Reviewer's comments
"Another builder who ignores the right use of the tools to merge objects. All the rooms full of parts of Lara's body (at least the author wanted to ornate the rooms) and an unplayable level 'cause you never can see the proper parts of the objects to interactue with them. At the end even there's not a finish trigger. As I said: unplayable." - Jose (15-Jan-2018)
"Good heavens, what a mess. Plodding my way through these old levels in my customary, slow but methodical fashion, I was somewhat unprepared for this offering. Rushing off to the walkthrough, all was revealed. Impossible then to say what this level could have been if it hadn't been so riddled with bugs. Suffice it to say that Surrey Public Library (if such an institution exists) is probably not the first place one would expect to encounter ninjas!" - Jay (30-Dec-2017)
"Not one to easily escape the allure of a title like this, I remember e-mailing the author back in the day to kindly ask him to supply the custom wad required to properly play this level, and never receiving an answer. More recently, in the wake of the Mulfine Community Services successful recovery of the original 'Mystic Caverns', I attempted a salvage operation on this lost gem as well, but, sadly, had to admit defeat. The weighing-up of the emendations required (highly speculative in this case) and the amount of fun to be had from such a reconstruction did not turn the scales in this level's favour. All that is left, therefore, is DJFull's admirable textual reconstruction (the 'walkthrough') of the butt-riddled fragments that have come down to us: nothing beside remains; round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretch far away." - Mulf (08-Apr-2017)
"Oh, dear, butt alert and there's a lot of them. What a buggy and unplayable mess. Aside from the aforementioned butts, you use a butt key to open a door to a room, where you can't progress because of an invisible barrier, after which I binned it and moved on to another level. One point for the ninja attacks, but nothing else." - Ryan (28-Aug-2016)
"Another painfully unfinished debut release that in all honesty, shouldn't have been let out the door in its current state, including non-existent gameplay, plenty of missing/repetitive texturing, glitchy objects(in the form of Lara's butt) and a generally flat atmosphere among the host of problems, with the lack of a proper finish trigger being especially damning. So, what else really needs to be said here? Avoid this one like the plague and play something else that's far more complete and worth your valuable time, as this release lacks any kind of redeeming qualities to make it worth a download whatsoever." - Ceamonks890 (08-Jan-2015)
"I had a little bit of time to waste, and I couldn't have done much worse... everything about this horrible and unfinishable butt orgy has already been said. The texturing, when not missing, is somewhat bearable so one point to that, anything else simply is too crude and buggy to deserve more... who was that guy giving this level seven points in average? Maybe he mixed this level up with another one or he had a better version of this one... but in this state, it's plainly bad in any regard." - manarch2 (08-Jan-2015)
"I presume the multitude of 'Butt objects' were originally intended to represent library shelves or something, but it's impossible to tell for sure.Nor is it possible to actually complete this 4 minute level, but as the builder completely mucked everything up in every category (with the possible exception of enemy placement)I don't believe we're really missing very much." - Orbit Dream (26-May-2013)
"Still, I can't get used to it. I knew there must have been a switch opening the first door, but the suggestion caused by the placement of the butts fell so deeply into my subconsciousness I still couldn't convince myself the butts are normal objects. I call this OBD - obsessive buttness disorder. So I lost the patience and helped myself with the reviews. When I read about the switch, I said to myself: "I told you! I TOLD YOU it IS there! You didn't believe yourself again!" All this what I've just written must make sense, and as a prove I can say when I got convinced about the existence of the first switch I found the second one and a trapdoor by myself. So it's in at least 50% a matter of belief if one manages to complete the level without using a walkthru or if one manages not. I remember similar situation when I played "Beyond the Scion" - I missed the easiest secret in the first level (the silver one) and felt so angry with myself that I got motivated and completed the whole hard version of the game without using any single hint from the walkthru. And the thing that frightens me the most is despite of the fact it was several months ago already, I obviously didn't learn anything. Enough! Ad rem: there are just butts everywhere, triggers don't work, sounds are missing, vases are hanging in midair, and the ninjas doesn't fit the British library climate at all, as well as the Egyptian statues. Texturing is average, but some parts are missing so I rate it as "poor". Lighting is the only one thing that gets 3 points. And the gameplay, even if short, presents some variety and non-linearity. That's good thing. And... naah, let it be - I give one point for objects. At least the level wasn't empty and I could hang my sight on something else than squares and triangles only. SUMMARY: A level to remember - butts on the floor, butts in midair... one butt on the ceiling. So play this game only if you have no idea such things as butts exist in this world and wanna know how they look like." - DJ Full (08-Oct-2010)
"I would gladly know, what the levelbuilder has thought itself hereby. It cannot have been a lot. Lara can run here only through a few rooms. These rooms have a red carpet and textures which remind of a VCI-Level. Lara gets briefly society of a very impolite Baddie. There is a lack of textures and if one climbs up, it does not go on, because one stands before an invisible wall. Because all Reviewer had the same problem, I can finish this disaster with quiet conscience and send the level into the deserving data nirvana." - Scottie (05-May-2009)
"I downloaded this level because I like its name. I've never been to Surrey Public Library but I should think it would have less Egyptian artefacts and more books! The parts of the rooms that are textured are textured nicely, and there are flames and shadows that add to the ambience. I managed to find the"butt" that opened the invisible"butt" door. {I am nothing if not stubborn!} There are some shatterable objects blocking a crawlspace in the next corridor and a ninja ambush. Unfortunately I got stuck in the next large room due to another invisible"butt" door. I found what I thought was an invisible lever switch but I didn't see it having any effect. And the"rainy night in Surrey" atmosphere was completely shattered in this room as the Karnak horizon was clearly visible! It is obvious the builder knows what they are doing, the key/door combo worked; there were flames and enemies triggered and a custom"rain" audio. I think it is just a shame this level was never fixed. It is definitely a lost opportunity." - Kitkat (30-Jul-2007)
"This is still a butt level. Sorry to say but do NOT download this one, you can't do anything here - just meeting a ninja. Though the sound is nice." - Tinka (28-Oct-2005)
"Oh dear same problem as everyone else which is a shame because I liked the look of the first room very much. I couldn't get through to the corridor as an invisible wall stopped me so I had to quit. Don't bother to download is my only advice!" - Moonpooka (20-Sep-2004)
"Well I played this to see the 'butt rain'. But the butts weren't moving like rain - only suspended. There was a ninja that worked and shotgun shells. I was disappointed that I could not go beyond the invisible wall. Bummer." - Lady Lara (29-Dec-2003)
"Ah! I see almost everyone had the same problem as me so all that's left for me to say is butt butt butt butt butt. But then again (oops there's another but) maybe it will be fixed sometime in the future. Talking of butts I remember when I saw my first butt it was in Tarragona and I was convinced it was a floating piece of armour. I learned that sometimes you can rename files (i.e. catacomb files in Tarragona) but this doesn't always work. Anyway enough of this. I'll just butt out here." - CC (08-Aug-2003)
"Was in need of a laugh reading the reviews with butts floating around. But this level is no laughing matter it is even raining butts. Then I encountered a ninja and yes after shooting him I could pick up one of the butts. Still don't know where to put it though so Lucas if you would be so kind to tell me what you did with it I might even get to see the other room. 25-04-2003" - Gerty (28-Apr-2003)
"Right well butts butts and more butts. That is all you will see in this game that isn't a game or a level. You can't play it because as the others I too guess that it was built with a custom Wad that wasn't included in the download. I killed one ninja and picked up some ammo so that's why the marks and of course apart from the rooms that have missing textures the rest is textured and some lighting is involved plus a wav file so that justifies one mark each. Don't bother with it." - Kristina (02-Dec-2002)
"As everyone else save one concluded before this is rather unplayable in it's current form with hundreds of butts floating around and you can't give high marks for an unplayable level can you?! But I'll give one point for the nice soundfile that is supposed to be rain but actually sounds like a runout groove of an old and scratchy record. However it added a bit of that Hamburg vibe to the next tutorial adventure I played at that was quite funny." - Dimpfelmoser (15-Oct-2002)
"Why anyone would be so dense as to release a level that goes nowhere does nothing and is full of flying 'butts' is beyond me." - Torry (02-Sep-2002)
"I'd like to know how John got this level to play as I have been waiting for a reply from the author for quite some time and finally got tired of waiting. It looks like it could be a good level if it worked but now all I see are butts floating around. It can't be too long as there are only 17 rooms and there's nothing to do in the first few but it would be nice to see it anyway. I tried renaming the .tom to library but that seemed to make it even worse. Don't even bother with this for now folks." - RaiderGirl (28-Jul-2002)
"This version must be a mistake in the readme it says to place the TR4 file in the data folder but it only comes with a .tom and when this is converted what there is of the level is full of butts missing textures objects placed in the wrong position so that they are floating on air and an invisible wall that stops progression from the first room. Hopefully a fixed version of this will be out soon and then I will change this review but as it is this level is unplayable." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Well as downloadable this level is one of the famous 'butt-levels' because the author only provided the TOM-file on his website and not the complete WAD. As such it is only a one minute level with a ninja to shoot. Will be happy to reevaluate once the complete WAD is available for download." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"Well I simply have been waiting for so long. The level has a nice texturization until the point I could get to (I could pick one of the butts around and use it on the wall that opened a 'butt door' and then I proceeded). It's really a shame that the author didn't include his wad for download and doesn't even reply where/how can you get it (I've been waiting for a reply like this since the week it was released -- today is May 13th). The author said that there is rain in the level and I can think that what I see through the windows is rain but sorry all I see is a lot of butts flying around. IF someday a new version is up I will be happy to review it again but now all I can give are these low scores." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"Though quite short and easy I quite like this level! You start off in a library and throughout the level you have to find puzzle pieces and solve puzzles in order to progress well textured and made but I wanted a bit more of a challenge and was disappointed when it ended. Great level! Download now!" - John (21-Jun-2002)
