Valeria Messalina's Lair

Story

While Lara was visiting Italy, she walked on unstable ground and discovered
Valeria Messalina's Lair.
Her imprudence nearly cost her life, but the underwater area broke her fall.
During her journey, she will encounter a few surprises in this lair.

A few comments about this level

My main sources of information are "I, Claudius", "Claudius the God" (by
Robert Graves), "The Annals" (by Tacitus), "Satires" (Juvenal) and "The Most
Evil Women in History" by Shelley Klein.

My main goal is to present the different perspectives of Messalina. On one
hand, she is clever and charming, but on the other hand, she is cruel and
manipulative.

In 021.wav, I am presenting Messalina's qualities and mocking Claudius (a
fragment of Graves' "I, Claudius").
In 071.wav, I am denouncing Messalina (via "The Annals" by Tacitus).

Note: The first ode to Valeria is authentic whereas the second one actually
contains harsh criticism towards Messalina.

Valeria's heart is symbolized by a sun that indicates the intensity of her
emotions.

In 020, 043 and 045, I am playing the role of Messalina, who thinks that
Lara is Agrippina the younger because Agrippina outwitted and succeeded
Messalina.
So as Lara progresses, Messalina becomes more and more convinced that Lara
is Agrippina the Younger.

023 is a fragment of "Greenwich" from the "Shakespeare in Love" soundtrack.
054 is a fragment of "Rondes" from the "Elizabeth" soundtrack.

I hope you will enjoy this level (there is one secret).

I would like to thank Leeloo for helping me translate a fragment of "I,
Claudius" and "The Annals" from English to French.

I would also like to thank Thierry Stoorne for helping me work on the
quality of my level.
