Level 1: THE CASTLE IN THE WOODS

Lara begins in what looks like a museum art exhibit. When you run forward and take the GOLDEN TEAR OF DESIRE from the plinth, the gate ahead opens. Go through to trigger a flyby through an outdoor area to which Lara has been transported. Go up to your left through the plant-covered NE opening to attract the attention of two vultures. Let's save exploration of this area for later, as a gate first needs to be opened inside.

 

Go back W along the tree roots and drop down through the leaves onto a ledge with flares. Pull back out, go to the other side of the bridge and slide down to the right of the palm tree below to a small triangular ledge. Take a running jump NE with grab so you'll glide underneath the bridge and land on a sloped ledge. Shoot the barrier and go inside to find a wall switch that opens the gate I mentioned earlier.

 

For now, however, jump into the water below, note the closed NE gate and find flares on the floor near the SE corner. Pull out NW, jump S to the sloped block and look up where you jumped from to see the climbing surfaces (later). Take a running jump E (no grab) to the next block. Turn right and jump S to the next block, and from there take a running jump to grab the S opening. Pull up and run into the cave to find flares on your left. Go around in the other direction and come to a water hole.

 

Jump in and swim S, looping around right into a narrow opening and turning left to swim W to the wall. Turn right and continue around to a small cavern for SECRET #1. Pick up the large medipack, poison arrows and uzi ammo, grab some air in the nearby air hole and go back the way you came. Swim N through the long tunnel until you reach an open area. Turn left where you can get air, and pick up the CROWBAR on the ledge in front of the closed S gate.

 

Swim through the narrow NW opening and follow around to where you can pull out for SECRET #2. Go around to your right for a large medipack and uzi ammo, and crawl forward for more uzi ammo and some explosive arrows. Go back, jump into the water and swim all the way back to the water hole by which you arrived. Pull out into the pink-tinted passage and return to the starting area. Take a running jump N to the next block (if you miss and fall into the water, just pull out NW and get back to the climbing block the way you did earlier).

 

Take a standing jump N to grab the ladder. Shift left around the corner, climb up to the previous ledge, turn around and stand jump to grab the monkey bars. Monkey swing across the gap and drop in front of the passage leading to the flares you grabbed earlier. Pull out through the leaves and go to the NE opening where you encountered the vultures. Go on through and find the opened gate on your right. Just past it, hidden in the plant between the two palm trees, is a large medipack.

 

Before going through the opened gate, go to the W end of this area, hop up left over the slope and pick up a hard-to-see TORCH. Take it with you to the opened gate, hop inside and leave the torch here for the time being. Shoot the W crate for uzi ammo and the E crate for crossbow arrows. Retrieve the torch, go down the E stairs and engage a dog and a mercenary (uzi ammo) in a lower room with a pool. The NE crate has more uzi ammo, the SE crate has flares. Push the floor lever to open the W gates and go into the next room to light your torch.

 

Leave the torch where you can find it and return to the pool room. Move the E pushpiece onto the marked NW tile to lift a gate somewhere. Enter the W room with the lion statue and push the floor lever to open the W gates. Go to the E side room and shoot the crate for uzi ammo. Pull down the wall switch to lift the S gate and engage a mercenary. Enter a new pool room and jump into the water for a small medipack.

 

Retrieve your torch from wherever you left it and take it to the most recent pool room S. Light the W wall sconce to open a W gate and bring forth a mercenary, who drops the GUARD KEYS. Go up NW to the end of the passage and use the Guard Keys to open a gate in the pool. Light the E wall sconce in the pool room to open the E gate to a chapel. First, jump into the pool, swim S past the opened gate and grab the CROSSBOW. Pull out and enter the E chapel to find that you need a star pickup. In the back of the chapel is a short passage with a wall switch. Pull it down to lift the gate to a previous pool room.

 

Exit this pool room up the NW stairs, continue up the next set of stairs NW and come out onto a terrace. Loop around left to the W side and flush out a dog and a mercenary (uzi ammo). Continue S along the terrace to meet another dog, and shoot the empty crate at the end if you wish. However, the trip there was not in vain. Vault up right and take a running jump W over the leaves to land on a stable ledge. Jump forward for SECRET #3. Pick up 2 x uzi ammo, a small medipack and shotgun ammo and return to the terrace. Go around right to the SE corner and shoot a crate for a small medipack. Go back to the W wall and find the rock bridge between two palm trees, at the end of which is uzi ammo. Return to where you entered the terrace and continue E up the steps to an indoor balcony. Go around, shoot the crates blocking your way for flares and uzi ammo, and go out onto the front porch to find a crate with crossbow arrows.

 

Return to the S side of the indoor balcony and look over the railing to see the ladder. Jump over the railing down to a ledge and jump N to grab the ladder. Climb up and back flip into an alcove. Jump NE to grab the opening and pull up quickly to deal with the mercenary who's firing at you. Pick up the uzi ammo he dropped, together with the nearby shotgun ammo and small medipack, then shoot the crate for the LASER SIGHT. Part of the W fence above the slope is shootable. Create an opening, face E and back flip over the slope, slide and grab the roof edge, quickly shimmy left while a vulture attacks and pull up into the alcove to deal with it. Grab the SHOTGUN for SECRET #4, hang left and safety drop to the terrace.

 

Enter the indoor balcony, go to the E wall and turn around to see the boulder above the waterfall. Combine the crossbow and laser sight and use an explosive arrow to dislodge the boulder. Go back the way you came and look down left over the railing as you're about to exit the balcony. Jump over the railing for the shotgun ammo and jump from there into the water below. The boulder has opened the underwater W gate, so swim past it and down the ramp to be taken to the next level.

 

Level 2: CAVES OF THE KNIGHTS

Lara picks up where she left off. Allow her to be carried over the waterfall to fall into a trench. Swim forward into a pool and down a shallow hole for the UZIS. Pull out somewhere, shoot two bats and note for later the keyhole in the S wall. Grab the flares on the dark E side and use the W slope to jump to the roof surrounding the pool. Go around for flares and jump to the NE ledge for poison arrows suspended in midair that are almost impossible to pick up (but be persistent and try stooping).

 

Jump back to the roof and go to the NW corner. Hop over to the NW ledge and pull up W into an opening. Pull up right and follow around to a pit overlooking a water hole. Jump down NW onto a ledge, slide down and loop around right for a small medipack and enter the S passage opposite the water hole. Get the shotgun ammo in the alcove on your left and continue to the dark S end. Pull up left into the crawl space and follow to a small cave for SECRET #5 and revolver ammo, uzi ammo and explosive arrows (stoop for those).

 

Return to the water hole and jump in. Pause for flares while swimming to the N wall. Turn right there through the small opening and continue until you can surface and pull out into a cramped area. Walk into the N opening and pry the GOLDEN STAR off the wall. You've reached a dead end, so swim back to the water hole, pull out and use the ramp to climb up to the ledge where you jumped down earlier. Take a running jump SE and exit to the pool area down below. 

 

Use the Guard Keys to lift the W gate above the keyhole and hop inside. You'll get a cut scene of a golden cross that you can see in the distance when you enter the area ahead. Grab the shotgun ammo on your right and slide down S to jump off onto the roof surrounding a pool down below. Note the receptacle, shoot two bats and grab the uzi ammo in the SW corner. There's another GOLDEN STAR on the S wall, so add it to your collection. Jump from the NW corner of the roof to the flat spot, pull up N and jump over the slope to the entrance passage.

 

Go on through to the first pool, jump into the water and swim N along the trench underneath the waterfall. Pull out at the end and pull down the wall switch to open the gates at the top of the stairs. Go on up to be carried back to the first level.

 

Level 1: THE CASTLE IN THE WOODS (revisited)

Push the floor lever to open the next set of doors. Step into a familiar pool room and go left through the S opening into the chapel you noted earlier. Place a Golden Star in the receptacle beind the altar to lift the gate overhead. Hop up into a hallway and turn right (W). Follow up the stairs and take the WORSHIPPER OF THE SUN from the plinth. Go back and follow the hallway E up the stairs and around to a balcony. Open the W gates with the Guard Keys and step out onto an outdoor balcony visited previously.

 

Jump over the railing into the water below and pull out of the pool. Go through the N opening and turn right (E) into the other pool room. Jump into the water and swim through the W opening past the boulder and down the ramp to be taken back to the second level.

 

Level 2: CAVES OF THE KNIGHTS (revisited)

Drop over the waterfall's edge into the trench, pull out and hop into the S passage. Slide down the other side, jump to the roof as before and stand in front of the receptacle. Combine the Golden Tear with the Worshipper and place the KEEPER OF THE SUN to trigger a cut scene of the Keeper spinning upward and the S gates opening down below.

 

Drop to the floor, enter S and slide down left. Pick up shotgun ammo as you descend the blocks and come to a blocked alcove containing torches. Shoot the barrier with your pistols and slide down right to deal with a knight. Jump back up the slope, pull up N into the alcove and grab a TORCH. Take it down where you met the knight and leave it on the ledge where you can find it again.

 

Take a running jump from the N end of the ledge to grab the next ledge. Pull up, go around right, jump up the slope and vault up into the N opening at the end. Walk forward, take a running jump over the hole (low ceiling), grab the opening and pull up for SECRET #6. Grab the large medipack, explosive arrows and revolver ammo, safety drop from the edge and slide down to the dark cavern floor.

 

Jump into the small trench for a small medipack and go up the SW steps to encounter a jackal. You see where you can light your torch, so go back down the stairs, climb onto the nearby block and pull up W to retrieve your torch. For a pickup, you can loop around left and take a running jump to the E ledge for a large medipack. Hop down with your torch onto the same block you used to climb up here, light the torch SW and then light the W wall sconce to open the gates at the top of the stairs. However, it's not that easy, as there's a closed gate up at the other end if you go that way. There are more sconces to light, so get back down to the floor and find sconce #2 near the NE stairs.

 

Sconce #3 is directly opposite sconce #2 on the other side of the scroll stand. Look just to the left of sconce #2 and see the opening in the N wall. Hop up there, face E and back flip onto the slope. Jump off into a higher E opening and follow around to an outer ledge. Hop over the gap and into the S opening.  Light sconce #4 just ahead and the gate opens. Rush inside, drop the torch and engage a knight. Go around the room and collect 2 x uzi ammo before lighting sconce #5 near the SW corner.

 

The gate there opens, so take the torch down to the beginning area and leave it on the ledge (just in case you're not through with it yet, as there as more sconces that could be lighted - but as it turns out, you're done with the torch). Go back up the stairs to the previous room and climb the S ladder to an upper ledge. Go around to the back and take the scroll (called the COMMANDMENT OF THE KNIGHTS) from the plinth. As you do so a fire wraith is summoned, so get down quickly, go through the SW doorway and around to return to the beginning area. Jump into that little trench where you found the small medipack to douse the wraith.

 

Get out, go to the scroll stand and place the Commandment of the Knights to lift the gate ahead. Go on into the next room as a knight mounts an invisible horse. Shoot him off his perch and engage him on foot, noting that he's much harder to kill than most knights. He drops the JEWEL OF VIRTUE when he dies. Go up the S steps and shoot the jugs in the sloped alcoves for 2 x uzi ammo. From one of the alcoves pull up onto the roof. Place the Jewel of Virtue to open the gates down below. Get down there, enter the hallway and go up the stairs to start a mild earthquake and begin the third level.

 

Level 3: THE LEGENDARY KNIGHT HALL

Go up the winding stairs, grabbing the revolver ammo, shotgun ammo and 2 x small medipack along the way, and emerge at a hallway with closed gates at one end and more pickups (large medipack, small medipack, shotgun ammo and revolver ammo) at the other. The gates open as you approach them, reveal the black-clad destroyer.

 

Scattered about the perimeter of the room are 2 x large medipack, 3 x shotgun ammo, 3 x small medipack and 3 x revolver ammo. There are lava pits to avoid and shallow water pools in case you catch fire. In the N wall is a receptacle for your remaining Golden Star. When you place it the gate in the S wall opens. Go up the stairs to an opening overlooking destroyer hall.

Jump to the first platform ahead for the REVOLVER and a spare SHOTGUN. There are other pickups you could collect if you wanted to take the time to jump the platforms, but at this point they're quite unnecessary. Hop down to the floor and pepper the destroyer with revolver fire at close range, just as he's getting ready to swing his sword. He should come down relatively quickly. When he does, pick up the LAST WORD he dropped and place it on the scroll stand near the W altar.

 

The gates open, so go up the stairs to that golden cross you saw much earlier and take it from the plinth for a concluding flyby.
