This level would crash if you reloaded after Lara died. The game always had to
be restarted before you could reload a save game. This got to be very annoying
very quickly. The author has modified Lara's swimming as per Tomb Raider Legend.
Basically the swimming varies between being hard to control and being
impossible to control. [End Note]
Level 1:
Temples
You start on a safe island surrounded by a deadly
floor. Pick up flares from the floor and Uzi ammo from the pedestal. Go south and see a
medipack on the deadly floor. Jump onto that safe tile for secret #1 and a small
medipack. Jump back to the island. Look north at the ceiling and see the
locations of safe tiles on the deadly floor. Stand jump over the safe tiles and
onto the bump at the east wall. Stand on the bump and pull up through the east
wall for secret #2. Light a flare and go
forward to use a floor lever. Follow the tunnel around and pick up the shotgun on the pedestal. Return and drop back down
onto the bump. Run and jump over the north ledge. Slide down a slope and pick
up a large medipack. You may have to crouch to
pick it up. Run to the west side for red shotgun
shells. Return to the center and jump over the spikes.
Shoot four blue ninjas
and pick up Uzi ammo from one dead body. Crawl
onto the blocks and pick up the two Eye Pieces.
Lara can roll forward from crawl spaces. Make the Eye of Horus and use it to
open the circular door. Enter and sprint across the black tiles to avoid three
rolling spike balls. Dive into the water and pick up flares
at the bottom. Swim up and then swim east through a crawl space. Swim down,
under the wall, up, over the wall, down, under the wall and continue until you
find a tunnel in the lower south-east corner. Follow the tunnel to a long north
section. Swim up a vertical shaft near the middle. Pull up into a dark room.
Pick up Uzi ammo and use the floor lever. You
get a flyby through the rest of the underwater tunnel. I guess that a gate
opened somewhere in the tunnel.
Swim down back to the tunnel and swim north. Follow
the tunnel and swim into an alcove for Uzi ammo.
Swim to the end and swim up a vertical shaft. Pull up into a tall colorful room
and shoot five scorpions. Go north and run up
the steps at the end. Climb up to the wall and run and jump over the deadly
floor to the north ledge. Go west and step on the tile with the revolver. Hop
back to ledge and wait while a spike ball falls onto the tile and rolls off
into the pit. Now pick up the revolver in
safety. Go to the east end and pick up revolver ammo.
No spike ball this time. Jump back to the south ledge and go south to the black
door. You have the crowbar in the start inventory. Use the crowbar to open the
black door. Enter the room and use the floor lever. Exit the room and go south
to the open gate in the upper south-west corner.
Drop into the tunnel and go forward a little. Turn
around and pull back up to the entrance block as a spike balls rolls down the
ramp towards you. Jump over the spike ball and run up the ramp. When you see a
picture tile, step on that tile, turn around, and run back to the entrance
block again. A second spike ball will follow you down the ramp. When it stops,
jump over the spike ball and go up the ramp again. At the top, climb three
blocks to the west and see a sloped tile. Stop and wait while a spike ball
falls onto that tile and rolls off. Continue to the top of the blocks. You face
a deep pit to the north. Stand jump using SHIFT so that Lara does a swan dive
off the ledge into the water below. This way Lara clears the deadly floor below
to land in the water but does not move forward in the water to drift over the
deadly black floor files.
I found it easier to paddle on the surface and only
dive into the water to pick up an item. Follow the safe tiles and pick up red shotgun shells, grenade super ammo, grenade normal ammo,
Uzi ammo, and revolver ammo. Swim into
the underwater tunnel in the north-west corner. Swim up the ramp and pull up
into a large outdoor area. You get a short flyby showing you an item on a
pedestal. The screen always kept shaking which was annoying. Shoot the
north-east corner vase for a small medipack.
Shoot the north-west corner vase for flares. Go
to the south-east corner and use the crowbar to open the black door. Turn
around and shoot three scorpions. Use the floor
lever and then go to the central structure in the room. Jump over the deadly
floor onto a safe area. Pick up the grenade gun
and grenade normal ammo from the pedestal. Turn
around and destroy four mummies. Go to the
south-west corner and pull up onto the column. Run up the steps to the open
door.
You face a lava room with many columns. You can
also see spike balls above the columns. Slide down and jump to the first
column. Jump again to the west and grab the edge of the slope. Shimmy to the
left side of the slope. Pull up, slide down and jump to the next column. On
landing, immediately side jump to the left and fall onto another column at the
wall for secret #3. You may need full health
to do this. A spike ball lands on the last column and rolls down into the lava.
Pick up red shotgun shells, revolver ammo, and
a large medipack. Jump north to the column and
climb the ladder to the top. Stand jump north to the next slope. Jump to the
next slope and slide off the end to grab the flat column to the east. Pull up
and do three side jumps to the left as spike balls land on the columns. On the
fourth column, run and jump to grab the column to the east. Pull up and shoot a
blue ninja shooting at you from the south-east.
Run and jump east to the next column. Run and jump
south and go past the ammo on the block. Wait until two spike balls drop. Pick
up the Uzi ammo and jump the columns to the
north. Go north and start to go up the ramp. Turn around and jump back south to
the last column where you got the ammo. A spike ball falls and rolls down the
ramp and onto the middle column. When it drops into the lava, go up the ramp
and into the crawl space. Light a flare and follow the crawl space to the east.
Save the game before you climb the ladder. Climb
the ladder and start to slide down a slope. You have to jump over six lava pits
as you slide down slopes between them. It helps to grab the top of a slope if
you can, because you save the game while pulling up onto the slope. However, do
not grab the last slope because pulling up there causes you to fall into the
lava pit. When the walls change to a green color, slide and jump up to grab the
ceiling. Monkey swing south to a wall. Release and grab the wall and climb
down. Release and continue sliding. Jump over a pit and the wall color changes
to purple. Save while sliding. At the end, jump forward to grab a black ledge
and pull up. Climb a very long ladder. At the top, shimmy to the right into a
very dark tunnel.
Run down the tunnel and emerge into a bright room
with eight statues. Go forward and look to the sides of the floor to find Uzi ammo, GE Minigun ammo, and grenade super ammo. Pull up to the south slope and
jump over three lava pits. Drop into a fourth safe pit for flares, small medipack, and large
medipack. Pull up onto the last ledge and slide down into a large desert
area. Shoot five blue ninjas. Go to the
north-west corner and use the floor lever. Notice a closed gate in that area.
Go to the south-west corner and enter the open gate. Shoot three scorpions and use the three floor levers. Go
back to the north-west corner and enter the three open gates to find the
motorcycle.
Drive south and stop near a large column. Climb
into the middle section and pull up to the top. Pick up Uzi ammo and GE Minigun ammo. I
could not pick up the shotgun ammo. Look to the distant south-east corner and
see an item on top of the hill. You can see a ramp in the south-east leading up
to the top of that slope. Get down and get onto the motorcycle. Go to that ramp
and drive up. Carefully get around the hole near the top and get off the
motorcycle. Pick up the Eye Piece and drive the
motorcycle down the ramp to the west.
Drive west and park beside a tall spire. Climb the
blocks and get to the top of the spire. Pick up flares
and a small medipack. From there you can see a
building to the west and gates in the east wall of the south area. Climb down
from the spire to the ground. Go south to the east wall and use the crowbar to
open the black door. Step inside the alcove and exit again. Look up to the high
south direction and see an open gate. Go to the south-west corner. Get into the
alcove and pull up onto the west block. Turn to the east and jump and climb the
columns to the east. Enter the open gate and pick up the Eye Piece. Slide down the north slope to the ground.
Drive over to the building in the west and get off
the motorcycle. Hop over the blocks in front of the circular door. Three spike
balls drop behind you. Stand on the blocks before the door and look in a
general south-east direction. You should see something black in the sand near a
still moving spike ball. Go there and get secret #4
as you pick up grenade super ammo. Return to
the circular door. Make the Eye of Horus and use it to open the circular door.
You face a maze. Go right and left into the first
tunnel. Follow the tunnel to the dark end and pick up the Hand of Orion from the floor. Return to the entrance
doorway. Go right to the end and turn to the left. Look up to the upper south
wall and see a jump switch that you cannot reach yet. Return to the entrance
doorway. Go left and right into the first tunnel. Go to the end and go right
and left into the next tunnel. Go west to a T-junction. Go left and then right
and find an opening in the right wall. Enter and follow the tunnel to a closed
gate and a ladder opposite the gate. Climb up to the top of the walls and the
light is much better.
In the north-west corner is a receptacle. First go
to the north-east corner and pull down that jump switch. You get a crazy flyby
back to the closed gate in the desert. Go south and exit back into the desert.
Go south-east to the open gate in the east wall. Enter the alcove to get secret #5 and pick up three
GE Minigun ammo and two large medipacks.
Return back to the building entrance. Follow the tunnels again to get back to
the closed gate and ladder.
Climb the ladder to the top. Jump over the ledges
and go onto the last south ledge. Then go east and look down to your left side.
Where the ledges seem lighter, look down and see an item. Safety drop there and
pick up red shotgun shells. Turn around and
destroy a mummy. Follow the tunnel to the west
wall. Turn right and then right and left to follow the tunnel back to the
ladder.
Climb the ladder to the top. Go east and jump to
the next ledge. Look down to the right and see an item on the floor. Safety drop and pick up Uzi ammo. Destroy a mummy
and go east to a T-junction. Go right, right, left, right, and right again to
follow the tunnel back to the ladder.
Climb the ladder to the top. Go north to the
receptacle. Follow the ledge east and safety drop off the end. Pick up a large medipack and destroy two
mummies. Go west and follow the tunnel back to the ladder.
Climb the ladder to the top. Go north to the
receptacle. Go east again and jump over the gap. Look down to the east and see
an item. Safety drop to the floor and go there to pick up the Hand of Sirius. Go west and turn to the left. Go
forward and take the first right to a T-junction. Go left to the end, right,
and right again to follow the tunnel back to the ladder.
Climb the ladder to the top. Go north to the
receptacle. Place the Hand of Orion in the receptacle. Turn around and jump the ledges to the open
cage at the south wall. Place the Hand of Sirius in the receptacle. Return to
the ladder at the west wall. Climb down and enter the open gate. Enter the open
gate and go forward. The wide closed gate opens as you approach. Continue
forward and turn around to shoot five blue ninjas.
Go west to the end of the dark tunnel. Turn to the south. Back flip to the east
and jump forward to grab an upper slope. Pull up, back flip, and jump forward
to land in an upper tunnel.
Run south down the slope and up the next slope. A
spike ball rolls behind you and will follow you up part of the slope. Run down
the next slope and hop up into an upper tunnel at the end to avoid a second
spike ball. Go east and destroy a mummy.
Continue east to the end of the tunnel and turn to the north. Go north and
destroy a mummy. At the end, turn to the west.
Go west and run to the end. Turn to the south and run down a slope, as a spike
ball rolls after you. Then run up a slope and jump over a hole, as a spike ball
falls into the hole. At the end, turn to the east. Stay near the south wall and
sprint to the east. You stop in a corner near a crawl space as a spike ball
falls behind you. Go through the crawl space and stand up at the top of a steep
slope.
Slide down the slope and run east. Destroy a mummy and pull up into a tunnel at the end. Sprint
through the north tunnel as spike balls fall behind you. Turn the corner and go
west. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing over the deadly floor. Turn the corner
and face the pit to the south. Climb down a ladder, run south and destroy a mummy, and climb another ladder to climb up into the
corner. Slide down an east slope and
sprint up the next slope as a spike ball falls behind you. Go north to a crawl
space. Turn around and shoot three scorpions
before they trap you. Follow the crawl space to the north and then west to
another corner. Face south and run down the slope and up the other side.
Follow the tunnel to destroy a mummy. At the end, shoot two
scorpions and see a deep hole. Safety drop into the hole and land in
water. You drift to the west but it is safe. Again the black tiles are deadly.
Swim back to the east a little and pick up a small
medipack and surface for air. All you can do is follow the safe path on
the floor. You will need many medipacks to make the swim, as you run out of air.
At the end, swim up a vertical shaft and pull up into a desert area. Shoot two blue ninjas who are waiting for you beside the
motorcycle. Get on the motorcycle and drive north. Drive up the hill to the
statue. Get off and pick up two Uzi's from the
pedestal.
Drive down the hill and continue south up another
hill at the south side. Jump over a pit and stop and get off the motorcycle. Go
to the north-west corner and climb down a ladder onto a lower ledge in the pit.
Light a flare and turn to the south. Climb down the blocks to the bottom of the
pit. Run to the far south end corner of the pit. Pick up the GE Minigun for secret #6.
Return north to climb the blocks and the wall to get back to the motorcycle.
Drive to the south-east corner and drive up the
east slope. Turn to the north and try not to hit the wall, as it decreases your
speed. Drive up the hill and jump over a deep pit. Carefully follow the narrow
path and go through a gap in the walls. Drive down a slope and see a wide path.
Stop the motorcycle at the botton of the slope and get off. Climb down the
ladder on the west side of the wall at the bottom of the slope. Then climb down
a ladder in a nearby hole. Drop onto the top of a high column. Jump up to grab
the ceiling. Monkey swing the winding path to drop onto a column. Pick up Cartouche Piece 1. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing
to the second column for Cartouche Piece 2. Slide down
backwards on the slope next to the second column. Go to the south-west corner
and the receptacle. Make the Ba Cartouche and place it in the receptacle to
open the large doors.
Enter the doors and turn around to
destroy five mummies. You get secret #7 and pick up red shotgun shells,
grenade normal ammo, revolver ammo, large medipack, and two Uzi ammo. Now run to the columns in the north-east corner. Climb the
blocks to get to the top. Grab the ladder and climb up through the hole. Climb
the long ladder to get back to the motorcycle. Drive north and then east to follow
the path to a large desert area. Go east until a wall stops you. Climb the wall
and drop on the other side. Run east to the jeep and the level changes.
Level 2:
Temples
You start beside a jeep and you are standing in
front of a steep slope. Look down a see a sloped column. This is the first
sloped column. Go north to the far wall and pick up red
shotgun shells. Return back to the jeep and the first sloped column. Go
south to the third slope column. Face west and back flip to land on that sloped
column. Slide down backwards and grab the edge. Safety drop into the hole. You
get secret #8 and a small
medipack. Climb the east ledge, slide down, and jump forward to grab the
east ledge. Pull up and go south to pick up GE Minigun
ammo. Go north and press a big button on the wall. Return south and
enter the open doors.
Light a flare ands see that some floor tiles are
safe and some floor tiles are deadly. Step on the first safe tile and stand
jump south to another safe tile. Press the big button and a gate opens at the
far south wall. Stand jump the safe tiles to that corner. Press the big button
on the south wall. Turn around and use binoculars to see a raised gate in the
north-east corner. Stand jump onto the safe tiles again and go to that corner.
Press the big button on the wall. A gate rises next to the entrance door. Stand
jump to the entrance door and push the big button to the north of the door.
Stand jump the safe tiles again to the jump switch to the right of the closed
east doors. Pull down the jump switch and the two doors open.
Enter the area through the north door, farthest
from the jump switch. Go east and shoot a scorpion.
Enter a south alcove for grenade normal ammo.
Continue east and enter an area with a platform and a pedestal. Get onto the
platform and pick up the Guardian Key from the
pedestal. Four fires start in the bowls at the platform corners. Go to the
south-east corner and exit into the south tunnel. Follow the tunnel to a black
door. Use the crowbar to open the door and pick up grenade
super ammo and two Uzi ammo. Go east and
go through a crawl space. Use the crowbar to open another black door. Pick up revolver ammo and two GE
Minigun ammo. Exit and follow the tunnel back to the room with the
platform and pedestal.
Go to the south-west corner and follow the west
tunnel. Ignore the crawl space that leads back to the entrance room doors.
Follow the tunnel to a black door. Open the door with the crowbar and enter the
alcove. Back into a crawl space and quickly crawl forward again and stand up to
shoot a scorpion. Get back into the crawl space for
grenade normal ammo. Exit and go east to shoot
a scorpion and pick up red
shotgun shells. Exit and follow the tunnel back to the room with the
platform and pedestal.
Go to the north-west corner and enter the north
tunnel. Go north to a T-junction. Go west and go through a crawl space. Stand
up and use the floor lever. Wait to shoot a scorpion
before going back through the crawl space. Crawl east to see another crawl
space. Turn to the right and pick up GE Minigun ammo.
Return to the earlier crawl space and go east to stand up. Continue east to use
the crowbar to open a black door. Shoot two scorpions,
one of which sneaks up behind you. Go east and follow the tunnel to a crawl
space. Go through and follow the tunnel to an open door. Shoot a scorpion and pull down the wall switch on the north
wall. You hear a gate open somewhere.
Return back to the black door. Go west and enter
the first tunnel to the left to pick up a small
medipack. Go straight to the end and turn to the left. Follow the
tunnels to reach two black doors. Use the crowbar to open both of them. The
west tunnel is blocked by a closed gate. Enter the south tunnel and go through
a crawl space. Go generally south-east and stand up when you can. Pull down a
jump switch on the north wall. You hear a gate open. Crawl to the north-east
corner for a large medipack and GE Minigun ammo. Crawl west to return to the black
door. Get into the tunnel and the west gate is open. Go through the gate and
the open door into an alcove. Press the big button on the north wall.
Exit back through the south tunnel and into the
crawl space again. Go to the south-east corner and follow the tunnel in the
south wall. Use the crowbar to open a black door. Shoot a scorpion and press
the big button to open the gate. Pick up a small
medipack, revolver ammo, and two GE Minigun
ammo. Exit back to the crawl space.
Go to the south-west corner and enter the west
tunnel. Follow the tunnel and shoot two scorpions.
At the end, use the Guardian Key to open the gate. Go through a crawl space to
reach an open door and a closed gate. Pull down a jump switch on the west wall
above the crawl space to open the gate.
Enter the gate and you are facing a slope.
Slide down the green tunnel and stop in a hole.
Shoot a red ninja that drops into the hole and
pick up Uzi ammo. Shoot a blue ninja higher to the east step, although he may
also drop into the hole. Pull up on the north side, as the east side is deadly.
Go south-east to the body of the blue ninja and pick up Uzi ammo. Pull up onto the east step and pull up again to the next
east step. You can now see the pattern of safe tiles and deadly files that
require you to cross all the steps to get to the top. Shoot a red ninja before he pushes you onto a deadly tile.
Follow the steps to the next corner and pull up twice for the next safe ledge.
Continue this until you reach the top. During the trip, you also shoot three red ninjas and two blue
ninjas. None of them seem to leave anything.
At the end, climb a ladder and climb a series of
blocks to the east. At the top floor, go east and then south to the corner. Now
do a series of stand jumps and running jumps onto safe tiles to reach the
north-east corner. Pull up onto a block and pick up a large
medipack and a small medipack. Grab the
ceiling and monkey swing west over the deadly floor. Drop onto a safe block and
enter the next room.
Wait inside the entrance and shoot three red ninjas running down the steps towards you.
Pick up three Uzi ammo from the bodies. Run
west to the end and pick up two GE Minigun ammo.
Return west and run up the steps. Follow the steps and pick up grenade normal ammo. Continue around the next corner
and shoot three blue ninjas. Continue up the
steps around two more corners and you see that you are on the edge of a tower
with the steps winding up on the outside. Go west and turn around to shoot three red ninjas. Continue west to the next corner.
Shoot a blue ninja to the south and then turn
around and shoot a red ninja. Pick up grenade normal ammo and a large
medipack. Continue up the steps and reach a flat ledge.
Go east to the end corner and shoot a red ninja to the north and then turn around and shoot
a blue ninja behind you. Just follow the ledges
to shoot a red ninja and climb a block onto a
higher ledge. Continue south on this ledge and run up more steps. Turn the
corner to shoot a blue ninja. Notice now that
there is pit in the middle. Follow the narrow ledge around to the end and pick
up a GE Minigun. An invisible east wall seems
to stop you from falling into the pit. Safety drop off the south side to the
ledge below you. From there drop into the pit and land in water. Swim near the
statue at the east wall and get Uzi ammo. Then
swim north into the underwater tunnel. Pull up onto a block into a room. You
have to crawl backwards into the north tunnel to continue swimming. Swim north
to a T-junction and into the left room for flares
and a small medipack at the back wall. Swim
back for air. Swim north to a T-junction and into the right room for red shotgun shells and GE
Minigun ammo at the back wall. Swim back for air and pull up into the
room.
There is a closed gate at the south wall. Pull up
over the north wall and slide down. Go into the dark north corridor and see a
crawl space in the lower west wall.
Crawl to the end and stand up. Pull down the jump switch on the west
wall and hear a gate open. Crawl back to the dark corridor. Go north and west
to find the open gate. Enter the alcove and press the big button on the wall.
You hear doors opening. Exit and go west to the open doors. Use the floor lever
and you hear a door open. Return east and south and stand jump over the slope
to return to the entrance hole.
Pull up over the west wall and slide down. Go north
and use the crowbar to open the black door. Enter the next open door and pull
down the jump switch on the east wall. You hear a gate open. Return and stand
jump over the wall to return to the entrance hole. The gate in the south wall
is open. Slide down into the next area. Shoot two red
ninjas, two blue ninjas, and four crocodiles.
Go to the north-east corridor and pick up Cartouche
Piece 1 (call Load). Go to the north-west corridor and pick up Cartouche Piece 2 (call Load). Go to the west wall
receptacle. Make the Ba Cartouche (called Canopic Jar 2) and place it in the
receptacle. The doors beside it to open.
Run out the doors and go left to find the
motorcycle hidden by the open door. Drive west across the desert and drive up
the hill and onto the plateau. Drive west until you cannot drive any more
because of an invisible wall at the top of the slope. Just exit the game, as
there seems to be no end trigger anywhere on the plateau.
