Temple of Apis

Inside Temple of Apis (Level 1)
The level begins with a lovely
flyby of a sparkling night sky outside the Lost Temple of Apis, in which Lara
is now trapped. Ascend the staircase, arm weapons and turn left. The camera
angle changes showing the large stone doors opening but nevertheless, shoot
the 2 scorpions that emerge. Secret #1: Turn around and head to the south/west corner of
the room. Drop into the hole in the floor, (never mind about the torch,
doesn't seem to serve a purpose) and head down the corridor into Secret #1.
Climb out, arm weapons and shoot the 3 scorpions. Follow the path
north and shoot the 3 wild jackals roaming rather defenselessly in the valley ahead.
Follow the right fork in the path and pickup the Crossbow while admiring the stunning
constellation "Pantera" perhaps? (in any case, a very nice touch).
Return south to the underground corridor, back to the Main Hall. Head through the stone doors and
run through the corridor. Part of the way through, listen for howling dogs
and turn around. Shoot the 4 wild jackals
following, then turn around and continue down the corridor. Pull the chain on
the left once, raising a block near the rope across the chasm. Climb the
block and take a running jump and grab to the rope. Swing to the other side
and enter the room ahead. Reach into each of the three holes in the wall,
beginning with the one on the right, then the left, leaving the one straight
ahead (east) for last. Immediately reverse roll, exit the room and take a
running jump and grab the rope to avoid the swarm of
beetles that fell from the ceiling. Swing to the other side, backflip
to the block and take out the 3 wild jackals.
Enter the newly opened door on the left. Slide down the slope, arm weapons
and shoot the 2 scorpions. Take a standing
jump and grab the pole and slide down. Open the red doors, head through the
corridor into the next area and watch the cutscene showing a correlation
between the ceiling and the spiked floor. Climb the block ahead (north),
reach into the hole and pickup the small medipack
inside. Turn left and approach the spiked floor. From the middle tile, walk a
straight path to about the middle to the two columns. Turn right and walk to
the column. Angle to face the slope (see screenshot), take a running jump to the farthest point and slide to land on a
safe tile (see screenshot). Turn left, head to the other side and watch a cutscene of the
spiked tiles deactivating. Return to the skeleton and pickup the Uzis left behind by the poor soul who didn't follow
the clues. Continue through the corridor and approach the pedestal on the left.
From the left side, pickup the Carouche Piece 1
and immediately jump back to avoid the blades on the pedestal. Turn right and
drop into the hole in the floor, returning to a previous corridor. Head
south, enter the newly opened door on the right (north wall) and the next
level loads. Gardens of Apis (Level 2)
Follow the corridor around into an
atrium with two lion heads. Enter the alcove on the left and climb the ladder
to the upper level. Take a running jump and grab the first rope. Swing, jump
and grab the second rope. Secret #2: Angle to face south and swing to land on the ledge.
Look for the semi-transparent greenery on the wall and climb the block into
Secret #2. Follow the path down a ways and climb a small slope on the left.
Pickup the Uzi ammo and return to the path. Turn left towards the bright
greenery and crawl into the dark, well concealed crawlspace. Pickup the 2 Crossbow ammo and exit.
Wade through the water to the other side and watch a cutscene of the area
ahead. Shoot the 5 jackals and approach the skeleton. Pickup the lasersight, flares and small medipack. Turn around, exit the area, back to the atrium with the
ropes. From the second rope, swing and
jump to land on the north side of the atrium. Follow the corridor, slide down
the slope and arm weapons. Shoot the 3 jackals
and head to the north/west corner of the room. Pull the floor lever to open a
door in the floor. Head to the south/west corner of the room, drop into the
hole and follow the corridor to the first of two circular blades. There are
several ways to traverse these blades but this method I found the most
predictable. Walk as close as possible to the blades without losing life (see
screenshot), When the blades are open, reverse roll to land on the other side
without any loss of life (see screenshot). Repeat for the second set of blades and enter the next room. Arm
weapons and shoot the 2 jackals. Climb the
slope and take a running jump to the north ledge. Jump up and grab the jump
switch on the wall which raises a cage on the opposite side of the room. Take
a running jump and grab to the opposite ledge, jump up and grab the beige
monkey swing on the left and swing to the other side of the room. Let go and
quickly grab the edge of the cage and pull up. Climb the block into a room
with fire holes and puzzle pieces. Start with the north wall, face the
rightmost tile, wait for the flame to subside and reach into the hole to turn
off the flame in the middle tile. From the middle tile, pull the red puzzle
piece back one tile. From the leftmost tile, wait for the flame to subside
and reach in to pickup the Crossbow ammo.
From the middle tile, push the red puzzle piece forward one space. Wait for
the flame, then push the red puzzle piece forward into place. Return to the
middle tile, wait for the flame, then reach in (this turns off a flame on the
opposite wall). Face the south wall and head to the leftmost tile. Pull the
blue puzzle piece one space back. Head to the other side and push the piece
into place. Pickup the Crossbow ammo and torch
from the two pedestals and exit the room via the hole in the floor. Drop to
the ledge, then to the ground and climb the slope. Light the torch with the
flame on the pedestal and return to the ground level. Head to the south part
of the room, turn around and light the 2 unlit torches on the inner wall.
Return to the corridor with the two circular blades, pass through and back to
the previous room. Jump up and grab the ledge ahead and pull up to where the
puzzle piece is. Push the piece to where the two hammers are poised and jump
back. Pickup the Ra Cartouche and return to
the corridor with the circular blades. Make your way through the two blades
and climb the ladder in the north/east corner of the room. Head through the
corridor and pickup the Cartouche Piece 2 on
the pedestal. Open the red doors on the right, head through the corridor and
climb the pole. Backflip to the ledge behind, head down the corridor and down
the ladder. Follow the corridor back to the atrium with the two lion heads. Secret #3: You need the Revolver to get this secret but I did
not find one and resorted to DOZY to obtain it. Combine the revolver and the
lasersight and shoot the gems in the lion's mouths. Enter the doors, around
the corridor into Secret #3. Pickup the Crossbow ammo in the north/west
corner. Head to the south/west corner and pull the jump switch to the right
of the door. Shoot the 2 jackals and that's about it. Exit through the corridor in
the north/west corner, back to the atrium. Combine the two Cartouche Pieces
and use the Ba Cartouche in the wall receptacle. Arm weapons and shoot the 2 jackals. Continue through, watch a cutscene and
place the Ra Cartouche in the wall receptacle to the right of the doors
ahead. Head through the doors, down the corridor and swim through the pool.
Head up the stairs and climb down the pole. Head through the corridor past
the statues, through the door into the next area. Head to the south/east corner of
the room, reach into the hole in the wall and the fire on the pedestal shuts
off. Pickup the Hand of Sirius and
immediately jump back to avoid the blades from the pedestal. Enter the door
now opened in the east wall. Watch a cutscene of the crocodile infested
waters below and take a running jump and grab the rope. Swing, jump and grab
the second rope. Swing, jump and grab the third rope. Swing and jump to land
on the ledge ahead. Slide down the slope and the level ends. The End. |
