Back to the Basics: Level 5

Lara drops into the center room into a water hole. Don’t start swimming right away. Instead, stand on the higher edge and pull up. Shoot three vases and collect shotgun ammo from two of them and find the shotgun in the hole on the South side. Then back into the water and swim forward. On your right is a tiny crack. It is possible to get through it but may take a few attempts. Behind it is Secret #1 (trident and flares). Continue swimming, pick up the small medipack on the way and let the current bring you to the place where Lara automatically stands up. Pull up on the one side which does not have spikes and watch the flyby of beetles and a skeleton approaching. Run around the spikes and into the nearby water hole to get rid of the beetles which will follow you in. You can dive further down through a crack here and will find Secret #2 (trident and shotgun ammo). Get out and take care of the skeleton with the shotgun by shooting it into the very same water hole.

Now run around the perimeter to find a ladder on the inner wall and climb up and drop on the ledge on the right. You will likely not make it with a direct jump across to the other side, so you need to jump on the nearby slope and across with a well timed jump and grab from there. It works actually easier by placing Lara with her back to the other side and turning her slightly to the left. Then side-flip onto the sloped ledge and grab the edge when she drops down. Pull up, backflip with twist and grab. On the other side take care of the skeleton if it has not yet tried to jump across to your side and killed itself in the effort.

The jump to the right is not yet possible, so turn left and make the long jump to the next ledge. The next jump sequence is a bit tricky. It works best when you make a running jump to the first slope with twist in the air so that Lara slides down backwards. Grab the edge and shimmy to the left. Pull up and backflip (no twist). Lara will land on the next slope backwards and slide down. Grab the edge again, shimmy all the way to the right. Pull up, backflip (no twist) and keep the jump button pressed for a follow up jump from the next slope and land on a safe ledge in front of a door. From here, jump across to the other side again to the small ledge and press the button there, which shows you a rope has been released a little further on. Also, two wraiths have been released, so drop down and run into the newly opened doors where you find the helpful bird statue. Also the door on the right opens when Lara approaches it and gives you a glimpse of a secret that you will collect later. Now, repeat the trip back up. Don’t jump to that button again, as we have already done that. Instead, continue your way to the next ledges and find the rope in front of you. Use it to swing across to the second button and press it. This opens doors down behind you, but don’t go there just yet. Instead jump to the next ledge on the right. From there you can make a running jump with grab that is again a bit tricky ‘around the corner’ to the next ledge and get to the third button. Press it to open the doors behind you, which you will be visiting later.

Now, back down and around the corner and into the newly opened doors to find a pool room with a pushable object which you will need to eventually get to the other end of the room and onto the marked tile. First, dive into the water though and find the crack at the bottom on the left hand side and swim through and get out on the other side in a small room. Pick up a Pillar and get a flyby of the now raised first block on the push object path and a skeleton waking up. Swim back, get out of the water and leave the room and go right to the other door we opened and place the Pillar there. Get a flyby of the third block on your push object path being raised. Go back there and shoot the skeleton out of the way. Then push the object as far as you can. Now step on the pad at the back to raise the second block (timed). Pull the object onto it and it will sink in. Step on the pad again to bring it back up and push it forward off the tile. Then continue to push it through to the marked tile and find that two ‘spike blocks’ have come out of the wall on the other side of the room. Go to the ledge at the entrance of the room and near those blocks. A monkey swing gets you to the first and a jump to the second. The spikes on top of the blocks won’t hurt you. Find the ladder upwards and enter a bluish room. Pick up the Knot and get a short flyby into the next room with a Pillar and two skeletons waking up.

Now for the tough bit. When you step on the red pad in this room a timed sequence starts. You will need to make your way down to the pool room and up the first ladder and repeat the familiar trip around the high ledges to the rope and enter the timed doors there. Remember to save in different slots when you have managed a particular sequence well. It is a lot of effort to get there but the timing as such actually isn’t all that tight. Once you made it, send the skeletons to a break with your shotgun (you cannot shoot them off the ledge) and pickup the Pillar. Drop down and find the receptacle for the Knot left of one of the bottom doors and place it. Slide in and jump at the climbing wall. Before placing the pillar at the top, make your way down using the ladders and jump to the lever and push it. This opens the door to another secret that we will collect later. Then get up and place the Pillar to fill the bottom part of this room with water. Swim in and through the crack and emerge in a new room where a fixed camera shows you the climbable piece where you need to go for a moment.

Jump up and make two jumps and then slide backwards and grab. Shimmy round the corner, pull up and keep jumping till you reach the ledge. Push the button and get a flyby of doors opening up high in the central rooms and a wraith making its way to bug you. Jump up to the ladder, climb up and in and crawl around the corner. Drop of the ledge into the hole but hold on as you will burn on the ground. You can shimmy around the left side as there is an invisible crack. Get out, take the small medipack and get back to where you placed the Pillar. From there run jump and grab the sloped ceiling across and monkey swing to the left hand side. Near the entrance you can drop and grab the wall and climb out around the corner.

Time to finally get rid of the wraith back at the bird statue. While there, walk into the now open left door and pick up Secret #3 (trident and Big Medipack). Then repeat the familiar trip back up to the doors you have opened now. Press the button inside and see that a block has now raised. Drop down to get rid of two more pesky wraiths and climb the ladder again, jump across and get on the new block. Ignore the monkey swing for now and instead make the jumps along the ledges on the outer wall and get into a new room with a floor lever. Push it and get a flyby of a rolling ball dropping into a hole in the center room and the effect of that – the big double doors opening.

Drop down and climb the ladder again and jump across. Now, before entering the double doors, get on the block again and use the monkey swing to get across. Drop, grab and pull up and jump into the corridor where the rolling ball came from to pick up Secret #4 (trident and shotgun ammo). If you enter the double doors first, a door closes there (you will here it) and you cannot get the secret anymore. Now, finally, venture your way into the double doors and see lights going on along the way and a skeleton rise on front of you. Ignore it for now (and also the ones coming from behind) and simply drop into the hole at the end and slide down.

Climb out on the other side. Find the lowest sloped pillar (the one with a different texture on top of it - which indicates that it is deadly to step on it by the way), jump up and shimmy all the way to the left. Pull up, backflip with a twist, keep jump pressed for the second jump and grab the ledge and pull up. Now let’s go for the next secret first. Make a long running jump across to the next ledge. Then turn left and jump across to the small ledge. Jump up to the protruding ledge where right now water is not flowing across (but will later). Position Lara at the edge of that ledge, facing North, on the right corner, slightly angled to the right. Take one step back and then hop back. Now make a well timed running jump, press action briefly in the air and land in the middle of the two sloped pillars (if done right). Jump up from there with a slight left curve and grab the monkey swing. Follow it and the door will open and reveal Secret #5 (trident and grenade gun).

Repeat the trip back up and this time go across to the other side. You can climb down at the other end for some flares. Then jump up onto the waterfall and get into the alcove behind to shoot two vases for some grenade gun ammo. Now either make a jump to the right from there or use the ledges to eventually get into the other alcove. Pull the object across to drain the water on the other side and allow you to pull the lever that was previously under water. Go there an push it. This does a few things: You get a flyby of the central room with boulder falling and a pole appearing where the central pillar was…this is your way out of here. Also the waterfall on the other side has been triggered, so that you can get out of here. Climb up, jump across the ledges and into the hole (now filled with water) that brought you in here originally. Swim through, climb out, eliminate the skeletons with your precious grenade gun and get outside, onto the block and use the monkey swing again to make your way to the central room.

Slide in and climb up to the pole. You see more skeletons waking up on the ledges. It is now possible to jump straight ahead and onto the ledge on the right to get Secret #6 (trident). Take care of the skeletons as you see fit. Then finally climb up the pole and get out of here…
