GARDEN OF EDEN
As soon as the initial flyby has ended, run down the passageway you're in and jump over a small pit, leaving the boulder that was on your heels behind you. Outside, two green Harpies attack you. Shoot them, then from the central palm tree turn to face East, and locate the swinging blue ball high up in the middle of the building. Shoot it with the combined revolver and laser sight, then enter the newly opened double doors (North). Pick up the flares and go down the stairs to the lava room. At the edge, turn and climb down the ladder to the ledge at the start of the lava. From the left, do a running jump to land on the first rock in the lava. Walk to the pointed end of the rock, jump back and do a running jump to land on the next rock. Turn left, walk to the pointed end of the rock( notice the switch on the right hand side at the entrance to the new room, and shells on the left) jump back and do a running jump to the next rock.
Turn to face west, and a running jump will take you to the outside edge of the room near the switch. Collect the shells from the ledge near the edge of lava, and walk forward into the room where you’ll see a gem on a pedestal which ignites as you get nearer. At the same time a door opens on the other side of the lava room, and a fire sprite appears, so waste no time in rolling, exiting this room and running on the outside ledge of the lava pit to the open door. Follow the passage to a pool room, jump in and wait for the sprite to be destroyed.
Now return to the switch in the lava room. This is a timed switch which opens a gate in the pool room. Pull it, jump with twist and turn while the camera shot is on the screen, and race back to the pool.( I found running jumps easier than speed dashing.) Enter the pool room and do a running jump to the left hand platform, another to the platform in front, and a standing jump through the open door. As you enter the new room, a magnificent camera shot pans the new area, enjoy the TR music. There’s a great atmosphere in this room.
Climb up the central pole and backflip to one of the invisible ledges. Then jump over to the west balcony, and pick up a medipack and jump back to the invisible block. Make your way to the north wall, get behind the statue and push it along an invisible path to the invisible block in the centre and then repeat the process with the statue on the south wall. The door (east) below opens. Go through it.
The room ahead has chains, lava and four switches, three of which are alight. Turn to the left, walk past the swinging chain, and standing jump over to the wall switch . As you pull the switch, a camera shot shows a block raising in a room with ropes, and behind you the lava is now alight. Quickly turn right and running jump over the next platform infront of you, pull the switch, turn right, and running jump over to the switch on the next platform near the gate, pull the switch then jump to the platform infront of the gate, and running jump over to the switch on the south wall.
Turn right, running jump to the platform in the middle, then running jump to last switch on the south wall near the entrance. When all four switches have been pulled the gate opens. Return to the platform at the entrance, and jump to the newly opened gate on the other side of the room avoiding the chains and the intermittent fires.
Run down the corridor to the new room, and stand underneath the hole in the ceiling, facing south. Jump up and grab, and climb the ladder to the top, backflip off the ladder. Before you pull the switch on the south wall, go and see the task infront of you. Ahead of you is the block you raised in the lava room, and from the block you will be able to see three ropes, and four switches, two on either side, and an exit door at the end of the room. Turn around and stand infront of the switch on the south wall, kill the two green harpies.
Pull the switch. Roll and do a running jump with grab to reach the top of the ladder, then a standing jump to the block and take one step back. THIS IS A TIMED SWITCH/ROPE SWING. Do a running jump with grab off the block to catch the rope, then rotate the rope to the right and line up with the switch, swing once, drop off and pull on the switch ledge. Before pulling the switch, (the timed sequence starts after you pull this first switch)walk to the edge to get a rough idea of where you need to run, and the take off point of the ledge to re-catch the rope.
Pull the switch. The block opposite will raise. Still facing the switch, take two steps to the left, roll, and do a diagonal running jump with grab to the rope again ( if you take off from the switch block at the centre point of the block and slightly to the left you should catch the rope, but you may need to adjust slightly). Rotate the rope slightly to the right, and swing once to land on the second block. Pull the switch,( a block will raise on the far right wall under the third switch) and still facing the switch, take two steps to the right, roll, and do a diagonal jump with grab back to the rope,( taking off just slightly to off centre of the block – again you may have to adjust slightly.)
Once on the rope, swing forward to catch the second rope, and forward again to catch the third. Rotate the rope to the right, swing once and drop off to pull the third switch, then take two steps to the left, roll and running jump with grab back to the rope and over to the fourth switch, and pull that. Sidestep twice to the right, roll and do a diagonal running jump with grab to the rope. Now line up with the exit, swing, and drop off through the opening before the door closes. (You don’t have time to do a lot of lining up with these three ropes, and whenever possible, must catch the rope or land on the ledges with just one swing. (I think it was a fluke, but I managed only once to get on the third block with the second rope by swinging extra high, but you have to do a lot of ‘turn’ to the left.)
Slide down the slope into the water, and follow the tunnel till you can climb out into a new room. From the edge of the pool, shoot the pots, dive back in and pick up crossbow ammo. Still in the water, face north and pull the underwater switch on the central block. Climb out run through the open door on the south wall and follow the passage back to the garden. Now head for the newly opened door on the south wall.
Head up the stairs to the lava room At the top, stand at the far right at the edge of the ledge, turn round, and drop and grab onto the ladder in the lava room. Shimmy left until you reach the sloped block, pull up and back twist with grab to catch the ladder on the opposite side. Shimmy right and into the ‘low’ opening on the south wall. Shimmy all the way round until you can drop off the ladder onto the blue platform and pick up SECRET # ONE - A GOLDEN ROSE.
Now return to the ladder and shimmy left and out of this room, then use the ladder to climb up and onto the top floor on the central structure. (when you reach the top rung of the ladder shimmy left as soon as you are able. If you continue to climb up the non textured wall, you can pull up, but then you’ll drop straight into the lava.) At the top is the receptacle for the Sun Talisman statuette, and you’ll return here later. Face south and do a running jump with grab into the large entrance ahead.
Follow the path around, and at the end of the corridor, look to your left for an opening on the east wall. Save your game. This is a really tricky running diagonal jump with grab. You need to line up so that you are almost parallel to the opening on the east wall since you have to grab the edge. Hop back and do the jump, tap the right direction button so that you can pull up onto the edge and start sliding down the first slope. As you change direction to get onto the second slope, the camera angle changes, and you will see a wooden ledge rise. Just before the end of the slope jump to land on it.
Now combine the revolver and laser sight, and shoot the swinging ball at the other end of the corridor to raise the wooden ledges over the lava. Quickly jump to the second and third wooden ledges to the other side of the room, before the ledges drop. Ahead there is an alcove, and after dropping down into the lower alcove is the second Golden Rose, but it is protected by fire at the moment.
Instead go right and to the next lava channel. Infront of you is a dropped wooden ledge infront, an alcove on the left, a wooden ledge up ahead, and a switch on a platform with the torch. Stand at the right edge and turn to line up with the alcove on your left. Do a long running jump with grab, turning to the left to land in the alcove. Now turn back to face the lava channel and to the wooden ledge ahead.
The next jump, you’ll be jumping almost blind with a curved ‘banana’ long running jump with grab and a turn to the left. Pull up on the wooden ledge, a long running jump with grab will take you to the switch ledge. The next sequence is also timed from the moment you pull the switch. Get as close to the switch as possible, or you’ll always end up picking up the torch. Pull the switch, roll, pick up the torch and do a standing jump with grab to the alcove on your right. Now run down that passageway to the ledge which has now raised over the lava, and jump back to the edge where you started this sequence.
Turn left and run past the golden rose alcove to the next lava channel on the left (next to the metal gate). Jump over the platforms. Light the torch on the wall sconce, jump onto the wooden platform ahead and light the wall sconce there, now jump into the next alcove on the left, run round until you emerge back at the wooden platform, and safely jump back to the main passageway.(If the wooden platform has already collapsed you can do a diagonal running jump to get back to the main walkway) Now run west and turn left at the end and light the wall sconce there. The metal gate on the west wall opens.
Enter the new room. Directly infront of you is the Sun Goddess figurine on a pedestal but don’t pick it up yet, because it will release a fire spirit. Instead go to the south wall, and pull out the golden urn next to the blue vase. Pull/push the urn to the patterned floor square on the right side of the entrance door. Now do the same with the golden urn on the north wall, and push that one onto the patterned square on the left side of the entrance door. Each time you will see a camera shot of a room with a rope and a switch, and a pool of water.
Now pick up THE SUN GODDESS. As soon as you do, the fire spirit will chase after you, so quickly exit this room and speed dash back down the corridor (east) and through the now open door. Dive in the water and wait for the fire spirit to explode. Climb out and shoot the pots in the water, and pick up clips and shells, then do a running jump with grab to the rope and swing over to the switch and pull it. You’ll hear a door open.
Use the rope to get back to the entrance, and return west to the lava room and pick up SECRET # 2 – A GOLDEN ROSE from the south alcove. Now return to the rope room and do a running jump over to the opened gate on the north wall. Run down the long corridor to a room with golden urns in a central trench, and high platforms. As soon as you drop down into the room, kill the green harpy which attacks.
Pick up BINOCULARS from the west alcove. As you leave, the camera moves to one of the high ledges, use the binoculars and see that there is a swinging blue ball there. Use the combined revolver and laser sight to shoot it. A block will raise on the south wall under monkey bars. First pull/push the golden urn nearest the entrance onto the marked block, then push the other as far as it will go.
Now go to the block on the south wall, climb up and grab the monkey bars, and swing across to the other side. As you approach the new entrance, there is a rumble as a block raises underneath you. Drop onto the block and climb up, roll and jump onto the higher ledge. Run across the ledge to halfway, then turn and face east, and do a running jump with grab over to a new ledge.
Go through the crawlspace and climb the ladder at the end. As you pull up at the top, a demigod will start firing at you. Shoot him, and do a diagonal running jump over to the central platform, then to the alcove (north) and pick up the BLUE DIAMOND he leaves behind. (Note the ladder at the back of this alcove, at the top of which is a closed gate).
Jump over to the switch on the west wall, pull it . The camera shows blocks rising downstairs at ground floor level over the two golden urns. Retrace your steps out of this room, down the ladder and through the crawlspace, and safety drop to the ground. As you approach, the two golden urns have now been raised up. Go to the urn furthest from the entrance and push/pull it onto the marked square. The camera shows the closed door on the top level at the top of the ladder.
Now go to the other urn, and push it off the brown square to the outside ledge, then pull it onto the marked square near the entrance. The camera shows the door at the top of the ladder now open, so using the monkey bars and ledges and crawlspace as before return to the top level and the north alcove and climb the ladder to the top.
Run through the passage, and re-enter the garden area. Head for the room on the west wall (the room with large blue vases and statues, ) Locate the receptacle on the north wall, and place the Blue Diamond. Go through the open gate to the end of the passage. Infront is a climbing pole and down below circular saws. Top up to full health.
Time your descent past the first two blades to take as little damage (if any ) as possible. After the second saw, you need to backflip onto the ledge, so that you can pull a switch. The camera will show a metal gate opening. Jump back to the pole, and time your descent again to pass the next saw and slide down to the ground floor.
Enter a huge room with a pool at the end climb onto the outside ledge of the pool and pick up BROKEN SUNGLASSES. jump in the pool from the left hand side. Wade as far as you can until the underwater current pulls you down, then swim back hugging the right wall until you are almost past the turning to the alcove on the right, quickly turn, into the alcove and pick up SECRET # THREE – A GOLDEN ROSE.
Now exit the water. Run up the stairs and through the open door on the east wall. Look up and jump and grab to climb the ladder. At the top run down the south corridor and shoot the vase to pick up clips. Look up, and pull up into a blue corridor, and enter an awesome Serpent switch room.
Go to an alcove on the west wall, shoot the vase and pick up the torch. ( I never found a use for this torch). In order to make the order of ‘switch’ pulling easier to describe, let’s call the first serpent switch immediately at the left of the entrance number 1, and in a clockwise direction ending with the serpent switch to the right of the entrance door as number 7.
The sequence to pull the switches and raise the middle block is 6 4 2 1 3 5 7. Once all the switches are pulled in this order the central block will rise.
Climb up the blocks and also the ladder on the east wall. This will lead you to what looks like the ground floor leading to a library, and wooden planks in the middle of the room which will need to be burnt. Turn around and climb the ladder on the west wall to the balcony.
At the top of the ladder turn left, light a flare and walk round the balcony and pick up the TORCH. Go back to the top of the ladder, and throw the torch to the ground. Now go and pull the switch on the north wall to light the pedestal downstairs, return to the ladder and climb back down. Pick up the torch and light it on the pedestal in the east alcove. Now throw the torch onto the wooden slats in the middle of the room, and watch as the floor burns and collapses.
Safety drop down into the room below, and pick up the SUN DISK from the central pedestal. The camera shows a flyby of the room at the beginning of the game where you did the first timed run, and the gem on the central pedestal. Exit the room by the opening on the south wall. At the end of the small passageway, turn and jump up and you’ll find yourself back in the room above where you burnt the floor. Now go through the door on the east wall, and back to the garden.
Find the double gates on the north wall and re-enter the lava room at the end of the passage. Cross to the left hand side by means of long running jumps to the platforms in the lava. Enter the room and pick up the BLUE DIAMOND from the central pedestal. As soon as you do, you will come under attack from two demigods, so quickly dispose of them. Then leave this room, return back over the lava platforms and back up the ladder into the garden.
Go back through the gate on the opposite side of the garden (south), and run up the first opening on the right, back to the lava room with ladders. As before, shimmy left, pull up on the slanted block, backflip with twist and grab the ladder on the central structure, but this time climb to the top of the central structure. Combine the Sun Disk and the Sun Goddess to make the SUN TALISMAN, and face west to place it on its holder in the centre of the top platform on the pointed receptacle. The flyby shows large double black gates opening in front of you on the west wall, and a smaller gate opening in the south alcove, so go there first.
Turn right and at the end, place the Blue Diamond in its receptacle. As you do, you’ll hear the rush of water, and as you exit the alcove you will see that the whole of the lava room is flooded. Swim over to the west wall and go through the large double black gates you opened with the Sun Talisman. Run towards the ‘treasure room' on the south wall – it’s a bonus for getting all three secrets in the first level, and pick up shells, clips, medipack and the REVOLVER.
Exit the room and turn immediately left and go through the opening on the west wall. Climb up the blocks and save at the last one. As you start to slide you will enter the next level, but as soon as you start sliding press control and jump until you safely reach the ground and enter the Sanctuary of Eden.
SANCTUARY OF EDEN
As you walk forward into the room, you will see a rolling ball, an entrance to the right, a shimmy crack on the far wall at the other end of the room and a crawlspace on the left (west) wall at the end of the rolling ball track. Inside the crawlspace is a secret, but you can’t get it from here because the front of the crawlspace is a fire trap. Instead, head for the far right corner of the wall ahead (north), pull up and shimmy left until you can pull up.
As soon as you can stand up, turn left and find the crawlspace on the south wall, go through, down the ladder and pick up SECRET # - FOUR – A GOLDEN ROSE from the back of the crawlspace. Climb back up the ladder. The room ahead has closed doors, either side of which are stands, and a tightrope over a deep pit.
Near the door to the left (north) you can pick up clips, and to the right of the original entrance is a closed door, and through it you will be able to see a golden rose on a pedestal. There is also a closed gate high up on the left wall, and an exit route via a slope on the south wall. For the time being there is nothing else you can do in this room, so exit, and return to the first room with the rolling ball.
Go through the east door, and at the end be prepared for a huge spider to attack you, kill it. To the left is a huge area with a bridge, and to the right is a crawlspace. Go through the crawlspace, and drop onto the block at the end. In the room below are three unlit torches, and a fire jet in the doorway. You can jump over the fire, but you would miss picking up the torch.
Overhead are monkey bars all round the room to lead you to the opening on the west wall, but you can do a running jump with grab from the block and catch the bars just before the opening. Drop off inside the new opening on the west wall. On the next step down, pick up the torch. Now throw it into the room ahead, and safety drop off the edge.
Enter the spike room ahead of you (west). Directly ahead of you is a closed gate on the wall, and a spike trap on the floor to the left of it. Above this spike trap is a jumpswitch, and directly above the entrance (east) is a blue/gold shootable ball. A save would be a good idea here as a TIMED sequence is coming up involving three switches.
Go to the right of the entrance, combine the revolver and lasersight and shoot the ball. This retracts the spikes in the east room directly underneath you, so safety drop off the edge and rush in to push the floor lever. This will retract the spikes in the room next to the jumpswitch on the wall, so speed dash over there and push the floor lever, jump directly over the switch to the floor trap with spikes/fire and a switch. You’ll see a path has been cleared, but it wont be clear for long, so hurry to push the floor lever and backflip out of the pit to safety. The spikes underneath the jumpswitch have now retracted.
Avoiding the knight, go to the jumpswitch and pull it. This will light one of the floor torches in the previous room and put out the fire at the doorway. Return to that room via the ladder on the west wall, pick up ammo, and jump back into the room, pick up the torch, light it from the lit brazier, then light the remaining two floor torches in the room. A camera shot shows the metal wall gate opening by the side of the jumpswitch. Return there now and prise the EASTERN SHAFT KEY from the wall. As you do, you’ll see a gate opening back in the area where you picked up the Golden Rose.
Using the ladder on the west wall go back to where you lit the torches, and using the blocks, climb up and into the crawlspace and return to the previous area where you shot the spider. For the time being, ignore the area to your right with the bridge and run forwards back to the rolling ball, and jump to the shimmy crack on the far wall and pull up. The wall gate on the west wall is now open. Enter the dark tunnel and walk to the slope.
TOMB OF ANCIENT
As you slide into the new room, two gladiators will attack you, and directly infront is a spike trap in the centre of the room, protecting a gold chain. Dispose of the gladiators with the revolver. Walk to the double metal gates on the east wall, press action to open them and see two sets of circular knife wheels ahead of you. Jump through, shoot the vase, then use the crowbar to activate the floorswitch.
Return back through the circular knife blades, and go to the metal doors on the west wall, press control to open them. Go down the steps (note the closed door on your left) to the room at the end. Turn round and look up, and shoot the ruby in the lion’s mouth to open the gate to your right. (south). Now use the crowbar from the left hand side to push the floorswitch and close the first gate to allow you access to the second. Go through the south door.
At the edge of the slope, look up and grab the monkey bars, and time your swing between the two sets of flame emitters to finally turn left and drop off at the entrance on the left. Turn right and climb back up the steps to the original room. The spike trap has now been retracted. Pull the chain to open the door on the north wall, and slide down into an underground cave.
Turn west and pick up shells from the ledge, then turn east and pick up a medipack, then safety drop into the dark room below. As you progress towards the edge, there is a great flyby of the huge underground area accompanied by the familiar TR music. The flyby ends to show a waterskin on a central pedestal at ground floor level. Walk to the end of the ledge and look left (west). There is a shimmy crack on the far wall, so line up a running jump with grab to catch the shimmy and shimmy right to the entrance.
Follow the hallway to a new room with a tightrope over a huge pit. Kill the gladiator who comes out to greet you. Walk to the left edge of the pit, turn around and hang and drop onto the slope, climb down the ladder, drop off the block and enter the crawlspace and pick up clips. Leave the crawlspace and jump back to the block in the centre of the lava (two steps back from the edge, then standing jump with grab) then turn to face west to another crawlspace lower down on the west wall. Crawl in. Pick up ammo from the left, and SECRET FIVE # – A GOLDEN ROSE from the right.
Exit the crawlspace and jump with grab back to the middle block. Turn around to face south, jump with grab back to the first crawlspace ledge, and climb up the block and ladder to get back to the top. Walk towards the tightrope, but before you press action to start walking across, try and kill the skeleton on the other side of the pit who is waiting to kill you when you step off the tightrope. Now turn around and shoot the ruby in the lion’s mouth on the south wall just above the entrance door, to open the exit door on the other side.
Walk up to the rope and press action to get onto the rope. Use the direction buttons when you start to sway, to get upright again. (This took me ages to get across here) Once you safely reach the other side, kill the gladiator, and push the floor switch in the alcove to the right of the exit door. The camera shows a door opening into a pool room. Go through the exit door on the north wall, and climb down the ladder. At the end of the corridor, jump with grab, and climb down another ladder.
In the new room, turn left, right, then left again and turn around to face west. Look up to the crawlspace, and pull up. Climb down the ladder at the end, and drop on to the coloured block in the water. Pick up a medipack and the KEY OF DESTINY from the pedestals. Climb back onto the coloured block and face east, and jump with grab to climb back up the ladder and exit the crawlspace.
Enter the pool room, and kill the two gladiators. Now face west and use the revolver and lasersight to hit the two rubies in the lion heads either side of the entrance. This will open a gate in the north side of the pool. Before going there, swim through the entrance on the east side of the pool through the cutting blades and pick up a medipack and crossbow ammo. Return to the opening in the main pool (north), and swim down. To your left you can replenish your air. Swim east and find another nearby air supply. (*One wonders why there are so many air pockets* - bodes evil).
The reason becomes apparent as you swim down the slope and emerge into an underwater mirror room. In the centre of the room you can grab some air from the small air pocket in the middle of the pillars. You can also pull up on the south side into a well hidden room, but there’s nothing to do here yet, so jump back into the water and head for the mirror. There is an opening on the east wall, an opening on the west wall and also on the floor in the middle of the central pillars.
Swim to the east wall first and find the opening (roughly half way between the pillars). At the end turn round and pull the wall switch. You’ll get a glimpse of the closed door in the first area in the centre of the pillars. Exit, and swim directly ahead, go to the west wall, and swim through the passage, again about half way between the pillars, swim to the end, turn round and pull the switch. That closed door is now open.
Swim back to the central pillars, and up, climb out on the south edge. There is a skeleton on the left. Go through to the end room, and prise off the NORTHERN SHAFT KEY with the crowbar (The camera shows a door opening back in the ‘green area’) Exit the room and kill the skeleton or out run him as you leave the area. Now jump back into the water, and swim down to find the hole in the floor in the middle of the central pillars. You emerge into a grey stony gravel textured area with a ‘gate’ at the end.
To either side of the gate you can pick up shells. Swim up through the opening at the top and pull the underwater switch, which opens the gate on the other side of the main pool(where you shot the lion’s heads) THIS IS A TIMED SWIM. Swim quickly back to surface in the air pocket at the top of the central pillars, but this time avoid the spike traps which are now activated. (Swim as high to the ceiling as you can and you should be safe).
Now locate the exit on the north wall, and swim back through the passageway, and to the main pool, replenishing your air supply in the air pockets along the way if you have to. As you reach the main pool, swim straight across and through the door on the south wall of the pool. At the end of the slope is a death square with a spike trap.
Time your swim to avoid the spikes and pick up a medipack and shells from the left and SECRET # SIX – A GOLDEN ROSE from the right. Swim back over the death square – the spikes are now deactivated, and with your lungs bursting, surface for air in the main pool. Climb out and go to the south wall where you opened the door in the underwater area.
Go through the crawlspace, and walk into the new room and stand at the edge of the walkway to line up with the rope. Jump back, and do a running jump with grab to catch it, then swing across to the other side. Turn left at the end. From the left hand side, do a diagonal running jump to the ledge on the north wall. Hang drop off the far right of the ledge onto the block underneath.
Turn around to face the opposite alcove and note the floorswitch, you’ll be back here later for a timed swim for a secret. Turn to face north and drop down onto the ledge beneath you., drop into the water and climb out into the alcove with the keyhole and use the Key of Destiny. This opens a gate at the bottom of the pool, so drop back in the water and swim through it.
Climb out into a really impressive room, and kill the gladiator. Locate the patterned ledge in the west corner, and pull up onto the ledge above. Both on this ledge and the one opposite are pushable chess pieces. Turn around to face the west wall, and shoot the three vases on the upper level to open the gates on the higher level. Now do a diagonal running jump to the higher ledge on the west wall, run across and drop off at the other ledge with the second chess piece. Pull it as far as it will go, then standing jump with grab back to the higher platform on the west wall, and do a diagonal running jump to land back on the ledge, and push the chess piece onto the gold square at the end.
Now jump back into the pool and pull the underwater lever on the north wall. This will raise the chess piece up, and also lower a block on the other platform. Return to the patterned ledge in the west corner pull up, do a diagonal jump to the higher platform as before and pull the chess piece that has been raised onto the gold emblem on the floor. Now go to the other ledge and push the chess piece onto the gold tile at the end (where the block has lowered) jump back into the pool and pull the underwater lever again.
Climb out and return to the second chess piece which has now been raised up and do a diagonal jump onto the higher platform and pull it onto the gold emblem on the higher pathway . A block will rise at the end of this walkway. Jump back in the water and pull the underwater switch. This will raise gold blocks on the east wall so that you can climb up into the next area.
Swim through the entrance on the west wall to the previous room where you placed the Key of Destiny, and climb the steps to the switch alcove. As soon as you push the switch, you will start a tough TIMED RUN/ SWIM/CLIMB. Push the switch, the camera will show a door lifting on the South wall of the area above the gold blocks you have just raised in the previous room. Jump into the water and swim through the door at the bottom of the room into the room with the chess pieces. Surface and climb out, use the patterned ledge in the west corner to pull up to the higher platform, continue using the ledges, and finally use the gold block on the right hand side to enter the new area, and the now open gate on the south wall.
From the edge, jump back and do a running jump with grab to catch the monkey bars. Swing across to the end of the room and to the left and drop off. Turn to face the east wall and hang then drop and grab to catch the shimmy crack. Shimmy as far as you can then hang and drop and grab again and follow the shimmy crack to an alcove. Pick up SECRET # SEVEN- A GOLDEN ROSE. Drop into the water and pick up flares and clips. Make for the exit and swim down the passageway, the gate will open in the pool as you approach. Climb out of the pool. Head back up the platforms and the gold block to the new area at the top of the room.
The first opening on the left has death face squares, but if you run over them you will get a flyby of a huge lava area – a sign of things to come. Carry on round the path to the entrance at the east wall. Hop back and do a long running jump with grab to catch the overhead monkey bars. Swing across the lava, and at the end, drop and grab the edge and pull up. In the next room is a floorswitch, but don’t use it yet. Instead, go through the opening on the north wall and through the next two green rooms with central structures. Note the rope and boulder in the second room on the left hand wall.
Continue through to the end room, and drop down into the hole under the wall sconce on the end wall. Pick up the TORCH . Backflip out of the hole, and return with the torch to the switch and throw it where it will be easy to pick up. As soon as you push the floorswitch, a TIMED RUN will start. Push the floorswitch, grab the torch and run like mad back to where you originally picked it up. Pushing the switch has raised a block underneath the wall sconce, and you need to light the torch before the block drops back.
Now return to the room where the rope needs burning, stand underneath it with the lit torch and press action. As the rope burns through, the boulder will drop, making a hole in the floor. Drop into the hole and proceed through the tunnel into a blue area, passing the skeletons on the wall. Turn left and into the first alcove on the left. Prise off the SOUTHERN SHAFT KEY.
Follow this path round till you reach a small opening, turn around, drop and grab and shimmy left (it doesn’t look like a shimmy wall, but it is), and pull up on the other side. Turn right, and pick up shells from under the skeleton, and kill the gladiator. Return back along the path, but this time take the other passage, and follow it until you arrive at the lava room.
The gate makes it an awkward jump to the left, but time a standing jump to the next platform whilst avoiding the fire. Angle a running jump to the next platform (be careful when lining up or you will walk into the lava and die) and pick up crossbow ammo. Now return to the door and this time jump to the platform on the right.
Facing the north wall, there is a platform with fire on it, and although you cant see it very well from here, there is an opening underneath the wall pictures, in the lava. Make sure you have full health, then do a standing jump from the left side of the platform onto the platform with fire, and immediately jump into the hole underneath the pictures on the wall,(third knight from the left) and into water.
Turn right (west), and pick up the CHAMBER KEY off the block,( A camera shot shows the lava pool being filled with water.) now return to the end of the room and turn right to swim through the cutting wheel and the spikes up ahead. Surface into the main pool which is full of water and now safe.
Swim through the west entrance and up when you reach the end climb out and pick up shells from the left alcove on the east wall. Now go to the right alcove on the east wall and use the crowbar to push the floorswitch. A door opens above the entrance door to the lava room,with a lions head inside. Go back to the alcove on the left and do a running jump to the slopes on the west wall.
Slide down the first and jump to the second. Jump with grab to the block with fire on it and shimmy to the right. Its safe to stand up in the corner. You will be doing a running jump with grab to the balcony on the east wall, so wait till the flames die then pull up and do the jump. On the balcony, face the east wall. Across the lava is the door high up in the wall you opened earlier. Shoot the ruby in the lions mouth. The block behind you will lower.
Turn round to face the wall, and prise off the WESTERN SHAFT KEY. Jump over the balcony into the water and go through the entrance on the west wall. That gate has opened now, so swim through the passageway and climb out at the end.
You are now almost on ground level in the huge green cave. In the centre of the room is a pedestal with the waterskin, protected by three gladiators. Dispose of them, then jump down to the ground and go and pick up the large waterskin. Now run forward to the south wall and climb up. Climb onto the gold block and pull up onto the next ledge.
At the T junction, turn left and use the Chamber Key. Kill the gladiator then run into the new room and pick up the MYSTIC KEYS. Kill the gladiator. Exit this room and turn left, run down the passage to the other end and turn right into a room with lots of goodies – 2 sets of shells and a medipack. (Your reward for finding all three secrets in this level) Leave this room and climb the blocks ahead and run down the hall to re-enter the Sanctuary of Eden.
SANCTUARY OF EDEN (revisited)
You slide down back into the area near the rolling ball, so go back through the crawlspace, past the rolling ball, and back into the area where you first met the huge spider on the left. Lo and behold, there’s another spider, just waiting to be blasted away. Dispose of him and when he’s gone to the great spider web in the sky, turn to the left to the bridge area.
There is an opening on your left which leads to a platform under the bridge, but you’ll return here later. Run across the bridge and use the Mystic Keys in the lock. Enter a sumptuous cathedral area, complete with beautiful stained glass windows, floor candles, and the strains of organ music playing. As you walk down the aisle, shoot the bats. Notice the keyhole on the upper level. Run ahead to a room which is shrouded in low lying mist and a closed door.
In the previous room, there is a ladder on the south side of the large structure on the east wall. Climb up, and collect the medipack at the top. Now jump over to the keyhole on the north wall, and use the Mystic Keys to open the door in the ‘mist’ room. Before you drop down to the floor, jump over to the ledge on the west wall and pick up shells. Climb back down the ladder and enter the new room.
Pass through the Saints’ Gallery and into an area where you’ll meet an old friend…the ahmet from the Last Revelation. In the cage are five unlit floor candles. There are scales here, so you know you are going to use the waterskins. Go to the pedestal and pick up the GUIDE FOR SCALES. It reads as follows;-

Use the Western Shaft Key near the receptacle next to the pedestal to start the water fountains, go there next and fill both of the waterskins….three litres in the small one, 5 litres in the large one.
You need to lure the monster out of his cage so that you can kill him, and then you will be able to count the lit candles in his cage and fill the waterskins with the right amount of water to open the trapdoor in the floor. Go to the scales. I poured the three litres of water from the small waterskin onto the left hand scale. The monster escaped, and although I killed him, he miraculously appeared back in his cage, but more important, only two candles were lit, so that’s the amount you need to use on the scales…two litres.
The small waterskin is already empty, so now combine the large waterskin with the small one, and you will be left with three litres in the small one, and the required two litres in the large one. Stand right up to the scales and pour in the two litres of water from the large waterskin. The trapdoor behind you is now open. (more important the ahmet is still in his cage.)
Jump into the pool and resurface in an almost identical room – an ahmet in a cage, and floor candlesticks. As before go to the alcove near the cage, and find the receptacle. This time place the Northern Shaft Key to activate the water spouts. Fill the large waterskin. (the small one should still have three litres of water in it. ) Use the small waterskin on the left hand scale. Shoot the ahmet and check the number of candles lit in the cage, there are four, so that’s the amount of water you need to balance the scales. Go back to the water pool.
- The small waterskin is empty and the large holds 5 litres at the moment.
- Combine the large waterskin with the small one so that the small one holds three litres and the large holds 2 litres.
- Empty the small waterskin, then combine the large waterskin with the small one
- The Large waterskin is now empty and the small one holds two litres.
- Fill the Large waterskin and combine with the small one
- The small waterskin now holds three litres and the large waterskin now holds the required FOUR litres.
Go to the scales, and pour the four litres on the tray, and the trapdoor behind you will open. Drop into the water and climb out in the third water room. Pick up the ORNATE HANDLE from the pedestal and use the Southern Shaft Key in the receptacle in the same alcove. Lure the ahmet out again by placing the contents of the small waterskin on the scales and kill him. There is one candle lit in the cage, so return to the water pool.
- Both waterskins are empty.
- Fill the small waterskin, then combine the small with the large one
- The large waterskin will now hold three litres and the small one will be empty.
- Fill the small one again, and combine with the large
- The Large waterskin will now hold five litres and the small waterskin will now hold the required one litre.
Return to the scales and pour out the one litre. The trapdoor behind you will open, so drop down and swim through the new tunnel. As you climb out, turn around and SHOOT THE SET OF BONES # 1 in the water. (You need to shoot three sets in the game to access a secret) Run down the passage and shoot the bats, pick up a medipack from the opposite side of the room.
Ahead is a pit with spikes, and above the pit, a boulder waiting to drop. Time your slide down the slope while the spikes are still in the middle then jump at the next slope and land in a room with two knights, switches protected by fire, jumpswitches and a ceiling ball.
First light a flare and locate the moveable block on the west wall. Pull the block out and to the side and enter the new corridor. On your right is another moveable block on the north wall. Push it in three times. Go to the west side of the block and push it in once.
Now light a flare and find the other block on the west wall near the entrance and pull it out once. Go to the south side of this block and pull it back once, then rush past the knights into the new small passage near the entrance and pick up SECRET # - EIGHT - A GOLDEN ROSE. Go back into the main room.
Combine the revolver and lasersight and shoot the ball from the safety of the block to the right of where you entered. A climbable block will raise under a jumpswitch on the west wall, so go there, climb up the block and pull the jumpswitch. This will raise a climbable block under the jumpswitch near the entrance door, so go there next. Pull the jumpswitch and the fire round the switch on the higher platform(to the left of the entrance door) will go out. Now find the moveable block on the east wall, pull it out and to the side.
Lure the knights to the other end of the room, then speed dash back to the new opening where you pulled the block. Enter the corridor, light a flare and push the block in as far as it will go, push the floorswitch. The fire has now gone out next to the ledge where you pulled the first jumpswitch. Go there now and push the floorswitch. This will raise a block on the east wall next to the platform with the other floorswitch. Climb up the new block and pull the second floorswitch.
Face forwards and climb over the dividing wall and pick up BINOCULARS. Line to face the opening on the opposite alcove. Beneath you are transparent ledges. Hop back from the edge, do a running jump to the transparent block, and another running jump over to the entrance. Shoot the jackals.
Turn to face the crawlspace on the north wall and climb up. At the end, turn round and jump to grab the higher ledge, then turn round again, and jump to pull the jumpswitch. Exit the crawlspace and climb the ladder on the south wall. At the top, turn right and grab the shimmy crack, and shimmy right until you can pull up . Load up with explosive ammo and turn to face the end of the shimmy crack. (south)
SHOOT THE SET OF BONES # 2, under the shimmy crack. Enter the new room. Light a flare and find the two pushable blocks with rings on them. Take the one on the left first, and push it forward as far as it will go. Run round to the south side of the block and push it three times. Run round to the west side of the block and push it into the alcove. Now go back to the entrance and find the second moveable block. Push it forward as far as it will go, run round to the north side of the block and push it three times, then back to the west side, and push it into the alcove. You’ll hear a door open on the upper level.
Locate the ladder on the end of the central structure and climb up. At the top run towards the pedestal, (a spike ball will drop from the ceiling) as you pick up the HATHOR EFFIGY, then jump over to the new entrance on the west wall, and follow the corridor round to a dark pit and a new entrance on the other side, with monkeybars overhead. Jump up and grab the bars and swing over to the other.
At the end drop and grab the edge and pull up. Turn around and look back over the pit. On the ground you’ll be able to see some bones. SHOOT THE SET OF BONES # 3 with the combined lasersight and revolver, the gate guarding the Golden Rose (near the other side of the rolling ball ) will open, then turn around and enter the new corridor.
In the room at the end pick up shells and crossbow ammo from the far wall. Go to the keyhole on the central pillar and use the Mystic keys, and watch the flyby as the it pans the new area. Go through the open gate behind you.
Jump in the water and open the blue ‘face’ tile on the east wall, then pull the underwater lever. Climb out onto dry land, run and jump into the second pool of water, and again open the blue face tile on the west wall. Swim forwards and up and pull up on the opposite side.
Run to the north wall and pick up shells and flares. Then return to the pedestal in the middle of the room and pick up the LEFT PORTAL GUARDIAN, and quickly jump back as a spiked ceiling ball drops. Turn to face the south wall, and pull up from the side onto the top of the structure with the closed door.( there’s a Death’s Head tile above the door). Follow the path, climb back up the ladder .
Turn right and return to the rolling ball area, and through the shimmy crack. Go to the right through the open gate and pick up SECRET# NINE – A GOLDEN ROSE. Stand infront of the tightrope and carefully make your way over to the double metal gates. Place the Portal Guardians on their stands on either side of the doors. When the gate opens, enter the dark passageway and go to the opening on the left wall.
Enter the last treasure room and pick up GRENADE LAUNCHER, UZIS, AMMO AND SHELLS. (Your reward for finding all the secrets in the level, and the game.) At the end, you will be treated to a great flyby of the next area.
CAVES OF EDEN
You enter a dark eerie room under an open sky. Go forward and climb over the wall and see the skeletons suspended in dark alcoves. In front of you is a switch on a platform, and to the left a closed door. Don’t run into the glistening trench infront of you or you’ll die. Light a flare and find the moveable block on the south wall. Pull it out and to the side (be careful of the deadly blue water as you run round the other side. Push the floor lever inside to open the gate on the north wall.
Push the floorswitch in the alcove, to start the swinging blades in the room on the north wall and to open the exit door at the end of the gauntlet. Go to the entrance to the new room. Ahead are spiked floor traps and swinging blades, with collapsible tiles in between both. There’s no easy way to do this, its just a matter of timing and a lot of good luck to get to the other side. The door closes behind you as you reach a new room with floating transparent blocks over a deadly glistening floor.
Do a standing jump to the first block, and a curved running jump with a curve to the right to the next block – this is quite difficult because the ceiling gets in the way. There is a medipack on the furthest block , but you’ll die if you try and get it because it’s under the blue death water. Now turn south and do a running jump to land on the switch ledge. Push the switch to open a gate on the north wall.
The switch is timed, so jump back to the previous block and do a running jump with grab to land in the new entrance before the door closes ahead of you . On the north wall is a moveable block, pull it out three times, then run round to the other side (west) and push it in to the wall, now go to the south side of the block, and push it once onto the first tile near the door . Go down the new pathway to a room with two more moveable blocks.
Go the block on the right and pull it out once (east), now go the north side of the block and pull it out six times. Now go the west side of the block and push it onto the tile which is furthest from the entrance door (third left). Go back down the passage way and pull out the block from the west wall twice, go round to the north of the block and pull it back seven times. Now go round to the west side and push the block in between the other two. (I’m not certain that you need to pull the last block all the way back to the entrance with the other two, since you can access the gate by just pulling it out – the choice is yours.)
Go back down the passageway and through the open gate on the west wall. After the gate, turn left, follow the path over the second dropped wall, straight ahead at the junction, then left and follow the path. Light a flare, find the moveable block on the south wall and push it in as far as it will go. Push crowbar switch # 1. The camera shows a closed black metal door.
Exit to the right and follow the path, go straight ahead at the junction, turn right past the grey dropped wall to get back to the gate at the beginning. At the gate (north) follow the path, light a flare and locate the moveable block on the north wall. Push the block in as far as it will go, turn right, push the block on its west side once, go to the south side of the block and push it as far as possible. Go back to the block on the north wall and pull it out once. Run round to the west side of the block and push it once. To your right is a crawlspace on the north wall. Enter the crawlspace and push crowbar switch # 2. Camera shows a closed black gate.
Run forward to the south block and pull it back twice. Run round to the west side of the block and push it in. At the T junction turn right, then right again at the next junction and follow the path. Turn right and light a flare. Push in the block on the north wall as far as it will go. Hop back, look up and climb the ladder. Go through the crawlspace and drop down into the cave. Push the block once to the east wall then pull it onto the square from the south side. You’ll hear a rumble as a brown block raises beside you. Climb onto the new block and grab the monkey bars. Swing across to the lever alcove and push crowbar switch # 3. The camera shows a closed black door. Return to the other side of the pit using the two ropes.
Exit south and turn right, follow the path to the black metal gate on your right(west) this is the black metal gate in the previous camera shots. Go straight ahead (south) and turn left, light a flare. Push in the block on the south wall as far as it will, roll and turn left into a new room. Push the new block from the east side and pull/push it to the grey square near the entrance. Climb up the new block into the lever alcove and push crowbar switch # 4. The camera shows the black gate is now open.
Exit north and go right at the junction, and right at the next junction, then follow the path. Straight ahead at the next junction, then right to the grey wall. Left at the next junction and follow the path to next junction then go right. Follow the path, right at the next junction over another grey wall and continue on the path until you can see the black gate ahead.
The black gate should be open, but in the earlier version of the game, the gate was built to open in the wrong direction. However you can still get past it. Stand far left and press the jump and forward buttons until you jump through to the other side. The fault was rectified after the game was released, so anyone installing it some time after the release date will find the gate open.
Turn right (west) and start for the stairs (note the caged smaller caves on either side at the foot of the steps.) As you enter the huge cave area, the camera angle changes. Before going up the stairs, turn right on the bottom step then right again and enter one of the caged caves and pick up flares.(the floor is safe in here on the ‘flare’ tile). Instantly you will be attacked by a club wielding warrior. Go back to the bottom step and over to the other side to pick up a medipack from the other small cave. Fight off another attacker. A boulder will fall as you exit the room, but you aren’t in any danger unless you enter that part of the cave.
In general, step only on the grey areas of the floor most of the glistening floor areas will burn you. Now head up the steps, fighting off more warriors as you reach the top. Jump over the gap, infront of you are suspended corpses over the deadly blue floor. Do a long running jump from the left of the ledge to the block near the left wall. , then turn north and a long running jump will take you to the block near the right wall, near the ladder. From the left side of the block, do a running jump with grab to catch the ladder and climb to the top.
At the top you’ll get a camera shot of Von Croy, and your first glimpse of the Magical Eden Stone – (shaped like an apple), the artifact you have struggled to obtain since the beginning of this game. Do a running jump with grab and catch the ladder on the wall infront. Jump up to the shimmy crack, shimmy right and pull up onto a flat ledge. Explore the area. Turn to face south. On your left behind a closed black metal gate is the Magical Eden Stone, nearby is a ‘hollow’ containing a crowbar switch and further on near the ‘pink’ area, a keyhole Steps lead you through a green area and back to where you started at the top of the ladder.
First of all then, push the crowbar switch which is located near the Eden Stone door. The camera shows a wall lowering in the higher level. Climb out and turn right and jump over to the steps on your left. Pick up flares. Ahead of you is a ‘pinkish area’ behind a closed gate. Turn left and find the floorswitch and push it. This opens a door in the pink area to your right, and gives access to a ladder. Now go to the keyhole near the Eden Stone Gate, and use the Mystic Keys. The outer gate opens in the pink room near the floorswitch. Go there next. As you enter, pick up shells and a medipack and kill two warriors. Make for the block near the ladder, avoiding the swinging blade and climb up to the higher level.
Follow the pathway right to the end, and do a diagonal running jump to the left ledge. Now go to the main platform. There are two switches protected by flames either side of the exit door. Near the right hand switch on the west wall, jump across the small gap and place the Eastern Shaft Key. This will open the gate guarding the Eden Stone on the lower level, so return there now back over the platforms and back down the ladder to the room with the swinging blade.
Kill any warriors en route. Pick up another medipack before you leave this room. Now go over to the other side of the room and pick up the MAGICAL EDEN STONE. As soon as you do you’ll get a great flyby of the top level near the switches and the exit door, and a skeleton spirit shooting deadly green rays. After the flyby a warrior will attack, so dispose of him.
Retrace your steps back through the swinging blade room and up the ladder. Run along the ledge to the end and see the reception committee who are waiting for you. Warriors, spiked tiles on the walkway, and that skeleton spirit. Walk to the end of the walkway, top up on your health and save your game. Then time do a diagonal running jump to land on the safe square between the two spike ones. Time a jump over the second spike tile,(or run through them when they are raised) and run on to the main area near the switches. Use the revolver to kill the warriors, but keep moving because the deadly rays from the skeleton will set you on fire.
When the warriors are dead, pull the switches (now without flames around them) to open the gate, which may take some time because the skeleton spirit is really accurate. Once the switches are pulled and the gate is open, you can top up on medipacks if the skeleton sets you on fire because there is water through the exit gate. As soon as the exit gate is open slide down the slope into the corpse infested pool below.
Climb out and go to the exit, and hear that familiar TR music as you slide down the slope. Run through the cave and down another slope, and watch the ending flyby of the waiting helicopter in the blue lagoon. The game ends as you approach the helicopter. This also ends the Mystery of Eden Series.
