The Golden Myth

Note from Moderator: This older level can be downloaded, per the builder's wishes, only from Lara's Levelbase (Level #1274). The level at present has an 8.4 rating there, so it's definitely worth playing. Perhaps the builder can be persuaded to allow his level also to be hosted at trle.net.

 

 

You start the game with an introductory flyby. Then the main level loads.

 

The level starts with a flyby of a courtyard and ends at a wall. You start in an alcove behind the wall of the flyby. If you go south, a door closes in the tunnel. Pull up into the wall and drop on the other side. At the south wall are two large closed gates. Go west and down the steps at the west wall. Near the bottom, enter a partially hidden tunnel in the east wall. Follow the tunnel to a dark room. Go to the north-west corner for a small medipack. Notice a room with fires in the floor in the west wall doorway. There is nothing to do here, so exit the room. Follow the steps back up to the courtyard.

 

Go north and notice where the west wall changes texture. Stand jump to grab an invisible crevice on right side texture. Shimmy to the right and pull up into a crawl space. Drop on the other side and a bull attacks you. Run to the east ledge to get out of his way. Notice a closed door in the west wall between the two targets.  The right target has already been broken. Lure the bull to break the left target. A door opens in the north-east corner. Although the door also opens if you just go towards it. Go there and enter the room to shoot a ninja. Use the floor lever and return to the first room. There is a large hole in the floor. The bull will drop into the hole into the room below. Just wait for it to happen. If you fall into the hole, run south to exit back to the courtyard and return by the crawl space again. Then use the floor lever again to close the hole in the floor

 

Go to the north-west corner and pick up red shotgun shells. Carefully use all four reach-in switches with the fire emitters on the north wall. One method is to crouch under the fire emitter. When it stops, stand up, use the reach-in switch, and crouch again. Then crawl to the next reach-in switch. Another method is to run to the reach-in switch, use the reach-in switch and back flip out of the way for each reach-in switch. After you use all four switches, the door opens in the west wall.

 

Go to the open door and see the room below with the fire on the floor. Run and jump to grab the ledge to the west. Pull up and turn around and you can see the bull in the room to the east. Pull up into the crawl space in the west wall. Go west and see a hole in the floor. It is not a hole and you can crawl over the transparent floor. Notice a bridge below with a pedestal on it. Continue crawling and the camera view will change. Go to the end and safety drop on the south onto the top of a large ring structure. You get a flyby of the large room.

 

Go north and slide down the side of the ring. Jump and grab the north ledge. Pull up and enter the opening. Grab the crevice in the north wall and shimmy to the right. Pull up into a tunnel. Go left and pick up flares. Ignore the steps for now. They lead to a room where you need a key that you do not have. Exit and safety drop to the ledge below the tunnel opening. Stand jump down to a lower east ledge. Ignore the wall ladders for now also. Safety drop to the south and onto a ledge. Jump north-west to a ledge. Run and jump to the next three ledges to the west. Turn and climb the north wall. At the top, shimmy to the left and drop onto a ledge. Go west and get a cut scene of circular slicers. Go south and run and jump to a south ledge with a closed gate.

 

Stand jump with grab to glide into the north-west tunnel. Follow the tunnel through the two circular slicers. At the end of the tunnel, grab the ladder on the north wall. Climb down until Lara's feet are at the bottom of the ladder texture. Back flip, roll, and grab a south ledge. Follow a corridor to the east. Look out the openings in the left wall. On the last opening you should see a red-lit ledge to the north-east. Go out the opening and run and jump to the right side of that ledge next to a wall. That area is safe. The left part of the ledge is a fire trap. Go right into the corner for secret #1 and pick up a small medipack. Jump back to the opening and continue east down the corridor. Just follow the corridor to the north and enter an alcove. Pull down the jump switch on the south wall. You hear a door open and get a cut scene of an open door somewhere.

 

Return west back through the corridor and jump to grab the ladder again. Climb up and shimmy left into the tunnel. Follow the tunnel north through the two circular slicers. Get onto the ledge with the gate. Run and jump to land on the north ledge. Go back to the ladder and climb down to the ledge. Follow the ledges to the east. On the last ledge, pull up onto the higher north ledge. Run and jump east to grab the ladder and climb down to the floor. Go straight to the south wall and see the open door above you. Climb the south wall and pull up into the tunnel. Go west and dive into a water hole and swim. The camera view shows you swimming in a channel. Swim to the end and pull up on the west ledge.  Drop into a tunnel and go north. Enter a small room and use the floor lever. Return to the water and swim back to pull up onto the east ledge. Follow the tunnel again and climb down to the floor.

 

Go west to the only white column on that side of the room. Pull down the jump switch on the west side of the column. Look to the north-east and see a rope that has been dropped. Go to the north-east and climb the wall ladder. Shimmy to the right and drop onto a ledge. Face west and run and jump to grab the rope. Swing to the north and drop onto the bridge. Go west and pick up the Guardian Key from the pedestal. The door in the west wall opens. Go west and run and jump to grab the ledge. Pull up and enter the open door.

 

Go west and see a receptacle for an item that you do not have yet. Continue up the steps to the top. Pull up onto a red ladder on the south side. Climb up the ladder and back flip into a tunnel. To the left are a fire trap and a closed door. The tunnel you are in leads to that door. Follow that tunnel to the depression in the floor in front of the closed door. Look west and you can see a timed door open in the west corridor. Sprint north, around the corner and sprint south to the ladder. Jump into the west tunnel and sprint through he open timed door. The timed run is not very tight.

 

The door closes behind you. Go north to a closed door and pick up revolver ammo. Return south and turn to the east and enter a small room. Shoot a ninja and pick up a large medipack from the floor. Go to the north-east corner and use the floor lever. Go south and climb the wall with the vines. Pull up into an opening. Drop on the other side back to the tunnel outside the timed closed door. Go east and enter the open door at the depression. Jump to grab the ceiling and monkey swing south over the deadly floor. At the end, release and grab the wall. Shimmy around to the right and drop into a tunnel. You can go south and see a closed gate if you want. Stay near where you dropped and climb the west wall and pull up into a tunnel. Go west and drop into a water hole.

 

Swim into the crawl space in the south wall. Follow the underwater tunnel and turn right and then left into a branch tunnel. The straight ahead branch tunnel is a dead-end. Follow the underwater tunnel to emerge in a pool in a large outdoor area. Do not pull up out of the water. Most ledges are deadly fire traps. To the south is a mirror image of the area. Swim to the middle of the pool. Look to the west and see an item in the alcove in the mirror. Swim west into the left alcove and pick up the Golden Vraeus. Now swim into the right alcove and swim back through the underwater tunnel. Safety drop into the tunnel and go north to the pit.  Run and jump to the north-east to grab the ceiling again. Monkey swing back north and drop back into the tunnel.

 

Run north around the loop again and climb down the ladder. Ignore the timed door this trip. Go down the steps and place the Golden Vraeus in the receptacle. The door opens beside you. Enter the door and go up the steps. At the top, jump up to the east to grab a ladder. Climb to the top and shimmy to the left to drop into a tunnel. Go west and the tunnel branches. Follow the south tunnel to a small room. Go around the wall and into the north-east corner. Climb the east wall and back flip into a tunnel. Go west and the camera view changes. You are in an arena with some tunnels under a glass floor.

 

Go to the south-east corner and walk through the wall with the letter H on it. Use the floor lever and spikes pop up behind you. Sprint back through the spikes back to the arena. There are now red tiles with arrows on the glass floor. Go to the west wall and drop into the hole to enter the tunnels. Turn to the south and see the first arrow. Follow the arrows and be careful of the depressions in the tunnel floor. Some depressions are deadly blade and fire traps. If you follow the arrows, the depressions are safe. When the tunnel splits and you see two arrows, go south and pick up a small medipack. Go back and take the east tunnel. Go to the end and place the Guardian Key in the receptacle. You get a cut scene of a door opening. Turn around and quickly run back to the entrance hole, as beetles follow on your heels. Pull up and run east back to the ladder. Climb back down to the room and follow the tunnel back to where you entered the tunnel.

 

This time go north and follow the tunnel to the end. When you see two black floor tiles, run and jump over the trap doors to grab the east ledge. Pull up and pick up a small medipack. Jump to the west and slide down the slope backwards. Grab the edge, pull up, and back flip onto a column of steps. Run up the steps to the top and climb the south ladder above your head. Back flip into a tunnel. Follow the tunnel around to repeat the timed run to the door in the west tunnel. When you make it through the timed door, go north to find the open door from the cut scene.

 

Enter the open door and run up another long column of steps. At the top, climb the south wall ladder above your head. Pull up into a room. Go to the north-east corner and use the reach-in switch. The door opens in the west wall. Exit the door and shoot a ninja who drops Uzi ammo. Pull up onto the building you exited. Go to the east wall and pick up the Uzi's. Get down and go north. The door to the building closes behind you.

 

Go to the north-west corner where you see some dark leaves. Climb down the ladder on the east wall and into the room below. Go north and crouch to crawl under the waterfall. If Lara does not want to crouch, jump up and drop back into the water and then crouch. Drop into a hole in the north-west corner. Go north and then west to pick up a Temple Key from a ledge.  Return to pull up under the waterfall. Go to the south-east corner and climb out of the hole.

 

Turn to the east and continue to a water stream and see some doors. If you fall into the water, you are carried over the waterfall to the north. Run and jump to the south-east ledge on the other side of the water. Run and jump to the north-east ledge. Run into the east wall opening and shoot the ninja before he pushes into the water.

 

Enter the east alcove and jump up to grab the west wall above your head. Climb through the green ceiling and pull up onto a ledge overlooking the river. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing west to loop around to the left and into an alcove. Release and grab the edge and pull up into the alcove. You get secret #2 and a large medipack. Stand jump to grab the monkey swing and go back to see a closed door. Climb down the wall again and follow the north tunnel. Jump over the river and get a flyby of the area and a ninja. Face north and see an opening in the north wall. The ninja is in the area above that opening. Run and jump to the north-east ledge and pick up red shotgun shells. The opening in the south wall is a way back to the ledge for the secret.

 

Dive into the water below you. Swim to the north-east and find a place to pull up onto the east shore. To the north are closed doors. Walk east towards a swamp. Most places in the swamp are deadly. First run and jump to the north-east and land in the safe water. Pull up into an alcove and pick up the laser sight. Run and jump back to the shore. Run and jump to the grab the block in the middle of the swamp. Pull up and watch out for wall darts. There is a closed door to the east. Run and jump to the tunnel in the south-west corner. Go to the end and climb a ladder. Go north and the camera view changes to be annoying.

 

Look to the south and see a closed door. Go north and east over the red bridge. Turn to your left and stand at the south side of the wheel. Pull the wheel about eight times. Hop back once, side jump to the left twice, roll, and run south. Jump over the hole with grab and you should glide under the closing door. Be careful of the open trap door in the floor. The closed doors to the east need two items that you do not have. Now drop into the open trap door and slide into the room at the bottom. Go to the pedestal and pick up the revolver. Immediately hop back to avoid the floor blades. Go to the north-west corner and dive into the water hole. You are under the waterfall. Swim to the north-east again and pull up onto the shore.

 

Go back to the block in the swamp and jump again to the south-west tunnel. Climb the ladder again and this time continue north over the bridge. Go up a ramp and shoot a ninja. Continue to the top and go west. Pick up red shotgun shells near the west wall and the shotgun in the north-west corner. Notice a grate in the middle of the floor.

 

[Note] The serious bug occurs here. [End note] Save the game for a strange bug. Use the revolver and laser sight to shoot the grate and the grate breaks. You should drop into the hole where the grate was located. If Lara walks on the hole and does not fall through, exit the game completely and terminate it. Restart the game again and reload the level at the hole. Shoot the grate and this time Lara should fall into the hole and into the room below.

 

Pick up the large medipack. Go to the south-east corner and pick up a Guardian Key. Pull up through the hole and go north-east to use the reach-in switch. Go south to drop into the water. Pull up to the east shore again and go through the opens doors in the north wall. Dive into the water and follow the underwater tunnel. Swim through a circular slicer and just follow the tunnel through an open door and into a flooded room.

 

Swim to the east and pull up into the middle window alcove. Grab the ceiling and monkey swing to the west wall. Release and grab the wall. Shimmy to the right and pull up into an opening. Enter the room and go into the north tunnel to use the floor lever. Return to the flooded room and the water has gone. Safety drop onto the room. Go to the north-east corner and use the floor lever. Go south and enter the tunnel. At the end, climb up the ladder on the east wall. Pull up into a small room. Go east towards the water but do not dive into the water stream. Pull up onto the ledge behind you. Go to the west wall and pull down the jump switch. You get a cut scene of the door opening near the swamp.

 

Go out the west window and safety drop to the ground. Go east back to the water stream. Just dive into the water and the current carries you over the waterfall. Swim north-east again and pull up onto the east shore. Go east to get onto the block in the swamp. Run and jump to grab the open east doorway. Pull up and go north to the end and pick up a Guardian Key. Go back to the block in the swamp. Run and jump to the south-west tunnel again. Climb the ladder to the bridge again. Go over the red bridge and use the wheel as before to get through the timed gate.

 

Enter the room and be careful of the open trap door. Go to the east wall and place the two Guardian Keys to open the doors. Enter the room and pick up a torch near the middle of the south wall. Take the torch outside the room and light it on any wall torch. Return to the room and light the wall torches in the north-west and south-west corners. You hear rocks rolling. Run to the middle of the east wall as the floor breaks under you. You should drop onto a safe platform surrounded by a deadly floor. Drop the torch if you still have it. Go east and dive into the water. Swim down, forward, and up again to pull up into a small room.

 

There is a closed door to the left and a ramp to the right. Go up the ramp and turn around to pull up onto a higher north ledge. The spike ball is harmless. Use the floor lever and the spike ball drops. It rolls down the ramp and breaks the door. Go down the ramp and enter the new room. Use the floor lever to open the doors in the east wall. The pedestal in the room is moveable. Push the pedestal to the north-east corner of the room under the tunnel. Pull up onto the top of the pedestal and jump into the east tunnel. Slide down the slope into a room with closed doors.

 

Go south into a room and walk through the wall with the letter H on it. Use the floor lever and sprint back through the spikes. You get a flyby back to where you have been earlier. There are red tiles with arrows on it pointing to a hole in the ground. You have been there earlier to get the Temple Key so ignore the hint. Ignore the north wall tunnel also. That leads back to the swamp so that you can go back for the Temple Key. Hop onto the west ledge and use the Temple Key. You hear a door open. The closed door to the left leads back to the room with the large ring.  The open door is behind you in the east wall. Go east and through the door. Follow the corridor to a room with a Lara statue. Go towards the statue and you get a flyby showing you that this is the end of the level.
