STREETS OF ROME: REVISED

After the entertaining film clip and opening flyby, note that the HOTEL ROOM KEY and MERCURY STONE are already in your inventory, run past the motorbike into the opening on your left (or straight ahead into the next room) for shotgun ammo and note the closed gate at the bottom of the steps. Go back to where you found the shotgun ammo, look up S and jump up to shoot the grate inside the opening. Pull up into the opening, crawl around to face another grate and get up on one knee to shoot it. Flip out at the other end into what appears to be a storage area and use the crate on the fork lift to pull up onto a ledge.

 

Run forward, hop into the alcove and pull down the wall switch to open a door directly below. Drop down, go on through and get on the motorbike. Turn it around, drive it into the building and keep roughly straight until you reach another W opening. Turn left onto the ledge, go between some crates and drive up the ramp to an area you couldn't access on foot. Dismount, pull up onto one crate for a large medipack and hop into the SW corner for a GOLDEN ROSE and SECRET #1.

 

You seem to be done with the motorbike, surprisingly enough, but if you like you can drive it back down the ramp and park it somewhere while you explore the rest of this area. Go down N to a lower room and circle around the crates for flares, then return through the E opening you drove through for shotgun ammo on a short crate. Continue to the fork lift and use the crate to pull back up onto the ledge. This time, loop around left, jump the gap and go through the W opening into a tall room with scaffolding. Climb the shorter scaffold and take a running jump to grab the taller scaffold. Pull up and stand jump slightly SW to grab the catwalk.

 

Pull up and go to the W end. Shoot the grate, enter the crawl space and follow around to the other end. Flip out the other side into a lower passage and pull down the wall switch at the E end to open the door for a short cut to the previous room. Follow the passage and you'll come to a WORKER'S NOTEPAD that tells you there's a problem with another door in the area. Go to the nearby wall switch and save your game, because it's timed. Pull the switch, side flip left onto the ledge and back flip onto another ledge, hop back, side flip left onto a slope, jump to another slope, jump to a ledge, side flip right and run past the timed door ahead before it shuts. 

 

Pull up E to a fixed camera, jump up to grab the underside of the catwalk and monkey swing to the E wall. Drop near a ladder and climb up until you can shift right around the corner and drop into an alcove. Shoot the grate, enter the crawl space, shoot another grate and flip out onto a balcony. Go through the passage, turn right down some steps and encounter your first enemies, a couple of rats. Continue down a short flight of steps for a small medipack and go to the crates stacked against the wall. Get onto the highest one and take a running jump E to grab the ledge surrounding a pool.

 

Pull up and jump into the water. Swim through the S opening and stay left until you can continue S. Loop around right to find a floor hole, swim down and bear left when you emerge from the alcove. You'll come to an underwater lever, but if you feel you've made good time you can swim past it until you come to a GOLDEN ROSE for SECRET #2 (but you can always come back later to claim it, which may be the better part of valor). In either event, pull the underwater lever to open a gate behind you, flip turn and turn left into a room where foreboding music starts playing. Pull the underwater lever in the S wall to open a trap door directly below you and swim through to get some much-needed air.

 

Pull out W, jump up to grab the S slope, shimmy left to the corner, pull up and back flip onto a block. Hop into the adjacent ladder and climb the ladder to an enclosed room with a floor lever that opens a trap door in the pool beside you. Get back down to the water, swim into the pool and surface at the opened trap door. Pull out onto the grated covering, pull W out of the pool and face two pushpieces. Pull the SW one away from the corner and pull down the revealed wall switch to lower a rope over the pool. Pull the other one two times and get up on it. Hang from the E side, pull up and reverse roll to gain a little extra distance and take a running jump to grab the rope.

 

Swing forward and jump off to land in front of the E opening. Run forward into the next room, but before using the tightrope drop down and run across into the E storage room. Inside are three pushpieces. Go to the one in the back right corner and push it three times into an alcove, revealing a room with flares and an empty capinet. Shoot the grate up in the corner and pull inside for a GOLDEN ROSE and SECRET #3. Return to the storage room, push the other corner piece into an alcove for revolver ammo (a stingy two rounds) and go to the third pushpiece against the E wall.

 

Push it into the center of the next room, open the S double doors and step out onto a stage. After the brief flyby, climb the seats to the E wall, jump left to the N balcony, go around and hop SW onto the adjoining balcony for another GOLDEN ROSE for SECRET #4. Take a running jump back to the first balcony, hop to the seats and go over to the S side. Jump from one balcony to the other for shotgun ammo, get down to the stage and return to the room with the pushpiece. Exit W and S, climb the crates to the higher ledge and use the tightrope to get across N to an upper storage room.

 

The pushpiece on your right hides the REVOLVER which contains a paltry single round. The other pushpiece is a red herring, so continue down the ramp, follow the passage to a wall switch that opens the door beside you to a familiar area and safety drop to the floor. Exit E to the alley, turn left and then right over a block to a fountain area where you'll be met by a dog. Note the closed gate requiring a key and go through the S alley to find a reach-in switch that lifts a different gate. Before leaving, go into the short E alley to find a large medipack behind the planted tree.

 

Exit W, hop over the block and turn right into the N opening to find the opened gate. Go down and use the reach-in switch to raise a block behind you and release a swarm of bats. Go back, get on the block and jump S to the ledge for a small medipack. Hop NE onto the adjacent balcony and shoot out the window. Go up the steps into a sitting area, shoot another window and step out onto a veranda. Shoot more windows in the building across the way and jump S over the railing through one of them. 

 

Since you're in a trigger-happy mood, there are two more windows in the next room you can shoot. Pick up the small medipack in the S one, drop to the lower roof and to a small courtyard. Open the S double doors and a baddy will come from around the corner ahead. Go inside and climb onto the crate for the GOLDEN KEY. Exit to the courtyard and go down the E alley past a closed gate to find a wall switch that opens the gate you just passed. Don't go through yet, however. Return to the courtyard, climb up N through the window you shot out, go to the E window (shoot it if you haven't already done so) and take a running jump SE onto a lower ledge.

 

Go around and jump up N to a window ledge, shoot the glass, turn around and take a running jump S to grab a higher ledge. Pull up and jump over the railing ahead to find a GOLDEN ROSE on the balcony for SECRET #5. Get back to the double window you shot out, enter the building and go up the steps through the E opening ahead. Follow the passage and up the steps to a dead end and a small medipack. Go back the way you came, loop around right up some steps to a balcony and grab the LASER SIGHT. Side flip over the railing onto the cafe awning for flares and drop down to the fountain square to shoot a dog.

 

Use the Golden Key to open the N gate. Follow the passage into a courtyard and meet an ambush from Larson who's perched up to your left and fires at you while taunting you in his redneck drawl.  Quickly loop left through the courtyard and into the W passage. Turn left and go downstairs to a small room for a large medipack. Go back and up the other stairs to the top floor where Larson is waiting on the other side of the tightrope. Draw your pistols in a threatening manner and he'll run away like a rabbit.

 

Go across the room on the tightrope and find yourself on the other side of a closed gate. Hop over the railing and pull down the wall switch to lift the gate for a shortcut back to the fountain square. For now, head N and turn left at the wall (you may attract a baddy who'll starting firing from behind you). Continue through the opening and turn right into the N passage to shoot a dog that charges out from an opening to your left. Go where the dog came from, shoot the padlock to open the gate and enter carefully to activate three sets of teeth doors in the passage. Get past them and take the GARDEN SYMBOL from the plinth.

 

Negotiate your way back the way you came, and before exiting past the opened gate turn left and pull up into the crawl space in the N wall. Crawl around for a GOLDEN ROSE and SECRET #6, get back down and exit E to the passage. Turn right, then left alongside the wall. If the baddy didn't attack earlier, he'll do so now as you approach the S opening past the closed gates on your left. Go down the alley and grab the flares around the corner, return to deal with a second baddy and turn right at the wall. Go through the NE opening to a new square and note the receptacles on either side of the gated fence. Only one of them is empty, however, so place the Garden Symbol to open the gates you passed by earlier.

 

Go around to the opened gates to trigger a flyby featuring a conversation between Pierre and Larson. Enter the courtyard, turn left to get on the raised slab and pull up S onto the wall for a small medipack. Stand jump N onto the temple roof for flares and safety drop behind the temple for uzi ammo. Go through the NW opening to trigger a brief flyby featuring the temple bell. Go up the ramp, shoot the waiting baddy and go up the steps on either side and grab the revolver ammo on the entrance ledge.

 

Go to the E end, stand jump onto the roof, go S and take a running jump onto the wall separating two courtyards. Jump SE to the opposite roof and follow it around to a balcony where you'll find a GOLDEN ROSE in the far corner (stoop to pick it up) for SECRET #7. Go back, hop S over the railing and jump the gap into the next building. Take the UZIS from the plinth, jump back to the roof and return to the high N wall separating the two courtyards. Take a running jump NE onto the sloped roof, jump down to the entrance ledge and combine the revolver and the laser sight. Look up N over the closed door and shoot the bell to open the W door to your left.

 

Go there, jump into the opening and jump the gap into the next W opening. Use the reach-in switch to open the temple door and note the two closed doors on either side of this room. Return to the temple, enter N and proceed through the NW opening. Go down the ramp to trigger a boulder and hop up left into the alcove as it rumbles by. Push the floor lever to open the NE door in the previous room and release a fire wraith. Quickly exit the temple S, get down to the courtyard and run down the SW ramp to the outer courtyard, loop around left into the N opening and jump into the pool to douse the pursuing wraith.

 

Having removed that distraction, return to the temple interior and go through the opened NE doorway. Follow down and up some steps, and be careful of the swinging battering ram as you approach the top. With your left shoulder against the wall, walk N and reverse roll as the ram swings backward to grab the edge. Shimmy right along the crack and around the corner, pull into the crawl space for the SHOTGUN and safety drop to the floor of the entrance room. Go back up the same winding staircase, but this time stand with your right shoulder against the wall as you face the swinging battering ram. Time a reverse roll and grab, shimmy left along the crack and pull up into the SE opening.

 

Go around the corner, shoot a baddy and continue to a spike-trapped corridor. Stand in front of the spikes, and just after they spring up run forward and hop up left into the window alcove. Again, wait for the spikes to spring up, run off NW into the passage and jump before the spikes return. Go around the corner but stop before you reach the alcove on your left. Jump over the spike tile and take a TORCH from the plinth. Turn around, time a run past the activated spikes and get past the next spike field in the same manner as before. Follow to the opening where you pulled up, toss the torch down to the room below and drop down after it to engage two baddies.

 

Retrieve the torch, exit S and jump up into that W opening again. Drop the torch to the steps below, hop over the gap and find that the doors in the room with the reach-in switch are now open. A GOLDEN ROSE is in the N alcove for SECRET #8. You can use the reach-in switch a second time, although whether it's necessary to do so is not made clear. Exit this room, drop down to the top step for a small medipack, pick up the torch and go down the steps to attract the attention of a baddy in the lower passage. Open the double doors near the railing and enter a wine cellar. Go around right, shoot the padlock to open the gate and prepare to deal with a horde of rats.

 

Retrieve the torch and bring it to the flame beyond the opened gate. Light the torch by standing just outside the grill, exit the wine cellar and go down the S passage where the baddy came from. Make your way back to the temple via the following route: turn left into the alley, turn left again at the opened gates into the courtyard, continue through the NW opening and up the ramp, get past the railing on either side and light the wall torch in the central alcove to open the trap door at your feet.

 

Abandon the torch and draw a weapon as you drop down to engage a Roman warrior. When you vanquish him he'll drop the GATE KEY, so pick it up and search the perimeter of the room for a small medipack, shotgun ammo and revolver ammo, all of which would have come in handy during the battle. Go to the N wall and use the Gate Key to open the door over your head. Hop inside, take the SATURN SYMBOL from the plinth and the door ahead opens. Go there, shoot the wooden barrier and enter a room with crates and a grated floor.

 

Vault onto the lower crate and jump up to pull down the ceiling trap door. Step forward and pull up N into a passage. Slide down a couple of times, vault up onto the slab at the end and jump up to pull down another ceiling trap door. Turn around, jump up to grab the opening and pull up into a passage that leads to a new fountain square amidst the streets of Rome. Go to the double doors under the N hotel sign, open them and enter the deserted lobby. Go past the counter and up the steps to the mezzanine, find the keyhole and use the Hotel Room Key to open the N door. Go inside to trigger a closing cut scene.
