Reviewer's comments
"While gameplay is straightforward and not very interesting, there are some aspects that I liked. This level uses some custom textures, although they aren't always properly applied and there are some missing. Music tracks were well placed, the author even used 2 tracks from TR3. Cameras and flybys are also well set. I finished the level with a gem in my inventory. Maybe that last one was there in case you had forgotten the one that was on an underwater room." - alan (19-Jun-2018)
"A very straightforward level with a few artefacts to find, some swimming and a small amount of backtracking. The gameplay is rather meagre and doesn't really stand out from the other 2001 levels, but the custom textures made a nice change from the standard Egyptian environments. Crocodiles and skeletons will get in the way, but explosive ammo is lavishly provided. Nothing really standout." - Ryan (17-Aug-2017)
"I played this level yesterday, neglected to review it at the time and have already forgotten most of it. I can't even remember who wrote the walkthrough, although I believe it was Harry Laudie. I never have any trouble playing a level supported by one of his walks. Anyway, you've probably already guessed that this one doesn't have any features that really stood out in my mind, but I do recall that it was a fairly easy raid and that everything was clearly lighted. The enemies are easily defeated with the weaponry provided, although some of the crocs sneakily hid just out of my reach, forcing me to jump back into the water to flush them out. Playing time was about a half hour." - Phil (16-Mar-2017)
"Simple and straightforward gameplay with some backtracking, but nothing too onerous. Quite a lot of swimming involved and skeletons and crocodiles getting in the way. Fire power is generously supplied however so no real challenge there either. It looks interesting, with some custom textures, nice lighting effects and a couple of good flipmaps, but there's nothing much to get one's teeth into. I also found some of the corridors rather claustrophobic due to the unusually low headroom. OK, but no blockbuster." - Jay (11-May-2016)
"Not bad this coastal-type level, but not interesting. There are a lot of water rooms, and this time the switches are replaced by artifacts (gems, pharos...). So your goal is to explore the areas to find artifacts, activate some flipmaps and place the artifacts to open doors and continue playing. There is a big error with the gameplay: if you miss the crowbar (difficult to miss, of course) you can continue playing a long way and when you need it, you must backtrack a lot and explore again numerous rooms to look for it. All the rooms are completely nude of objects, so you'll only find empty rooms with textured floors, walls and ceilings. There are few enemies too (crocs and skeletons) and enough guns and ammo. Also textures and lights are not well worked. Playable but not enjoyable for me." - Jose (27-Nov-2015)
"A nice level in Babylon , with the Coastal ruins atmosphere. There are some new textures, and the author has also worked on the harmony in the texturing for some of the places visited. A pity that the lighting has not been worked more. It is more a journey than a raid , through indoor/outdoors areas. The map is good and there is not much backtracking except one near the beginning. I did not liked the placement of the crowbar at it is laying there unnoticed on the ground of a room. I had to quit the game years ago, for I never found it and you need it later on and have then no clue where it could be. Found also an extra blue gem in the water that does not have any use. You get early on grenade gun and crossbow , so the enemies are no threat , but still some of the crocodiles are well placed. Good sounds quality. All in all , a level a bit uneventful , but nice to play and the longest in duration from the author." - eRIC (13-Nov-2008)
"I'm looking at the release date so I can't complain about certain faults I see in the level including sound that would inflame players now. The textures are beautiful in places especially the Babylonian human pictures the blue stonework and I suppose you could call it mozaic work but elsewhere it quite boring. There is a lot more to this than I first thought i.e. when I placed the Hathor head I thought I was finished and when I placed the star and when I placed the gems but it kept going on and on and on. There's a lot of swimming and a lot of crocodiles and a few skeletons. The flybys are very good and the flipmap from Lara picking up the last piece to Lara swimming was very good. A nice quickie if you need a TR fix." - CC (09-Oct-2003)
"A nice level which I finished in thirty minutes because it was the second time I played it so I knew the puzzles. A coastal level and definitely bright there is no night setting as one might have thought by reading the title. The level is nicely done though with colourful textures except the ceiling that in many places is too low. We have crocodiles plus four skeletons outside as enemies. There are gems a star and a knot to collect and of course the portal guardian to access the outside gates. Mostly is played in the water that is swim pull up pick up something drop to the water again. Two pools that need to be cleared from the toxic water and nice camera work that gives an idea of where the next door opened. No doubt a pleasant level." - Kristina (05-Aug-2003)
"This was a nice level - good selection of textures and quite different areas. There were some flooding flip maps and those were well done. A few skeletons in the way and some crocodiles in the water but they are no threat to Ms. Lara. All in all it's a nice level and even though it's not a top one worth seeing there are quite interesting new textures. Just one thing: why 'dream of the darkest night'? It's day set! ;)" - Treeble (21-Dec-2002)
"This was a nicely textured level full of color with some nice designs such as the 4 small glass pyramids and the small hieroglyphic pyramids. Progression through this 40 minutes level was quite straightforward with a lot of swimming changing lava to water and a few enemies but I still really liked it surprisingly especially seeing as this creator isn't one of my favorites." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Well said by Tombaholic I agree to every word of his review. Having played other levels by this author you cannot help but notice the significant improvement in this one and some well placed camera angles and the new Lara outfit gives an additional nice touch. Worth a try if you want to spend some time running through a quite simple level. I still wonder why it has the title it has - not much darkness around..." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is just another day at the office for Lara going through the motions. Experienced raiders won't work up a sweat. One is never left to wonder too long about the next move and after 40 minutes it is all over. A few skeletons and crocodiles are easily dispatched with the arsenal of explosive weapons provided. Some colorful murals and textures along the way add a bit of spice to an otherwise bland field of uniformity." - Tombaholic (21-Jun-2002)
"A huge huge improvement over Diego's previous levels. I enjoyed the ingenious opening camera and the slightly fluorescent coloured rooms. The new textures gave this level a bright and vibrant feel and blasting the skeletons to pieces was an added thrill. What brings this level down for me is the simplistic and repetitive gameplay. It's just exploring picking up puzzle pieces and finding where to put them. Then you go through the opened door to search for the next ones. What the player likes is the sense of satisfaction after completing a tricky puzzle or successfully traversing across an area but here there is little of that. After a while I was looking forward to when it ended but the original textures and crafted areas made it worth playing." - TrueRaider (21-Jun-2002)
"The best thing about this level is that there were some original textures but I felt like some textures are not fitting in that they ruin the atmosphere and it made some places look unrealistic to me. The level repeats itself: Dive in retrieve artifact open door. After 10 minutes you get bored but I'm not saying the level is bad at all I just suggest that next time the author should put more enemies and more puzzles because the level feels like a gymnastic course. It's a good level to test your skills. I recommend this to beginners the most but others might enjoy it too." - Yonatan (21-Jun-2002)
"This may not be the hardest level ever made but I had a lot of fun playing it. I can tell the creator put a lot of work and planning into this and I think he did a great job. The rooms are well-lit interesting and an overall pleasure to look at. There are no difficult puzzles but it's fun exploring because this covers a big area and there are many items to find and place to progress into the next area. Since there are few enemies you are free to explore as much as you like. I liked the new textures the glass pyramids the lava you change to water and the interesting camera angles that help show off how beautiful the rooms are. If you feel like playing a nice friendly game of Tomb Raider that won't have you constantly frustrated - this is a good choice." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"I only played three levels made by Diego and this is a fast improvement. You had to look in all corners or else you cannot go forwards. I couldn't find the crowbar it took me ages and there it was right at a place I must have past a dozen times. Finished the game with a horseman's gem and trident. Loads of ammo as enemies are only some crocs and (I think 2) skeletons. There was a weird flyby had to reload to make sure if I was not imagining things LOL. The camera went outdoors and panned over the next area and went back to Lara and there she popped out off the blue standing in mid air also outside. Found some bugs by the water edge and some texture missing (sloppy) but overall the textures were new and I liked the idea that went into this game. There is potential with maybe some harder puzzles and a bit more enemies. On the other hand it is nice to play a level without looking over your shoulder all the time (although the ammo suggested it)." - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"Not an award winning level but very well lit and with no bugs. It was all a bit straight forward despite the fact there were quite a lot of rooms to plunder. I liked the boulder trap. Quite original! I think there is a lot of talent going to emerge in the future from this author." - Doug E (21-Jun-2002)
"Running swimming get out of the water shoot the crocodiles running swimming get out of the water shoot.... The whole gameplay is like this but anyway the level is not that bad. You have to pick up some objects get access to the next areas and avoid some traps the game is very easy you don't even need a medipack. One scene was funny when I picked up the token an earthquake appeared and the room was full of water and Lara was swimming. Give it a try it's an easy uncomplicated one took me about 50 minutes." - Freeman Porter (21-Jun-2002)
"Despite having 170 rooms this level is a breeze to play. There are a few errors (particularly the 'end of the world') which could easily have been cleared up with a little more time and patience and the gameplay is rudimentary. I cannot recall however a more beautiful looking level. Each and every room looks absolutely lovely and for once the custom textures are tasteful and sympathetic to the location." - Orbit Dream (21-Jun-2002)
"A great work from the guy that has thought out the biggest of Lara's adventures" - Lorenzo (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is not that technically a masterpiece but the gameplay is something the most various I played. It is never boring it have some really beautiful puzzle to solve and I liked the idea to come back to some location to check if you missed something. The story is told really fast I mean you can finish this level in few minutes (30 minutes or less) but in the middle you had a lot of fun! :)" - Tammta (21-Jun-2002)
"A very beautiful level! In particular the lighting system and textures (all made with scanner and a graphical publisher) that gives to the level the atmosphere of a dream!" - Alberico (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a very good level!" - Miya (21-Jun-2002)
"In dark night made of lightning bolts and lightning Miss Croft addormenta with difficulty. All at once taken the sleep the astral body (that is the part that dreams N.d.R.) of Lara it comes transported to Babylon the mythical Mesopotamica city known for its garden and its wonders. In this place LARA it is found forced to fight with the tombali guardiani that watch the tomb real. But the level will not be only a continuous combat in fact the textures that I have taken from the books of history and archaeology they will make you to come it wants to explore and river-to explore still some zones. Between they I cannot omit the Garden of Regina Semiramide and the Palace of Hammuraby. But that does not end here! In fact the level is a lot along and with its 160 rooms! It will amuse to you. It remembers that 6 in a dream. Therefore all it is lawful. Not restaRE impressionatO if sometimes vedrAI egizi designs or rupestri writings. In a dream all it is possible. Moreover I have stirred between they the five adventures ispirandomi to Structures that you will perhaps have seen in the previous chapters. Two new rows will be audio and a worthy end of a dream." - Roberto (21-Jun-2002)
"The level is in different colours. This was my first impression. The textures are beautifully colored but not well worked. There are only a handful opponents but the whole arsenal of weapons is available to the player for it. Completely needless. However no special level can be well played because there are no challenges for Lara except for a lot of running." - Xxenofex (21-Jun-2002)
"Well if the dream of the darkest night is as beautiful and uplifting as this I would be interested to see what the dream of the brightest night looks like. This is the computer game euqivalent to a nice and easy walk in the park which is what I should be doing on this Sunday morning so I won't complain about the lack of puzzles tricky jumps and challenging enemies. But as always I had real trouble to locate the crowbar. So you make your way from magnificent room to magnificent room with lots of swimming in between and quite a bit of backtracking. In some of the corridors the ceiling is so low that Lara constantly bumps her head and a few of the rooms seem a bit pointless as you just run through but the fly bys are great to watch the cutscene helpful and there is one flipmap effect that really caught me off guard. So if you want to relax chill out a little treat the reload key gently for a change and admire those marvelous murals and mosaics you should take a trip to Babilon. You won't meet the multiple breasted whore though." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
"I've finished to play this level two days ago. It is similar to the TRLR's level 'Coastal Ruins' but it used different textures that I love very much. Some of these are typically 'historical' in fact they were taken from an archaeology's book. The gameplay is simple but funny. The atmosphere is so peaceful and relaxing and the glass pyramids is very amazing. Lights are very fantastic especially in the final room. If you play this level you'll be in Lara's Dream." - Ilaria (21-Jun-2002)
"The textures are a mixture of very good and a bit boring. There are passages where only one texture was used there are also minor errors. At some parts at the beginning the light is a bit too bright for indoor chambers a few darker passages here and there would have given the level more atmosphere. The riddles are not very difficult mainly looking for the next artifact. This level lacks a certain excitement but it's still quite good. Some rooms look very empty. They would have needed a few objects like chests or statues. One part really surprised me where suddenly after Lara had picked up an artifact the earth was shaking and the room filled with water. I would have wished for more incidents like that. I am pretty sure that the level could be much better with a little bit of work." - Tombraidergirl (21-Jun-2002)
"This level was packed with things to do and places to go always searching for a key pickup to progress your gameplay further. The author has done some interesting things with triggers but the textures are a bit suspect in some areas. There aren't a lot of baddies a few skeletons in this level but enough to keep you occupied in your search for blue gems ways to open doors resulting in getting the golden star to open the final gates. Hint: Keep an eye out for that crowbar. Worth a look for a good time" - Momster (21-Jun-2002)
