An Adventure in The
Night

STORY:
According to some sources, Lord Singler, a descendent of the Templars, is in
his fortress, guarding a Gold Key forged by his ancestors. According to some
legends, by melting this key one can learn the formula of transforming metal
into gold. In the city there is a group of mercenaries (SAS) performing
experiments and they want the key at any cost. They have already stolen one key
to enter into the fortress, but the second key is in the possession of the
Damned, a group of fanatics, whose kingdom is in the subway tunnels. Lord
Singler, a great friend of Lara, calls her to ask for her help in finding the
Gold Key before either of the two groups can obtain both keys to enter the
fortress. Lara is once again on her way to recover the Gold Key among numerous
traps and enemies.
WALKTHROUGH:
The Sewers
This adventure starts in the sewers.
Kill the rats, advance and at the end take
the right opening (don't worry about the left door, it's the exit at the very
end); pull the switch to open the trapdoor and climb outside; the trapdoor
closes behind you. Kill two dogs and go
east.
The Subway Entrance
After the flyby continue left and go
straight ahead to the subway, down and right. In this room there are four
cabins with switches; climb one of them and observe the roofs of the cabins:
one of them has a different orientated texture, this is the switch which you don't
have to pull; descend and pull the other three switches and the door in the NW
corner opens. Kill the damned man, pick up the medipack, shoot the power box in the south wall
and pull the switch, you get a camera shot of an opening access at the bottom
of the subway stairs.
First Secret
Go out of this room and go to the
passage at the SE. Stop at the top of the mechanical stairs. Use your binocs to
find an opening in the dark, high and to the left. Climb the central part of
the stairs and do a running jump to grab the climbable wall under the opening,
enter and get SECRET #1: medipack and revolver ammo. Safety drop to the
floor, go down the stairs and enter the left access.
First Yellow Valve
Walk a bit S and look up and right
to find a crawlspace. Climb and run off the ledge to fall at the bottom of the
ladder (if you go to the edge, turn around and jump backwards you'll not lose
any health). Make your way to jump over the breakable tiles to get the other
side and get the revolver. Climb into a
small room to pick up revolver ammo, the
laser sight and the first yellow valve; go down to the narrow
corridor again. Use the revolver+sight to shoot the power boxes in the left
wall, two ropes appear. Use the ropes to get the other side. Climb the ladder
and do a backflip with twist to grab the edge of the crawlspace and go out (the
small ladder at your back isn't climbable so you'll have to grab the edge of
the crawlspace; if you have problems try to jump and grab the ladder, then
climb four steps and do the backflip).
First Blue Valve
Enter the subway station, go left
and open the nearby door. In the SE corner of this room there's a moveable
block, push it two times and enter into a small room where you can pick up revolver ammo. Pull the block aside to discover a
trapdoor and a switch. Pulling the switch you fall in an apparently empty room
with four lamps. Climb the SW ledge and take the first
blue valve from inside the lamp. Go back to the subway station.
Second Blue Valve
Go left (east) and from the platform
jump to the top of the wagon. Crawl through its left side till you find an
opening in the ceiling. Enter this new room and look to the floor tiles: some
of them are oriented in a east-west direction and majority are oriented in a
north-south direction. Jump over the tiles oriented in the east-west direction
and finaly the door opens; pick up the second blue
valve and go back the way you came to the subway station.
Second Yellow Valve
Now we are going to the other
platform (south). Open the most right door, shoot the boxes at the NW corner to
get the second yellow valve. In the
center room there is nothing, and in the left room you can pick up a small medipack shooting the boxes. Make your way
back to the room with the four cabins with four switches, and enter again
through the NW door. Pull again the same switch into the broken power box at
the south wall and you get a camera shot of another opening access at the
bottom of the subway stairs (right side).
The Damned Key
Go there and enter the right access
now. Go east and open the door, kill two damned
dudes and insert the four valves to stop the underwater fans. Dive
into the water and pick up the Damned Key
near the north fan. Make your way to go back to the surface out of the subway
near the fortress.
The Way to the Second Key
Once out and in front of the
fortress, face east and go ahead to the next challenge. In the next structure
there is an SAS you can't kill, 'cause
he's protected by a fence high up, so move quickly. Run across the right side
and climb up over the rubbish collector, from here jump and grab the north
ledge and quickly run and with a left curve jump to land/grab the central
structure. The middle steel column is climbable so face the east face, jump,
grab and climb while another SAS shoots
at you (use medipacks as well). When you are up, shimmy around the corner to
land on a safe ledge, from here you can shoot this second SAS. Once he's dead grab the zipline and push the
button to open the door.
The Pools Room
Go down the stairs and enter a room
with two electrified pools. Go to the NE dark corner of this room, jump and
enter a crawlspace. Continue through the passage and arrive at another room
with dry pools in a second floor. Take notice of the elevated tiles in the dry
pools (two in the left pool and two in the right pool) and notice the marked
tiles at the bottom of the dry pools (another two in the left pool and another
two in the right pool); don't worry if the tiles are marked with black or
yellow textures, the only important things are the four elevated tiles and the
four marked floor tiles. Draw a picture of the empty pools with the tiles for
later.
The Second Secret
At the SW corner of this second high
room there is a high crawlspace in the dark. Jump, grab and enter to get SECRET #2: revolver
ammo and a small medipack. Go
out and go back to the low floor with the the water pools through the NE
passage.
Getting the Key
Once down in the room with the
electrified pools, stand first on the two correct elevated ledges in the left
pool and on the two correct elevated ledges in the right pool (don't worry if
in the pools are more elevated ledges, you only have to stand on the ledges
that correspond with the ones you saw marked in the higher floor). The right
door in the south wall opens (kill two SAS on
your way). Enter the right door and notice the red and green lights in the
walls. You must walk only over the tiles with green lights at their side to
open the far south door (don't worry if you step over the very bottom floor
tiles, but never over the elevated tiles near the red lights). Once into the
small room pull the floor lever to stop the fan in the adjacent room. Once you
go out, the pools are not electrified, and you can walk safely over the water
in both pools, so walk over the other four (lower) tiles marked in the high dry
pools (two in each pool) to open the left door at the south wall. Enter the
door and go north to pick up the SAS Key.
Turn around and go to an opened door south. Save your game here.
The Escape
This is a very tricky timed run. You
have to go down the stairs running and turning first right and then left and
continue running for your life before the SAS
gets over the safe tile at the end of the corridor. This is a very difficult
timed run, where you have to press the sprint key down the stairs all the time
and depressed a bit while turning the corners; at the end before you get to the
safe place, you must take a critical running jump over three or four tiles
before to avoid the fires. It's very difficult, but not impossible. If you get
there successfully, you'll have to kill the two SAS
(the button at the bottom of the stairs is not for you), open the exit door and
enter into the room with the fans. Go east and pull the wall switch to stop the
nearby big fan. Go through it and kill the two SAS
in this room. Go through the open NE door and kill two more SAS if you didn't kill them before, and go outside
near the fortress.
The Fortress
Go straight ahead and left (west) to
use your keys to open the fortress door. Enter and the door closes behind you.
In front of you are eight lamps with switches under them. One of the lamps is
blue. Begin by pulling the switch under the blue lamp; this switch lights
another lamp, go to this second lighted lamp and pull the switch under it; this
switch lights another lamp, so go to pull the switches you are lighting in
order and when you pull the fifth switch, the door at the far west wall opens.
Go there and pull the floor switch to open a trapdoor somewhere...
The Golden Key
Go back east and at the end of the
lamps go left and turn west into another passage. Walk a little to find the
opened trapdoor into one of the right alcoves. Go in and after the flyby enter
the electrified room. Look into the mirror to the right to know that the yellow
tiles under the lamps are safe. Jump on these tiles to finally get over one of
the columns near the stairs. Approach the yellow lamp and get the Golden Key which is over it, the nearby door
opens. Go through the door, watch the flyby and go down the stairs to finish
the level.
