A TRIP TO THE SOUTH

Lara drops down into a lagoon during a steady rain. Wade out quickly before the piranha arrive (but they don't seem to want to bother you). Shoot the native and baby dinosaur and pull into the nearby niche for the SHOTGUN. Return to the water, look left and jump/swim to the wall. Pull out onto a jutting ledge, shoot a baby dinosaur in the otherwise empty passage ahead, turn around and jump to the higher ledge for shotgun ammo. Hop into the water, locate the nearby floor hole and swim down for harpoons. Exit the water and go up the bank to your left past the palm tree.

 

Jump into the water, swim to the ledge jutting from the wall and pull out. Take a running jump to the next ledge, pick up the shotgun ammo and return to the shore. Enter the passage in the stone wall where the native came from, jump over the floor hole and pull up higher. Ignore for now the opening to your right and follow the passage to a ledge overlooking an enclosed lake.

 

Hop down left and safety drop to the ledge below. Hop down into the opening in the wall, face left and take a curved running jump to grab the opening in the next wall. Pull up for SECRET #1 and flares. Jump into the water to draw out a crocodile and pull out onto a ledge around the corner from where you got the secret. Jump to the nearby block in the water, dispose of the croc and hop down into the wall opening to the right of the burning torch. That way you can grab the HARPOON GUN without having to worry about the spear trap in the side passage to your left.

 

Jump into the water and search the far corner of the lake for a small medipack. Swim into the narrow opening beneath the ledge with the burning torch to draw out another crocodile (we'll be exploring that area shortly). Retreat as you did before to deal with the threat from the ledge. Turn around to face an opening in the corner and jump to grab it. Pull up, run forward and vault up for a small medipack. Go back to the opening, jump up to grab the ceiling and monkey swing over the lake to an opening for SECRET #2 and the UZIS.  

 

Jump into the water and into that opening where you drew out the croc. Loop around left for shotgun ammo, swim back a short distance, up to your right and follow to a ceiling hole. Pull out into a dark room with a large medipack and the DESERT EAGLE. Push the wall button to open a nearby underwater gate, jump back into the water, turn right two times, keep straight (unless you wish to divert to your left for harpoons in a shallow hole) and turn left at the wall to find the opened gate. Swim inside to the far right corner and pick up WILMA'S HUT KEY on the green-tinted slab.

 

Swim back the way you came, pausing at the ceiling hole for air if necessary, and pull out onto the familiar ledge in the lake. Jump to the block and from there to the ledge with the burning torch. Enter the passage for harpoons and trigger the spear trap if you like by taking a step into the side passage. Return to the ledge and take a running jump to grab the ladder. Climb up to a higher ledge overlooking the lake and jump onto the nearby column. Continue with a jump a bit to your left onto a ledge about halfway down the far rock wall. Jump up to grab the crack and shimmy right until you can pull up.

 

Turn left and take a running jump onto the higher block. Pull up higher and turn right into the passage. Follow around past a closed gate and turn left into the next opening (the one you bypassed earlier when coming from the other direction). You hear a burst of warning music as you step out into the next area. Shoot the native advancing from your right and grab the uzi ammo in the niche to the left of the hut. Some of the natives you'll encounter during this level have blowguns that can poison you from afar, so try to kill them as quickly as you can. Use Wilma's Hut Key to open the trap door and hop down.

 

Pull up inside the hut and turn the wheel near the unattended fire. An outside gate opens, so exit the hut and shoot two natives. Jump into the lake and locate the floor hole. Swim down and follow to an underwater lever that opens a trap door that was blocking a ladder. Return to the lake, swim toward the waterfall and pull out onto the ledge to its right. You can't reach the ladder from here, so turn around and take a running jump to the next ledge. Turn back and jump to grab the ladder. Climb up, and as you pull up Lara looks to her left at a hut in the distance.

 

Hop up to the waterfall and drop down the other side. Reverse roll, hop down the steps for SECRET #3, grab the large medipack, uzi ammo and desert eagle ammo and return. Jump into the lake, swim to the wall opposite the hut where Lara was looking, and pull out onto the corner ledge. Climb the rock steps to find a small medipack to your right and jump back into the water. Wade out onto the bank, go to the far right corner and find a ramp leading down to an opening where the trap door opened. Climb down the ladder there and grab the small medipack in the corner before approaching the hazards in the next room. The gate closes behind you after you enter.

 

Walk out onto the bridge, stop in front of the flame tile and look down right. Jump down to the safe tile in the corner, turn around, jump to the next safe tile and push the button in the bridge support to open a gate. Hop to your right to the adjacent safe tile, jump up to grab the bridge and shimmy right past the flame tile. Pull up, turn right and time your way past the flame blowers and the opened gate. Pick up the small medipack, loop around left and run off the edge. Crawl under the dart trap and push the wall button to open another gate.

 

Go back, pull up onto the bridge and see the opened gate to your left. Stay left and take a few steps inside to trigger a blade trap, then make your way past it. Hop over the greenery-covered hole in the corner, stand a step back from the next hole, jump to grab the far edge and pull up. Crawl under the dart trap and into the second alcove on your right to find a button that opens the floor trap door at the end of the passage. Get past the flame blower, climb down the ladder, turn left and take a tricky jump around the corner over a flame blower onto a safe tile that appears to be otherwise. Go around to find the SERPENT STONE.

 

You would think that the wall button should open the trap door at the top of the nearby ladder, but it actually turns off a flame tile near the other ladder around the corner. But first, walk away from the ladder and hop up right to find shotgun ammo. Hop back to the ladder, go around the corner past the first ladder and enter the crawl space past the now-safe tile. Follow to a wall button that extinguishes a flame tile near the second ladder. Return there, push the button and the trap door still doesn't open. However, flames have been turned off around the corner opposite the second ladder, so go there and push the wall button to open (finally) that trap door.

 

Climb up near the top and back flip into a familiar passage as the trap door closes back up. Go up the nearby ramp that leads to the opening with two tall columns in a lake. Jump onto the column on your right and from there into the wall niche to your right. Look down to see the gate you opened much earlier when you turned the wheel. Jump down to the ledge and enter the passage. Follow around to an underground area and shoot two baby dinosaurs.

 

Splash through the shallow water ahead, loop around right and pick up the uzi ammo. On the other side of the water is a crawl space, so enter and come to a higher crawl space. Pull inside and drop down the other side. Take a running jump and grab over the gap, pull up as a swarm of bats flies overhead and follow to an outdoor area. Shoot a raptor and pull up into a wall opening just to the left of the entrance. Turn around, jump to grab the higher tree limb and pull up for desert eagle ammo. Safety drop to the ground and find a ledge with another opening in the opposite wall. Go to the end of the passage, turn around and jump to grab a higher ledge. Pull up for SECRET #4 and grab the large medipack.

 

Return to the jungle floor and continue toward a more open area that's a disguised quicksand trap, and Lara's attention will be drawn to a closed gate on her left just before she reaches the quicksand. Find shotgun ammo in a niche opposite the closed gate, then walk back toward the closed gate and note the crack in the wall. Take a running jump over the quicksand to grab the crack (if you miss, just jump up to grab the crack), and shimmy right until you can pull up through the greenery into a hidden opening. Drop down to a lower passage and follow to a button that opens a door at the end of a bridge.

 

Return to the opening and take a running jump back to raptor valley. Pull up onto a block not far down from the niche where you found the shotgun ammo, pull up higher right onto a ledge, turn around and jump to grab the sloped pillar. Pull up, slide down the other side and jump to grab the bridge abutment. Pull up, run across the bridge past an opened gate and engage a native as the gate swings shut behind you. Pick up the desert eagle ammo at the intersection and go around either side to interrupt a trio of natives having a business meeting. Give them the business and explore this upper room for shotgun ammo, flares and a small medipack.

 

Find the corner ladder and climb up to a ledge. Go to the other end, jumping a gap, and jump up to grab the monkey bars. Monkey swing toward the other side of the room and drop down onto a platform. Jump to grab the ledge along the far wall, pull up to shoot a native and follow to a new room, shooting two more natives along the way. Grab desert eagle ammo on the tree limb and jump back to the ledge. Run clockwise around the perimeter to draw out a raptor and deal with it. Then jump toward the opening to the left of the waterfall and pull up into the crawl space.

 

Follow to SECRET #5, pick up the large medipack and desert eagle ammo and crawl back the way you came. Locate a nearby ladder and climb down to the ground. Go straight across the room to find a large medipack, attracting two natives when you pick it up. Turn the nearby wheel, return to the ladder and climb up to the ledge. Turn left and run counterclockwise along the ledge until you reach the opened gate next to the waterfall. Go down the steps toward a closed gate, turn left and encounter a native around the corner.

 

Continue toward another closed gate, turn right and find a ladder at the end of the passage. Climb down and safety drop from either side onto the safe gray flooring below. Locate the shotgun ammo and climb back up to the ladder platform. Drop down opposite the ladder, reverse roll and push the button to turn off flames above you and also to trigger the spike wall. Back flip and hop back into the alcove until the spike wall passes by. Loop around left, climb the nearby ladder and shoot two waiting natives. Jump over the gap where the flames have been extinguished and save your game before pushing the button in the alcove.

 

Back flip immediately after pushing the button to evade the boulder that drops down from above. Climb back up the ladder, then climb the next ladder to a previous passage. The gate to your right is still closed, so turn left and go up the steps to find that the next gate to your left is now open. Turn around and slide down the ramp backwards. Grab the edge, pull up and take a rolling back flip over a fire tile to grab a safe block as bats fly by overhead. Pull up, but don't jump to the next block as flames will erupt when you land on it. Instead, take a running jump to grab the far block, pull up and turn back to your left.

 

Take a standing jump into the alcove beyond the waterfall and pull up into a crawl space. Drop down the other side for SECRET #6 and pick up the GRENADE LAUNCHER. Go back to the alcove, take a running jump over the flaming block and grab the opposite opening. Pull up and follow around to a button. Push it, go back and jump to your right onto the safe block. Turn right, hop the gap where the flames have gone out and push the alcove button to open a trap door. Also, the flaming block is now safe and the slope ahead has turned to steps, so make your way back up to the room with the large tree, shooting a native along the way.

 

Turn left at the wall and continue up the steps to the room with the waterfalls, where you'll see the opened trap door down below. Safety drop to the floor and through the trap door hole into some water. Locate and pull the underwater lever in a corner and pull out onto a gray ledge adjacent to one of the columns. Push the button on the column to open the gate at the other ledge. Enter and jump over the flaming tiles. They all go out when you jump over the last one. Pick up the second SERPENT STONE and the gate ahead opens to an area you visited earlier.

 

Shoot a native and a raptor, use the block and ledge and slope against the far wall to reach the bridge as you did before, but instead of crossing the bridge take a running jump from the other side of the bridge abutment down to a ledge near the quicksand pit. Hop down and pick up the MP5 while a native materializes right behind you. Jump back to the bridge, safety drop to the ground and exit raptor valley via the opening opposite the quicksand pit.

 

Go down the ramp, jumping over the gap, and pull up left into the crawl space.  Drop down the other side, go through the next crawl space, turn right and follow the passage around to the ledge overlooking the outdoor lake. Turn left, and from that end of the ledge take a running jump up into the niche in the wall. Jump to the nearest column, turn left and jump toward the opening in the wall. Enter the passage and take the second left toward the beach with Wilma's hut, shooting the raptor that greets you.

 

Turn left and find a niche with shotgun ammo near the corner ramp leading downward (in case you missed it earlier). Follow the wall toward the lake and pull up into the flat opening near the water's edge. Use the two Serpent Stones to open the gate and enter a maze-like area as the gate closes behind you. Turn left at the wall for shotgun ammo, go back the other way and slide down the slope to meet another raptor. Note the corner ledges in the pool and jump into the pool if you like to discover quickly that these piranha are both aggressive and deadly. However, you can avoid them completely by taking a running jump over the water to the corner ledge.

 

Run forward, loop around right in front of the closed gate and push the button to kill the piranha. Jump back into the water and pull the underwater lever. Pull out on the entrance side of the pool and climb the nearby ladder. Turn around and jump to grab the upper ledge. When you pull up two boulders are triggered, so hop back and grab the edge until they come to rest against the wall. Pull back up, turn right and pull up onto the skull block. Turn around and jump to grab the opening, pull up in front of a closed gate and run forward to end the level.
