ICE CARBON CHAOS

Level by Scourge05

Walkthrough by Treeble

Lara begins the level with her back to a locked door which requires a Tibetan Mask. Collect the shotgun shells and flares from the opposing alcoves and head towards the shallow pool populated by two barracudas. Ignore the lever for now and head inside the temple in the back. Collect more flares and climb to the central walkway for two small medipacks. Shoot the bell in the alcove to the right to raise the first gate, then return to the lever in the shallow pool and save your game.

This is a timed run, but you need to prevent Lara from falling into the deeper pits of the pool in order to make it in time. The gate is inside the temple, opposite the bell, so throw the lever, turn left and run over the raised underwater floor tiles to get there. If you fail to make it in time, reload your saved game and try again.

You'll be locked in an area with another pool and several raised slopes. You can explore the area for flares near a closed door. From the now shut entrance gate, climb up the wall near the reddish dirt floor. From this vantage point, hop to the alcove in the back (remember to hold down the Action key to "glide" under low ceilings) and throw the lever to open the door in the current area pool. Swim through the tunnel to surface in a complicated room...

Retrieve the shotgun shells and small medipacks from the corners and and notice the nearby pushblock, it'll serve as a stepping stone to reach the door above but we've got to figure out how to open it first. This room is filled with bouncing pads which can be very unpredictable, so remember to save often and in different slots as you navigate this room.

Past the pushblock, do a running jump towards the bouncing pad at water level to land on the higher ledge beyond. Climb up the ladder to a slope, then jump off at the last possible moment to bounce off the next pad, hopefully with enough momentum to grab or land on the walkway ahead (hold down action to stretch Lara's arms just before she lands on the bouncing pads). Run to the right end of the walkway and turn to face the edge, then save your game.

Just below the suspended structure in the center of the room is another bouncing pad, but it's a bit too far away. So, line up to it and do a running jump with late grab to barely touch the bouncing pad; it'll still boost you to a slide above where you have to react quickly or else you slide into death tiles. Quickly jump towards the next bouncing pad, again holding down the Action key to spread Lara's arms and gain some momentum to land into the alcove above.

Face the slope to your left and look beyond it for a narrow ledge. You need to do a precise running jump around and over the slope to grab that ledge. Unlike TR4 levels, Lara will come to a full stop if she slightly bumps into the slope. What worked for me was walk up to the slope, turn to face the edge of the alcove and do one side-step to the left, then rotate and line up slightly to the left of the slope, before hopping back for the running jump with late grab. Steer as close to the wall as possible to make it, but don't celebrate just yet!

Walk until you are positioned between the streams of discs, finding the sweet spot where neither of them hit you. Look to the left and notice a leafy slope off to your right. You need to do a running jump to land on said slope and bounce off to the flat tan platform beyond. Do a running jump but only swerve to the right once Lara reaches the apex of her jump, otherwise she might bump and fall. When you finally stick the landing, throw the lever to open a gate near the beginning.

Turn around and locate the slope on the right side of the suspended structure. Jump to it and bounce off to a hidden alcove with another lever: this one opens the door near the pushblock below. To the left of this slope is yet another one, so do a running jump to it and slide to a safe spot. Climb down the ladder to a higher column in the nightmare room. If you're not interested in getting the secret, you can drop down to the water and proceed to the pushblock, skipping the next paragraph.

From this spot, turn towards the bouncing pad. You need to land on it with enough momentum to reach the alcove beyond the slope above. Walk to the edge and hop backwards, then hold down the Walk button and press forward, immediately letting go of Walk and pressing the Jump button. This is a one-step running jump, it comes in handy every now and then. Anyway, tap and hold Action just before she lands on the bouncing pad for the extra momentum and keep holding the Forward key to ensure she beats the slope. Run down the corridor for the only SECRET of this level: the GOLD DRAGON, plus the M-16 ASSAULT RIFLE and shotgun shells. Climb down the ladder on the opposite side and backflip into the pool to to avoid the spikes at the bottom, then swim to the pushblock by the entrance.

You can see the one-step running jump in this <url=https://youtube.com/watch?v=31YVnfehfsg>short clip</url>.

Move the block and cross the open door to find a lever which opens a big blue door at the shallow pool, so work your way back there through the underwater tunnel and past the gates opposite the bell. Once you enter the next area, you'll find yourself above a small hedge maze of sorts. You can examine the area below if you like, but it's not particularly difficult to navigate, even though it's on a tight timer and you can be locked forever if you don't make it in time.

Drop through the hole and save your game in front of the first lever. Throw the lever and run towards the junction, into the alcove to the left for another lever. Quickly backflip with a midair roll and run to the opposite end of the junction, looping around the wall and entering the next alcove to the left for another lever. Roll and quickly run past the open door and to the right for a final lever, then quickly retreat through the door you came before it closes and do a hairpin turn left to find the exit. Stop at the flares for a breather and take this chance to make a new save point.

Standing slightly to the right side, slide towards the black circle below and immediately side flip to the left twice to dodge the boulders and put off some flames on the third black circle. Hopefully you'll slide into it as close to the wall as possible, so as soon as you can, make a running jump while doing a hard turn right to land on the next black circle tile. The last two jumps are safe from boulders, so feel free to take your time. You should see the mask in the distance, but best to make another save point just before entering the tunnel with flickering lights.

Negotiate the combination of swinging spike logs and wall mounted blades as best as you can to finally claim the P1 TIBETAN MASK. Don't be hasty, however, as the tile right beyond it is deadly. So, save your game and turn slightly to the right, jumping over the lower wall to land on a slope. This is the first of a series of sloped jumps you need to take, none of which is difficult, for a change, until you eventually land on a safe spot. Jump straight to the ladder because floor beneath it isn't safe, though.

At the top of the ladder, kill the mercenary and loot his body for flares. Jump to the checkered platform and stand at its highest point, facing a similar platform in the corner. Do a running jump from this point and keep the Jump button pressed to bounce off and barely land on a flat spot just past the bend.

Run up the crooked tunnels for another trap-filled hallway. Avoid the blades and discs as you hop over the deadly blue liquid. The door opens upon approach, just remember to hold the Action button to glide under the low ceiling and you'll be back to a previous area. Exit through the gates opposite the bell and work your way past the initial shallow pool to finally use that mask we've worked so hard for.

Beyond the door is a small gully. Just as the water gets deeper, locate a flat spot on the left side that you can climb up to and do a running jump to the nearby V-shaped slopes. Keep jumping back and forth as you swerve into the alcove on the side to find a lever which opens the exit door. Then run to the waterfall in the back. You need to use the slope on your right side to backflip and steer Lara onto the top. Touching the corner where the waterfall and the slope connect, face the slope and take one sidestep left and one step backwards, then hop back for the run up. Do a running jump with a midair flip, keeping the Jump button pressed to bounce off as soon as possible and then hold down the Right cursor key to steer Lara to the side. It might take a few tries, so best to save when you finally make it, right?

Now, walk towards the water in the back and notice the rocky slope in it. Stand behind it, on the left side, and do a running jump towards the far right tip of the slope. Immediately jump off and steer Lara to the left to land on the flat rock against the wall. Climb up the ladder and at the top let go and grab again to dangle at the same level as the floor line above. Shimmy right as far as Lara will go and climb up. Jump to the flat rock right ahead of you and use the slope on the side to backflip and grab a ladder on the mossy rocks above.

Jump to the flat dirty spot in the sandy hill to the side and gun down the mercenary in the hexagon crevice. Get in there to find a ladder, climb up and kill two mercenaries on a small pyramid-like structure. Now we have to get atop that waterfall, which requires another precise jump. From the tunnel entrance, stand at the highest point of the sandy mound, facing the waterfall at an awkward angle, and do a running jump steering left.

At the end of the water stream, stay close to the left wall and hop over the spike pit, timing your next jump off the slide to grab a far column. Hop over the columns to the left to find a lever in the corner, then jump back to find an open door to the side of the slope. This is a pixel-precise jump: you need to do a running jump off the highest tip of this column towards the door ledge, but the door jamb might (and will) make this a lot more difficult than it needs to be. Once you finally find that sweet spot and manage to grab the ledge, pull yourself up and cross the open blue door to finish this adventure.
