This walkthrough is meant as a general guide only. It
may not include every pickup or secret. There may also be alternative ways of
approaching situations within the game.
In a
dark and brooding cathedral, things are not as they should be. Evil pervades
even this holy sanctum. Lara must face and destroy this evil, and remove its
power - an all seeing eye, in order to restore harmony in this otherwise
tranquil place.
The level begins with Lara standing
in a gloomy alleyway with eerie background music. Arm weapons, head forward and
shoot the two rats. Proceed through the
corridor, into the Main Courtyard area. Head towards the south/east corner,
approach the second fenced tree from the end and pull it away from the wall.
Crawl into the crawlspace and lower into the room. Jump up and grab the jump
switch behind the arch in the north/west corner, raising a ladder in the Main
Courtyard (a camera shows you it's location). Continue through the room and
shoot the Zombie. Head towards the west wall,
reverse roll and shoot the rat sneaking up from
behind. Shoot the chest and pickup the flares.
Exit the room via the crawlspace and climb the newly raised ladder on the
opposite wall. Continue climbing up the gold metal lattice, then shift left
around the corner and drop to the ledge. Take a standing jump to the bridge and
another standing jump north/west to the alcove in the north ledge. Walk to the
west wall, step left to the edge and take two steps back. Angle slightly left,
take a standing jump and while in mid air, curve right to land on the ledge
(see screenshots A , B ). Take a standing jump to the ledge at the back wall. Facing south,
with Lara's back to the north wall, take a step in from the edge and angle
slightly left. Take a running jump and while in mid air, curve right to land on
the ledge. (see screenshots C , D ). [click to download savegame]. Face the wall, keep back and shoot the lion tile,
exposing a spike trap beyond. Take a standing jump into the alcove timed to
avoid the spikes and pull the wall switch, opening up the doors along the
entire east wall of the main Cathedral entrance. Safety drop to ground level
and head east up the right set of stairs.
Head south and step on the shallow
block on the right. Face north, run forward and step on the remaining two
shallow blocks, igniting the flame holders and raising a pole in the north/east
corner. Climb the pole, backflip to the ledge and head left around the slope.
Jump up and grab the small ladder on the south side of the ledge above and pull
up. Angle to face south/west and take a running jump and grab the ledge in the
corner. Crawl through the crawlspace and pickup the Entrance
Key. Drop to the ledge below and walk to the right side of the slope.
Walk up the slope as far as possible and take a jump and step back. Take one
step left, angle slightly right and take a running jump up the slope aiming for
the cut-out section of the slope. Immediately take a standing jump off to land
on the protruding east ledge. Use the Entrance Key in the east lock and enter
the newly opened door. Head to the north alcove to the edge of the slope in the
corner. [tip: Save your game] Slide down the slope, jump up and grab the jump
switch about midway down the slope and watch the coolest door animation ever.
Turn left, jump back and take a running jump through the spike trap to a series
of slopes. Place Lara in the alcove next to the slope that is opposite the
upper ledge. Stand at the front corner, furthest from the slope. Just face Lara
in the direction of the upper ledge. Side flip and jump-grab the ledge. Turn
left, take a running jump and grab the edge of the crawlspace and crawl in.
Climb the blocks and slide back to the upper ledge area. Safety drop to the
ground level, head to the south wall and enter the newly opened door on the
left. Pull the wall switch in the right alcove and climb the newly raised
ladder. Drop to the left ledge and take a running jump to the next ledge. Pull
the chain at the end of the corridor opening the trap door above the ladder and
get ready for a run through the circular saw blades. Keep to the middle, wait
for the left blade to move forward then run to follow it. Take a jump as the
blade on the right moves closer then run and jump to the ledge to clear the
blades completely. Climb the ladder to the top, shift left around the corner
and drop into the room above. Pull the wall switch in the west alcove, opening
a gate in the upper ledge area. (remember "Final Seal" wall
receptacle in this area) Climb back down the ladder, exit the corridor and
climb back up the pole in the north/east corner back to the upper ledge area.
Backflip to the ledge, turn right and head to the south wall. Take a running
jump back up the slope, aim for the cut-out section of the slope. Immediately
take a standing jump off to land on the east ledge. Head east and enter the
newly opened gate.
Just inside the gate, turn right,
take a standing jump to the column and shoot the breakable tile (with a crack
in the wall) in the corner ahead. Take a standing jump to the ledge and pull up
into an upper room. Pull the wall switch, moving a block in the main pool area
and drop into the hole in the floor. Crawl through the metal grate corridor
until you can stand and enter the north alcove.
Secret #1: Ignore the torch for
now and head right. Crawl through the crawlspace, shoot the cracked tile in the
north wall and enter into Secret #1. Pickup the large medipack and exit.
Pickup the torch
and exit back into the metal grate corridor. Head west, throw the torch
into the alcove ahead, crawl through and pickup the torch again. Walk up the
small slope, face south/west and take a standing jump out. Turn right, drop
into the hole in the corner to exit the room. Take a standing jump to the
column and another back to the ledge. Take a standing jump to the next column
and drop to the lower floor. Light the torch at the candlestick and drop it for
now. Take a standing jump to the block at the east wall of the pool, jump up
and grab the monkey swing and swing to the other side. Let go and grab the jump
switch, opening the doors in the north wall. Climb out of the water at the
north ledge and shoot the Zombie. Pickup the
torch, light the two wall flame lanterns and enter the newly opened gate.
Head left and push the block in the
east wall. Enter the small room and shoot the breakable wall. Pickup the Pool Room Key and exit. Head right and use the Pool
Room Key in the lock on the north wall. Pull the chain, head back to the pool
(save your game before entering the pool). Take a standing jump to the platform
in the middle of the pool. Turn right to face west and take a standing jump
into the water. Swim through the triangle opening and follow the left wall.
Pull the underwater lever at the end (it's timed), reverse roll and swim back
through. Swim forward, keep close to the top of the corridor so as not to get
snagged and make a sharp turn right at the end before the gate closes. Swim
forward, turn right at the end and the gate opens as you approach. Swim
forward, pull the underwater lever at the end to open the trapdoor above, swim
up and surface. Climb the block, pickup the First Seal
Piece and the small medipack in the
north/east corner. Pull the wall switch (it's timed), reverse roll and drop
back into the water. Swim down and follow the left wall into the left corridor
(west) before the gate closes. Surface back into the pool room. Swim into the
north opening and surface into a small room on the other side. Pull the wall
switch (it's timed too), reverse roll and drop into the water on the right.
Swim through the opening, then right, left, left and up before the gate closes.
Pickup the other First Seal Piece and drop back
into the water. Pull the underwater switch again (it's timed), reverse roll and
swim. Follow the corridor to the end and turn right before the gate closes.
Follow the right wall back outside and surface. Climb the south stairway back
to the Main Pool area. Turn right, climb the ladder and take a standing jump
back to the upper walkway. Turn left, head to the east wall and combine the
First Seal pieces. Take a standing jump to the right column, use the First Seal
in the wall receptacle and enter the newly opened door.
Turn right, head down the stairs
about half way and drop onto the east ledge. Head north and climb into the
crawlspace. Go to the east wall and turn around. Run over the pressure tile
(it's timed), climb back into the crawlspace and crawl out. Immediately
backflip then sideflip right into the door before it closes. Head down the
stairs and climb the spectacular spiral staircase in the north/east corner
(take a moment to enjoy this truly awesome piece of architecture). Enter the
south alcove, pickup the Demon's Contract and
watch the cutscene. Dialogue: "Ha ha ha...you come here to steal
my...soul. Well, take this contract. You must sell yours first Ha ha."
Exit the room, turn left and pickup the torch
in the west alcove. Descend the spiral staircase and enter the corridor on the
left. Arm weapons and shoot the Griffin. Leave
the torch for now, enter the corridor on the right, turn left and climb the
block on the right. Pickup the Chapel Key and
exit back down the right corridor. Head west, turn left and pickup the small medipack. Head back to the centre corridor,
pickup the torch, head north and light it on the wall flame lantern. Exit the
corridor out to the main lobby and enter the south/east alcove. Reverse roll
onto the pressure tile (it's timed). Then run/dash up the stairs before the
doors close. Leave the torch here for now, use the Chapel Key on the lock and
head down the stairs (remember the west corridor, secret location for later
on). Take a standing jump and grab (to change trajectory) over the spikes into
the Chapel.
Arm weapons and shoot the Zombie on the right. Head through the south corridor
to the end and face the north/east corner. Reverse roll onto the pressure tile,
run and drop into the hole in the south/east corner before the trapdoor closes.
Head down the stairs to the gate at the bottom. Pull the wall switch on the
right (east wall) and pickup the Second Seal on
the block in the small room. Head back up the stairway, pull the wall switch at
the top and pull up onto the upper floor before the gate closes. Exit the
corridor, return to the entrance in the north wall and take a standing jump
back onto the stairway. Pickup the torch from before, climb the stairs and turn
left back out to the main walkway. Take a standing jump north to the column,
drop the torch (make sure it doesn't fall off the column) and use the Second
Seal in the wall receptacle to open the door immediately to your left. Pickup
the torch, take another standing jump north and enter the newly opened door.
Pull the chain and watch the cool animated stone door open to the round room.
Stand next to each of the four blocks and light the four flame holders. Enter
the opened gate in the east wall (take the torch with you), turn right and the
level loads.
Enter the room, toss the torch, arm
weapons and shoot the Griffin. Shoot the chest
in the north/west corner and pickup the flares.
Head south and climb the block on the right. Take a running jump to the next
block south and pull the jump switch on the left opening a trapdoor at the far
end of the corridor. Jump back into the corridor, head east to the hole in the
floor and climb down the ladder. About half way down the ladder, reverse roll and
grab the jump switch on the inner wall to open a trapdoor access to the
waterway. Turn right, arm weapons and shoot the Griffin
emerging from the north/west corner. Enter the alcove, drop into the hole in
the floor where the previously mentioned trapdoor has been opened and drop into
the water. Swim through the corridor and enter the curved corridor on the left.
Swim right into a large pool, to be greeted by two
water rats. Swim left and pull up. Climb the block on the north wall and
shoot the two Fire Particle Demons in the room.
You can finish off the water rats from here as well. Take a running jump and
grab the higher block and climb into the crawlspace in the north wall. Pickup
the Grand Hall Key and head left. Turn right
down the corridor and stop just before the circular saw blades. Shoot the
wooden stool in the corner alcove for a medipac.
From the left side, wait for the left blade to move forward then run to follow
it. Take a jump as the blade on the right moves closer then run to clear the
blades completely. Turn right, climb the ladder and backflip to the ledge
behind.
Secret #2: Take a standing jump to
the west ledge and another to the north ledge. Head to the east wall, sidestep
right to the edge, take two steps back from the wall and angle slightly right.
Take a standing jump and curve left to land into the next alcove ahead (see
screenshots A , B ) [click to download savegame]. Take a standing jump
to the east ledge, jump up and grab the crawlspace and crawl into Secret #2.
Pickup the Revolver and 2x Revolver ammo and exit.
Safety drop to the lower level, head
west back down the corridor, turn right, don't forget to GRAB YOUR TORCH and
exit through the north door as the level loads.
Head down the corridor and turn
right into the alcove at the end. Drop the torch and use the Grand Hall Key in
the lock. Pickup the torch and enter the newly opened door. [Note: If you
did not take the torch with you, there is another in the small room on the
left. However, you will have to backtrack out of the Hall, left through the
circular corridor, then left and right back into the room with the four flame
holders to light the torch without catching on fire and return to the Grand
Hall.] Pickup the small medipack at the far
end of the Grand Hall. Use the torch and light a flame holder from the corner of
the block, drop the torch and arm weapons. Shoot the Giant
Cave Troll and pickup the first Final Seal
Piece from within the light beam on the pedestal. Use the torch and
light the other flame holder from the corner of the block, drop the torch and
arm weapons. Shoot the second Giant Cave Troll,
pickup the second Final Seal Piece from within
the light beam on the pedestal and exit the Grand Hall. Head left through the
circular corridor, then left and right through the room with the four flame
holders. Turn left, then right back to the Main Pool area. Take a standing jump
to the column and another back to the walkway. Turn right and exit via the west
gate. Head left (south) and drop into the hole in the floor. Crawl through the
space and climb into the upper room. Combine the two Final Seal pieces and use
the Final Seal in the wall receptacle at the end of the room. Safety drop
through the trap door on the right and shoot the Red
Demon (Horned Reaper) in the lower room. Head through the south
corridor, pull the chain and head through the newly opened doors.
Follow the corridor right to the
Mirror Room, alerting a Balrog Wraith.
Immediately run back through the corridor, drop into the small water hole on
the left (opposite the chain) and wait for the wraith to extinguish itself.
Return to the Mirror room and follow the path as shown in the mirror. Avoid the
black spots signifying spike traps and make your way to the trigger tile in the
north/west corner. Step onto the tile which lowers a rope and deactivates the
spikes. Head to the middle of the room to the rope and angle to face the
north/east corner. Jump up and grab the rope, shift left and aim for the alcove
in the corner to the left. Swing and jump into the alcove, pickup the Holy Cross (it's hidden in the hole in the floor of
the alcove), drop down and exit the room. Follow the corridor left, then head
north to the central structure with the checkered slopes. Turn left and enter
the west alcove. Use the Holy Cross in the north wall receptacle and enter the
newly opened doors. Use the Demon's Contract on the scroll pedestal on the left
and pickup the Demon's Eye on the centre block.
Secret #3: Head back through the
door to the east, through the centre structure and into the east corridor (The
Chapel). Turn left, take a standing jump over the spike pit and head about half
way up the stairs. Turn left into the west corridor and drop into the room
below which is Secret #3. Pickup the 2x large medipacks , climb back out and exit back to the stairs. Turn
right down the stairs and take a standing jump and grab (to change trajectory)
back into the Chapel. Head right, through the centre structure into the west
corridor and back to the Demon's Eye room.
Exit via the north door and head
left. Shoot the two Ghost Harpies and continue
west through the Main Courtyard area. Turn right into the newly opened gate in
the alley way the level loads.
Follow the corridor around to a
stairway. Head north up a few stairs and pickup the large
medipack. Head back down the stairs and step into the large room where
all hell breaks loose! Quickly run and climb the centre structure, arm weapons
and shoot the two Griffins, two water rats and the Fire
Particle Demon. From the north/east corner of the centre block, face
north/east and jump up and shoot the first Dark Angel Statue until it catches
on fire and explodes. Head to the south/east corner of the centre block, face
south/east and jump up and shoot the second Dark Angel Statue until it catches on
fire and explodes. Head through the newly opened stone door in the east wall.
Arm weapons, run down the stairs and turn right as a boulder falls behind you.
Head up the slope keeping close to the right wall to avoid the killer darts and
shoot the Griffin. Head down the slope, keeping
close to the left and follow the slope to the right. Take a running jump over
the spike trap, slide down the slope and jump with a curve right to avoid yet
another boulder. Turn right and get ready for another gauntlet run of saw
blades. Keep to the middle, wait for the left blade to move forward then run to
follow it. Take a jump as the blade on the right moves closer then run forward
to the left hand corner just before the spike pit (it's a safe spot). Angle to
face south/west, wait for the horizontal spikes to retract and take a standing
jump to the block. Immediately take another standing jump to the right hand
corner of the saw blades (it's a safe spot). Take a sidestep left, wait for the
left blade to move forward then take a standing jump over the right blade as it
moves closer. Keep running, jump over the next right blade to clear the blades
completely and stop at the top of the slope. Slide down the slope, jump and
grab the ladder ahead and climb up. Take a backflip at the top (do not pull up
onto the statue or you will fall... to your death!) arm weapons and shoot the three Griffins. Head to the east wall, jump over the
fire tile and climb the block on the right.
Double
Timed Run: Climb the stairs (save your game) and pull the wall
switch (it's timed). Reverse roll, run down the stairs, curve left and drop to
the floor. Turn left and take a standing jump with a right curve over the fire
tile, keep running right then dash to the west wall. Run left, left again and
take a running jump to the block. Reverse roll onto the pressure tile (also
timed) and run back out. Run left then right, dash a bit then run left into the
north corridor. Take a running jump onto the slope, jump over the fire tile to
the block, run over the spike tiles and jump and grab the monkey swing above
before both gates close. Hang for a moment before swinging forward as there are
two intermittent flames ahead. When the first flame subsides, swing forward,
wait for the second flame, swing forward and drop to the ledge. [click to
download savegame]. Arm weapons and turn right. Shoot the two Fire Particle Demons, jump over the gate into the
water below and swim into the underwater opening. Keep swimming as you are
whisked through the water and surface in the room at the end. Climb the stairs
and watch a cutscene of the Guardian Angel. Dialogue: Thank you, I am free
now. Watch the ending sequence as this awesome level sadly ends (but hopefully
only for now).
