The level begins in a cave with Lara facing a closed door. Walk forward
and the door will open. If you're playing this level as a continuation of
Within the Sanctuary, you should have all your accumulated health kits,
weaponry and ammo, so draw the weapon of your choice as you pass through the
doorway into another cave and shoot the bats that attack. Go get the shotgun
ammo to your left, and as you continue to move forward through the cave
you'll need to draw those weapons again to put the quietus on a quartet of wild
dogs.
Locate a block against the north wall, climb up and throw the wall switch to
open a couple of doors behind you. By this time you can hear the footsteps of
some patrolling soldier. Go inside the new doorway, whereupon an earthquake
erupts in violent fury, and a number of boulders come
tumbling down to erase the smooth landscape you saw as you first entered. What's
left, as the ground continues to shake, is a series of pillars you need to
negotiate in order to get over to the face door you can see in the NE corner.
Before making this journey, however, back out into the cave and get some
relief from the earthquake. Turn around and run straight across to the south
wall and enter the opening right behind the pyramidal rock. Go inside and pick up
the crowbar, take an aspirin and return to the earthquake area. Take a
series of running jumps (except for one standing jump at the obvious place) and
reach the ledge in front of the face door, bringing a welcome end to the
earthquake. Use the crowbar to open the door, and go on inside.
Ugh, spikes. Actually, it's not that bad, as you can time a normal run
past the separate spike traps and not lose any health. The problem is at the
end, where a trap door opens upon your approach and you're likely to overshoot
the small pool below and die a crunchy death. One way to do it is to run down
the left side, stop for an instant at the end, turn right and take an angled
jump into the wall, dropping Lara right down into the water.
Pull out of the pool and pick up the small medi-pack
in the NE corner of the dark room. Then locate the opening high up in the west
wall, jump up to grab the edge and pull up. Open the face door with your
crowbar and enjoy the wild ride down the slopes to the water below, accompanied
by a couple of boulders. Don't stray when you pull out of the water, as there
are spike traps all around you. Look up at the ceiling for the location of the
"safe" squares, and carefully take a series of standing jumps until
you reach the opening on the other side. (You knew there wasn't a safety marker
over the square with the grenade gun, so why did you try to pick it up?)
Step forward and open the face door with your crowbar. Shoot the pair of
ninjas that come out from behind some boxes ahead. Take their uzi ammo, then climb
up onto the box to the right of the doorway for some shotgun ammo. Make
a hairpin turn to the left past the point where the ninjas appeared, and pull
out the moveable block. (You don't even need to loght
a flare to see it.) Then go to the left side and pull it once away from the
wall to reveal an alcove. Go inside the alcove and throw the wall switch to
open a door within earshot. However, the face door behind you doesn't respond
to the crowbar, so go over to the SW corner where you just opened the door. Shoot
out the "no entry" barricade and go inside.
A ninja crawls up over some crates to your left, so go ahead and
take him out before he can draw and take aim at you. Climb up onto the crate
formerly occupied by him and hop down into the little trench on the other side.
Go around to the right and pull out the moveable block. Climb back over the
crates and on the other side jump past the sloped pillar into the alcove and
pull the wall switch. Shoot the barricades near the Jeep and pick up the small
medi-pack and the shotgun.
Go back outside to the wall switch in the previous room, and you'll find
that the face door is now open. Step up to the threshold to trigger an
earthquake in a lava room strewn with boulders. You'll also alert a harpy,
so deal with it. Then take a running jump ahead to the little strip of rock. Angle
Lara to the right and take a jump over the lava to a similar strip of rock near
the SE corner, shutting down the earthquake as you land.
Turn to your left and notice the crack in the wall just above your head.
Jump up to grab it, then shimmy to your left around
several corners as far as you can go until you hear the chimes of a secret.
Drop down onto the ledge and pick up the revolver and two stashes of revolver
ammo. Shimmy back to your starting point and drop down.
Turn to your right, step forward and the door opens in front of you. Go
inside and deal with two crocodiles swimming around in the shallow pool
ahead. Turn to your right and locate the block in the dark NW corner. Climb up
onto it, facing the west wall, and jump up to activate the cleverly hidden jump
switch.
Turn left and run toward the open doorway. Before exiting, there's a large
medi-pack tucked away near the SE corner. Now run
up the stairs, and the door at the top will open as you approach. As you step
inside the immense room with a sea of lava far below, a brief flyby shows a
pair of attacking harpies. After dealing with them, run down the ledge
to your left and pick up the large medi-pack in
the alcove. Then run down the ledge in the other direction and throw the wall
switch in the alcove at the end, revealing a bridge leading to the suspended
island in the lava room. Run across the bridge, but watch that last step. The
bridge doesn't extend quite all the way to the island, so take a running jump
to clear the gap. Step forward and take the Amulet of Horus
from the pedestal.
Turn right and take a running jump to the ledge along the west wall. Go
inside the open doorway and step onto the ramp. A boulder comes tumbling down
toward you, but you can stay right there and watch it if you wish, as it will
fall into a hole in the ramp before reaching you. Jump over the hole and run up
the ramp. Open the face door at the top with your crowbar. The room inside is a
sparse but pretty thing with a central fountain. Go into the corridor beyond
the fountain, triggering a flyby that brings the level to an end.

Here are the other two secrets. The first is right at the start, in the SE
corner you can jump up for a crawling space, contains uzi
ammo and large medi. The second is at the end of the
big slide with boulders on both sides. At the end of the slope jump forward and
grab the ledge of the slope in front. Release ctrl for a moment, and grab the
ledge of the crawling space below. The uzi
gun is inside.
