Note: This walkthrough [as
originally posted] is somewhat less detailed than the previous ones in the
following respects. Firstly, it does not map out every move, assuming a certain
basic ability on the part of the player. Secondly, it omits the mention of many
enemies, since they make themselves known on their own. Finally, and most
importantly, it does not point out every pickup, so the player needs to explore
on her/his own for these. Following the walkthrough word-for-word will result
in missing some items. What is included is solutions
to the major puzzles and the locations of all the secrets. So, the real intent
of the walkthrough is to help the player get "un-stuck" if need be
during the course of independently exploring the level.
IMPORTANT: Although you're carried to
Level 8 when you complete Level 7, you cannot reload from a savegame
from that point on. If you try to do so,
you're taken back to the beginning of Level 8 and not to the point of your
save. Therefore, it's vital that you
stop and proceed now with savegame.13 that's provided with the current
download. Someone reviewing these levels
has compared using someone else's savegame to wearing
someone else's old shoes. Nevertheless,
the provided samegame has all pickups and weaponry
accumulated during the previous levels, and the secret count is accurately
shown as 33. Most important, it allows
you to save normally.
Level 8: THE LOST TEMPLE OF SAQQARAH
Exit the hallway and [continue N to spook an assassin
now rather than later, if you wish].
Jump from the first column pedestal, past the toxic water to the SE.
Pull the lever that you see in the camera shot to raise an iron platform in the
water. Now you can make your way across the water to the other side. [Take a
running jump to the raised platform, which restores camera control. Turn right
and take a running jump and grab to the block on the east bank. Pull up, turn
to the left and take a running jump down to the platform at the north
shoreline. Take an angled running jump to the right to clear the bank, draw
weapons and shoot the croc that's
scurrying around nearby.] You may notice a door to open near the fountain, but
all useful ways inside are blocked for the moment. Also, take note of the
deeper corner of the fountain basin, as this will be important later. To the
west of the fountain is an alcove with a torch burning.
Look for the trap door in the
sand and raise it (it is darker than the surrounding ground). [It's behind the
second ornate pillar near the NW corner. If you light a flare, it's easily
seen. Open it facing south from the north edge.] Crawl through the tunnel. A dog will attack at a very inopportune moment.
[Before you reach the opening ahead and to your left, bring
Lara up to a crouch and draw weapons. That way you can shoot the dog without
suffering damage.] Pull the switch to hear a door open elsewhere. As you exit,
take very careful note of the odd graphic above the crawlspace. Make a savegame here so you can refer to it later. [It's a map to
the maze above the toxic pool you'll encounter shortly. But not to worry: This
walkthrough will lead you by the hand through the maze.] Exit the crawlspace
[and make a hairpin turn to the right].
Open the small door near the
fountain and follow the hallway to its end. [There's a tunnel off to the left,
and a door at the end that opens as you approach, but that's for later.] To the
right is a ladder. If you look left and up, you will find the way to SECRET #34. [Hug the south wall opposite the ladder
and jump up to grab the jump switch. A door opens to reveal an alcove to your
left, opposite the grate. Get a large medpak, some flares
and some shotgun ammo.] After getting
the secret, climb the ladder and pull the switch at the end of the passage. [But
first, kill the dog that greets you.] A
trapdoor opens somewhere. Head back to the hallway below. Jump up to the
opening, a little way down and to your left, and climb the stairs. Mind the
spike trap [at the top. Take a standing jump and grab over it.]
Drop down through the open trap
door and proceed to the right, [killing the dog on the way]. A block will
recede in front of you to reveal a ladder. Climb up and notice the monkey bars
around the corner to your left. For now, though, head east, [climb the short
wall, pull up and find yourself] among a swarm of locusts.
[Go to the far balcony near the SW corner] to find a jump switch. [Shoot one of
the vases for a small medpak.]
The way back is blocked, so make a jump into the deep part of the fountain below
(noted above). [It's scary, but step out onto the open spot next to the nearby
balcony, get up next to the pillar on your right, and simply take a standing
jump (or a swan dive, if you're feeling adventurous) to the pool below. You'll
land in the deep end and therefore won't splatter and die.]
Follow your course back to where
you just came from, [going through the open door near the fountain, pulling up
into the area to the right, jumping over the spike trap and climbing down to
the tunnel below,] but notice the open door and lever
in the passage before the ladder to the higher level. Push the lever and climb
back up [E, using the ladder revealed by the lowered block]. This time, head
south [jumping over the deep hole] and find the open double doors above the
fountain below.
Drop down [turn around, hop back]
and grab the edge. Shimmy left until you reach the ladder, then climb and move
around to the left until you can drop down on the terrace above. [Immediately
draw weapons and kill the giant flying bug.]
Look for the reach-in switch in the wall nearby and activate it to drop another
trapdoor. Proceed back the way you came, and head back [being mindful of the
ladder pit on the way] to where you jumped into the fountain before. Close by
is the newly opened trapdoor. Climb down and get into the crawlspace below.
Find the jump switch [dead ahead] on the opposite wall and pull it to open a
second set of double doors. Make your way back through the crawlspace and up
the ladder and to the open doors to the west [again jumping over the
treacherous ladder hole along the way].
Now you must refer to the map you
saved earlier to make your way through this booby-trapped maze (note: red lines
on the map mean death). [It might be a good idea to save your game at the entrance
before venturing forth. Just for fun, you might want to wander through the maze
at random and find out what happens when you step on a booby-trapped square.
For those who'd rather not navigate the maze by using the map, here's the
route: Step out onto the left square. Counting the beginning square, go ahead 2
and turn left. Go 2 and turn right. Go 5 and turn left. Go 1 and turn right. Go
2 and draw weapons to kill a dog. Turn
right and go 3 past two steaming pipes. Turn right and go 3. Turn left and go
3. Turn left and go 2. Turn right and go 1. Turn left and go
1 to the switch.] After pulling the switch at the end, make your way back by
the same route. [When you get back to the entrance, you can turn left just
before leaving the maze and go around the corner to kill another dog and grab some uzi ammo.]
You now have access to the monkey bars. [Hopping down from the maze, turn to
the left, jump over the ladder hole again and climb the stairs to your left.] Monkey swing across to a floor switch on the other side, [making a
dogleg to the left. When you reach the end of the monkey bars, release
and immediately grab the block below and pull up. Step forward and pull up to
the higher level where the switch is] and push it. A flyby shows a rope has
dropped nearby. To reach it, go back to where the locusts attacked and [the
trap door opened, and] head back down the ladder and crawlspace.
Use the rope to swing across to
the platform near the walls topped with obelisks. [A giant flying bug attacks before Lara even reaches the rope, so
quickly shift slightly to the left and jump to the platform so you can dispatch
the bug.] Look at the building ahead and notice the crawlspace opening in the
side (for now, you cannot access it because of the raised platform below). From
here, jump over to the opposite wall, then use the raised wooden platforms
above the lagoon to reach the rooftop opposite. [A swarm of locusts comes out to plague Lara.] Shoot both
vases to reveal the GOLDEN SERPENT on
the raised stone block. Retrieve the artifact [as soon as you do, another giant flying bug makes its appearance] and place
it in its nearby receptacle [at the south end]. Go through the newly opened
door and use the jump switch at the end of the path. A block has been raised
next to where you just placed the golden serpent. Climb up here, [turn left and
climb up to the next level, then turn to the left] and make the running jump
and grab across to the landing to the north. Pulling the switch [to your left]
lowers the platform below the crawlspace by the columned walls. Head back to
the near walkway with obelisks [you can take a standing jump from up here to
the nearest wooden platform below without sustaining significant damage] and
[using the platform that juts out, make a running] jump to grab the opening of
the crawlspace.
Inside, Lara reaches a place
where she can stand up. To the left is a route which is blocked now, but you
can return here later [for SECRET #38]. [Use the higher crawl space and]
continue on ahead until you reach the end. Then turn around and lower yourself
to the other side, where you'll slide down into] level 9.
NOTE: If you are
looking for a solution for part of this level not covered above, the rest of
the solution for this level is given after returning from level 9. Please see
below.
Level 9: IMHOTEP'S
CHALLENGE
Begin by turning around and
blasting that gate with your pistols. Go inside to find SECRET #35. [Pick up the large medpak and grenade gun ammo.] Outside again, you’ll need to slide backward
down the slope and grasp the edge. Shimmy as far as possible to either the left
or right. Climb up and do a back flip with a roll and grab the ladder. Climb
down. After killing a couple enemies [two dogs
and a skeleton], take note of the gray wooden
door in the SW corner. [Get the nearby flares
in the alcove after shooting the container.] Go through the crawlspace in the
NW corner to find a wooden mechanism. Lara must pull it about 8 times to raise
the gray door [near the SW corner], then rush back to get through the gray door
before it shuts again. [You may have to duck down and crawl under the lowering
door, or simply roll under it when you reach it.]
Inside, jump the ditch to reach a
switch. This opens the other door in the SW corner. Exit through the nearby
underground tunnel [kill the dog just
before you reach the ladder, listen for the sound of a trap door opening,]and enter the newly opened door.
SOLUTION TO THE ROOM
WITH 4 SWITCHES AND THE DEADLY TRENCH
[As you enter, turn right, kill the
skeleton and pick up the uzi ammo.] This area [bisected by a trench] has 4
switches, one in each of the corners. These switches do two things. First, they
open four gates in the hallway off the south wall of this room. Second, they
raise and lower two little bridges in the central trench of fires and spikes.
Begin by [ignoring for now the switch you'll find nearby and by] crossing the
trench to the south side. [Kill the bat and
the assassin. Pick up the small medpak he dropped
and] pull the switch in the SE corner to raise a bridge in the east part of the
trench. Cross this [kill the bat and dog upon arrival] and pull the switch in the NE
corner. Now, use the crowbar to open the nearby gate [behind you]. Inside, jump
to the opening above the east end of the trench and pull the switch there.
[Even with a flare it's almost impossible to tell there's an opening up there.
At the edge of the alcove, line up Lara with the second dark vertical band and
take a running jump toward it. Lara will magically land inside the tunnel.]
This opens the gate leading back to where you first entered the room. Go there
(mind the fire trap) and pull that switch now [in the SW corner of the room].
[The jump back from the tunnel is even trickier than the first one. Have Lara
stand in the front corner, facing to the right. Take one step back and angle
Lara slightly left to get her around the corner. Then take a standing jump to
land inside the open gate.] Finally, cross back over the trench and pull the
switch in the SW corner. The hallway [nearby in the south wall] is now
clear.
Climb the pole and back flip over
the spikes to the east. [Wait until the spikes come up, then
jump off with a roll so you can run forward to safety upon landing. Draw
weapons to take out the ninja.] Follow
this path, opening a set of doors, and shooting two wooden trunks along the
way. Drop down in the hole at the end of the corridor and slide to the bottom.
Push the doors open to find yourself back at the
beginning. Repeat this route, this time jumping over the spikes to the west at
the top of the pole. [Jump off with a roll as before and kill the dog.] Crawl over the barrier and find two wooden
trunks to shoot on the other side [one of which contains uzi ammo].
(Note: as you slide at the end, there is a fire trap on the side.) [Jump over
it, get the nearby shotgun ammo, and
push the doors open to leave.]
Push the lever in the SE corner
back up to make a bridge over the trench. Exit back north to the room with the
two ladders (where you started the level) and find the raised block in an
alcove on the south side. Pull the jump switch above to open the door in the
north wall. Make your way around the outside of the fire pit there [carefully
angled jumps will to the trick] and pull the switch on the far wall. Two blocks
have been lowered in the area high above, at the top of the ladders. [One of
the wooden trunks on the side ledges contains a small
medpak.]
Back in the beginning room, [kill
the harpy, then] climb the ladder on the
left (as you face them). Move Lara as far to the left as she will go. At the
top, climb over and begin sliding down the slope. Jump and veer Lara slightly
left and grasp the edge of the walkway. Pull up [turn left, run to the star
receptacle at the end] and use the monkey bars to swing across [to the south],
following them until Lara is in front of a crawl space [one block to the left
of the end, so make a dogleg before you get there and avoid the fire trap down
below in the corner]. Drop down and enter the crawl space and pull the switch
at the end. Exit the crawlspace. Stand Lara facing the wall under the
crawlspace and back flip onto the slope behind and grasp the edge. Shimmy all
the way left . Do a back flip with roll [swerving to
the right in mid-air] and grab the ladder. Climb to the bottom.
GOLDEN STAR #5
Look up toward where you entered
the level and you will see a new opening in the wall. To reach it, climb the
[left] ladder and do a back flip with roll to grasp the edge of the opening.
[Look for the torch on the wall to your left. When it's directly beside
you--there's a reddish horizontal crack to help guide you--that's the place to
make the back flip, roll and grab.] Inside, you’ll find SECRET #36 (a GOLDEN
STAR) hidden in an alcove off the fire pit. [Crawl down the tunnel
and lower yourself down the other side. Pick up the revolver
ammo at the far end. There's
a ladder leading down into into the fire pit, but
don't use it yet. Standing to your far left, back flip to the slope behind you
and jump off with a left curve to land inside the alcove with the secret. Use
the crowbar to pry the star loose.] Use the slopes to get to the secret and to
exit. [After claiming the precious star, turn to the right and face east. Take
a standing jump ahead to the slope. Keeping the jump key
depressed, jump back and forth over the facing slopes. Use the left
arrow key to get to the far side of the room. When you reach the other slope
opposite the ladder, allow Lara to slide down and grab the edge. Pull up and
take a rolling back flip to grab the ladder just above the deadly flames. Climb
the ladder and pull up to safety.]
Return to the main room [Safety
drop to the floor from the end of the crawl space -- Lara will suffer some
damage from the long fall --] and climb the ladder on the right this time. [Do the mirror image of the move described previously --
climb to the top, shift all the way to the right, pull up and slide down the
other side, and jump off with a sharp curve to the right.] Use the monkey bars
on this side, near the closed gate, to swing over and find another lever. [Turn
right at the end and keep going until you run out of monkey bars. Drop down
into the trench below and locate the switch nearby to your left. And watch out for the death tile at the other
end of the trench.] This opens the closed gate back by the beginning of this
monkey swing. Do the same as before to get back to the ladder. [But this time,
you back flip, slide down and grab, and shimmy a short distance to the right.
Pull up, take a rolling back flip and swerve to the left in mid-air to grab the
ladder.] Climb back up and make your way through the newly opened gate.
Next comes
a series of boulder traps, so make a savegame before
going on. Slide down the first slope and IMMEDIATELY run or jump to the tile
below with the black diamond. Without stopping, move Lara to the base of the
slope ahead and jump up. Immediately turn left, run and jump over the small
pit. [An easier way that seems to work is to trigger the first boulder as
described above. Then jump forward to trigger the second boulder, and hop back
now that the first boulder has already rolled by. The coast is now clear, so
the pressure's off.] Activate the reach in switch in front of you (you will
hear a door open nearby). The tile with the black diamond is now on fire and
the tile just next to it is also a fire trap. Jump to the slope to the left and
above the fire and slide back and grasp the edge. Now Lara can climb up and do
a back flip over both deadly tiles.
Jump over the boulder [back flip
from either wall and immediately turn around and get away from the edge before
the ninja pushes you into the pit, then
kill him] and head around the corner. After the small lava pit [get the flares and revolver
ammo from the alcove to the right first], stand facing the slope.
Reverse roll onto the slope and immediately jump back over the lava pit as a
boulder comes crashing down. Head back to the slope and up to the first step.
Back flip onto the step, immediately jump forward and run back down the slope,
curving to the left near the bottom and jumping once more over the lava pit. It
is now safe to follow the sloping hallway. At the end, use the monkey bars to
swing all the way forward and then to the left. [Don't take a flare with you.
You don't need it, and it'll prevent you from making the grab at the end.] Drop
and grasp the edge of the opening and climb in. [Kill the ninja and the dog.]
To open the gate, you need to
move the game pieces onto the squares with the corresponding colors. [First get
the red piece out of the way by moving it in front of the entrance to this
room. After you move the green piece into place, a lowered trap door behind you with a
death tile down below makes things a little more difficult with the red piece,
but nothing you can't manage.]
In the next room, head to the
alcove in the southern wall. [Jump over the trench and time a run past the
spikes. Don't let your momentum carry you into the central fire pit just past
the spikes.] Inside, on the left is an open trapdoor under a switch. To the
right is a white square. This is a timed sequence. Lara must step on the colored
square, then run to the other side and pull the lever before the trapdoor
reopens. Next head to the eastern alcove. Back Lara as
far up the slope as you can [you'll spook a couple of bats, so shoot them first], then back flip up the
slope and jump forward to grab an overhead switch. Finally
head to the northern alcove. [Kill the two dogs
that are patiently awaiting your arrival.]
Light a flare and look down to
see a lower landing to the right. Jump down to it. Look down below to see a
gate. First, turn around, drop off and grasp the edge of the landing. Use the
ladder to climb around to the left into a dark corner. Inside, jump and pull
the overhead switch. Use the ladder to climb back around to the front. Still
holding the ladder, do a back flip with roll to the ladder behind. Enter the
crawlspace and step on the colored tile. Now make your way back to where you
entered this room. [Crawl back out, lower yourself to the ladder, back flip
with a roll to grab the ladder behind you, and pull up to the top. Turn right
and pull up to the main floor level. Go back past the spike trap and jump over
the trench.] A raised block allows you to pull a switch and open the gate back
in the northern alcove. [Jump down to the first alcove, turn to face the
opposite corner and back up one step from the front edge. Take a standing jump
down to the open door, holding down the action key to glide in safely.]
Inside the gate, you must make
your way up a long sloping corridor where 2 boulders will fall. Lara can take
shelter in the alcoves along the sides to avoid the boulders. [Pick up the
flares in the next alcove before moving on.] When you reach the room at the
top, look around and find a passage leading to a gray game piece and a closed
door. [Three ninjas will try to gang up
on you, so be ready for them.] On the other side is a closed gray door. [As you
explore, you'll spook two bats and a skeleton, so take care of them. There are several
wooden trunks to shoot, four of which contain two stashes each of shotgun ammo and a small
medpak. One, unfortunately, releases a locust horde.]
Now, follow the passage [in the
south wall] leading out the other side of the main room. You will now be
standing above the room with the alcoves. [Kill the second skeleton that tries to sneak up on you from
behind.] Jump to the catwalk with the red puzzle piece [and pick up the revolver ammo].
Notice the color of light
emanating from each of the four alcoves on the level below. You must manipulate
the four colored game pieces to the colored tiles nearest the alcove with the
same color (south = blue, north = green, east = yellow, west = red). The gray
piece in the center is only there as an obstruction. [Since the blue piece is
right next to its home tile, go ahead and push it into place first. Then push
the gray piece down the south wing to get it out of the way, and place the
other three colored pieces.] Once all the pieces are in place, one of the doors
in the previous room opens (cut scene). Push the gray game piece there through
the door and position it in front of the giant hammer. [To get there, go back
down the east wing and take an angled running jump past the torch to the
opening to the main room. Run down the stairs and turn left to return to the
main room. Turn right and locate the passage with the gray piece and the open
door. Push it all the way forward and
once to the right.] Pick up the puzzle piece [the SCARAB
TALISMAN] after the hammer falls.
The receptacle for the puzzle
piece is on a column in the SE corner of the room outside. Placing it opens the
gray door nearby [and also alerts a harpy].
Head inside and collect your prize: the SILVER STAR.
Now Lara must make her way back
to the beginning of the level. The quickest way is to go back out to the
catwalks with the colored game pieces. Standing near the red piece, angle a
simple jump [to the left] while holding the action key down to land safely in
the alcove below. In the next room [don't forget to jump over that trench],
jump to the monkey bars and follow them all the way forward (don’t turn to the
right) until Lara falls off and lands back near the start of the level. Make
your way over to the receptacle near the closed gate and use the SILVER STAR to
open it. [Stand with your back to the west slope and back flip onto the higher
ledge. Turn around, then turn left and jump to the slope across the lava
stream. Allow Lara to slide down and grab the edge. Shimmy all the way to the
right, pull up and back flip to the walkway in front of the receptacle for the
Silver Star. Jump down to the opening to the left, using the action key so Lara
lands inside.] Follow the corridor inside and open the doors at the end to
arrive in a vast area with 4 glass-topped pyramids.
AREA WITH 4 PYRAMIDS
The first task here is to move
the four gray game pieces onto the tiles below the translucent blue spheres.
[Avoid the ramps next to the tiles, which will set Lara on fire.] This raises a
block along the west wall of this large room. From there, Lara can access a
jump switch which will open trapdoors inside all the pyramids, except the one
in the NE corner. Shoot the glass tip off one of the other three. [You may as
well shoot the nearest one in the SW corner.] In the north and south side of
the room, Lara can jump and climb to a place from which she can run and jump
into the top of the pyramids (save your game first). [Go up the stairs, pull up
to the next level, and turn around to locate an alcove above and to the left.
Take a standing jump and grab and pull up. Then take a running jump to land
inside the pyramid.] Inside, slide down two ramps and jump over the spikes to
grab the pole at the end of the second ramp.
Climb up and back flip to the
opening in the west wall. [If you line up Lara's backpack with the bottom edge
of the opening, and then turn around to make the back flip, you should land
safely inside.] Follow the passage [killing a dog
and a skeleton along the way] to overlook
a room with colored squares on the floor and a switch on the far wall. [There's
another dog hiding in the far passage
leading west.] Lara must carefully jump on the squares which are below ceiling
tiles that do not have a skull on them. [Take a standing jump straight ahead to
the pink square in the middle. Endure the swarm of locusts.
Angle to the left and take a standing jump to the gray square next to the wall.
Then turn to the right and take an curved running jump
to the gray square in the corner. Pull up from there to the ledge.] Pull the
lever [opening the door back where you killed the second dog just now] and make
your way back using the same tiles. [Going back, move to the east side of the
ledge and take a standing jump to the gray square next to the east wall, then a
standing jump to the central pink square you started from, then another
standing jump in the same direction to the gray square in the NW corner. Then
take an angled standing jump into the opening.] A fly-by scene shows the
artifact at the top of the structure in the center of the four pyramids is now
accessible. Exit via the long ladder to the west [but don't carry a flare with
you. Crawl through the space, turn around and quickly kill
the two harpies when you drop down to the
room below.]
Once outside, look for the new
jump switch in the NW corner of this big room [on the north face of the column
next to the NW pyramid]. This opens the trapdoor inside the NE pyramid. Jump
into this pyramid and be sure to angle the jump so Lara slides down backward.
Grasp the edge at the bottom. Drop and grasp the gap below and shimmy around to
the right for SECRET #37 [and some revolver, shotgun
and grenade gun ammo]. Now you will have to make your way out of
the pyramid as before. [If you can't make the jump to the slope so that Lara
slides forward, add a roll in mid-air to grab the pole. Back flip into the
opening, go through the passages until you reach the long ladder, and climb up.
Crawl through the space and lower Lara down the other side to drop down to the
pyramid room.]
Once back outside, use the
climbable surface on the large central tower to retrieve the DJOSER EFFIGY. [The easiest way to get there is
to turn right when you drop down to the raised block, run to the other side of
the enclosed hallway, pull up on the other side, drop down and take a hairpin
turn to the right as you follow the path and locate the climbable wall.] A cut
scene shows the exit opening back near the beginning of this level. Return
there and jump through the newly opened door. [Climb down the ladder and make a
clockwise circuit to the other side of the room, using the outer enclosed
hallway. Push the gray game piece out of your way so you can continue. When you
reach the slope in the east wall, take a standing jump forward to clear it and
return to the tunnel leading to the lava trench. Jump to the right slope and
allow Lara to slide backward. Grab the edge and shimmy nearly all the way to
the left. Pull up and make a back flip to the higher ledge behind you. Turn
around and face the exit door to the north. Take a running jump and grab to
land inside.] Make sure you collect the BLACK
BEETLE [you should now have four in your inventory, three having
been carried over from the seventh level] on the column just inside the door
before continuing to the end of the level.
THE LOST TEMPLE OF SAQQARAH
(revisited)
Go to the small structure with
the open roof in the northeast area. On the eastern side of this structure is a
grate which Lara can open with the crowbar. Inside,
find the switch on the wall of the window alcove to your immediate right.
Pulling it opens the door nearby, at the bottom of a short stairway (north of
this building). Go there next. [Exit this building, turn left, run down the
stairs and turn left, then turn right and enter a new area.]
Pull the first switch on the
south wall. Pull the switch on the west wall. Go through the center area to the
east side. Pull the switch there. Continue to the north and pull the last
switch. Return to the switch on the east wall and pull it back UP. Now, climb
the block in the center of the room and pull up to the area above. Get the GOLDEN KEY inside the sarcophagus. [Shooting the
east vase releases a giant flying bug;
shooting the west vase gets you some shotgun ammo.]
Return to the lower level (a cut scene shows where you will use the key). Pull
the east switch back DOWN and the north switch back UP to clear the way to exit
this room.
Outside, head over to the pool
directly to the south [not the green pool, but the clear one next to the
structure with the open roof]. Jump in and swim into the opening on the bottom.
Follow the passage and climb out at the other end. Near the closed door on the
right-hand side is a reach-in switch on the wall. This raises a platform in the
pool outside [and releases a couple of crocs].
Return to the pool and climb onto the raised metal platform. Jump to the
opening and use the GOLDEN KEY to open the door.
Inside, go to the right and down
the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, mount the climbable surface and shift
around all the way to the other side. Drop off and push the floor lever there,
raising a metal platform in the toxic pool. Shift back around to the stairs and
head to the other (north side) stairs. Jump to the platform. Turn and jump to
the landing near the second floor lever. Push the lever. From here, [Lara must angle
to the SE, standing near the vertex of the black diamond, and] make a running
jump up to the landing with the pedestal (the flame has been extinguished).
Jump down to the other side (near
the first floor lever). Jump to the newly raised metal platform in the water.
From here make a running jump and grab to the landing on the other (east) side.
Follow the corridor to the left (under the torches) [and deal with a ninja]. At the end, go right and climb the short
stairs. Light a flare and find the overhead wall switch [in the north wall, to
the left of a central pit]. This switch clears the toxic pool [and releases a fire wraith]. Head back to the pool and swim into
the opening on the bottom. At the other end of the water passage, climb out,
[kill a dog] and pull the wall switch.
Return to the pool and use the
raised metal platform to get back to the eastern side. [Climb out at the stairs
on the west side, turn around and take a standing jump and grab to the
platform, then a running jump and grab to the other side.] Go around to the
back and find the newly raised metal platform, allowing Lara to climb to the
higher level. In the room above, find the floor lever and push it. This opens
the trapdoor in the structure with the open roof outside. [There's a small medpak in the
sarcophagus. One vase is empty, and the other releases a horde of locusts.] Back downstairs, use the rope to swing
back over the [once again toxic] pool to the other side. [Face the rope
squarely and pull up onto the ramp. Slide down and jump off to grab the rope.
Turn Lara to the left and jump to that landing, so she can use the climbable
surface to get back to the stairs. Kill the ninja
who's prowling about nearby. Outside, in the pool, there's an area about one
block away from the east wall where Lara can get her footing so she can wade
out of the water. If you're having trouble, you can climb up onto the wire cage
and take a running jump there.]
Head back into the small building
with the open roof (northeast area). Drop down through the trap door [or use
the ladder in the east face to climb down] and place the 4 BLACK BEETLES in the
sides of the small pyramid. Collect the ORNATE KEY
inside. [Kill the demigod who attacks
from the doorway to the east.] Exit through the newly opened door. Pick up the GOLDEN SERPENT in the next room and place it in
the receptacle in the SW corner of the room [then get the grenade gun ammo in the NW corner. Use the south
tunnel to get back to the pool, as the way you came in is now blocked by a
raised metal platform.] Back outside, go to the closed door in the north wall
[between the structure with the open roof and the fountain] and use the ORNATE
KEY to open it. Proceed through the open door to the next level.
(NOTE: If you want all the
secrets, you will need to climb back to the upper level [go to the fountain
area to your left to refresh your memory, and refer to the early portion of
this walkthrough for level 8 if you need additional help] and use the rope
again to swing over to the walls lined with obelisks. Enter the crawlspace that
led to level 9 again. When Lara can stand, turn and crawl to the left as a
block lowers and drop down to retrieve SECRET #38.

Level 10: GUARDIAN OF
IMHOTEP
Climb over the barrier. [You'll
immediately be greeted by a harpy to the
east and a skeleton to the west.] Lara
will be facing a deep pit spanned by a bridge. To the east is a closed gate.
Look down into the eastern end of the pit to see a landing guarded by a skeleton. [Kill it from up where you are, then]
make a running jump [straight ahead] down to the landing. Inside, find the
button and push it, causing an earthquake and opening the gate above. Head back
out to the landing.
Save your game here. Standing on
the [far left] edge of the landing and facing west, do a simple jump to land on
the sloping block below. Slide [for just an instant], jump and grab the next
sloping block ahead. Climb up, slide [a little longer this time] and jump to
grab the ladder. Shimmy just right of the ladder’s center [about three-fourths
of the way to the right edge]. Climb up and slide down the other side as far as
you can before falling off, jump and continue to hold the jump key as Lara
lands on the sloping block ahead. Lara will jump to the right and land safely
on a flat block. Climb the ladder back to the top.
The bridge has been destroyed, so
use the monkey bars to swing back to the south side of the pit. [Start near the
keyhole at the closed temple door, not at the edge of the pit.] Go east and
climb into the opening. Pull down the switch inside. A cut scene shows a dark
area at the west end of the pit. Head all the way to the west
side of the room and stand looking down into the pit. Do a simple jump
back and then run (without jumping) off the edge so that Lara lands on top of
the column below. [Turn around, hop back] and grab the north edge of the column
and use the ladder to climb in to the opening below. [Don't go all the way to
the bottom, as there's a fire trap down there. Light a flare so you can see
what to do.]
Head into the room and
immediately turn left (or right) to avoid the spike ball. Pick up the ORNATE KEY from the pedestal [and turn around to
deal with an awakened skeleton. Find a small medpak in the NE
alcove]. Return to the opening where you entered. Angle a running jump to the
slope ahead and to the left. Hold the jump key down until Lara lands safely on
the flat block. Climb the ladder and use the key to open the door in the northern
wall. The doors will shut behind her as Lara enters. The next part of the level
involves finding many switches and solving several puzzles.
Ahead is a wide stairway flanked
on either side by two narrower sets of steps leading to open doorways.
Begin on the right side, heading through the doorway and following the passage
until you see a gray wooden door ahead. Continue left until you encounter a
soldier battling a giant scorpion. [Kill
the scorpion when it starts coming after you, followed by a white-shrouded warrior.] On the way, look at the
pedestal inside the small structure. Beneath the grating, on the right and left
sides are two symbols; pay close attention to these! [Be careful of the deadly
drops on two sides of the mottled walkway, and] make a running jump across the
trench to the NE corner of the room (near the large gray double doors). Find
the switch on the north wall and pull it. Return to the courtyard where you
began.
Now, go through the opening on
the left-hand side. Follow the passage around [making a hairpin turn to the
right] and find the small room with a ladder leaning against the wall (guarded
by a skeleton). In the NW corner, find
the switch and pull it. Exit and head up the stairs to the west. Take note of
the stone pedestal in the next courtyard. [A cut scene shows two soldiers
fighting a giant scorpion. One of the soldiers may or may not make it out
alive, depending on how fast you kill the scorpion, but if he does, and if you
don't shoot at him, he won't attack you.] Go around the corner to the right and
jump over the narrow trench to the north. [Don't fall in, or you die. Shoot the
harpy on the other side.] Turn left and
find the next switch in the dark corner. After pulling the switch, return the
way you came. Return to the gray wooden door [all the way on the other side, up
the east stairs], which is now open.
Entering the room behind the gray
door, you will find [shotgun ammo dead
ahead, and] four alcoves with buttons and symbols. Push the two buttons with
symbols that correspond to the ones under the pedestal outside [the first one
on the left, the second one on the right]. This opens the gate in the south
wall. Inside is an empty pool. To the left is a wall switch. Pull it to open a
door atop the central structure outside [and spook a warrior].
Over the short stairway leading
into the courtyard with the stone pedestal [again, over on the other side up
the west stairs] is a pointed archway. [Take care of the warrior you spooked,
together with another warrior patrolling
the roof above.] Angle a running jump [on the stairway landing on the other
side of the archway, facing east] up to the lowest point on the archway. Now,
standing on the peak of the archway and facing north, do a standing jump and
grab to the wall ahead. [This has to be just right, so be patient and expect to
fail a couple of times.] Pull the switch there to open the door [near the
pedestal] in the SW corner of the courtyard below [and alert a giant flying bug].
Enter the doorway and follow the
stairs to a room with a raised, carpeted platform surrounded by four columns.
[Kill the harpy.] On each column is a symbol and a button. To know which buttons to push,
look at the ceiling in the center of the room. Pushing the correct buttons
opens the gate in the south wall. [First, pick up the uzi ammo
in the middle of the oriental carpet. Then push the buttons in the NE and SW
corners.] Inside, find the switch [turn around and look to the left] and pull
it to open the gate in the east wall. Head outside and up the short stairs to
the door you opened earlier. Inside, pull the black and gold striped block onto
the first scarab tile. [Not the one adjacent to it, although you hear a sound
like something is happening when you stop here. However, the required door
remains closed. Pull the block once more, then use the 45-degree-angle flip
jump trick to get on the other side so you can push the block the rest of the
way.] This opens the door on the east side of this structure.
Use the rooftop outside to make
your way to the east side (mind the green hot tiles). [A couple of simple
running jumps will get you there.] Notice the BLACK BEETLE on the other side of
the lattice -- you will get this much later. Go through the door and notice the
torch on the floor to the left. Leave it for now, but remember its location. To
the right is a sloping block in the corner. Do a back flip onto the slope and
jump to grab the ledge above. Pull up and drop down on the opposite side. Lara
will find herself behind the block she has recently moved. Look carefully on
the north wall here for a switch. Pulling it opens a gray door below.
Now, push the block all the way
forward onto the second scarab tile. This will lower the block obstructing the
walkway above. Return to the south door and [use the sloped block to] jump back
up to the walkway. Pull the switch in the alcove to the south. A door opens
below. It is in the room which was guarded before by the skeleton. Make your
way to this room [down below, directly across from the room with the pedestal]
and through the newly opened door.
Jump the narrow trench [in the
dark area ahead]. Turn and look back down into the trench to see an opening.
This is the way to SECRET #39. [Simply
jump back across the trench, hop back and grab the edge, release and grab the
opening below, and pull up to get a large medpak and some revolver
ammo. Then reverse roll and come out to the edge of the tunnel. Make
a standing jump and grab to the other side of the trench and pull up.] After
getting the secret, head through the open gray door to the north. [Kill the warrior in the distance ahead, and the one just to
your right in the alcove above you. But don't climb up to investigate further;
it's a fire trap. Down a little further, to the left, is an alcove where you
can safely pull up for some grenade gun ammo.
There's another alcove around the corner with a large medpak.] Follow
the path until you reach the NE corner of the room and find a black and gold
striped block. Pull the block away from the wall so Lara can climb into the
alcove and pull the switch there. This opens the door in the NE corner -- mind
the spike trap on your way through.
ROOM WITH TOWER
SURROUNDED BY WATER
(NOTE: Explore the inside of the tower now
[through an underwater entrance on the west side for a small medpak and some grenade gun ammo] for pickups, as this will be blocked later.)
Find the safe tile [between the
two pillars] near the NW corner of the short wall surrounding the tower. From
here, do a running jump to grab the ledge at the corner of the tower. Shimmy
left around the corner to the north side and pull up on the balcony. Pull the
switch there to lower a block above. Next, drop and grab the edge and shimmy
all the way around to the south balcony of the tower. From here do a running jump to grab the ladder opposite and climb up
to the higher level. [Kill the skeleton
waiting for you up there.]
Turn and do a long running jump
and grab to the top of the tower, [kill the prowling skeleton across the way] then another to the landing on the south
side of the room. Find the wall switch and pull it. Next, from the top of the
central tower, turn east. Do a simple jump/grab to the edge of the flaming
tile. Shimmy right [around two corners] until Lara can safely pull up on the
scarab tile. Find the switch in the corner behind the black & gold block
and pull it. Move the block onto the scarab tile. Make your way over the hot
tiles to the north side and push the block onto the scarab tile there. [You can
hop back, grab the edge, and shimmy past the block you just moved.]
Do a long
running jump/grab back to the top of the central tower. [Do
this from the higher pink squares above the flaming tiles between the two
striped blocks.] Do a simple jump/grab to the edge of the flaming tiles to the
west. Shimmy left [around two corners and past the last flaming tile] until
Lara can pull up safely. Move the block onto the scarab tile. [This releases a fire wraith, so beat a hasty retreat back down to
the water and extinguish it.]
Back at the base of the tower, some
blocks have risen in the water, giving access to three of the four buttons on
the side of the tower. Push the three buttons (if you want) and go to the door
in the north wall of this room. Inside are two ramps with spike balls. One way
to safely trigger them: do a standing jump up to the left ramp followed by a
side jump to the right ramp and a side jump back to the left (after the first
spike ball has passed). [An easier way: Take a standing jump over the trench
just beyond the entrance, with fire traps at the bottom, to the inside part of
either spike ball ramp to trigger the spike ball. Quickly shimmy toward the
central safe square as the spike ball rolls by. Pull up, back flip, and do the
same thing to trigger the spike ball on the other side.] In the room at the
top, pull the two wall switches [both on the north wall in the end alcoves]
found on either side of the pool (note the button above the pool).
The door in the west wall of the
tower room has opened, revealing a scarab tile inside. Head back out to the
room before the tower room [in the south wall. Be sure to use one of the side
ramps going down, as the central path will lead you to fire pits. Or, if you wish, you can use the overhead
monkey bars.] As you make your way through the center of this [tower] room,
look for the tall raised block with a switch above it. A flaming tile obstructs
the path to the top of the block. Continue around to the south end of the room
where you encounter a giant scorpion.
Head west and find the wall switch, which extinguishes the flaming tile.
Go back and pull the switch over
the raised block near the center of the room. This raises another block in the
spike trap between this room and the tower room. Lara can now move the last
black & gold block into the tower room and onto the scarab tile inside the
open door in the west wall. This raises a block in the water on the south side
of the tower, allowing Lara to push the final button there, which will give
access to the button over the pool in the room above. [Remember the two ramps
and the spike balls? Locate the opening to this room in the north wall.]
When Lara pushes the button over
the pool, a cut scene shows golden water pouring into the dry pool back toward
the beginning of the level. Make your way back to that room now [by exiting
through the the room south of the tower room and
leaving that second room via the SW opening - hop over the trench outside,
swing around to your right past the column, turn left at the narrow opening in
front of the grate, turn left again, then right and down the stairs, across the
courtyard and up the stairs on the other side, turn right and through the open
door, down the stairs and right into the room with the pool]. (NOTE: The door
in the east wall of the tower room will be opened later from the other side).
SOLUTION TO
WATER/FIRE PUZZLE
Above the pedestal outside the
room with the pool [see directions below], which is now filled with golden
water, there are four blue bars. This is the clue that Lara must pour 4 liters
of water here. Fill the water skin with four liters of water from the golden
pool nearby. [Fill the large skin. Combine it with the small skin, putting 3
liters in the small skin and leaving 2 liters in the large skin. Empty the
small skin, then combine the large skin with the small
skin, putting 2 liters in the small skin and emptying the large skin. Fill the
large skin and combine it with the small skin to have 3 liters in the small
skin and 4 liters in the large skin.] The pedestal is located inside the small
central structure you visited earlier.
Exit the pool room and the dark room beyond it, go up the stairs to the
left, turn right and dogleg to the right, and turn left into the central
structure. Pour the 4 liters into the
pedestal outside (stand directly in front of the pedestal and select the water
skin in inventory and use it). When Lara steps back, a cut scene shows one
torch has ignited by the closed door in the first courtyard outside.
Before going on, go around to the
back side of this small structure surrounding the pedestal. Look up at the wall
to the west. You will note that the flame, which has burned there until now, is
extinguished. Climb onto the slanted roof of the small structure and do a back
flip and roll to land on the wall above. Follow the short path to its end and
do a jump on to the sloping roof to the right. At the top is SECRET #40 [with a small
medpak and some grenade gun ammo].
Now you will need your torch, so
go retrieve it from wherever it is. [Have Lara face to the north, then jump
back and slide down to the floor. Turn left and run up and then down the
stairs. Turn left into the stairwell and follow the stairs around until you
reach the room with the oriental rug. Continue forward
through the open door, and take a couple of running jumps to get around to the
east side of the structure. Make a hairpin turn to the left, go up the stairs
and turn left inside to pick up your TORCH.]
With torch in hand, make your way back to the room west of the central tower
(where you pushed two of four buttons before)[and with
the oriental rug in the middle]. In the small room off of it [to the south],
the pedestal is now aflame. Use it to light your torch. Exit by following the
long stairway [to the west] down to the other courtyard with a pedestal in its
center. Use the torch to light this pedestal. Watch the cut scene, then go and
claim the HAND OF SIRIUS.
GETTING THE 4 BLACK
BEETLES
Use the HAND OF SIRIUS to open
the other set of double doors [up the east stairs and jumping across a trench,
near where you threw a wall switch much earlier]. Note the receptacle at the
bottom of this room for later. Find the black and gold block on the left-hand
side and push it in to the next room. [Once inside the room, push the first
block back to get it out of the way.] Pull the other block out and move it
aside to reveal a corridor. Follow the corridor [At the first fire pit, jump
straight up and grab the ceiling, then monkey swing across the pit. Shoot the warrior waiting for you at the end of the tunnel,
then take a standing jump and grab over the second fire pit. Pull up and
continue forward.] to a room with a giant scarab
structure floating over a green pool. To either side of the entrance is a high
block with flame blowers. Near the one on the left is a wall switch. Pull it to
raise a block back in the room with the two moveable blocks. Return there
[Navigate the first fire pit you come to the same way you did before. However,
the second one is different. Going back, you need to slide a bit and then jump
and grab the ceiling and monkey swing across.] and
maneuver one of the blocks onto the scarab tile in the alcove. [This requires
pushing the second block back into the tunnel temporarily,
to give you room to push the first one onto the scarab tile.] This extinguishes
the flame blowers atop the two blocks.
From the top of either block, do a long running jump to a flat spot on the scarab
structure. [Don't try an angled jump to reach that spot directly. What you need
to do is jump straight ahead, then swerve in mid-air either to the right or
left, depending on which block you use, to land on a flat spot at the outer
vertex of the greenish design.]
Grasping the
lower edge on the north side of the scarab structure, shimmy right until you
see an opening in the wall behind. [This is tricky, because you lose camera control. Start by taking a
standing jump to the north side and allowing Lara to slide back. Grab the edge
and shimmy around the corner to the north face. Continue to shimmy and count
Lara's arm movements or the accompanying clicks. You'll lose camera control
after the fourth one. Count 15 more, pull up and take
a back flip. You should land squarely on the safe tile.] Do a back flip into
the very left (as you face away) side of the opening -- otherwise Lara will
land on hot tiles. The gate opens as when Lara approaches. Stand to the very
left side of the opening (save your game). Slide down, jump a flame trap and
continue sliding to the bottom. At the very bottom of the slide, jump and veer
left (holding the jump key) so that Lara lands safely on a flat spot.
Turn and do a running jump to the
flat landing at the bottom of the spike ball ramp [in the darkness to the left
of and beyond the dark triangle you see below]. Quickly jump back and grab the
edge while the spike ball rolls by. Push the wall switch down to raise a block
in the opposite corner of the room. [Take a running jump back to the flat spot
you arrived on, then turn to the left and take a standing jump to the alcove in
front of the NW block.] Climb the tall block in the NW corner and do a running
jump to the tall block in the NE corner. From here, make a running jump to the
ladder and climb up to claim your first BLACK BEETLE. Exit through the open gate in the
east wall. [Don't use the ladder. Instead, step back and sidestep left. Angle
to the left and take a standing jump with a grab to land inside the tunnel
below.]
Note the ladder above the water
opening. Take a swim to the upper level, climb out and find the wall switch [in
the NW corner]. After pulling it, swim back down and use the ladder to climb to
a small alcove. Turn and jump to another alcove in the opposite wall. Pull the
switch to open the gate above. Swim back up and exit to the room with the giant
scarab.
Make your way back onto the
scarab structure as before. This time, shimmy all the way around to its west
end until Lara is over a pool of clear water. Drop in and swim through a short
water maze and up to an opening. Climb out and find an opening in the west
wall. [Take a standing jump to the ladder and climb down. Drop down to the floor
and get the flares. Use the sloping
block to do a back flip and grab to the next higher level. Pull up and turn
around. Take a running jump across.] Push the button inside to drop a rope
above the giant scarab. [Turn around and take a running jump back to the other
side. Turn to the left and jump up to grab the ladder. Climb up a few rungs and
back flip into the high open area.] Now use the climbable structures over the
giant scarab to get close to the rope. [From either landing, take a standing
jump and grab the climbable surface. Shimmy to the right all the way around to
the other side. From the bottom rung, take a rolling back flip and grab the
surface behind you. This time shimmy to the left all the way around. Again from
the bottom rung,] do a back flip and roll and grab the rope. Swing over and
grasp the climbable structure on the east wall. Shimmy around the corner to the
right, and back flip [from the bottom rung] onto the small landing.
From the landing, do a running
jump to the opening high on the south wall. Mind the spikes inside. Pull the
wall switch at the end of the short corridor. Do a running
jump back to the small landing on the east wall (hold the action key
while jumping to avoid hitting the large ceiling beam). Make your way over to
the small landing to the north [jump and grab the ladder, shimmy around to the
other side and back flip from the lowest rung] and do a running jump to the
opening in the north wall. [Watch the spikes, as you've got twice as many on
this side to run through.] Claim the second BLACK
BEETLE inside.
The water below the giant scarab
is now safe. [Take a running jump, holding down the action key as before, to
the landing. Then turn right and take a standing jump down to the water. Pull
out on the east side.] Once more, make your way around to the west side of the
scarab and follow the water tunnel to the upper level. Climb around to the east
side of the first climbable structure over the giant scarab. This time, drop
off and into the center of the scarab. Follow the water passage until Lara can
climb out. Find BLACK BEETLE number
three on the column in the center of the room. Pull the wall switch to open the
door and exit back to the beginning of the level. [Go outside this room and
find the south opening to exit the room with the moat around the central
structure. Then navigate the room with many fire traps until you reach the exit
in the SW corner. Go down the stairs and jump over the trench and through the
opening ahead, and you'll find yourself in familiar territory.]
While dousing a fire spirit [alerted while you're still on the
west side] in the small pool of golden water [reached by going up the steps on
the east side and turning right], you will see your next destination through
the grille. The double doors at the beginning of the level are now open again.
Head back through them and [take a blind running] jump down to the landing at
the east end of the deep chasm. Inside and to the left, the way is now open.
Climb the pole to the room above [after getting the shotgun
ammo in the opposite alcove, then shoot the harpy] and find the fourth BLACK BEETLE at its north end. Return to the room
below and exit the way you came in. [When you reach the area of the dark
landing you jumped to from above,] continue straight south into another opening
where Lara can climb back up to the beginning of level 10. If you have 4 BLACK
BEETLES, return now to level 8 [by emerging in the large room, running forward
and turning left when you reach the crawl space].
THE LOST TEMPLE OF SAQQARAH
(revisited)
The pool at the entrance to level
8 is now clear. Jump on in and swim into the opening in the SE corner. Swim
through the short water maze until you [locate a longer tunnel leading west
and] emerge in a large underwater room. Swim left (south) and
open the underwater door. Inside Lara can get some air and kill the croc that follows her. Jump back in the water and
find the underwater switch on the ceiling in the NW corner of this room.
Get some air and swim out into
the large central room. Find the GOLDEN KEY
in the NW corner. Open the door on the west wall and find the underwater switch
on the ceiling in the SW corner. [Lure the croc
into the south anteroom where Lara can kill it.] Finally, open the door on the
north wall of the main room and find the ceiling switch in the NE corner [and a
small medpak
in the NW alcove down below]. Back out in the main room, a door has opened to
reveal a passage (NE corner). Follow it until Lara can climb out. [There's a small medpak on the floor of the main room near
this opening.]
Defeat the demigod that awaits you and take the GOLDEN SERPENT it drops. Use the Golden Key in
the lock on the east wall to open a gate nearby. Climb the pole in the corner
[and back flip] to the room above. [Climb the ladder, pull up and] open the
door and enter a room with three more doors. Open the west door. Slide
[forward] down the ramp and grab the edge of the rust-colored column at the
bottom (don’t let Lara fall into the water). Shimmy around and drop off. Push
the floor lever. Drop into the water [return through the opening to the larger
underwater area and swim across to the opening near the NE corner] and swim
back to the room where you fought the demigod. Climb back up to the room with
three doors.
This time, go through the north
door. Slide down the ramp backward and grasp the edge at the end. Drop and grab
the ledge below and shimmy around the corner where Lara can drop to a flat
spot. Make a running jump to the [sloped surface near the] other side of the
room [and jump back and forth, using the arrow keys, until you reach the other
side] and push the floor lever. A door opens nearby. Jump in the water and swim
again to the room where you encountered the demigod. Use the four BLACK BEETLES
to open the small pyramid. Take the ORNATE HANDLE.
Place the Golden Serpent in its receptacle on the [east] wall to open the
doors. Exit and return to Level 10. [After dropping down into the large
passageway, turn around and run outside. Jump into the water, pull out onto the
platform to the left and make your way to the exit door in the north wall.]

Make your way back to the room
with the receptacle for the PORTAL GUARDIAN.
[Crawl over the barrier and drop down on the other side. Turn to the right and
run to the western end of the causeway. Turn right and run off the edge to the
column below as you did earlier. Angle Lara to the right and locate the long
ladder on the wall ahead. Take a long running jump to the block beneath the
ladder and climb up to the top. Pull up and enter the temple. Go up the right,
or east set of stairs, jump over the trench at the rear of this area and go
through the open double doors. Combine Djoser's
Effigy with the Ornate Handle to get the Portal Guardian.] Place it to open the
gate at the end of the hallway off the south side of this room. When you go
through the gate, you’ll encounter the hammer god
inside. Turn right and find the wall switch in the dark corner. Pulling it
raises a block in the other (NE) corner. Climb this block and stand on the
scarab tile to re-open the doors at the south end of the room. This is on a
timer, so jump down and run quickly to pass the doors.
Inside, climb the ladder opposite
the single wooden door. At the top, go east and climb through the opening. Pull
the wall switch in the next room. Head north, jumping to a platform atop one of
the columns, followed by a running jump/grab to the next platform. Pull the
wall switch in this alcove, opening the single wooden door in the room below.
Step back out on the platform
atop the column. Look directly west to the alcoves on the other side. In the
middle is an invisible platform which can be reached with a running jump. From
there, jump to the alcove on the western side. In the first is a pickup of grenade gun ammo. Jump to the next alcove to the
south and find SECRET #41 [and the CROSSBOW].
To get back
down, [make a running] jump next to the leg of the Pharaoh statue below. Lara will have to climb once again to the scarab tile in the NE corner.
Run back through the open door by the Pharaoh statue and exit by the open door
inside.
