THE
USURPED MONASTERY

GENERAL TIP: Always look where skeletons are lying, because these places
often have deadly traps in it. If there are more ways choose the one where no
skeletons lie.
The Pistols
Watch a long flyby and finally see Lara in a room with three fast-moving spiked
walls. She loses her somewhere in a pit you can’t enter. So run E and pick up Flares.
There are four alcoves in this room. Go to the SE one
and the fire turns out if you run onto it. Pick up a Stone Key and one of the two bulls
in this room will awake. Since you have no pistols yet you have to quickly run
away from him. So go W down the stairs and grab the E ladder
to climb it down into the cellar. Through a lattice you can see the
pistols but it’s not possible to get them right now. Instead go S and place the
Stone Key beneath the door. After the door opens go through and follow the
corridor until the floor changes a bit (you run slightly higher). Turn left and climb into the crawlspace and at the end of
the tunnel you finally earn the pistols.
Getting outside
Back to the beginning jump backwards to the little ramp, then to a ladder which
leads back to the tunnel. Do the same at the beginning of the cellar and
finally backflip into the beginning room and kill
both enemies (the second one awakes when
coming near him). They leave behind two Crystals of Energy. You unfortunately
cannot use them in the receptacles in this room, but in the cellar. So get back
there and this time run the corridor to the end. Another two bulls are in this
room – but no fear, they won’t awake. Place the crystals on the W wall and
quickly perform a back jump to avoid the blue laser which can highly damage
you. Wait until the lasers kill the bulls and take both of the Guards Gems. Return to the room with the four
fire alcoves at the beginning. You can use the gems in the receptacles there.
The middle door finally opens and you can get outside.
The Cemetery
The door closes when you go through. Jump into the greenish water and go N to
get two Healing Fungus there (one by
running over, one by picking up) and turn around S. Wade all the way through
avoiding the fungus which steam to the air. At a room where a dark figure
glides over the water ignore the tombs and the door to the church, instead go N
to get two more Healing Fungus and climb
the ladder at the very N end. Up there is a shootable
crate, but ignore this one, too, and jump E to a window. From
there monkeyswing NE onto another opening and from
there SE (hard jump) to the last opening. Shoot a window there and drop
into the hallway beneath you. Run down all the way S and then N around the
corner to run downstairs.
The Crowbar and The Head of Monk
In the middle of the room there is a headless statue holding a Crowbar in its
hands. Go left of it and behind the bull statue. The snake above you is a jumpswitch, so use it and the statue loses the Crowbar. After taking it run up the stairs S
again and see two more bull statues with a fire between. Climb the right one
and from there to the window opening. Jump down into the church. In the N,
right of the doors, is a well-hidden switch. Pull it and the gates open. Climb
the N ladder again and this time shoot the crate, then crawl and drop down into
the little room. At the other side of it shoot another crate and climb up into
the next area. There are four skulls to get but only one lets you stay alive if
you run out. First take the Flares SE
and then run in the only passage without skeleton (NE) to pry the Head of Monk off the wall. You have to get back
to the headless statue now where you received the Crowbar. After running, monkeyswinging and jumping, place the Head of Monk on the
Monk and a door far behind you opens.
Getting Guns and Ammo
You get to a translucent bridge. Right
at the beginning turn left and run-jump to a dark passage. Quickly take
the Revolver and Revolver Ammo before the gas kills you. Thereon
drop on the floor of the room and take Flares,
the Lasersight,
3x Shotgun Ammo and (last!) the Shotgun. After taking it you soon have to use it,
as all four bull statues awake and you
either have to shoot them or quickly climb the ladder on the N wall. In the
passage turn around and perform a little curved jump back onto the bridge.
Fire and Knife Trap
Shoot all five torches before the exit of the room to
turn off the fires in the next room. Now that you can run over the floor go NE
in this room and push a block to open the way onto a slope. Jump on and when
some knifes appear jump over them (it’s luck-reliant if you manage or not).
Lion Food
When finally got on the floor alive pick up the Shotgun
(if you don’t have it yet) and Shotgun Ammo.
Run upstairs into a room with several statues and see that two of them contain skeletons.
In the only one without skeletons grab into the wall relief
twice to get the Lion Food. If
you like get Flares and 2x Shotgun Ammo N,
then leave this room. Back S jump over the fence to land in knee-high water
again.
Dragons and Access Key
In the next room there is a big closed gate S. Run into the NW corner and a
monkey opens the gate for you. There is also a crawlspace in this corner but
don’t use it since the spikes inside will kill you directly. Instead run
through the door and watch two baby dragons on the broken columnar. If you
shoot at them a message will come: “Hey, they do not have hurt you”. Run NW
around the corner and kill the parents of the dragons,
who are not as sweet to you as their children. Climb into the N opening behind
the green plants and crawl(!) as far left as you can
because otherwise the spikes would kill you. Meet another baby dragon, take the Flares
and go W to find two Healing Fungus and
to climb into a N crawlspace. Shoot the crate in here and drop into the little
room. To the left there is a snake rope. Pull it once, then wait a bit and take
the Access Key from the snake’s mouth.
Climb and crawl back into the grotto.
Using the Key
In the last room don’t crawl into the NE crawlspace as
it is the other side of the deadly spike trap. Instead make sure you have full
health and sprint and roll through the SE spikes. While rolling immediately
take another Medikit to prevent Lara from dying. [alternative provided by cheng: Pull the snake rope once, then wait a bit and take
the Access Key from the snake’s mouth. Climb and crawl back into the grotto. At
this time a grid door is opened outside. Jump up there and pull a switch on the
wall and the spike in the NE crawlspace will be deactivated after flyby shows a
baby dragon is killed.] In the last,
waterish room go SE to the exit of this room and climb the wall ladder, then backflip over the fence. Run upstairs and place the Access
Key into the W keyhole.
Flooding the Room, Floating up
You are at the top of the waterish room. Go N into the passage to place the Lion Food for completely
flooding the room. Jump in and swim to the other side, then
leave through the S opening. In the next room you will find something
that looks like a floor lever. Stand in front of it facing E
and kick it down. “Oh my god!” Lara begins to
float to the top of the room. “This is great! This is awesome!” As soon as
someone says “Look at me!” turn Lara so she looks directly in the eyes on the
wall. After three shouts Lara will magically jump to the nearest platform.
Stair Blades, Coffin, Boulders
Run up the ramp there and get to a stairway. There are two ways you can avoid
the blades which kill you when stopping on it (NOTE: If you reload, all blades
work together once so you get killed whether you’ve already triggered them or
not). The first way which works at the first four stairs:
Stand right before the to-trigger stair and perform a roll twice (press End).
The second you have to use at the last one is that you GO to the rightmost or
leftmost point of the room and get on the trigger stair. The blades will be
activated but their knifes will miss Lara. Reach the
coffin room and climb the E blocks, then exactly jump over the coffin so that
it opens. Jump in the pool under it and climb out near a ramp. To the E you can
see a hole with a spiked boulder in it, so be prepared for more! Run up until
four boulders will be triggered, backflip and sprint
for your life back W and then in the right passage where you came from. It is
possible that you have to do that more than once because it’s possible not to
trigger all boulders together.
The Circle Trap
At the top of the ramp go S. You can climb W or E but only the W way is good
for surviving because a rotating blade makes the way through the ring. If the
blade has just gone over your head jump up W, run a few metres
and press End to turn the direction so that you fall onto a slope. Don’t hang
from this slope but immediately perform a backflip so
that you can survive the fall onto another slope. From there quickly climb the
right ladder (S) to an alcove. Turn around and shoot the door at the other side
(N) of the room, then wait for the blades to roll away and jump into this
alcove.
Getting outside again
Run to the end of the corridor and pull the switch at the end (on the E wall)
to open a lattice nearby. Jump into it, shoot the crate and follow the
crawlspace out into a platform above a courtyard. There is a door which is
unfortunately closed which requires a key. Since you haven’t got it yet we have
to go into the E corridor.
The big Pool Room
Simply jump up to a monkeyswing and follow it into a
big pool room with a sleeping guardian in the middle. Don’t fall into the pool
as there is no way out yet. When you finally reached the E opening drop down
into the little pool there and directly swim out. Shoot the crate at the end
and crawl into a little area with another crate to shoot. When you’ve jumped
and crawled to the next room shoot the church window and jump into the church.
Take out your Shotgun and shoot four snakes
in there. Take the Gate Key off the
pedestal and leave this room again.
SECRET 1: Back in the first waterish
room take out your Revolver and combine it with the Lasersight.
Deep in the water is another crate to shoot. Do it and swim through to get
access to the first secret: A Monk Statuette.
Quickly swim away from the four snakes.
Back where you can climb out again hang on the S lattice to shimmy W on the
block. Monkeyswing back to the courtyard. This time the guardian wakes up and begins to shoot at you.
There’s nothing you could do against it so be prepared to take Medikits or Fungus.
The Courtyard, Boss Fight
When you are under the open sky again use the Gate Key
N and run down the first couple of stairs.
SECRET 2: When you see a lattice turn E
and drop off the ledge facing W. Let yourself fall and
press Action to grab the second ledge. Climb in the crawlspace and shoot the
crate. You can find a Monk Statuette S
for the second secret. Pull the switch N and climb out of the little room to
find yourself back on the stairway.
You don’t have to go downstairs as there is nothing to do. Do you see the
pedestal? Run onto the square with it and face SSW to see a ledge where it’s
possible to jump to. After doing so shimmy to the rightmost point of the ledge
and climb up. Slide down and do a banana jump right to avoid both the fire and
the deadly water. In the inner courtyard you can find Flares (you have to crawl to get them). Then go E
behind the boss monster which is sleeping at the moment. At the end of the corridor pick up the Secret
Key and leave. When going back to the courtyard the monster awakes. There is no way to kill it with
guns! Instead go S into the middle dead end and at the end wait for the monster
to appear. The floor is quite fragile and as the monster comes in it decays and
the monster dies (be sure to have full health because the fall costs much). Go
N and pull the switch to open the door.
The Hidden Scroll
At a T-junction go W and upstairs to open the door
with the Secret Key. “The Pact Scroll!” Take it from
the hand and turn SE to shoot a crate. Run-jump with a curve
to it and grab the ledge. In the crawlspace grab twice
into the hole to get the Stone Key.
Go back to the long hallway and this time to the other side.
SECRET 3: Don’t use the Secret Key yet.
Instead climb in the last E alcove (to the right). From there you can turn
around and jump NE to an alcove with a shootable
crate. Behind it is a waterish room with another two snakes to shoot. Run to the very W and climb onto the slope. Go
into the right passage and find the last Monk
Statuette for the third and last secret. Thereon jump back over the
slope and climb on a slope near the exit and slide and jump a few times until
you can drop onto the floor where you’ve been before again.
Use the key in the E receptacle (“Oh, finally!”) and climb up the stairs. Enjoy the final cutscene.
