THE

[Note] I
renamed The Temple.tr2 to wall.tr2 and play it using the full TR2 game. This
game is also very dark. It is best played with no other lights reflecting on
the CRT. [End note]
You start the game with the shotgun.
You start by dropping into a large pool. Ahead of you is a
closed underwater door at the bottom of the wall. Evade the fish and swim to
the left towards the left corner column. Pull down an underwater lever on the
second section from the top. Swim into the dark underwater tunnel. At the end,
turn to the left. Swim into a large pool.
Swim to the middle of the back wall and stand up on a partially
submerged platform. Pull up onto the ledge and shoot the two fish. Drop onto the platform and shoot six small spiders on the ledge. You may also have to
shoot a giant spider that appears. If not now,
you will shoot it later. It depends where you stand, as to where it is
triggered.
Swim back to the first pool and pick up two harpoons and harpoon gun
off the floor of the pool. Swim back to the second pool and pull up onto the
same ledge. Go left and you can see a key on the flat tile ledge against the
wall. Save the game before you jump there. There is a slope in that area that
gets you stuck. Run and jump to the flat tile and pick up a Gold Key (K4). Run and jump back to the ledge. Go to
the opposite side of the ledge and use the key in the key lock. You hear a trap
door drop open above you. Again save the game before you run and jump onto a
flat tile at the wall to your right. Turn to the left and stand jump to grab a
climbable wall on the column with the key lock. Climb up, shimmy to the left,
and pull up through the open trap door.
Go left and run down the tunnel. Run pass a closed gate
and another gate opens for you. Turn to the right and follow the tunnel to the
end to a hole. Jump forward and grab a ladder. Climb down and release to grab
another ladder. Either climb to the bottom or pull up and slide down some
slopes. Take either route and you end up in the same small area. If you slide
down the slope, turn to your right. Go to the wall in front of you. Go right
into a corner tunnel and pick up a small medipack.
Exit and pull out a block from the left corner. Push it into a tunnel near the
slopes. Enter the alcove the block came from and pick up a large medipack and shotgun
shells.
Go to the moveable block and hop onto it. Pull up into a
higher tunnel. Go forward onto a ledge and shoot three
eagles. Stand on the ledge and see a room with a lava floor. Look to the
right side of the entrance tunnel and you can see a column by the wall in the
lava. Run and jump to that column and pull up. This is very hard because a
corner wall gets your way. Press the pushbutton on the wall to open a gate on
the other side of the room.
The following procedure is painful. Save the game. Light a
flare to see where you are going. Then reload the game and do it again in the
dark. This way you save the only two flares that you have for when you really
need them.
Stand in the middle of the column and face the outer left
corner. Stand jump in that direction and land on a safe raised platform in the
lava floor. It is the same color as the floor. Face the back wall and stand
jump onto another safe raised platform. Walk towards the open door to the end
of the platform. Run and jump in that direction and land on another safe raised
platform. Turn left and stand jump to grab the ledge. Pull up and go to the
open door. And you enter another room with a lava floor.
This is the same procedure as before. Save the game. Light
a flare. Do something. Reload and do it again in the dark. Sometimes the LOOK
key is useful to see the platforms.
Go left down to the first platform at the lava floor
level. Stand jump to a raised platform in the lava. The fire goes out on a
raised platform to your right. Hop back to the wall platform and go onto that
new safe raised platform. Run and jump into the middle of the lava floor. You
should land on a safe raised platform. Turn to the left and run and jump onto
the left section of the structure that you see. Another fire goes out on a
raised platform at the wall. Run and
jump back to the raised platform that you just jumped from. Turn left and run
and jump onto a raised platform at the wall. Press the pushbutton on the dark
wall. Go back to the platform and the structure. Go to the right and drop down
to pick up a large medipack and automatic pistol clips.
Enter the open gate and shoot two
tigers. Pick up a small medipack near
the back wall. Enter a triangular tunnel in the far back wall corner. Follow
the tunnel to a cave. Hop onto a block and shoot three
tigers. Follow into the cave and see two water pools. Dive into the
first water pool and swim down a hole in the floor. Then swim down another hole
in the floor near the wall. Look for a closed gate and then turn to the left.
Swim through a lower crawl space and turn left. Swim through an upper crawl
space and turn right. Go to the end and turn to the left. Swim down and pick up
a large medipack. Swim up through an upper
crawl space and swim to the right. Swim into the first left tunnel. Follow the
tunnel as left, right, right, and left between two walls and you can surface
for much needed air. Save the game for a timed run.
Swim down towards the back wall and turn to the right.
Pull down the underwater lever on the wall and get a cut scene of the timed
gate opening. Then swim back to the timed gate through the lower, upper, and
lower crawl spaces. The timing is not very tight. You can make a few wrong
turns and still make it. I only noticed that it was timed because I surfaced
for air and got distracted by my cat looking for cat treats. When I did the
swim to the gate, the gate was closed. Pull up into a cave and shoot two tigers. Follow the caves through a short tunnel
and shoot three tigers.
Follow the caves to reach a pool of deadly water. You can
see a closed gate in a tunnel to your right. Look across the water and the
platforms with fires to see a closed timed gate. Run and jump to an alcove
across the water to the right corner. Save the game for a timed run. Press the
pushbutton and get a cut scene of the timed gate opening. Wait until the
pushbutton resets. Press the pushbutton again and there is no cut scene. Turn
to the left, hop back, and run and jump back to the entrance. Go to the right
and run down the tunnel. Turn to the right and you have a choice:
Route 1: Run and jump to grab a column over the water.
Pull up and run off the other side. Turn to the right, hop back, and run and
jump to a ledge with only one fire. The platform in the water to the left is a
fire trap. Turn to the left and stand jump onto a platform by the wall. Then
stand jump into the open timed gate. The gate closes on you butt. The timing is
not too tight. I made it on the fourth attempt after I learned the route.
Route 2: Run and jump diagonally to the ledge with only
one fire. It is a hard shortcut and can be done to save a few seconds. Step
forward diagonally and stand jump onto a platform by the wall. Then stand jump
into the open timed gate. The gate closes on you butt. The timing is not too
tight by this route.
Pull down the wall switch on the dark wall. Turn to the
right and jump up to grab the top of the wall. Shimmy to the right and pull up.
Slide down a slope and jump with a right curve to land on a platform. Face the
water and stand against the left wall. Run and jump to the platform near the
fires. If you jump too far to the right you hit an invisible block and fall
into the water. Follow the route back to the deadly water edge. Notice the open
gate in the tunnel ahead of you. Follow the tunnel to the end and hop up onto a
block to the left.
Save the game and then pull up onto the next block. Slide
down a slope and a rolling ball follows you. Do not worry about it but it
blocks the view of what is ahead. Slide down and jump over a spike trap.
Immediately stand jump forward and jump over a rolling ball coming towards you.
Turn the corner and see knife blades. I used a run and jump method. When the
first blade retracts, run pass the first knife blade and jump over the next two
knife blades. Stand jump over the fourth knife blade.
Climb the wall ladder and pull up into a tunnel. Follow
the tunnel to climb two blocks and another tall wall ladder. Pull up into a
short tunnel. Press the pushbutton on the wall and get a cut scene of a door
opening back at the pool with the dead spider. The door behind you also opens.
Exit the door and go left. Climb down the wall and drop onto a slope. Slide
into the water and pull up in front of the open door. Follow the tunnel and
slide down a slope into a large room.
Go left or right around the central structure and see two
closed doors. Opposite the closed doors
is an alcove with a wall switch. Go there and shoot two
giant spiders. Then pull down the wall switch to get a cut scene of a
door opening. Turn around and enter the right door. The left door is still
closed. Follow the corridor and shoot a tiger and
a three small spiders. Follow the corridor and
pass a closed door on your right. Go to the end and press a pushbutton on the
wall. Go back and the door is open. Enter the room carefully as two rolling
balls roll in front of you.
Jump onto the gray structure and go forward through a
short tunnel. You face a deep pit with spikes at the bottom. Jump the ledges
around the room to get to the opposite ledges. Run to the end and press a
pushbutton on the wall. Jump the ledges to return to the gray structure. You
see a column has risen in the room. Shoot a tiger
to the left and two giant spiders to the right.
Go to the right and see three blocks with images against the wall. Notice a
closed gate near the right block. The left bock is moveable. Pull that block
out and push it against the raised column. Pull up onto the column and press a
pushbutton. You should hear a gate open. Get down and enter the open gate in
the wall near the two remaining blocks with images.
Follow the tunnel to a large room. In the middle are two
tall columns. Besides the column are deep pits. Run between the columns to a
closed door. Pull down a wall switch and the door opens. Enter the room and go
up the steps. Pick up a Golden Mask (P1) and
place it in the receptacle on the wall and the level ends.
