Reviewer's comments
"So, author of Green Base, we meet again...and I’m pleased to say that I found this level much more entertaining than I expected. It’s not really a race, as it’s not timed, though obviously you shouldn’t dawdle in those sections where several gunmen and sentry guns are unloading lead in your direction. You will be needing medipacks, but most of the hazards can be bypassed by avoiding the middle of the track, many by simply riding along the slanted walls that define it. There are also a few occasions for the bike to get stuck.
The level doesn’t look too bad, but textures are missing a few times too many to avoid a penalty, especially in a quickie like this. No penalty for the messed-up sounds, however, as I think they’re hilarious and actually enhance the experience.
It looks as though there used to be an unfinished version of this, and what we have now is the essentially the same, but with the second half of that version (apparently simply a plain and empty canyon) now filled up with additional hazards, as requested by Sash. Not all of these panned out as envisioned (the bridge over a pit with stationary boulders), but the builder really couldn’t be bothered anymore. Either way, net gaming time won’t exceed a couple of minutes unless you do it on foot, in which case the level becomes, as DJ Full says, a very challenging shooter. However, you can’t complete it without the motorbike, even if you only need it for the very last jump; so resistance is ultimately futile, and you have to take the thing all the way to the end after all, in order to finish the level immediately after, abruptly and with no fanfare." - Mulf (02-Feb-2021)
"Funny enough this short ride with the bike. There are a lot of enemies and sentry guns, but if you are fast the medipacks will be enough. Some dangterous jumps, a lot of kills if you want and no much more for this entertaining level." - Jose (22-Jan-2018)
"That was at least enjoyable while it lasted and offered a fun time. You could try and beat your own best time." - Ryan (06-Apr-2016)
"Much like WebKnight's earlier released 'Meeting Race', this level also has you racing on a motorbike and while there still aren't any actual competitors to race against, I feel like this one actually handled the overall concept much better, with improvements such as a proper finish trigger and more enemies/hazards on the track leading to more of a satisfying challenge and having the save feature enabled, helps to relieve a lot of potential frustration. Sure, the texturing could have been done better and I feel the ambiance choice should have been different from the one in the final game, but if you're in the mood for something simple and short but still considerably fun regardless, this is one release that I very much recommend, especially for fans of racing." - Ceamonks890 (06-Dec-2014)
"I'm guessing that my version of this level has been updated from the one experienced by earlier reviewers, because I did not have a lot of the same issues. This is a 2-3 minute bike rider level, where the goal is apparently to get to the end as fast as possible without dying. I'm not a big fan of racing, so I didn't care to play more than once, but what was there was decent. There was an interesting placement of baddies, traps, and jumps. The textures fit the area well, though a couple are still missing. It never feels repetitive, though it does only last for a couple of minutes at most. Some fun driving action if you're in the mood, but don't want to sink too much time into a level." - Xela (21-Aug-2014)
"This is another of those unfinished race levels but I think some areas are actually fun to race through as there are a few soldiers to drive about, sentryguns to avoid and few jumps to master. The usage of the city textures, not only because of the bike, was nice as it somehow fitted to the scenery, but several textures are missing or horribly streched. Several boulders placed in this level can't touch Lara and even if they do, they don't harm Lara as she is on her bike. One memorable thing was the cool fixed camera at the start that shows Lara breaking through the wall with her bike, else than that it was a not very elaborate three-minute level that didn't have anything special in it." - manarch2 (11-Mar-2012)
"This game suffers from one thing: most of people try to complete it with the help of motorbike. And they become disappointed. However, if you try to play this level ON FOOT, you gonna understand why I rated this game so high. Level is a very good and very challenging shooter lasting for more than 20 minutes. SUMMARY: Recommended for all those who want to gain some experience in fighting the enemies. And for everyone who once played this level without getting out of the bike and now thinks this is a trash game. IMO it is NOT trash and it is definitely an underrated custom." - DJ Full (11-Oct-2010)
"For a level purely relying on the use of a bike this actually seemed half as bad to me as I could've gotten the impression after reading the other reviews. Sure it all ends after 2 minutes (I did have a finish trigger, though), but I found the track to be interesting enough involving a number of jumps, driving past sentry guns and SAS guards and avoiding traps. Not as bad as some of the other reviews imply (maybe there was an updated version?) but, despite that still can't really do much as far as innovation goes in the chosen format. Give it a try if you want a short race level." - eTux (20-Oct-2007)
"Fast and furious action for about 2 minutes, but alas the Finish trigger makes its appearance all too soon.Enjoyably unpretentious while it lasts, however." - Orbit Dream (19-Oct-2007)
"A nice little ride on a motorbike with nitros and self opening doors. Rams a few baddies and ride around. A few holes in the ground that are easily avoidable." - Cory (18-Oct-2007)
"A funny and rather hard race level. What this one lacks though is the challenge of playing it over and over for a better time. Here you feel that once or twice in enough. There are also too many enemies and sentry guns. Also, there are a few spots in where you can get stuck and have to reload. It was fun though.. the 3 minutes it took to finish it :)" - QRS (08-Dec-2005)
"Did I get a more complete version of this level which took me twelve minutes to play and actually has a finishing trigger or is it just me? According to the other reviewers the level is much more incomplete than it actually is (which explains the very low scores). Compared to 'Green Base' this is an improvement because of the lack of bugs. On the other hand the author shouldn't have triggered more than 5 enemies at once (Otherwise the animations will chug) and it appears that he didn't really think about the lighting (some areas are too bright and others are too dark). The retextured SAS soldiers and the machine guns made the level more difficult. The deadly water the boulders the pits and some of the collapsible tiles can be avoided easily. I was surprised to see tiny little dinosaurs in this level. The textures somehow lacked originality and the boulders would move around constantly in the pit below the collapsible tiles. It's actually possible to completely ignore the tiles go to the pit and get out of that pit unscathed. There are also some floors that make Lara's motorcycle go up in order to reach a certain area. I have found one or two tiny untextured areas but every other place has textures. Due to the absence of triggered sounds and a lack of cameras and atmosphere I gave a 3 in the category that concerns these three elements." - Sakusha (30-Jul-2004)
"Race levels can be fun sometimes. This level however isn't a lot of fun. Bad texturing bad lighting lots and lots of enemies and nothing even remotely challenging. And it only lasts for between one and two minutes. At least it was an easy review." - Magnus (29-Jan-2004)
"4 textures tiles a couple enemies a couple machine guns a bike. That's ALL you're getting for this 2 minute level. Oh you're also getting some untextured walls and no finish trigger let's not forget that. One thing that got me wondering is why that these people who make Racing levels ALWAYS stick to the Nevada textures? They simply don't appeal to me. And the author could be bothered to add a Jeep instead of a bike those long paths were you'd go in a straight line were often giving you the idea that the bike would blow up at any time LOL" - Treeble (24-Jan-2004)
"Nothing to do only drive the motorbike to the gate." - Yoav (11-Dec-2003)
"At the start I thought Oh great a level devoted to a bike ride probably through caves over bridges avoiding deep holes or boulders running down gunmen or ahmets or whatever negotiating a twisting winding cliff side road. My imagination was a hundred times better than this two minute disappointment. And there is no race." - CC (10-Dec-2003)
"Well this isn't a great level and it certainly isn't a long level but if you like riding the motorbike you may just get something out of it. There's not much to do really just get on the bike and ride through some gates avoid a couple of sentry guns and run over some guards (or not it really doesn't matter). All over in a few minutes and nothing to do but ride off into the sunset (or where the sunset might have been anyway). 04.07.2003" - Jay (07-Jul-2003)
"Not a vehicle fan myself still I thought to have a go at this. Installing took more time than playing it. There is no end trigger and driving that bike well what can I say drive that bike and see for yourself. 16-02-2003" - Gerty (18-Feb-2003)
"From the first 20 seconds I thought this might be a promising obstacle course for the bike but then the rest of my one minute 26 seconds was spent racing through a completely empty desert area and then it was over already. If only there had been a lot of men to run over or something." - RaiderGirl (26-Jan-2003)
"I really mean no offence to the author as I am sure he worked many hours on this level and I don't know the first thing about the editing levels. But I can't see anything exciting in this level. You just get on the bike and race along the level. There are no difficulties no missions even not to run over your soldiers. Sometimes Lara can get jammed in the objects." - Obig (15-Jan-2003)
"Another one of those race levels and sadly not very well made. The first 15 seconds or so on the bike are quite thrilling as you run through doors sentry guns a few man there is a hole in the ground and fire but the remaining 1 minute or so where you just zoom across a repetitively textured plain ground with missing textures before you hit the black void which apparently is the end but there is no finishing trigger either. I heard 1:18 minutes is the best time somebody achieved but I didn't bother to beat that." - Michael (10-Jan-2003)
"The answer is yes it's one of those levels that you get a bike or a jeep the bike in this one and it ends after two minutes. The only thing there is to do is ride the bike and it's hilarious actually as the iron gates open after Lara passes from inside at least the first one did also pass some friendly soldiers and get shot at by sentry-guns. After that just keep pressing the action key and turn once or twice until you reach a black invisible wall. That's the end I guess as I found no finishing trigger two minutes ride and it took me more to install this level. The rooms are textured with one tile and there is blackness in the horizon. Not worth the trouble." - Kristina (10-Jan-2003)
"I don't say this often but don't worry with this one. You get at maximum a 2 minute bike ride that starts for the first few seconds with some men and automatic guns to ride past and then the rest is a boring zip through a wide plain and sometimes un textured canyon to the supposed end which is just an invisible wall across the canyon which gives the look of what Mike would call the end of the world. Would it have been too much to ask for there to have been at least a couple of men to run over through the canyon or maybe some rocks or deadly holes to dodge just anything to have livened it up. The only upside was that the download size wasn't very large!" - Sash (09-Jan-2003)
