SNOW OF TIBET
Level by Ray Croft

Begin standing on a
ledge before an undulating pool of water. Find the nearby large medipack
and note the keyhole. Jump in the water, which is dangerously cold, so
quickly pick up the SILVER KEY on the
ledge and pull back out before you freeze to death. Open the gate to the
grated floor with the Silver Key and enter. The S wall is climbable, so
get up to the upper ledge and jump across to the N ledge. The wall here
is also climbable, so climb up to a still higher ledge and pull up to face the
great outdoors. First, turn around and jump to grab the suspended
platform. Pull up onto it and backflip onto a ledge that surrounds this
upper area. Enter the NE crawl space for a small
medipack and some flares.
This apparently registers as SECRET #1,
although I didn't hear the telltale chimes.
Get down to the lower
ledge and walk through the blue weeds. Watch the extended (and rather
meaningless, as you can't access the areas it shows) flyby that's triggered
when you reach the brown weeds. Step forward and find poisonous crossbow arrows in the weeds near the
NW corner. Look down into the nearby pit. You can see a somewhat
anomalous red rose growing out of the ice, but if you drop down to get it you
find you can't pick it up. Nothing else to do down
here, so climb back out and go through the N opening.
Slide backwards down the long slope and grab the edge. Shimmy all the
way to the right and pull up onto a flat spot. Jump forward into a slight
depression and pick up the flares for SECRET #2 (again, no chimes). Hop back, grab the
edge again and shimmy left to the other wall, pull up and jump off with a roll
to dive down into some freezing water. Swim quickly over to the NE corner and pull
up into the alcove. Pick up the MONASTERY KEY,
which causes the door in the NW alcove to open. Swim there and pull
out. Go through the opened doorway and push the floor lever on the ledge
to your right. This opens a door elsewhere.
Continue N toward the swinging spike bags and trigger some action
music. Save your game in preparation for a really tight timed run.
That face tile near the floor lever opens a timed door beyond the swinging
bags, and you need to be really quick to get there in time. Even without
the bags it would be tight. If you can't make it legally, the flycheat is
enabled. Either way, push the floor lever in the alcove at the end.
A cutscene shows the area you just left, so go back there (you can shimmy past
the bags along the E edge if you're weary from your exertions).
The door opposite the
floor lever is now open. There's a small
medipack near one of the crosses. Drop down into the trench
and pick up the DOOR KEY. The door
on the other end of the short canal opens. Go there and vault up into the
new room. All the blocks in here are moveable. You can see an
inaccessible opening in the S wall, so your task is to form a
N-S bridge so that you can first move the upper block to the S wall, then form
an E-W bridge to move the upper block beneath the S opening. Go to it;
you don't need a walkthrough for the details. When you're done, climb up
into the upper area and trigger another interminable flyby.
I went around
shooting all the jugs, which turned out to be empty. Enter the E side
room and pull up through the ceiling hole near the NE corner so the swinging
spike bags won't skewer you. Push the floor lever. Hop down and
return to the main room to find that the SW door is now open. Go through
and enter a lava room. Take a running jump and grab across the lava, pull
up and take a standing jump and grab to the higher ledge. Pull up and
find another floor lever to push. Jump down to the lower ledge and take a
running jump and grab N (the higher portion only) to exit. Return to the
main room. If you're in a masochistic mood, save your game here and take
a graceful swan dive into the pit for a most satisfying crunch when you finally
reach the bottom.
In any event, go
around the ledge to the SE corner. Pull up onto the block opposite the
gate and shoot the jug on the higher N pillar to get it out of your way.
Take a running jump to the pillar, turn left and take a standing jump to grab
the edge of the ceiling. Pull up and use the S wall to climb still
higher. Shift right and drop down onto a crate. Turn around and
take a running jump N to the red carpet. Enter the NW alcove for the SILVER KEY. Hmm, lots of unused keys, no
keyholes. Yet. Those two crates are
moveable. Pull them out of the way to reveal a keyhole in the SW
corner. Use your Silver Key to open the gate in the opposite NE
corner.
Go there and walk
through the blue weeds to use your Door Key at the NE corner. The door
opens in the SE corner. Ah, enemies at last. Shoot the wolf and the soldier.
Get up onto the higher W ledge if you'd like another large medipack. Get down and go through the E
alley. Use your Monastery Key to open the gate. Step through
to end the level.
