HELL'S NIGHTMARE - RETURN TO HELL

In this level there are hundreds of pickups, so to save a lot of time I'll use the next abbreviations:

SM = small medipack

LM = large medipack

LEVEL 1 - CROFT MANOR

 

[Note] It's not necessary to explore all the mansion to jump to the next level. You can do it in few minutes if you (like me) are bored about Lara's mansion levels so I'll give two options: the fast route to finish this level quickly and the complete route, to finish the level with all pickups. Realize that if you choose the fast route, you'll miss a lot of pickups and  two guns. [End note]

 

1.- Fast Route:

 

The Race Track Key

 

Go to the main hall, left and right to the N side. Enter through the open N door and go left up the stairs to the library. Pull the small book in the N wall to extinguish the fire in the fireplace, go there and climb to the top. In the next room climb the S ledge and pull the SW switch to open the door to the basements; push the crate in S wall to enter in the attic and go down the left stairs to return to the main hall. Go down the left stairs to the bottom floor and turn 180º to go W to the gym (to your right is the door you've opened), cross the gym and go N to the pool room. In the N side, behind the diving board press the button to open a door in the basements. Go there and climb the pole, jump into the water and dive all around E, S and W to find the Race Track Key near the S wall. Return to the main hall and press the button near the E main door to go outside.

 

The Gate Key

 

Run N and use the key to open the door of the labyrinth. There's not a labyrinth this time, but a race track and a quad. Don't mount on the quad but turn right and go through the opening in W wall; advance a bit and to your right in the corner there's a niche with a fire inside; go in (the fire is harmless) and pull the switch to open a door somewhere. The tasks here are done so go out of the race track to the main courtyard, run W through the corridor in the right side of the mansion to the very end; continue all around the mansion S and E until you arrive to the place with the targets you've seen in the previous flyby. Use the switch to the right of the grated door to open it; enter and in the SE corner is the door you saw in the flyby; (better kill the two winged women before entering or they will not let you go back when you return) crawl in to the next outside area.

 

[Note] There's a serious bug here. The next tasks must be done in one shot. If you open some doors and reload a savegame before getting the key, the doors will close and you'll get stuck forever. Anyway there's something strange here 'cause when you step on a trigger tile, the triggered doors open and close continuously. Sometimes they stay closed, but if you pick up all the items inside, approach and step on the tile in front of the door, it opens. [End note]

 

Kill the winged woman and the NW door opens releasing another one. Once you've killed this second one, you can step inside the NW alcove and a second door opens, releasing a purple beast. Kill it and enter where the shotgun shells are to open the SW door; kill another beast and enter where the medipacks are to trigger the NE door. Pick up them all and go there to get the Gate Key. Pull the switch there so you don't need to go all around the house to return to the main courtyard. Go to the main outside doors and use the key to finish the level.

 

2.- Complete route.

 

Open the door left of the bed to get 2xF. Just in the opposite side press another button and go out to the balcony to pick up a SM. Go to the main hall, left and right to the N side. Enter through the open N door, shoot the baddies and pick up a SM in the NE window sill; go E up the stairs to the library. Shoot the beast and pull the small book in the N wall to extinguish the fire in the fireplace, go there and climb to the top. In the next room pick up the SM near the wooden boxes, climb the S ledge and pull the SW switch to open the door to the basements; push the crate in S wall to enter in the attic and shoot another beast. Explore the room to find 2xSM. Go down the E stairs to return to the main hall.

 

Go down the stairs to the bottom floor and shoot the baddies there; go W to the gym (to your right is the door you've opened); there's a high button in W wall but it only opens a door in the kitchen to have a shortcut to go outside and also releases two winged women. There's a SM over the ledge near the 7 number. Cross the gym and go N to the pool room. In the N side, behind the diving board press the button to open a door in the basements. Go there and climb the pole, jump into the water and dive all around E, S and W to find the Race Track Key near the S wall; also pick up a lot of stuff around (go back for air when needed): 11xSS and the shotgun itself.

 

Return to the main hall and press the button near the E main door to go outside. Shoot the baddies and go N to the small pool with the horse; run around the edge so two crocs appear and kill them; jump inside to pick up a SM and 4xCA. Use the key in the N wall to open the door of the labyrinth. There's not a labyrinth this time, but a race track and a quad. Mount the quad and follow the path to a cave; dismount and explore the area to find 2xF, 2xSS and a SM. Mount again and continue driving over the S ramp returning to the starting point. Dismount, turn around and go through the opening in W wall; advance a bit and to your right in the corner there's a niche with a fire inside; go in (the fire is harmless) and pull the switch to open a door somewhere.

 

The tasks here are done so go out of the race track to the main courtyard, run W through the corridor in the right side of the mansion to the very end; continue all around the mansion S and explore the training area to find F, the lasersight, the crossbow and 3xCA, shooting the enemies on your way until you arrive to the place with the targets you've seen in the previous flyby. Use the switch to the right of the grated door to open it; enter, shoot the winged women and in the SE corner is the door you saw in the flyby;  crawl in to the next outside area and pick up 7xSS. Climb to the E grassy area.

Kill it and pick up the SS it drops; enter where it was to pick up more SS and the SW door opens; kill another beast and enter where it was to pick up 2xSM and a LM, triggering this way the NE door. Go there to get the Gate Key. Pull the switch there so you don't need to go all around the house to return to the main courtyard. Go to the main outside doors killing all the enemies on your way and use the key to finish the level.

 

 

LEVEL 2 - CEMETERY

 

Pick up the Lara's Car Keys in front of you and mount the car. Drive along the street killing all kind of enemies on your way. When you are driving in a E-W direction, stop and dismount to pick up a SM over the green mounds to your right. Continue to the parking and park the car there. In the NW corner of this big outside courtyard there is a crawlspace. Go in and in the other side go into the crawlspace in W wall. Near the door there is another crawlspace. Continue crawling, pick up a SM to your left and pull the switch at the end of the path to open the door.

 

In this new room climb the small pillar and continue jumping from pillar to pillar, time the fire emitter, grab the crack in E wall and shimmy right to the end, jump to the next pillar and time the fire emitter to jump to the NW opening. Time the spikes and pull the switch to open a door somewhere. Time the spikes and the fire emitter again and jump to the nearby pillar; grab the monkeyswing and swing E to the open door; drop and grab the edge of the entrance at the end of the monkeyswing.

 

In this new room time the spikes, jumping only over the white tiles, to reach the NE corner of the room. In the new room jump to the E pillar and use the rope to land on the S floating ledge. Run off this ledge S to land onto the ledge below; turn left and jump to the E opening. Time the spikes and the fire emitters and pull the switch at the end. Return to the entrance the way you came. Climb the ladder to your left and pull the switch to open another door; return to the entrance and jump to the N pillar; jump to the next W ledges and finally time the fire emitter to jump to the SW opening. Follow the corridor and in this small maze look for 2xUC, 2xCA, SS and a SM. Pull the switch to deactivate the spikes and approach to the door to open it. Pick up the Cemetery Gate Star. Now make your way to return to the room with many spikes, from here to the room with many pillars and from here to the dark room before the outside courtyard.

 

In this room go to the opening in SE corner and place the star to open a door somewhere. Go out to the courtyard and mount the car; drive E along the street running over all the enemies you find on your way and park in the next parking area. You can enter in the cemetery from a gap in the SW corner of the parking area. Once inside, pick up the Jail Key over the grate and fall to the next level.

 

 

LEVEL 3 - DEVIL'S LAIR PART 1

 

Pick up 3xSM at the end of the slide and use the crossbow + lasersight to kill the demigod from this safe position. Enter and shoot the devils there; go up the ramp and pull the jumpswitch to open the E door. In the lava room jump from slope to slope with turns in the air to reach the other side, climb the ladder, pull the lever and climb the high steps to the top. In front of you there's a closed door; remember this for later.

 

In the next room, turn left and take a running jump to the first flat ledge W, taking some damage. There's a hole next to you in the lava (NE) so jump there and climb down the ladder to the bottom. Crawl to the next room and pick up the crowbar in the SE corner; get the Golden Star in the W side of the room and return to the big lava room. Shoot the croc if you want and use the flat ledges to reach the N side of the room; climb the ladder to the high ledge, continue and enter the opening to your left to find the receptacle for the star; place it to open the door you saw in the corridor before the lava room. Make your way to go back there.

 

In this room with a huge pit, jump onto the three wooden floating ledges so the trapdoor adjacent to the central wooden pillar opens. There's another bug here: when you stand over the last wooden ledge, the trapdoor opens and closes continuously and it can happen that when jumping to the final pillar the trapdoor stays closed; I solved it saving the game over the ledge with the trigger and reloading. Climb down the ladder and jump to the low S pillar; climb down another ladder and backflip at the bottom to land on the wooden platform behind you. Don't worry about the mercenaries, they'll be your friends if you don't shoot and they will help you with the enemies who appearing until the end of the game. Run N to the end of the wooden floor and climb down a third ladder (W side) to the bottom of the pit.

 

Go around the structure in an anticlockwise direction killing all the enemies you find and the final door opens for you. Go left to pick up the first Horseman's Gem in the corner and drop into the hole in NE corner. Jump to the E pillar, drop onto the small ledge behind and from here to the floor. In the W side is the second Horseman's Gem. Now you must go to the very E side of this room killing the enemies, shoot the glass over the pedestal to get RA and a SM, climb the ladder and use the ledges in S and N sides to return to the room with the big pit you came. If the trapdoor above the ladder next to the hole is closed, go around the room to the other side and use the other ladder. Make your way to return to the place where you placed the star some time ago, shooting the enemies on your way if you want.

 

Place the gems at the end of the N and S passages to open the central door. In this room with many skeletons go through the NE opening to a new room with a spiked pit. In a pedestal in left side pick up 2xF. Approach the small ledge over the pit and kill all the enemies below from here. Drop into the pit and pull the jumpswitch in NW corner to get UC, SM and SS from the pedestal; return to the pit and climb the ladder in NE corner. In this side of the pit there's a lever in NW corner; this level is timed and opens a door in the first room with the skeletons; you can't go back here so if you lose the timed run you'll have to reload. Fortunately, all the timed runs in this game give you enough time.

 

Use the lever (unfortunately you'll kill your friends) and quickly mount the bike, drive S jumping over the pit, cross the opening to the next room and straight ahead is the open door. Continue through the corridor and jump another pit in the next room; park the bike near the stairs facing N. There's a jumpswitch at the top of the stairs and another one if you shimmy along the crack to the high SW opening. The switch in the stairs is not timed, and opens the door to return to the room with the skeletons. The switch inside the opening is timed and non-resettable, it opens a door in the N wall of the room with the skeletons. So, pull the jumpswitch at the top of the stairs first, grab the crack and shimmy right to reach the high opening in SW corner; pull the second jumpswitch and run to mount the bike; jump the lava pit, drive through the corridor in front of you and continue to the skeletons room; straight ahead is the timed door.

 

Continue to a room with another lava pit and jump it using the ramp in its left side; park the bike, climb the ladder and pull the jumpswitch inside the W opening to open the door where the globe you need is. Now jump to the opening in N wall and pull a lever to open the exit door. Return to the bike and jump the pit again. On the other side, park the bike and approach the pit from its very right side; climb down the ladder. Shoot the croc at the bottom if you want and follow the grated path to the end to get the Devil's Globe. Go back to the bike and exit through the open door in NE corner. At the end of the corridor dismount and pull a jumpswitch to open the last door and you're back in the room with the spiked pit. Drive up the ramp to jump to the other side and return to the skeletons room.

 

Place the globe and pull the moveable block to your left out and aside to reveal a new passage. Go to the end avoiding all the traps you find and setting apart another block in your way; at the very end watch out for the rolling ball and push another moveable block in the corner. There's a new room with another pit full of enemies. Cross to the other side using the ledges (wait for the spikes to pop up) and pick up the Devil's Gem on your way. In the other side go through the left opening first, time the spikes and pull a jumpswitch at the end so you can place the gem later. Now go through the other opening and pull another jumpswitch near the end to open the door behind the block. Push the block to clear the way and place the gem to open the last door in this room.

 

Slide down the ramp to a well known room; shoot all the enemies and go up the ramp to the place where the demigod was to trigger the exit door. Go down and left to the door; in my game the door opened and closed continuously. Jump over the blades and in this new room jump over the floating ledges until you can see a ladder in the ceiling; climb the ladder and pull the jumpswitch. Return to the ledges and use them to safely reach the bottom of the pit. There's a hole in the center of the floor here; climb down the ladder, go S climb the next ladder and pull the switch there. Return to the previous room and use the pillars again to climb to the S wooden ledge.

 

Continue through the open door, crawl E and follow the path avoiding all the traps you find and pushing the moveable block in your way. At the end of the corridor the door opens for you. Here we have another lava room. Jump over the pillars with the vertical flame emitters to reach the E side of the room (remember that you can stand in the corners without being caught by the flames). Now jump to the S pillar and to the S ledge next to the wall. Run to the W end and drop onto the wooden ledge below near the lava. Pick up 2xUC from the pedestals and from the wooden ledge over the lava, time the fires to jump to the next two wooden ledges. Turn right and time the fires again to jump to the wooden ledge next to the pillar; pull the jumpswitch and return to the previous wooden ledge. Continue timing the fires and jumping the wooden ledges to the N; shoot the glass over the pedestal to get UC and go E.

 

Go up the stairs and in the next lava room shoot the wild pig, jump to the central rocky ledge and climb the N ladder. Pull the lever at the top and go E through the open door. Follow the path shooting more wild pigs and at the end there's the same well known room with the demigod and the devils. As before, shoot all the enemies and go up the ramp to the place where the demigod was to trigger the exit door. Go there and slide down the ramp to finish the level.

 

 

LEVEL 4 - DEVIL'S LAIR PART 2

 

Advance and don't shoot the mercenaries, they will help you to kill the enemies. After some meters, take the first left opening (N), shoot the beast and pick up a shotgun in the niche to your right. Continue, shoot another beast and pick up 2xCA in the niche to your left. In the next room shoot the wild pigs and pick up a SM, 2xRA and the revolver itself. Continue and in the next room go to the end and pick up a SM; retrace your steps and go through the E opening; use the jumpswitch at the end of the room to open a door somewhere. Now return all the way back almost to the beginning of the level and go E; advance a bit and go right (S) only if you want to get some pickups (let your friends deal with the animals): 2xSS, the uzis, 2xUC, a LM and a SM. Return to the junction and continue E. When you hear the shout, pick up a SM and shoot the croc. Continue through the dark E passage to find the door you've opened before with the jumpswitch.

 

In this big outside area, jump from ledge to ledge to reach the bottom; shoot the big enemies there and pull the jumpswitch in W wall to open the door. Enter and pick up the flares in the niche to your right; a bit further there are two routes: left and right; take the left first and pick up 2xF; go back and continue NW. Now take the first opening to your right (W) and continue to the very end without taking detours to find a SM in a niche and the Devil's Globe. Now you can explore the rest of the areas to find more items (2xF) if you want or return directly to the outside area with the lava pit.

 

Go E and use the pillars to drop to ground floor; jump over the ledges in the lava pool to reach the E side and place the globe to open the doors. Advance shooting two crocs on your way until you find an opening to your left and a ladder in the NW corner. Go through the S opening first; pick up the SM in the niche and shoot a croc. Continue avoiding all that traps on your way and pick up the Devil's Gem at the end. Return to the ladder; climb it, shoot a croc and jump over the ledges to the open door in SW corner.

 

Shoot the croc and advance a bit; in front of you there's the receptacle for the pink gem you've got but the door is closed. Go through the right passage (N) and shoot another croc; pull the jumpswitch at the end and return to the gate; place the gem to open the door and continue to the same outside area; kill all enemies, go up the ramp and exit through the W door.

 

In the next area, use the bike to jump over the lava pit and pick up 3xGA from the pedestal; continue E avoiding all the traps and pull the jumpswitch at the end. Return to the pit and jump it with the bike; the W door is open now so enter with the bike or on foot (you'll not need the bike anymore). Turn around to shoot the devil at your back and continue until you see an opening with a purple light to your right. Go there; continue and eventually you'll arrive at a junction where another devil is and you can go W or S. Go W first to the room lighted red and purple. Shoot the wild pig, climb the ladder and shoot another two wild pigs; continue to the end and pull the jumpswitch. Return to the ladder but don't go down, jump to the high room in front of the ladder and shoot another wild boar. Explore this labyrinth of rooms to find 2xCA, 3xSM and another Devil's Gem. Return to the ladder and climb down. Run E to the end and then S; place the gem to open the door and again the same room as before, you already know what to do.

 

This part of the game is very nasty, 'cause you'll find a very huge labyrinth and all the rooms seem the same. I went all the way to the right, turning back in the dead ends, shooting all the enemies I found, and picking up a SM and 5xCA. Eventually you'll arrive to a room with some wild pigs and two jumpswitches in a corner. Pull both to open the nearby doors behind you; the doors are timed and the switches non-resettable so you must reload a savegame if you miss the timed run (very easy, of course).

 

Continue through the labyrinth (there's only one way this time) shooting more enemies until you are in a room where you can go W or E. Go W first, pick up a SM and shoot more enemies, another time through a passage with spikes, fires, teeth doors and the spiked bag; at the end pick up another Devil's Gem. Return to the junction and go E now. Shoot a winged woman and pull the jumpswitch to open the door. There's another door at the top of the ramp but I never could open it.

 

Continue shooting more enemies and you'll arrive at a room with two mercenaries where you can pick up 2xF and 3xGA. Climb the S ladder and another one in the next room; use the gem to open the door and you already know what to do in this outside area (again!).

 

In the next room mount the bike and drive taking velocity over a spiked pit, without stopping run up the ramp to jump over the lava pit and dismount there. Jump to the central stone ledge and time the fire to jump to the S opening. In the next lava room shoot the winged woman and pick up the first Horseman's Gem from the pedestal. Go through the NE opening and explore the area to find a second Horseman's Gem guarded by a winged woman. Return to the lava room and look for a high ladder in E wall; you can climb this wall. Do it and explore the area to find a third Horseman's Gem guarded by another winged woman. Return to the lava room and to the place where you parked the bike.

 

Climb down the ladder and go inside the crawlspace to get another Devil's Gem. Return up and in the E passage is the place where you can use the horseman's gems. Follow the path to the place where you can pick up a SM and use the devil's gem. Again you know what to do in this room. Continue through the caves until eventually you'll arrive at a place with several jails.

 

Use the jumpswitch in S wall to open the opposite N door. Go there, listen to the conversation between the women and use another jumpswitch in N wall to open the E jail, releasing some mercenaries. Go in and pull the jumpswitch in the SE corner. Go out and all the way S to the place where you pulled the very first jumpswitch, shoot some crocs and pull the jumpswitch in the SW corner to open the door of another jail. Shoot a winged woman and look for a trapdoor in the NW corner; open it, go down and shoot a couple of strage beasts. Pull the jumpswitch at the end of the room and return to the upper area.

 

Enter in the E jail to shoot two beasts if you want and go N to find the next open jail to your left; shoot more enemies and when you pick up the RA in the SW corner, another door opens releasing some wild boars. Go there, shoot all of them and finally use the key you picked up in the cemetery a long time ago in the keyhole in SE corner to liberate Black Angel. Go there and approach: she'll start to move and eventually she will kill all the mercenaries around her. When they are all dead, she will guide you out of the hell. Climb the ladder to your right and watch the final credits.
