The Underworld - Counting Souls

When the level starts, immediately jump back to avoid falling rocks. Go east and pick up the Amulet of Horus in a tunnel and see Von Croy. Run towards him and get a cut scene of the outside area and then you slide down a slope as the floor gives away.  Just slide down to the bottom and watch out for the fires at the bottom. Carefully get the shotgun and the flares in the corner. Look south for a crawl space behind a fire for later. Carefully climb a block in the north-east corner and jump south to grab a climbable wall. Notice a closed gate to the side. Climb and shimmy left into a tunnel with a swinging chain. Use the binoculars and look north at the wall to see a jump switch. It is more a matter of luck than timing, but when the fire starts, count four swings of the chain, and then start the run and jump for the switch. Pull the switch, fall and side jump before the fire starts up. You hear a trap door drop somewhere. Get back to the tunnel with the swinging chain. Turn around and drop and look for a jump switch. Again this has to be timed to avoid a fire on the floor. When pulled, you hear a gate opening. Pick up shotgun shells and use the west wall to climb back up to the chain. [Warning] If you jump down to the now open gate and follow the tunnel, the gate closes. At the end you hear the secret sound. When you climb the wall, a new level tries to load but the games crashes to the desktop. [End warning] So instead, drop back to the ground floor with the fires but now all the fires are out. Go to the south side and get into the triangular crawl space on the floor. Inside, climb the wall on the east and pull up into a tunnel. Go up the ramp and pull up to the south and pick up a small medipack. You get a flyby and hear an earthquake.

Save the game and you now need to run and follow the tunnel. At the end run towards a tunnel ahead of you. Try using sprint in a zigzag motion around the blocks. If you are too slow a block falls and blocks the way. At the tunnel entrance turn around and pull a jump switch. This switch stops the block from dropping and enables you to exit later. Go inside the tunnel and hear a secret sound for secret #1. Enter and push a block out of the way. Pull the other two blocks out of the way as well. Behind each block is a pull chain. Go to the south-west and pull the chain a few times. Then go to the north-west and pull the chain a few times. This raises a cage over the flame in the east. If you put a block in front of the exit, move it now for a quick escape later. Hop up on the cage and pull up before you get cooked. Jump to a corner and pull up to the next level. Go to the east corridor and pull back the movable block so you can get behind them. Then pull it back so they are in line with the floor grate. By magic a large medipack appears behind you. Push the block out of the way. Do the same in the west corridor for another large medipack. Go to the south-west corner where the block was and jump up to grab a climbable wall. At the top, pull up and go north to use a floor lever. You get a cut scene of a cage dropping and revealing a block. When you go back, look to the east for a cage on the floor. Get down and go to the north-east corner and climb. At the top, pull up and go south to use a floor lever. You get a cut scene of a cage dropping revealing a switch. On the way back look west for the first dropped cage. Go west into the hole and use the switch. Exit and go back to the south-west and climb up. Go east into the hole and use the floor lever. Get down and see that a cage has risen in the middle of the floor grate. Climb on it and grab a climbable wall. Climb on the west side and pull up to a pedestal. Pick up the Cartouche Piece 2 and turn around and shoot the vase on the floor to turn off the flame on the bottom cage. Now get down as beetles annoy you.  When you exit the area go to the south-west and see a tunnel to the south. Get into  the tunnel and a door closes behind you. Follow the tunnel to the top and get a flyby of an area overlooking a water basin.

You can shoot the skeleton off the ledge in front of you. Turn around and pick up flares that appeared by magic. Also a door has closed locking you inside. Go forward to a floor grate and go west towards the skeleton. Look under the pillar crevice for some bones. Stand at the corner, squat and use the pistols to shoot the bones. You may have to go up and down a lot but eventually they break. The skeleton beside the pillar wakes up so shoot him off the ledge. Get into the water and swim west. At a closed gate, dive and swim through an underwater crevice. Inside the underwater room, swim south. Get out the water and go up a ramp to another room. South over the grate, there is a trap door for later. Go to the south-east and crawl under a rock and into a trap door. Go to the south-east corner by the gate. Get secret #2 by picking up the crossbow off the block in the corner. Pick up the laser sight from the floor. Look south and combine the crossbow and laser sight and use it to shoot a vase behind the window that you see through the slot. I do not know what it was for. Go west down a corridor and pull out a movable block. Go west and find a crawl space. Pick up crossbow normal ammo, crossbow poison ammo and crossbow explosive ammo. Drop back into the water at the end of the crawl space. Get out of the water and go back up the ramp. Go to the south east where the trap door is, but this time get into the tunnel going east. At the end, you overlook the water room. Jump up and grab and monkey swing back to the starting platform.

From there go over the broken ledges to a pillar in the south-east. From there you can jump to a south ledge and shimmy left around a bump to a flat area. Look east to a flat area on the wall to the right of a large picture. You have to make a hard jump from a triangular ledge and be careful of bumping your head. When you make it, turn around and side jump to the right. Start to slide and jump up to grab a high ledge to the west. Pull up into the space and go forward and to the right. You can see a bat hanging in mid-air that then rises to the ceiling. The cave splits into two branches. The left branch has a death pit so take the right branch. Find some flares and continue north until you see a floor lever to the west. Use the floor lever and get a cut scene of a gate opening. Go east and monkey swing over to that open gate. At the end of the monkey swing, release and grab the crawl space and get into it. Crawl and at the end drop into a room with a statue. Go down to the room floor and go around the sides to shoot six vases. This opens the large gate at the back of the room. Blow up the two skeletons that you have attracted.  Pull up to the back area and pull out the statue from the alcove. The fire will go out behind you. Jump down to pick up an Eye Piece and get a cut scene of a trap door dropping. Get back to the statue platform and monkey swing back to the opening because the floor is now on fire.

Kill the mummy if you think it will hinder you. Sprint down the passage to the end as a crushing pillar falls and beetles start to nibble you. Back into the crawl space and at the end shimmy to the right before you drop into the water. There should be a small medipack on the floor in that area. Swim west into the hole under the gate. Go south, exit the water and go up the ramp. Go south over a floor grid to the open trap door and pull up to the east into a tunnel. Follow and pick up some flares. At the end of the tunnel you get a cut scene of the room with the big scorpion statue. Enter and the door closes. Go left down the stairs. Be sure to step on the last step. Jump to the north opening and do a series of jumps, slides and pull ups in the corridor to pull up before a timed door that is closed. It seems that it only works if you go west over the six pieces of the three scorpion legs on that side and then go back to the last step. I guess that is the procedure because the first time the door did not raise but when I went over the legs and then to the last step, the door did raise. But if you go back over the legs to get to the door, the door closes. This "reset before set" seems a real poor way of doing things or maybe I just got it wrong. The start tile for the timer does not seem to be marked either. I just looked around a lot after I heard the door. Try to do the jumps in the corridor so that you just have to pull up. If Lara goes into her climbing position, you have already lost.

Assume that you are in after many tries, go north to drop into a room. Use the floor lever and hear a flushing sound. Get back up and go south to enter an open door. The door closes behind you and you can see a scorpion under the grate. Get into the next room and that door closes. Go south to drop into another room with a floor lever. Use the floor lever and hear something open. Climb back out and look up to see some thin ledges. Climb up and follow the ledges north. Kill a big scorpion and go left to fall onto the grate. Go east and fall into an open trap door. Kill a big scorpion and pick up the Ba Cartouche from a pedestal. You also hear a gate opening. Get back to the ledges and jump into an open door to the west. Go to the south-west to get back into the scorpion statue room. Drop onto a grate, turn, pull up and slide and grab over some spikes. At the end you find a receptacle. Use the Ba Cartouche and hear a gate opening. Go north and enter an opening under the stairs for a large medipack. Face east and climb the inside of the cage up to a crawl space. Drop at the end to pick up the Timeless Sands and hear a trap door drop. Get down to the floor and jump into the opening in the gray middle structure. Kill the big scorpion and slide down into the hole. At the end watch out for the flames.

Notice a crawl space under the north floor. If you go south there is a dead end and a rock. Go north down the stairs and fall into a hole. Look west for a floor level crawl space. On the other side stand up and jump to pull a jump switch. The cage below you drops and you hear a rock rolling down. I went to the south-west corner and just jump up and down and the rock missed me. When it stopped, I side jump a bit and then crawled under the rock to get back into the corridor.  Go back up the stairs and the fire in the pit is out. Face north, drop, and release to grab a crawl space. Pull up and pick up a large medipack. Continue and a rock drops out in front of you into the now dryer water basin. Safety drop to the floor. The beetles that were there before are still there. Go push the statue in the middle of the room to the other end of the trench and you hear a door open. Go back to the doors beside the statue and enter the open east door. It slams shut behind you. Dive down and swim north to enter an underwater cave. Keep swimming north and enter an underwater tunnel. At the end pull up into a room. Go south and pick up an Eye Piece off a pedestal. Go to the gate and it opens for you. Use the floor lever to remove the water from the cave. Go back to the hole. Use the Timeless Sands on the statue in the north alcove and get a cut scene of the gate opening in the water basin.

Climb down into the dry cave. Go south and into a passage way to the right of the entrance door. There are two pull chains there. Pull the west chain once. Them pull the east chain and the south gate should open. Go in and you hear the sound for secret #3. Pick up Cartouche Piece 1 from the pedestal and exit. Go to the north-west corner and enter the open door. Go to the back and climb the wall. At the top the door opens and you are back in the water basin. Go south towards the open gate. An earthquake occurs and deadly rocks fall from the roof. Go inside the room and the gate closes. Combine the two Eye Pieces and use it to open the circular door. Go inside and listen to a speech. Slide down an incline and in front of the blue circle you see and hear a loud explosion. Jump into the blue circle and the level ends by crashing to the desktop. The level was very dark in places. It was painful to play as I used all my flares rather quickly. I never found a place for the Cartouche Pieces either.
