THE MYSTERY OF THE OUTPOST

Begin by sliding down into a large facility. Note the closed trapdoor and run forward, staying right until you come to a two-tiered prison ward where two guys on your right are just bustin' to get out. Continue to the far wall and go down the ramp to engage a guard. Pick up his small medipack, go down a little further for the shotgun ammo you can see in the corner next to a closed door, then go back up a bit and pull up into a crawl space you'll find in the wall. Drop down the other side for the DESERT EAGLE and SECRET #1.

 

Return to the ramp, go all the way down to the lower tier and shoot another guard for his desert eagle ammo. Run toward the tunnel, pause for uzi ammo in the dark left corner and follow the tunnel to the prisoners' mess hall. Don't shoot the friendly inmates, as they'll take care of the two guards for you. One guard drops a large medipack, the other the CONTROL CENTER PASS. Search the table tops for uzi ammo and a small medipack, then push the button in the panel in the far left corner to open a trap door in the ceiling shaft above you. Climb up into the window, jump to grab the ladder and climb up past the opened trap door.

 

Pull up to where you started the level and return to the two-tiered prison ward. The cells on the right are now open with their former occupants having escaped, so enter both to find flares and a large medipack. Go down the ramp again, but this time turn left into the passage and open the door at the other end with your Control Center Pass. Enter the next room, shoot a guard and go across to the far right corner for shotgun ammo. Find the nearby stairs and go around clockwise to the upper level and shoot another guard. By this time a third guard has probably appeared downstairs, and if he isn't dealt with by a friendly inmate go down and take him out yourself for his HARPOON GUN.

 

Go back up the stairs to a control area where you'll find a wall switch that opens a trap door. Go downstairs, exit this room and go up the ramp to the prison ward. The cells on the left side are now open, so you can check them out to find they're both empty. Continue through the wide passage in the far wall and turn right to proceed to a garage where the surviving inmates are waiting. You'll find shotgun ammo next to the truck. Go into the side passage and up the ramp to an outdoor area.

 

Shoot a guard for his SHOTGUN and wait for the approaching vulture. Find the shotgun ammo near the corner where you can see thin red lasers, then search the middle part of this area for the opened trap door. Drop down to a research lab and go through the opening near the alien corpse after grabbing the uzi ammo. Continue into the next room over a closed trap door and go through the passage ahead and to your left to open an automatic door (providing a shortcut for later). Reverse roll and return to the former room. Pull up into the window for flares and shotgun ammo, return to the research lab, vault up onto the higher floor and turn left into an outdoor area.

 

Go right to the edge, try to target the guard and dog roaming about on the desert floor below, but in any event jump from the left corner into the window opening and from there to the rocky ledge. The inmates will try to kill two guards off in the distance but will likely lose, forcing you to finish the job yourself. Find a hard-to-see crack in the wall, stand right and use the action and up arrow keys to jump up and grab it. Shimmy left to an opening and pull up for SECRET #2. Hop down into the enclosed courtyard for 2 x MP5 clips at the far corners, pull out there and take a running jump down to a ledge between the wall and the building for the MP5.

 

Safety drop from either side of the ledge and return to the corner to repeat the jumps to the window opening and the rocky ledge. There may be a stray guard lurking down below you need to shoot and kill. Proceed up the hill through the opening near the wall and loop around left past a warning sign for the UZIS and uzi ammo. There's a snake lurking in the nearby bush, so dispose of it. Go back along the upper ledge line to the building ahead and shoot a guard. Grab the health crystal and note the block with the covered button. Get on the outer ledge at that corner for a small medipack and uzi ammo, safety drop to a ledge next to a closed door and take a running jump toward the warning sign you saw earlier.

 

Turn left, mind the barbed wire down below and take a running jump to grab the jutting block. Pull up and jump forward a bit to your right for a strange humming noise. Hop down into the passage and go around to find a wall switch that triggers a cut scene with pulsating lights. Go back to the front end of the passage and hop up right. Turn around and hop up left to higher ground. Jump across the gap to a triangular ledge and save your game. Take a running jump toward the red warning sign, jump off the slope with a left curve and land on the ledge over the health crystal that you can see down below. Pick up the GRENADE LAUNCHER at your feet for SECRET #3.

 

Drop down, collect the health crystal and shoot the approaching dog and guard. Collect the guard's uzi ammo and search the grounds for flares and a small medipack as you make your way to the far end of the area. Turn left into the green structure and follow up a slight ramp and around the corners until you reach a door that opens upon your approach. Loop around right through the shortcut door you opened earlier, continue into the passage over the closed trap door and turn left in the research lab into the outdoor area. Use the window opening as you've done twice already to reach the rocky ledge. This time go across to the remote building where an inert guard is likely standing.

 

Grab the small medipack at the near end of the green walkway, then go around the building clockwise to the other end and surprise the guard whose back is turned toward you. Continue to the far left corner of the compound where you see a fence, shoot two snakes hiding in the bushes and pick up the DEPOT PASS you probably noticed earlier from the other side. Go back around the building and find a gray slab at a corner of the rock wall. Pick up the nearby shotgun ammo and pull down the wall switch to open the exit gates beside you (for later). Reverse roll and run partway up the ramp, shoot a guard and enter the opening to your right in the rock wall.

 

You'll come to what appears to be a dead end, but there's a floor hole in the far corner. Drop down and run through a smaller room with two rows of gadgetry. Shoot the guard in the next area and run straight forward at the crossing into a larger room with more rows of gadgetry and an aquarium overhead. Run to the back of the room, turn around to find a button on one of the rows and push it to open a door near a guard and set off an alarm. Run back the other way, turn left just beyond the aquarium and follow to an opening on your left. Go there and turn left at the wall. A door opens ahead, so shoot two baby dinosaurs in the room ahead, reverse roll and go down the hall in the other direction.

 

Three doors ahead open simultaneously and out pour two raptors and four guards (two of whom are of the friendly variety, so to avoid targeting them you may wish to run away and let the malevolent enemies chase you). Pick up the BLUE KEY dropped by one of the guards and go to the room at the far end of the hall for desert eagle ammo. Exit to the hallway, go into the room on the left and pull down the wall switch for a cut scene of the hallway. Go across into the opposite room for more desert eagle ammo and return to the hallway you saw in the cut scene, where one of the friendly guards may be waiting. Approach the large double doors and they'll open automatically to release a hostile guard.

 

Go across the courtyard to the gates you opened with the corner wall switch earlier. Turn right to attract two more guards. The friendly guards didn't come to my aid, so deal with them yourself. One of them drops shotgun ammo. Continue to that green structure and attract another guard where the door opened. Enter the small room for uzi ammo and desert eagle ammo, push the wall button to open doors not far away and listen for the sound of distant exchanges of gunfire. Go up the ramp and follow to the garage, run across right to the far wall and use the Depot Pass to open the door.

 

Go on in, shoot a guard and go where he came from for shotgun ammo. Search the stacked crates for a large medipack and the YELLOW KEY. Exit to the garage and turn left to go down the hallway. Run straight across to where you began the level and safety drop down through the open trap door into the mess hall. Shoot two guards down there and go across through the small opening and up the steps where doors have opened. Pull down the wall switch inside to lift the cover from the outdoor button you noted earlier. Hop into the adjacent pool for uzi ammo and exit via the side door which has also opened.

 

Continue to a door that opens upon your approach, turn left and go up the ramp toward the garage, but this time loop around right into the doorway and into the passage over the closed trap door. Follow to the research lab and turn left to reach the outdoor ledges. Yes, use the window opening once again to get across to the rock ledge, run up to the red warning sign and follow the upper ledge around to the roof of the building. Shoot the waiting guard and push the button to open a door on the side of this building.

 

Go to your left, safety drop to the ledge below, shoot a guard and enter the building via the opened door. Grab the desert eagle ammo in the alcove to your right and use the Blue Key and Yellow Key to open the door between the receptacles. Go inside and walk around the circular hallway until you step on a trap door that drops you to the room below. Shoot the guard, take his small medipack and go around the corner to find a wall button that silently opens a door around the other corner. Go there to find a small room occupied by a guard.

 

Pick up his uzi ammo and the nearby desert eagle ammo and pull down the corner wall switch to open the floor trap door you ran by in the hallway a few moments ago. Go there and safety drop to a still lower hallway. Go around and one of the doors opens to release a dog. Enter for a large medipack and exit to find a dark corner hole. Drop down, light a flare and come to a corridor guarded by two lasers. Wait for them to move away from you, hop down and follow them, jump over the lower one on its way back to you and look for an opening up to your right. Side flip into it and pull down the wall switch to raise some guided missiles outdoors.

 

Wait for the lasers to pass by to your right, hop down and run to the other end. Side flip left into the upper passage and pull out past the opened trap door. The nearby door is open now, so go inside and push the wall button to open the door at the end of the passage. An active sentry gun and a guard are both firing at you, so run forward and loop around left up the ramp where the sentry gun can't reach you. You can shoot at the guard from here, and when he died the sentry gun became dormant in my game, enabling me to go down and take the large medipack from his corpse.

 

Go all the way up the ramp and follow the green ramp to the end. Drop down into a familiar area, shoot the dog and the guard and go to the pathway in the green structure. The door at the first corner is now open, so go straight ahead and shoot another guard as you come to a room that you entered earlier from the other side. There's nothing more to do here, so go back the way you came and continue all the way up the ramp. Loop around left through the garage and up the ramp to engage two more guards and a sentry gun that activates if you don't jump over the green lasers.

 

At the top of the ramp, turn right and go to the raised missiles. There's now an accessible gap near the corner, so safety drop into a restricted area, shoot two hostile guards (the other two are friendly) and run down the narrow valley beyond the pool to end the level. Your stats show that you found 3 of 6 secrets, but three are all that's there.
