." - Jose (27-Jan-2016)
"Nevertheless, Aldwych is actually an underground station. Or possibly not? However, I have seen nothing from an underground or some construction operations. But many signs on the walls which point at least to the fact which Lara is near this station. A negative point are the missing Flares. Though I play with a brighter monitor, but it was still quite dark at many places. And it does not feel so good if one has then no Flares. Another negative point are the Flybys. The camera sways so which one could mean, she would be drunk. Otherwise the level was quite tolerable. The rooms are reasonable textured and Lara can drive occasionally with the motorcycle. Opponents are a few SAS-Soldiers. After about 15 minutes it was over also. Who searches something for the small level hunger occasionally, is well served here." - Scottie (01-Sep-2009)
"A level rather nice to play underground in a world of type without underground. Decoration is clean without big originality. The gameplay is rather simple, apart can be a synchronised running which asks for a little of address. The atmosphere of game works well, an instant of game to be crossed without regret." - Daffy (29-Jul-2009)
"An interesting and atmospheric game. Anyone who has visited one of the 'old' London Underground stations will immediately recognise the tiles walls and general 'grubbiness'. Having said that machine guns armed marauders and poisoned water are not quite so common! The timed run near the end of the game involved two difficult jumps across the deadly pool a short run and a bit of a swim I only accomplished by saving after each section. The satisfaction at completing the run was small compared to the relief/delight at managing to shoot a remote timed trigger (masquerading as a hanging bauble) across the poolside. Overall I feel the game is worth trying as it has some interesting puzzles runs and textures even if the 'baddies' were a little predictable." - Mrs rjb (28-Nov-2004)
"No way is this a train station even with the tiled walls but it looks great. There are a lot of dead bodies around that can be dragged but yield nothing a pool that kills you a lot of swimming locusts (in Aldwych! hah). I was standing beside the switch at the pool scratching my head when I read that this was a timed run - that never would have occurred to me. And shooting the balls at the end was confusing too. Good looking level all the same and straight forward to play." - CC (27-May-2003)
"What a fiend as that timed target shooting took me a long time to get it right. Haven't been able to finish TRC because of that same exercise (don't despair as you do trip over the shotgun and laser-sight). And this is also a first in a custom level. The sentry gun setting Lara ablaze took me by surprise and the precise jumping around the toxic pool was great. Switches to pull that will open doors or trapdoors a very very short ride on a bike some swimming and lots of SAS men to kill. Still not sure about the locust though. 20-12-2002" - Gerty (22-Dec-2002)
"This was a 30 minutes run around for me. There were some good flybys to help. There was a timed door underwater that required a bit of tricky running getting back to in time. I also liked a bit where you had to pull a lever and immediately turn round and shoot a ball - good fun. A motorbike has to fall through the floor in one area which had me puzzled for a while. Nice textures throughout. A good game to play." - Doug E (01-Dec-2002)
"I'm a big fan of the original Aldwych level and really enjoyed this one as well. It was nice to see the textures again and the level was built very well. Though most of the puzzles are finding jump switches in the dark and opening doors there are a few more difficult ones thrown in that make this a little more exciting. You'll come across a few locust swarms a few machine guns and lots of dead bodies lying around. Looks like something really bad has been through here already." - RaiderGirl (23-Jul-2002)
"A short level at 25 minutes that has its moments. Nice textures but again too dark in my opinion. The timed underwater door was a bitch due to the careful jumping around the toxic pool that was required and the timed door with the shootable object was another but other than that this level has little to recommend it." - Torry (15-Jul-2002)
"Here's another shoot 'em up set inside a gloomy train station where you don't get to spend much time in each room or area as you progress quickly to the end after 25 minutes although it felt much longer. Apart from the enemies there is a short bike ride a bit of swimming and a couple of timed gates one with quite tricky precise jumps around a toxic pool full of dead SAS men in it and the other where you don't need to run through it but rather you have to line up and shoot a swinging target behind. This isn't the type of level I am really fond of but many will like it and besides it has such a small download size that you really can't go wrong checking it out." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"When I had played this level long ago I got stuck and had given up. This time around I wondered why as it is very linear and straightforward and the solution to your problem is always close at hand. What I had missed before was the fact that one door is timed. I liked the Aldwych texturing though which is nicely done and near the end of this less than 30 minutes trip there is a real nice idea mixing some target shooting and a timed door. Other than that not overly eventful but a nice diversion nonetheless." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"The level is nice. Lara has to go among the station and surroundings using passages underwater and gate with levers to wall up and time. There are pools of hot water with dead bodies on the ground armed watchmen armed turrets a motorcycle but for the author very little medipacks. There are no secrets and bugs and the time to end the level is of about 30 minute with medium difficulty." - Boris (21-Jun-2002)
"This was a short 15 minutes level with no novelties. There are more dead SAS men in this complex than live ones! There's no real objective just find your way out and cross the final gates. It's nice but it could at least have been longer..." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"The best thing about this level is the decent use of textures from TR3 Aldwych level. Otherwise it's fairly short and lacking in a real objective (other than to run around an underground station oddly devoid of tracks or trains but full of SAS and dead bodies). One timed run was tricky and well conceived and I liked the use of another timed door later on. A very short ride on the motorbike a few switches and a couple swims pretty much round out this 30 minute level." - Tombaholic (21-Jun-2002)
"Not bad fairly enjoyable worth a look. By its name it obviously has something to do with Aldwych another side to the station maybe. Anyway there's not much we haven't seen before but at least there are very few bugs and it has been accomplished very well. Some of the fly-by camera sequences are insane to say the least. One of them opened up a trapdoor just below a lever but the camera twisted and flipped like an olympic gymnast! Some of the atmosphere of Aldwych is re-created and unfortunately no trains but that can't be helped. The difficulty of the level is perfect for all tomb raider players some tricky jumps around a deadly blood filled pool and devishly difficult timed doors but there are also some simple exploring elements and easier puzzles. Not a big download so worth a play!" - TrueRaider (21-Jun-2002)
"Lots of enemies. Lots of shooting. Lots of dead people. Average good puzzles. Too many flybys. You're moving through an underground station(?). A bit too easy for me." - G.Croft (21-Jun-2002)
"Good news: good textures; very good architecture; nice atmosphere. Bad news: bad puzzles and traps; a lot of camera bugs (while you open the kick door); no water animation (argh!). So...: nice level... but it could be better." - Leandro (21-Jun-2002)
"There is a hugely uneven mixture of features to this fairly short (30 minutes) level. The technical side of things is a little slap dash; hilariously so at times (extraordinary fly-by's incorrect positioning of doors) and I wish people would take more care over the sky details. It's simple to apply the allocated texture effect but all too often the sky animation sits flat directly on the buildings; one more 'room' added to the top of the buildings would give it much more depth. However I love the gameplay. The puzzles are quite challenging and well judged and the station complex itself (although lacking in railway lines) is well mapped out. The ominous scenes of dead Guards in pools of toxic blood are an effective addition." - OrbitDream (21-Jun-2002)
"I am afraid there isn't much to say here. Apart from the many SAS guards and a few sentry guns nothing more. All I could see was levers and dead guys all over the place even in red pools creepy. There was one timed door though well not that it was difficult or anything and another one that the player need to quickly draw the revolver and aim to shoot the blue ball inside that was interesting but those are the only things that are worth mentioning. You get the crowbar to pry a couple of doors and the bike to enter the final stage of this level. Short and easy." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002)
"There are two good twists in this one. At one point you have to run/drop past a sentry gun into a square of water and though this wasn't really tricky or anything it gave me a moment of pleasure. Shortly after this you have to do a bit of timed target shooting and since you don't get this too often I rather liked it. Apart from that you have to do an awful lot of jumpswitch flicking in order to open nearby doors which let you progress through a very linear course that involves many swims. There are plenty of randomly placed SAS guards but what I found really annoying where the two swarms of locusts and the timed run/hop that wasn't discernible as such. Why not put in a little cutscene to give the clueless raider a bit of a hint. That would at least make more sense than the very shaky and pointless fly bys you get at the start. I liked the setting well enough but then again there isn't anything special about it and the stench of all those bodies had me retching over long parts of this rather short level. But I always appreciate it when the author is kind enough to place a second crowbar though come to think of it you'll never reach it if you miss the first one around." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
