LOST SPIRIT OF THE CAVEMEN

Level by Astraf

Walkthrough by Phil Lambeth

Lara slides down to a room that presents her with a choice of weapons. Pick your favorite, whereupon the remaining plinths burst into flames. Hint: If I were you, I'd pick the shotgun to deal with the skeletons you'll encounter later. If you should run out of ammo for your selected weapon, I found that you then get the pistols with unlimited ammo. Get on the SE block and jump around counterclockwise until you arrive at the wheel. Pull it eight or nine times, turn right and hop back down to the floor, turn a bit right and sprint toward the lowering door, reverse rolling against it to get through.

In the next room find flares in the SE corner. Go to the N side of the room, pull up onto the ledge there and jump W for more flares. Note the receptacle near the NW corner and get over to the SW corner. Pull up into the gap between the columns to find ammo for whatever weapon you selected earlier. Get back down and jump to grab the triangular opening in the S wall (you may have to fight the collision of that broken column). Pull inside and run forward to an opening with dart traps down below.

Take a running jump E to grab the wall between the marked ladder surfaces, climb down to avoid the dart traps and safety drop when Lara is hanging from the very bottom. Pull out of the floor hole and push the floor lever to open the gate behind you and release a wolf. Go to the S wall and loop around right to find ammo for your weapon. Ignore the opened gate for now (it leads back to the beginning room) and go the other way (S) into a cave reminiscent of TR1. Shot another wolf and continue up the snowy slope past a large opening on your right. You'll meet two more wolves near the top. When you can go no further, hop up onto the ledge, get behind the block and push it down the slope.

Follow the boulder down the slope to find that it has created quite a large hole. Drop down and Lara will look up at a closed door in the NW corner. In my game this never took on any significance. If anyone found otherwise, please let me know. There's also an inaccessible triangular opening up in the SW corner. You can do nothing more here now, so pull out and go to that N gate you opened with the floor lever. Go up the ramp, loop around left and jump back to that triangular opening in the S wall.

Return to the opening with the dart traps. This time turn around, and with your left shoulder near (but not against) the wall jump back to grab the edge. Climb down a bit, shift left and climb up to the crawl space. Release for just an instant, grab and pull into the crawl space.

Follow around to where you can stand, pick up ammo for your weapon and slide down S. Jump off to activate the jump switch, opening the door ahead of you as you land. Go up the steps to a remote camera shot showing you a triggered boulder and hop back as it rolls by. Loop around left to a floor lever that opens the nearby door and raises a block next to a pushpiece in the next room. Go there and pull the pushpiece away from an opening that provides access to a new room.

Go up the ramp, pull up onto the slope to your right and back flip to the higher ledge. Save your game, then go up and around the ledge to awaken a skeleton. If you're fast enough you can continue past it, and from the top of the ledge jump N to the slope and jump off to grab the E ledge. Pull up, jump up to shoot the wooden barrier, wait just an instant and hop back onto the slope as a boulder drops down in front of you. Slide briefly and jump back to the ledge. Turn around, jump back to the slope and use the cracks to get safely down to the floor.

The boulder has triggered a fountain and a door has opened in the SE corner. Go down the steps and turn left into a familiar area. The central hole is now filled with water, but there's nothing to do or find there. Loop around right to see that the area opened up by the boulder is also flooded. Jump in, swim to the triangular opening in the SW corner and pick up the CROWBAR. Pull out of the water, go up the snowy slope to that opening you passed by earlier, stand right and slide down the slope. Jump off with a right curve near the end to land on a ledge occupied by two wolves. Grab the small medipack in the SW corner and follow the ledge (the one against the N wall) E to encounter a third wolf.

Continue around to the end of the ledge and pry off the BROKEN BEETLE with your crowbar. Water starts flowing and a block rises behind you. Jump there and pry a second BROKEN BEETLE off the wall. A block rises against the S wall, so hop over there and pry off the BLACK BEETLE as a flyby shows you that this area has now been flooded. Drop into the water and swim to the W end. Squeeze past the small triangular opening and follow the passage toward the opening at the end.

Just before you get there, flip turn so that when the current carries you out you can slide halfway down the waterfall and grab the edge. Release to fall into the water, where three barracudas are waiting for you. Pull out W and shoot the fish. Jump back in to find a small medipack against the E wall, but ignore the S opening for now. Pull out of the water and pick up a TORCH from the nearby pile. Note the sleeping skeleton and go up the steps to light the torch.

The skeleton awakens, of course, but unless you chose the shotgun at the beginning there's little you can do but try to keep away from it while you're trying to find out what to do with the torch. Go to the N wall and up the small ramp to the left of the broken column. Hop up into the opening, turn left and jump up the slope. Turn left again and jump to the roof of the temple structure. Drop the torch a moment while you pick up the large medipack against the W wall, then go to the E end, directly opposite the waterfall and drop down onto a ledge. Light the sconce there to open the gate down below.

Jump down into the water, pull out W and run up the steps past the skeleton. You can find ammo on the SW slab and also in a hole against the N wall next to the broken column before going past the opened E gate. Take the PHAROS PILLAR from the plinth, releasing a wraith and activating a spike trap behind you as well as dart traps in the alcoves. Get past the spikes and dart traps, then shoot at the wraith in the hope that it goes away (it did in my case, even though I'd run out of ammo by that time and had to use my pistols).

Jump into the water, swim into the S opening and follow until you can pull out into a small room. A block has risen in the SE, so after picking up the small medipack in the NE corner use the block to pull up N onto the ledge. Run up the plant-covered ramp, drop down at the end and try to target and shoot the two barracudas swimming about in the water below.  Jump into the water and pull out at the other end. Save your game for a tricky jump sequence. Back flip NE onto the corner of the slope and jump off to the corner of the next slope. Jump again to grab a third slope, pull up and back flip onto a flat ledge.

Hop up N, walk forward and climb the green wall to one block from the top, take a rolling back flip to grab the block behind you, climb and pull up and back flip onto a corner ledge. Jump into the nearby water hole, swim left, then right and up the shaft to pull out into a jungle area. Pick up the nearby uzi ammo, shotgun ammo and revolver ammo (something for everybody, but at this point it doesn't really matter) and hop up E to shoot a wolf. Continue E and slide down to encounter two more wolves. Find a large medipack in an E alcove, hop back twice and turn left to run through a phantom wall for SECRET #1 and 2 x small medipack. If there were any more secrets in this level, I missed them.

Exit and go back to the W slope where you slid down. Stand facing the NE ladder, back flip onto the slope and jump off to grab the ladder. Climb up to the ledge, run forward and jump to one of those wheels you used at the beginning of this level. Pull it three or four times to open the S gate you can see ahead and to your right. Jump forward over the wheel to the ground and run into the S opening (much easier than the first one). Run up the ramp to a familiar room, loop around right and place the Pharos Pillar in the NW receptacle you noted earlier.

The iris door in the W wall rolls aside, so go there and wait for the wayward wraith to arrive and explode with a satisfying bang on the bird statute. Then take the PHAROS KNOT from the plinth and the next iris door rolls away to reveal a lush landscape. Run forward, pull up and run toward the sunshine to end the level.
