When you leave level one and enter level two, the Stitch Idols you have collected from level one, will not be taken into level two. You do not need to find all, or any of the Stitch Idols to finish the game, but have fun searching for them!!!

Story

The story takes place in northern Spain:
When Caligula finally took leadership of the Roman Empire, a few veterans tried to resist him and the deviant Emperor condemned many of them to death causing the survivors to go into exile. One of their numbers knew, from one of his campaigns, an ideal site in northern Hispania. There they founded a prosperous underground city which was protected by a succession of temples dedicated to the greatness of the Roman Empire and of its conquests. They lived in peace and harmony with the local inhabitants, who helped keep it away from the sight of Rome. Unfortunately, a dreadful earthquake buried the main temple entrance and for almost to millennia no one heard of the underground city anymore; until a Spanish archaeologist found an old manuscript which mentioned the mythic city precisely enough to locate it. After a few researches around the site, he discovered the entrance of a huge cave network near to the temple’s location. What if the temple could be reached this way? The archaeologist then decided to call for help from the adventurer and archaeologist Lara Croft, in order to help him get to the temple. Lara, quite put down by her mishap with Miss Natla, decided to work freelance and search for the temple entrance by her own means. She soon discovered an entrance to a magnificent cave, but who can tell where it will lead her to?



Level one ~ The Prehistoric Cave

1st Cave Area

Lara begins by sliding into a cave. Ahead are some Flares, and on the rock to the right is some Shotgun Ammo. It’s not time to leave yet though! Turn back to the slope you came down when you entered the cave, and nip up into the NW corner alcove for the 1st Bronze Stitch Idol and a SMP.

Face the east wall, and see something is sitting on top of the pillar ahead. Make your way over there and stand at the east side of the pillar. Do a back flip onto the slope behind you, then as Lara springs forwards, hit the action key to grab the top of the pillar and pull up. Take the 1st Silver Stitch Idol and The Shotgun, then drop back to ground. That’s all the goodies in this cave taken, and you can now make your way to the south wall.
Slide down the slope to the passage below, and then go through to the end of the passage. At the end of the passage, look right. There is a hole with a tiger skin texture on the east wall, and this texture marks a climbable wall. Take a diagonal jump to catch the wall, and then make your way down to the bottom of the hole. At the bottom of the hole, go through the south crawl space and arrive in the next cave.

2nd Cave Area

On arrival, you will be greeted by a large angry scorpion. Gun him down and then notice a passage up in the NW corner of the room. This is for later so don’t waste your time going in there. Head to the south of the cave, and then to the medium sized pillar to the east. Stand at the east side of the pillar, where the sand is higher, and use action and up for Lara to jump and grab the top of the pillar and pull up. On top of the pillar, you will be standing on a small triangular area where space is limited. Keep to the right of the pillar, and take a running jump over to the south pillar. From here, jump SW to the pillar at the south wall, and then take a standing jump to the north wall pillar. Be ready when you jump to this next pillar because a harpy will come screeching from an alcove up in the cave wall. After the harpy has got its marching orders, face east and stand on the highest right side of the pillar. Take a running jump to the ledge at the east wall, catch it and pull up. Turn south, and then jump to the final ledge of this room. The camera angle will change giving you a nice view of the cave from below. Crawl out of the cave via the crawl space in the south wall, and enter the dark passages beyond the cave.

Traps And Searching In The Dark Passages

Run east in the dark passage, and the camera view will change. Light a flare when this happens because you need to see a hidden crawl space in the north wall of the NE corner of the passage. Go through the crawl space and drop down at the end for the 2nd Bronze Stitch Idol, and then continue on through the crawl space for the 1st Secret ~ Flares ~ Uzi Ammo. You are not finished here yet. Head around the corner to the right, for a LMP, and then see to the right of you there is a climbable wall on a pillar. Climb to the top of the pillar, and find the 1st Gold Stitch Idol. You can now make your way back to the dark passage.

Back in the dark passage, go south and then west to a climbable wall. Make your way up top, and kill the small scorpion that is waiting for you. Walk to the edge of the fire pit ahead, and hop back once. Wait for the fires to lower, and then take a running jump, without using action, to glide Lara glides over the fire pit.

Go forward to the south wall and stop. There is a hole in the ground to your right, and a slope leading up to the left. The hole spells trouble; as we all know by now that boulders like to rest in these places. Save game, and hop Lara backwards up the slope twice to activate the boulder. When the boulder is rolling your way, quickly run down the slope and to the right, and wait for the boulder to pass. When all is clear, go up the slope again, and at the top, climb to a higher south passage. Climb again to the higher west ledge, and then shoot the bats that show up.

Walk to the edge of the sloped pit ahead, and below you can see two fire traps and a slope leading down. Behind the fire traps is another slope leading up. Time the fires, and when they are low, slide to the bottom of the slope, then stand at the very edge of the slope leading up, and take a standing jump to the top.

Take out the bats arrive, and then walk to the edge of the ledge ahead. Using the right side of this ledge, make a safety drop down onto a lower ledge. Pick off the small scorpion in the pit below, and then make your way down into the pit. Climb up the other side of the pit, and kill the next bat that shows up. Save your game before the next task because it is quite a tricky one!

Walk east, to where you see the glowing light from a small fiery lava room. Drop down one level from the top of the upper ledge, and you will be standing facing over the lava room. The camera view will change, allowing you to see a climbable surface on the north wall, with a nasty fire trap bellowing out of the lava. This is where you need to get to next and it’s a bit tricky.

Walk Lara to the edge of the ledge and line up diagonally facing the climbable wall. Wait for the fire trap to lower, and then do a standing jump, with a tight left curve, towards the climbable wall. Lara should grab the wall if you have curved enough, and then when you are on the wall shimmy right to avoid the heat of the now threatening fire trap. Climb up a little way and you will now see a slope behind you, but there is also another fire trap nearby, so be sure and wait for it to lower before back flipping to the slope and springing off to the safe east ledge.

Enter the crawl space in the south wall, and Lara will arrive in a 3rd cave. Prepare to do battle!

3rd Cave Area

As you enter the cave, two harpies and two large scorpions will attack. Be careful as you run around the cave doing battle because the west side of the cave is trapped with falling debris. When you have taken out the enemy, it is now safe to go exploring, but still be aware of falling debris that you may not have activated yet.

First, make your way to the NW corner of the cave, and find the 3rd Bronze Stitch Idol at the west wall. Then make your way to the south side of the room, and go to the door pillars at the south wall. (we will enter that small cave later.) On the right pillar of the door, you will find a climbable wall on the east side. (Beware of falling debris here). Climb the pillar to the top, and then make your way eastwards to the end of the ledge. Take a running jump over to the ledge at the east wall, and here you will find the 2nd Silver Stitch Idol. Take your prize, and then return to ground.

You can now enter that small south cave through the pillared door. Go through until you come to a crawl space in the south wall, then go through and get ready to do battle again as two large and two small scorpions guard the small cave and its treasures. When the area is safe, go to the SE corner and take the Flares ~ Shotgun Ammo. Then head for the SW corner and grab the 4th Bronze Stitch Idol. You can now return to the large cave.

It’s time to go up!

Go to the SW Corner of the cave, taking care if you haven’t already activated the falling debris, and climb the rock at the west wall. Face north and climb the next rock ahead (space is limited on this rock so keep to the left of it). Jump north to the next rock, and then do a standing jump to the next rock. Take a running jump to the following north pillar, then jump up and grab the ledge above you to the north. Take a running jump from here to the final ledge at the north wall, and be ready to whip out your guns as two harpies and a bat attack.

Grab the shimmy gap on the west wall, and make your way left until you arrive on a ledge facing south, then pull up and take a running jump to the upper south ledge ahead. From here you need to take a long running jump over to the south, but you will be landing on a lower ledge and will lose a small amount of health, so be sure and top up your health before taking the plunge!

On the lower ledge, run forwards and slide to the south wall. On the west wall you will see a climbable wall. Make your way up the wall as far as you can go, then climb right and drop off onto the upper ledge. Two more harpies show up and it’s a tough job picking them off up here, so use your shotgun to bring them down quickly. When the area is safe, you will see the climbable wall continues up, but don’t go up there yet. Turn and walk to the edge of the ledge you are on, and face out over the room. Turn Lara slightly SE and see a ledge over on the south wall. Take a running jump to that ledge, and then take a running jump to the far eastern ledge, where you will find the 3rd Silver Stitch Idol plus SMP ~ Uzi Ammo. Now make your way back over the previous ledge and return to the climbable west wall.

Go up the wall, and climb off to the right. Climb up onto the north ledge and you will hear the Tomb Raider music play. The camera view will also change, revealing a crawl space in the south wall; but don’t go there yet because you have another task to perform first if you want to grab some more goodies.

Hit the look key to kill the camera view, and then make your way north. Jump to the next ledge, then drop down one level ahead and collect the 5th Bronze Stitch Idol. Turn and go back up to the higher ledge, then turn again and take a running jump north to grab a shimmy gap ahead. Shimmy right, until you can pull up on a ledge at the west wall, and notice to your right there is a climbable wall; but that’s for later. First light a flare to see a movable block in the west wall. Push it through twice to reveal a crawl space, and then go through the crawl space to the small cave at the end. Up on the ledge to the south, you will find the 2nd Secret ~ Flares ~ Uzi Ammo ~ LMP. Don’t leave yet because there is another surprise hiding in this cave. Light a flare and look on the south wall where you found the large med pack. There is another movable block. Push the block through twice to reveal the 2nd Gold Stitch Idol in a crawl space to your right, and then you can return to the ledges outside.

Use the climbable wall to get to the lower ledges. You will now have to do the west wall ledges again in order to get back up to where the Tomb Raider music played and the camera revealed a south wall crawl space. First you will have to get to a ledge you recognise, and this is a bit of a tricky jump from the ledge you are now standing on. The problem is that Lara has to make a running jump south, and land down on a lower ledge, but a normal running jump will take her over the ledge she needs to land on, and with a standing jump, she won’t make it. You need to position Lara on the ledge so that she can still make a three step running jump, but so that she takes off from the jump one step back on the ledge. To do this, stand Lara with her back to the north wall, and with her left foot on the edge of the ledge. Now face her diagonally in towards the west wall. Run towards the west wall and take a left curve after three steps. Jump on the third step, and the extra space caused by the diagonal run should allow Lara to take her jump one step back from the edge of the ledge, enabling her to land safely on the lower south ledge.

When you arrive on the lower ledge, you will recognise it as a familiar place. You now need to make your way to the south wall again where the climbable west wall was. As you did before, use the climbable west wall to get back to the top of the cave and to the ledge where the Tomb Raider music played and the camera changed view revealing a crawl space in the south wall.

This time you can jump to that crawl space which is a simple running jump with grab, and then enter the cavity and go through.

The Short Journey To A New Cave

As soon as you emerge from the crawl space, you will see another crawl space ahead; don’t go through yet though. Look to your right, and see a movable block in the passage. Pull it back once to open a way behind the movable block for later, and then head through the south crawl space. Drop down at the end and go ahead for a short way, and then stop and look right. You will see two slopes leading down to a fiery lava pool.

Save your game at the top of the slope, and then time the fires in the lava and slide down the first slope. When you see the next slope ahead, don’t try to jump to it, just let Lara slide on her own and she will land on the second slope. Now hoping that the fires are low, you can jump from the final slope and catch the south ledge ahead. Pull up and walk to the west end of the ledge, and then face NW. You can see a slope over the lava pool and that is where you need to jump to now. Take a running jump to the slope and then slide and catch the edge. Pull up and back flip with a mid air turn to catch a ledge behind you, and then pull up.

Pull up into the west passage, and make your way through until you see some steps ahead with fire traps on them. Stand at the bottom of the first step, hop back once and then take one step back. Take a standing jump to the first fire trapped step when the flame is low, then immediately stand jump to the second step, which is safe. Face Lara diagonally to the next fire trapped step, and take a standing jump to the next fiery step. As Lara is at a diagonal angle, she will be able to do another quick standing jump up to the final step. If you try to do a straight standing jump, Lara won’t make it because she will hit the step ahead and get caught by the fire.

At the top of the steps there is a slope to your right, which does have a purpose and I will explain that shortly. For now though, go through the crawl space ahead, and at the end you will see to your right the movable block you pulled out earlier back in the cave.

Note: If you have not moved the block then you will not be able to exit the crawl space, and you will have to go back through the crawl space and use the slope that you saw just before entering the crawl space. The slope will take you back to the previous areas over the lava pool, so that you can return to move the block.

Move on through the next crawl space and at the end, Lara will emerge out into a new cave

4th Cave Area With A Pool

Watch the flyby showing you the new cave area. Stay at the top of the cave because you need to collect some items before going down into the pool.

From the top ledge, face SW and take a running jump over to the pillar at the south wall. Face the long ledge to the north, and take a running jump over to it. Go to the north end of the ledge and face east. Take a jump over to the ledge in the NE corner of the cave, and then line up with the slope to the south. Standing on the right side of the ledge you are on; take a running jump towards a slope to the south. Slide down the slope, then jump with a right curve to land on a ledge at the south wall. Face the east wall and see it is climbable, then jump and grab the wall. Make your way down the wall, and then when you are near the bottom, climb left onto a ledge. Here you will find the 4th Silver Stitch Idol and some Shotgun Ammo. After stashing your goodies, jump over to the sandy ground below to the west. You pick those crocodiles in the pool off from this safe place.

You will be taking a long swim in the pool shortly, but there is one more mission to do in the cave area first. Swim to the North passage above the pool, and then go up the slopes ahead. Be careful at the end of the slopes that you don’t run over the edge and land back in the passage below. Just before the end of the final slope, look up and see a crawl space in the east wall and pull up into it. Crawl out and arrive above the pool. From here, you need to do a standing jump round to the right in order to land on a jagged ledge on the west wall of the cave. Now take a simple running jump over to the far south ledge for the 6th Bronze Stitch Idol and a SMP.

It’s time for some underwater exploration!

 

Backtracking For Idols And The 3rd Secret

Drop into the pool and take a deep lug of air because this next task will leave our poor Lara gasping. Save game and swim through the underwater tunnel in the north wall. Swim right and enter a small underwater cave, then swim north and go left around the rocks. Swim down and under the crawl space, and go through to the west. Take a right turn and the camera angle will change here. As the camera angle changes, you will see a hole above you which you will visit later; but for now you need to swim on ahead and enter the next underwater cave. Immediately swim right as you enter the cave, then go forwards and to the left around the rock pillar so that you are swimming northwards. Go straight ahead, and at the end of the route go right to find the 7th Bronze Stitch Idol on the cave floor. Grab the Idol and swim north, then at the north wall go west through a hole in the wall. Swim through and arrive out into another underwater cave, and here you can swim up for air. Fill Lara’s lungs again, as she is about to take another suffocating swim.

Swim down and through the crawl space in the north wall. Swim west and then swim through a tiny gap in the bottom of the west wall. Swim down and go north, then swim down to the bottom of the tunnel. Turn and swim west, then swim down to the bottom of this second watery tunnel. At the bottom of the tunnel swim north, and at end of the north passage swim up until you emerge out into a small dark cave. Swim ahead and climb out of the water. Enter a crawl space in the east wall, and head through to the end. You must beware in the following passages, because you will arrive at the top of a slope and it is vital to save your game before sliding down. When you reach the top of the slope, stand on the left side and save your game! Slide down, and when you are near to the second slope ahead, do a short jump so that Lara lands on the left side of the second slope. Now you will see why it was vital to save your game. As Lara slides down the second slope, she also needs to do a left curved jump up into a passage in the north wall to her left; it’s quite tricky and will take many tries, but it is quite possible to do.

Once this has been accomplished, go through to the small lava room ahead, and you can see some items over in the SW corner. You can either use the shimmy gap on the south wall to get to the goodies, or you can do a simple running jump to them; but either way you will still have to time a fire trap to make it over safely. When you arrive in the corner you will be greeted by the secret bell chime, and Lara can take the 3rd Secret ~ Flares ~ LMP.
There is one more thing to do before leaving. There is a crawl space in the east rocks next to where you picked up the 3rd Secret. Go through that crawl space for the 3rd Gold Stitch Idol, and then crawl back out of the gap.

You can now use the shimmy gap on the south wall to get back to the entrance of the cave, or you can do a rather tricky left curved jump to get back; but again you will again have to watch out for that fire trap.

Back at entrance of this small lava cave, stand Lara at the edge of the passage, then face her to the right so that she is facing the slope she arrived here by. Take a standing jump to the slope, then grab it and do a safety drop down into the cave below.
Leave this small cave via the crawl space and arrive back at a familiar place.

You are back in the 2nd Cave at the start of the level, and you now need to go all the way back through the various caves and passages to get back to the 4th Cave Area With A Pool. First gun down the three large scorpions who decided to show up, and then follow the walkthrough from the 2nd Cave Area to get back to the 4th Cave Area With A Pool.

4th Cave Area With Pool ~ Revisited

So you made it back, and it’s now time to take another dip in the pool. Grab some air and swim down again through the north passage. Swim through like you did before, but when you see the camera angle change, swim up through that hole above you. There is a tight gap to the east, and you need to jiggle Lara about a bit to get her though it, but eventually she will swim ahead. Swim down to the bottom of the tunnel, and then swim north. Continue on through the underwater passages until you see a passage leading up, and another passage leading down. Take the passage up, and at the top you can grab some air. Then return down the passage, and swim into the passage leading down.

Swim down and to the east, and then at the bottom of this passage, swim through a crawl space to the north. Swim up and then swim west, and Lara will arrive out into the 5th and final cave area.

5th Cave Area With Pool

As you arrive in this final cave, the camera view will change and you will see a group of crocodiles heading your way; but don’t panic!! There are two low ledges in the pool that Lara can climb out onto, and from there you can safely pick off those crocs! On the north low ledge you will find the 8th Bronze Stitch Idol and a SMP, and then you can swim to shore; but take care around the temple area because you could get hit by falling debris.

Make your way to the south wall, and you will see a slope leading up with a climbable wall above it. You will use the climbable wall later, and for now you need to head east along the south side of the pool where the water is shallow. Keep going until the water becomes deep, and then look right for a flat area on the south slope. Jump to the flat area, and then take a running jump to the next flat area on the slope to the east. Still heading east, take a running jump to the higher rock at the waters edge, and then jump to the final rock at the east wall.

There is a route to the north now, but before you take it, look in the dark hole in the SE corner nearby, and you will find the 9th Bronze Stitch Idol.

You can now proceed north and jump to the first higher ledge. Run and jump over to the next north ledge and then jump up and grab a ceiling ladder. Make your way ahead on the ladder, and when you get to the north wall a harpy will start blasting away at you. Continue on until you can drop off onto a safe ledge at the end of the ladder, and then try and take the Harpy down from this ledge if you can.

Proceed westwards and jump to the next ledge. Take a running jump over to land on a longer west ledge, and then go to the top of this ledge where the north wall is climbable. Climb up and then climb off to the right. Drop back from this ledge and shimmy right until you can pull up into a crawl space half way along the shimmy gap. Look left and go inside the crawl space to find the 10th Bronze Stitch Idol, and then crawl out and hang back from the shimmy gap. Shimmy right, and then pull up onto a ledge at the north wall.

Face east and do a running jump down to a lower ledge, then run along this ledge to the end where two bugs will attack. Kill the bugs and move on to the south. At the end of the ledge, pull up on the slope ahead, then immediately jump to a higher ledge. Another bug attacks, so quickly gun it down and jump to the small triangular ledge to the south.

This next jump is a bit tricky as you can see. Lara is on a small triangular ledge and she needs to take a running jump to the shimmy gap at the south wall. In order to take that three step run and jump, she will have to be placed facing SW so that she can run along the longest side of the ledge. Line her up SW and then run. When Lara is on the final point of the triangle, jump and curve her left to grab the south shimmy gap. Shimmy around until you can pull up onto a ledge at the east wall, and then run and jump west to a crawl space. Grab the crawl space and make your way inside.
At the end of the crawl space, Lara can stand up and you will come to a gap between the passages. It is possible to jump over to the next south passage but a block is plugging the way and stopping Lara from proceeding through it. Remember the climbable wall above the slope? It’s there, to your left. Grab the climbable wall and climb down. Climb right, and then climb down a bit further. Climb right again and then climb up and into a crawl space in the south wall. Go through to a small cave and three bugs will attack. After taking them down, pull up onto the north wall ledge and find a movable block to the right. Pull it back once, and then return to the climbable wall outside. Climb down and to the left, then climb left again. Make your way back up to the upper south passages, and climb off to the right. The block is no longer hindering your way, and you can now head through the newly opened passage.
At the end of the passage, a bat shows its face, so send him packing and move on to the next passage round to the right. At the end of this passage, there are two crawl spaces, one ahead and one to the right. Take the one to the right and drop down onto the temple roof. If you take the other crawl space, Lara will fall to her death.

On the temple roof, make your way towards the north wall, and a bug will show up. Blast him away and then jump to the north wall ledge where the floor lever is. Use the lever to open the temple doors, and then get back on the temple roof. Kill the bug that shows up, and then re enter the upper crawl space. Go back through the crawl spaces and passages until you reach the climbable wall again. Climb down to the slope below, and then drop onto the slope and slide safely to ground.

Make your way towards the temple, taking care if you have not activated the falling debris traps yet. Enter the temple and go through to the back of the first room. There is a spike pit ahead in the darkness, so light a flare and take a running jump, without action, to clear the spike trap pit. Make your way through the next small room, and you will be transported to level two.



Level Two ~ Felinea Porticus

Run through the tiny room ahead, and you now face a beautifully decorated room with a central river. Walk into the room and watch the short flyby showing you some hints. Ahead of you is the river with a currant that will sweep Lara away, not to her death but to other areas, so it’s vital to keep out of the river once you start your explorations, or you will end up back at the start and will have to make your entire trip again. There are some small areas of the river that are calm though, and this is to enable you to gather some goodies, but we will come to that later.
Notice over the river there are closed double doors, and to the left of the doors is the receptacle for the combined halves of the Cartouche. You will be collecting both halves of the Cartouche and returning to this room to use them later. The Cartouche pieces lay in two separate areas, and it’s up to you which route you take first.

The 1st Half Of The Cartouche

Go to the north side of the room, and pull up on the pillar at the north wall. Face east and take a running jump to the crawl space in the east wall. Go through and stand when you can. Walk ahead carefully because there is a spike hole just ahead. Take a jump over the spike hole and grab the edge of it. Pull up and proceed through the crawl space until you see the camera angle change. You can now see from this view, that there is a wall ladder below the crawl space that Lara is in. Turn and drop out of the crawl space, then grab the wall ladder and climb right. When you are on the right side of the wall ladder, climb up past the crawl space then back flip to a ledge behind you.

Face north and you will see a slope leading down. Slide down, but keep to the right so that you don’t over shoot the ledge at the bottom of the slope. Jump west to the next ledge, and then walk forwards to trigger a flyby which will give you some hints.

Face west. You now need to do a rather tricky banana jump around the pillar ahead of you and make it down to a ledge by the river’s edge behind the west pillar. Walk Lara to the west pillar ahead, and then hop back twice. Place Lara’s right foot on the right side edge of the ledge, then take a long run and jump towards the right hand corner of the west pillar. Just before you meet with the pillar, curve Lara slightly right and then jump, then when Lara is in mid air, curve her left to glide her around the west pillar and land her on that low ledge by the river’s edge. When the jump is successful, Lara will still be facing west when she lands, and you can see a high pillar ahead. Walk back while facing the pillar, and then back flip on a slope behind you. Spring forwards, grab the top of the pillar and pull up.

Face north and jump to the next ledge ahead. There is a ceiling ladder above Lara, and if you walk a short way north you will trigger a bug to attack.

Use the ceiling ladder to get across the room to a safe ledge at the east wall. Face north and take a running jump to the next ledge ahead. (The ceiling is low ahead so you need to keep Lara on the left side of the ledge when taking the running jump or she won’t clear the ceiling.) Safely on the ledge now, face Lara west and take a running jump to catch the top of a slope ahead. Pull up, then slide and jump the ledge at the west wall. Face NE and jump to the jagged pillar in the river, and then jump east onto a slope ahead. Slide down and drop into a small water hole where the river currant is not active. Carefully swim out west to collect the 1st Silver Stitch Idol and some Shotgun Ammo, but do not swim further on or Lara will be swept away. Turn and swim back to the small water hole, and climb out facing west. Jump to the bottom of the slope and then jump over the slope using action, so that Lara grabs the jagged pillar beyond the slope and can pull up to safety.

Stand facing north and you can see a small yellow floored alcove over the river in the north wall; this is where you are going next. Stand Lara at the back of the jagged slope, then take a standing jump forwards to land on a low ledge below the jagged pillar.

Note: Alternatively, you can try taking a running jump from the top of the jagged pillar making a curved jump left to grab the north wall alcove, but this way is slightly harder.

If you decided to take the easier route, you should now be standing on the low ledge below the jagged pillar. Face west, and see a shimmy gap in the west wall. Jump to the gap and then shimmy right until you can pull up into an alcove. Face east and you can now see the yellow floored alcove to you left in the north wall. Take a running jump with a slight left curve to glide Lara into the alcove. Face SE and jump to the next alcove, and then face NE and jump to the lower ledge in the water.
Face north and jump to the next pillar ahead, then whip out your guns as a bug attacks. Face north again and jump to grab the wall ladder on the north wall. Climb up and see a closed door ahead. Turn around at the door, and look up on the south wall for a hang lever on a cat tile. Use the hang lever to open the door, and open up the way to a new room.

Run down the slope ahead and enter the new room. You can see the 1st piece of the Cartouche on a pedestal ahead, but don’t take it yet. First climb the ladder on the west wall and shoot the pot for the 1st Bronze Stitch Idol and the Shotgun, and then return to ground.

Head over to the pedestal and take the 1st Half Of The Cartouche. Blades will pop out from the pedestal and they shouldn’t cause much damage, but there is a bug on its way that will, so take him down quickly or he will batter Lara’s health; especially as she must not move from the pedestal ledge due to spikes now being active in the room. When the coast is clear of bugs, use the cat tiles on the floor to get to the entrance of the room.

You now need to decide if you want to go exploring for more goodies, or return to the fist area of this level and proceed with finding the 2nd half of the cartouche.
If you want to move on without the added secrets and Stitch Idols then follow the instructions for Leaving The 1st Cartouche Room. If you want the added Secrets and Stitch Idols, follow the walkthrough from the title Taking Everything.

Leaving The 1st Cartouche Room Without Getting The Added Goodies

Return up the slope, but take it carefully because a bug is waiting on the slope, and also a spike ball will fall when you are half way up. Go up the slope backwards, then as soon as you hear the spike ball fall, run back down the slope and jump to the left cat tile in the Cartouche room. When the spike ball has passed, jump back to the slope and go up. At the top of the slope, drop down to the lower ledges, and then drop into the river.

Let the current take Lara and she will be swept back towards the start of the level. Eventually she will stop and you will see a yellow slope to the west on the river floor. Walk over the slope and swim west. Swim through the following passages (there is only one way to go) and keep going until you seemingly come to an area where you can’t proceed. But you can, there is a crawl space under the pillar in the SE corner. Swim under the pillar and through the crawl space, and then simply make your way through the following passages until Lara arrives back at the first room of the level.

Taking Everything

So, you decided to take the added secrets and Stitch Idols? Here’s how to proceed.

After grabbing the 1st half of the Cartouche, use the cat tiles to jump back to the slope at the entrance of the room. Forget the slope and jump to the cat tile at the west wall. There’s a shimmy gap above this tile, pull up to it and shimmy right. Keep going right until you are above the Cartouche pedestal and can pull up into a crawl space. Go through the crawl space, then turn and save game. As you crawl out of the crawl space the wall below is climbable, but as you begin to climb down you will alert a fire wraith. As soon as the fire wraith appears, drop from the ladder into a small water hole below, and then roll about to get rid of the wraith. Do not go into the main river to the south yet!

Face the waterfall to the west and jump over to it. Look right and see a crawl space down in the north wall, and crawl through to a shallow water cave for the 4th Secret ~ SMP ~ Shotgun Ammo. It’s not time to leave yet, so go to the NE corner where Lara can stand, and light a flare. Pull up into a passage in the north wall, and then go forwards to a crawl space to your left. Crawl through for the 1st Gold Stitch Idol, and then return to the shallow water cave below. Return to the waterfall outside and save your game here because the next task is quite difficult.

Jump into river to the south and let the currant take Lara through the first passage ahead. She will then go right and then left and continue on through another passage. This is where you need to take note. Let the currant take Lara and do not use the swim key. Keep Lara high in the passage and wait until you have passed some blue seaweed and can see a second seaweed plant ahead. Just before reaching the second seaweed, there is a crawl space to the right in the west wall of the passage. You can try to glide Lara into the crawl space before the blue seaweed, or you can fight the currant to make it into the gap; either way it is a bit tricky but you will make it in the end.

When you have made it into the crawl space, swim ahead and then climb out at the end. Make your way through the dark passages until you come to a closed door ahead. Approach the door and it will open for Lara. Go through to the new passage and the secret bell will chime. Go straight ahead to the wall lever at the end of the passage, and collect the 5th Secret ~Uzi Ammo x 2. There is no need to use the lever just yet, it’s for the trap door in the floor by the lever, and there are some more goodies to grab before you leave this place.

Head back up the passage for a short way, and keep an eye in the ceiling for a hang lever. Use the hang lever and the door you entered here by will close. Go to the door and look left for a crawl space that has been revealed, which leads to a hidden cave. Back down through the crawl space and drop. You are now on a slope and are heading down towards another slope, but don’t jump yet. Allow Lara to glide onto the second slope, then slide and jump to the next slope ahead. Slide and jump again landing on another slope, then slide onto the lowest slope ahead and jump to catch a wall ladder on a pillar ahead.

Now make your way down to the bottom of the cave and head to the NW corner. There is a slope at the north wall. Jump over the slope and grab the 2nd Silver Stitch Idol, and then return to the ladder on the pillar and go up to the top. Pull up on the pillar, and then jump to the high mound to the west. Go to the top of this mound and you will find the Uzis.

There is a ceiling ladder above the Uzi pick up place. Grab the ceiling ladder and make your way forwards. You will come to a part of the ceiling ladder where Lara seems to not want to proceed, but if you take her to the left towards the wall, and then keep close to the wall, she will hook onto the next part of the ceiling ladder and move on. Continue on towards the crawl space you entered here by, and when you swing round to the slope by the crawl space, keep the action key pressed and hit the F5 key to save your game because this next part is quite touch and go. You need to line up with the slope so that when Lara drops she doesn’t land on the slope, but grabs the top of it. It takes a few tries but do remember to have the action key pressed if you reload using the ‘save game’ while hanging from the ceiling ladder. Eventually Lara will grab the slope and can make her way down the back of it, which is climbable. At the bottom of the ladder you will find the 2nd Gold Stitch Idol.

Do a safety drop to ground, and then head to the SE corner to use the ladder on the pillar again. Climb to the top and jump back to the mound. Grab the ceiling ladder again and swing towards the slope, but when you reach the slope this time, go left and line up above the crawl space. Drop Lara and grab the edge of the crawl space, then crawl through and return to the lever at the east end of the passage. Use the lever and the trap door in the floor behind you will open, revealing a hole down to ground. Use the ladder on the west side of the hole to get to ground, and see you are back on the slope leading to the 1st half of the Cartouche room.

Return up the slope, but take it carefully because a bug is waiting on the slope, and also a spike ball will fall when you are half way up. Go up the slope backwards, then as soon as you hear the spike ball fall, run back down the slope and jump to the left cat tile in the Cartouche room. When the spike ball has passed, jump back to the slope and go up. At the top of the slope, drop down to the lower ledges, and then drop into the river.

Let the current take Lara and she will be swept back towards the start of the level. Eventually she will stop and you will see a yellow slope to the west on the river floor. Walk over the slope and swim west. Swim through the following passages (there is only one way to go) and keep going until you seemingly come to an area where you can’t proceed. But you can, there is a crawl space under the pillar in the SE corner. Swim under the pillar and through the crawl space, and then simply make your way through the following passages until Lara arrives back at the first room of the level.

 

The 2nd Half Of The Cartouche

Pull out of the water and make your way to the south end of the room where the river begins. Drop into the river and swim south until the currant takes Lara into a watery tunnel under the room. Let Lara drift and she will finally float out into the pool of a new room. Stay in the pool for now.

In the room, there is a closed gate with the 2nd half of the Cartouche behind it, and your task here is to open that gate of course! It’s simple enough; find six wall levers and the item is yours, but finding those levers is another matter!

1st Lever: In the pool, swim to the NW corner and find the small hole in the floor. Swim down the hole and at the bottom swim west. Swim right and then up to find a small room above you. Pull out into the blue room and use the lever on the east wall. You will get a shot of the grated door outside. Return to the pool room.

2nd Lever: Climb out of the pool and have guns too the ready because five leopards will attack. After gunning them down, head to the east wall of the room and face north. Look left and see there are some pillars. Look on the south side of the second pillar down and find the lever to open a trap door on the other side of the room.

3rd Lever: From the lever pillar, face west and go straight ahead to the last pillar. Light a flare and see the hole in the floor you just opened up. Drop down the hole and head through the west crawl space. Drop down into the red room at the end of the crawl space, and shoot the pot to reveal a lever on the east wall. Use the lever and then return to the pool room.

4th Lever: Go to the NW corner of the room, and enter the crawl space in the north wall. Go through to the pink room and use the lever on the south wall. Return to the pool room.

5th Lever: Go to the NE corner of the room, and see to the north there is a slope leading up; but don’t go up there yet. Go left of the slope, and then right at the pillar into a dark area by the north wall. Light a flare and you will find the 2nd Bronze Stitch Idol at your feet. Stay in this place and face west. There is a pillar ahead with a climbable surface. Jump and catch the pillar ladder, and then climb to an upper room. Climb off to the left and enter the green room. Use the lever on the west wall, and then return to the pool room below.

6th Lever: Go to the slope at the NE corner of the room and head up. Be cautious when you see the cat tile near the top of the first slope because when you step on it two skeletons will be on their way; but you do need to stand on that tile because there is a room above that you need to pull up into. Stand on the edge of the cat tile and face south. Jump and grab the floor of the room above, and pull up. Go through the short dark passage and enter the brown room. Light a flare and find the 3rd Bronze Stitch Idol in the SE corner, and then use the lever on the west wall to finally open the gate in the pool room.

Drop back down to the slope and run to the newly opened gate for the 2nd Half Of The Cartouche, and then you can either use the shotgun to shoot those annoying skeletons into the pool, or you can make your way back up the slope avoiding them. At the top of the slope, go left and then all the way to the end of the upper slope. There is a hole in the floor where you can drop back down to the river room.

Combine the two halves of the Cartouche and place then in the receptacle to the left of the double doors. The doors will open and you can go through to the final areas of the level.

A New Pool Room to Investigate

Enter the new room and watch the flyby, because it will give you plenty of hints for this large area. Ahead of you is a pool, and before that are two pillars, one to the left and one to the right. Go to the left pillar and find a hang lever on its east side. Use the hang lever to cut off a currant in the pool, and you now have access to a crawl space in the south wall of the pool. Drop into the pool and swim to the SE corner. Swim through the crawl space in the south wall, and then make your way through to the end of the tunnel. Swim up the hole in the NW corner, and pull out into a small room. Use the lever on the east wall to lower a rope out in the main room, and then swim back to the main room.

Before leaving the pool, swim to a hole in the NE corner, and grab the 4th Bronze Stitch Idol.

Pull out of the water, and go to the north side of the room. Enter the north passages then head right. At the east end of the passage, find the 5th Bronze Stitch Idol and some Shotgun Ammo, then grab your guns as a bug comes buzzing up the passage towards you.

Face west and walk forwards until you see a slope leading up to your right. Jump the slope then turn and face south. Look up and see a ladder above and jump to it. Climb to the top of the ladder, and back flip into an upper room. Go to the north side of the room and find a lever on the south side of the right pillar. Use the lever to flood an underground chamber in the SW corner of the room. You will see the purpose for flooding the chamber later, and if you drop into the chamber before it’s flooded you will face the wrath of a fire wraith and will die in this lonely place.

Return to the lower passage and head west until you see a hole up in the ceiling. There is a ladder to on the wall to your left under the hole. Climb the ladder to the top, and enter a black grated tunnel. Make your way to the end of this tunnel, and see a lever at the end; but don’t use it, it’s red herring and you will merely close the gate to the next area. Look right and up in the west wall and you will see a crawl space. Pull up into the crawl space, and drop down on the other side. Go north and enter a second black grated tunnel. Make your way through the tunnel, and half way through you will see a shot of a crawl space up in the wall outside. Spikes are active in the crawl space and your next task is to turn them off.

Make your way to the end of the black grated tunnel, and then walk out onto a ledge above the room where you flooded the underground chamber. Look right, and jump to the small ledge you see to the east. Enter the crawl space in the south wall, and find a lever to use. The lever will lower a rope in the flooded chamber room. Return to the ledge outside, and jump to the rope. Shimmy around to face the south wall and you will see a hang lever up on the south wall, just above the flooded chamber. Swing to the hang lever and use it to open a gate above the south wall crawl space, then as Lara drops you will see why the chamber needed to be flooded, and it will break her fall. Climb out of the flooded chamber and go back to the lower passages again.

Once again, make your way up through the hole in the ceiling of the passage, then go back through the first black grated tunnel. Go through the crawl space again and enter the second black grated tunnel. Head to the end as before, then jump back to the ledge in the flooded chamber room. Grab the rope again, and this time swing high above the crawl space in the south wall and grab the upper alcove in front of the newly opened gate. Enter the new gate and run ahead through the third black grated tunnel. Half way through the tunnel, you will see a closed grated door to your left; you will be back here to use that shortly but first you need to open it. Run ahead through the passage and the grated door ahead will open for Lara, allowing her access to an orange room.

Enter the orange room and the door will close behind you. Go to the centre of the room and take the 1st Star Key from the pedestal. You will hear a hatch open and two bugs will show up. The hatch that opened is above the pole, also in the centre of this room. Walk towards the pole and kill the next two bugs that arrive. Grab the pole and climb to the upper rooms, and then back flip off to the south room. Light a flare and find the receptacle for the 1st Star key on the south wall. Place the Star key and the grated door back in the third black grated tunnel will open. Shoot the pot to you right and collect the 6th Bronze Stitch Idol and some Flares.

Walk to the pole and see another room to the north. Jump to the room but be careful when entering as the floor is spike trapped. Look on the ceiling and follow the blue path to make it safely around to the pedestal at the north wall. Take the 2nd Star Key from the pedestal, then make your way to the east wall. Face south and walk to the south wall where the floor is safe. Light a flare and find the 3rd Silver Stitch Idol and a SMP in the dark corner. Return to the pole using the safe blue path on the ceiling, and slide back down to the orange room. Go up into the NE corner of the room and use the 2nd Star Key on the receptacle at the west wall; this will open the gate for Lara to leave, and she can return to the black grated tunnel outside.

Make your way through the black grated tunnel, and stop at the newly opened door to your right. Face east, and see the rope you lowered earlier in the main room above the pool. Take a running jump to catch the rope, then swing and jump off onto the top of the left pillar. Collect the 7th Bronze Stitch Idol, then kill the bug that attacks. Jump back to the rope, and this time swing SW towards the south end of the lowest black grated tunnel. Jump from the rope to land on the top of the black grated tunnel, then run to the south end and collect the 4th Silver Stitch Idol and a SMP.

Face west, and do a standing jump forwards from the edge of the black grated tunnel to the upper west black grated tunnel, and pull up. In the west wall you can now see the spike trapped crawl space, and deactivating those spikes is your next task.
Turn and face east, then stand at the edge of the black grated tunnel and do a standing jump forwards to the upper east black grated tunnel, and pull up. Run to the north end of the tunnel and save by the wall lever, because you are about to do a rather tight timed run.

The lever will raise a hatch over on the right side pillar in the main room, and there is a hang lever above the hatch. Your mission is to use the hang lever before the hatch lowers or Lara will fall to her death. Here’s how you do it.

Use the wall lever, then quickly turn and run towards the centre of the tunnel where you see the grated door sticking up. Stop just before the grated door and drop back, grabbing the edge of the tunnel. Shimmy left until you are above the open grated door, then drop. Lara will land just inside the tunnel. Turn and jump to the rope, then line up with the SE pillar and swing to it. Two swings should be suffice for Lara to be able to jump from the rope and land on top of the pillar. Quickly drop back from the pillar on the east side, and then drop Lara while using action so that she grabs and uses the hang lever below her. Using the hang lever has now deactivated the spikes up in the west wall crawl space.
The hatch will break Lara’s fall, so it must still be raised after using the hang lever, and if it isn’t then Lara will fall to her death. If the hatch is still raised then quickly drop back and grab the edge of the hatch and do a safety drop to ground.

Now to make your way up to the west wall crawl space! Go back through the north passage, and make your way back up through the hole in the ceiling. Go back through the first black grated tunnel, and at the end, go through the crawl space before the lever. Drop down and make your way through the second black grated tunnel, and at the end, reach the flooded chamber room. Jump right as before, then use the rope to get to the door above the crawl space. Enter the third black grated tunnel and go ahead to the open gate to the left. Jump to the rope again, and swing to the top of the black grated tunnels. Now simply make your way up to the crawl space in the west wall.

Grab the crawl space, and go through until you are standing at the top of a slope. Light a flare and slide down the slope. About half way down you might see a sneaky ladder leading up to an area above the slope. That’s for later, so ignore it for now and slide to the bottom of the slope.

Two wall torches will light when Lara arrives at the bottom of the slope, and there is a rather nice Cheetah face picture on the wall ahead. Turn from the Cheetah head wall and face east. Look up to see a ladder, then jump up and grab it. Climb the ladder nearly to the top, but leave enough ceiling space for Lara to do a back flip with a turn, and grab the top of the Cheetah wall. Pull up, and climb down on the other side of the Cheetah wall, and arrive in a new room.

The Walled Lever Room

There are four walled areas in the new room, one in each corner. First check out the right side north wall area and see there is a closed floor hatch. Also notice on the walls of this area, there are two cat tiles with a green sparkle in the cats left eye. This is a clue for the next task.

In each of the following three walled areas, there are two levers, (six levers altogether). Only one lever in each area must be used to open the trap door in the floor. Visit each of the other three walled areas, and only use the levers that correspond with the cat tile with the green left eye sparkling. Ignore the other levers they are useless. After you have used the correct three levers, you will hear the trap door open, and you can drop down the hatch to a lower maze room.

The Maze Room

This is not really a maze room, in that you don’t have several ways to get lost. It’s a square room with a passage running all the way around it, and a few odd walls jutting out with alcoves, which gives it a maze appearance.
There are a few things to take note of in the room.
There are two sets of closed doors, one at the east side of the room, which lead back to the main pool room, and one at the west side of the room, which are the exit doors. To the left of the west doors (exit doors) is a cat tile where you will be placing a movable pillar to open the way out, and to the right of these doors there is a coloured pillar, which is a clue to a task you will be doing shortly to open those exit doors.
To the right of the east doors, (doors back to the main pool room) and a short way along, there is another cat tile in an alcove, where you will be placing the same movable pillar to open a door to the final secret.
Finally, at the north side of the room, there is a wall lever.

From where you landed when you dropped into the maze room, go west and then turn left. Look on the south wall for the wall lever, and use it to open the double east doors that lead back to the main pool room. As soon as you use the lever, two wraiths will attack. Be quick, and run around to where you dropped into the maze room. Go south then left to exit the maze room via the newly opened east doors. With the wraiths still on your tail, run through the long coloured hallway and out into the main pool room. Drop into the pool ahead to extinguish the wraiths, and then return to the coloured hallway; but don’t go back into the maze room yet. Walk towards the maze room and look at the wall textures in the hallway. They match the coloured pillar to the right of the closed west doors! In the hallway, and to your right as you approach the maze room, the last coloured pillar is movable.

The Pillar Puzzle ~ Part 1~ Getting The Final Secret

Push the pillar forwards seven times, so that it sits inside the maze room.
Go left of the pillar and make your way around the outer walls of the room, until you arrive on the other side of the pillar.
Push the pillar forwards once.
Push the pillar west once.
Go around the outer walls of the room to the other side of the pillar, and pull the pillar back once. The cat tile alcove is now to your right.
Go around the outer walls of the room to the other side of the pillar, and push the pillar forwards once.
Push the pillar once to the east so that it sits inside the cat tile alcove.
The door to the final Secret is now open.

Going For The Final Secret And Gold Idol

Go out of the maze room and back to the main pool room. You now need to trace your steps back up to the spiked crawl space high up in the west wall above the black grated tunnels. You’ve been there a few times so you should be able to find your way there again.

When you arrive at the crawl space, head on through and save your game at the top of the slope; in case you over shoot the central ladder. Light a flare so that you can see when the ladder is ahead, and then slide down the slope and wait until you see that ladder leading up above the slope. Jump to the ladder to catch it, and then climb up to the top. Pull up and see ahead the newly opened door and go through. Go left inside the door and collect your final rewards; the 6th Secret ~ LMP ~ 2 x Uzi Ammo and the final 3rd Gold Stitch Idol.
You can now drop back down the ladder and return to the bottom of the slope.

Use the upper wall ladder to the east again to back flip to the top of the Cheetah wall, and then drop back into the walled lever room. Drop back down the floor hatch and arrive back in the maze room.

The Pillar Puzzle ~ Part 2 ~ The Final Moments

Make your way south, and go past the open double doors to your left. Go on to the next passage and look left for the movable coloured pillar. You now need to move it to the cat tile on the left of the west closed doors.

Pull the pillar back once.
Pull the pillar southwards once.
Go around the room to other side of pillar and push the pillar southwards once.
Go back around the room, to the open east double doors, and pull the pillar back once.
Pull the pillar southwards 3 times, and then go around the room to the other side of the pillar.
Push the pillar forwards once.
Push the pillar twice to the west.
Go back around the room to the other side of the pillar and save your game!
Pull the pillar back once and three angry wraiths will attack. Quickly make your way around the outer walls of the maze room, and leave via the east doors to get back to the main pool room. Jump into the pool to extinguish the wraiths, and then return to the maze room.
Go left, and make your way around the room until you come to the pillar sitting in the passage ahead.
Pull the pillar back twice, and then go around the room to the other side of the pillar.
Push the pillar once. Then turn and whip out your guns as two leopards attack.
Go around the room again, and find the pillar in the passage near to the west closed doors.
Pull the pillar back three times, and then push it towards the closed doors.
Push the pillar onto the cat tile to the left of the closed doors and the exit doors will open. Enter the exit doors, and slide down the slope ahead to end Lara’s adventure.
